ok this phone a brand new, i can receive calls and text but when i dial a number and try to make a call the phone restarts
This is factory unlocked and not rooted
Try flashing a newer radio rom.
I dont want to root it incase i cant get the original rom back.
It is weird as, i have tried with every sim card to make calls and it works but when i put the 3 sim in does plays up
We experienced the same issue on some Turkish networks as well and flashing a newer radio rom fixed the problem. Flashing roms and rooting are totally different. What you need is a newer version of your current baseband ( radio rom ) sbf and official motorola software flasher " RSD Lite 5.3 "
Hope it helps.
Thank you so much for that Semseddin.
My problem solved, i just flashed it using RSD lite 4.9
Thanks everyone
Hi. I've been having the exact same issue. I've got an unlocked AT&T Atrix and I'm trying to use a Three UK sim (I'm in the UK). I'm a bit new to the world of android, can someone post a link to an appropriate Radio Rom?
Thanks for any help!!
OK after a little more web searching I've found a (sort of) solution -
"Here's a quick fix for it thou, (not permanent)....
1. type *#*#4636#*#* on the dialer
2. Chose Phone Information
3. Set preferred network to GSM only
Viola...its fixed
problem with this fix is that you wont be able to use your 3G network but the dialer should be working."
Problem is of course that you can't use your 3G connection. Hope this helps anyone else with the same issue.

Why is it always 3 that cause a problem?
When the Nokia N900 came out, that wouldn't work with 3 initially until a couple of updates later!

May not work for Pay as you go? I didn't think that it had 2G fall back?
I briked my phone recently" after instaling chainfire 3D",i dont know what ROM version i had before that but i used ODIN to recover my phone ussing another version of ROM.I managed to find FROYO 2.2 available(support) for my country( Romania),but i noticed that mobile network is not working anymore(except Wi Fi),
before this mess the 3G ,GPRS or EDGE signal was present and i have the option to turn on or off the mobile connection, but now i cant do that anymore and i dont have 3G signal anymore, and I dont know why because i have the correct settings in APN. In "About phone" / "status" i have the following values:Mobile network type: UMTS or GPRS from time to time, and for Mobile network state is DISSCONECTED or Connecting from time to time. When i long press the end call button the Phone option appears and when i chose Mobile Network option (Connect to internet is OFF) it does nothing....Can anyone help me in this problem ?,some say that there is a secret code for service that test the 3G conecction but i dont belive that......?..For this reason(problem) i installed four different versions of ROM,and my best option is to manage to find a solution for the current ROM that i have)Sorry for my english or for my posible double post...
I found the official stock ROM i had before and fixed the problem with 3G signal,Is very important to use the correct ops file,i used EUROPA_I5508_v1.0.ops(because i'm an idiot) and the one i needed was EUROPA_I5500_v1.0.ops and i think that is one of the reason for the lost of 3G signal.
Hi,
TL;DR version below.
Note: This is just a traceback that may help diagnose the problem.
I "own" an Ace (S5830M, everything from i/C works fine). I was playing around with some custom ROMs and evertything was going pretty fine. I installed Jelly Blast (OTA 3) and flashed back to stock a few times, everything was fine and working. Used the recovery/backup functionality from CWM (5.0) to switch between the mentioned installations and it was all good.
Here start the real problem:
During one of the instalation of the custom ROM i went to Advanced -> Format /system (Because probably I miss read the instructions). After this the phone booted and didn't bootlooped, instead it just showed the initial logo (white letters, phone model. Not Samsung animation). As I noted it was stuck I flashed stock from Odin and got it working back.
Everything is fine, the phone works as intended, exept that it "can't" use the baseband I was using before (850 MHz frequency, 3G). I say "can't" because after n tries I was able to send 1 SMS, and only one. All the others failed. And on really unusual occasions I get signal and the phone tells me the provider (Kolbi/ICE) but after a few seconds it loses the connection/signal.
What I've tried so far:
Go to Settings->Wireless Connections->Movile Networks:
There I tried to choose my carrier, but isn't listed 99% the time. The other two are(Claro/movistar). So I set it to automatic.
Check IMEI:
It is the right one
Try to restore from a previous working state with CWM:
I can't it says that there's a MD5 missmatch. (Can I force it?)
Flash a Modem file that is known to work (With another, same model, phone and carrier)
Same sympthoms: does not work.
Dial *#197328640# and play with the settings:
Here I setted to: Type: DUAL_MODE_UMTS_PREF
Band: AUTO
These are the same settings that the working phone.
Flash the stock carrier-branded firmware.
Without luck so far.
====================================================
TL;DR
I have two phones, same model and same carrier. One does not detect the 850MHz band (3G to GMS) so I get no service 99.99% the time, but I was able to send a single SMS. All this after formating /system via CWM.
I've tried to use the same setup and setting from the working phone without success.
Any help or hint would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, that could fix it. BTW, was there any need to quote the whole OP?
Guys I need urgent help. I have flashed 38p radio on my Atrix and now it is reporting unknown baseband and IMEI. Cell service and data doesn't work anymore. I have tried flashing other radios, and even the old one that was working is not working anymore. I always get an unknown baseband error. Is there any way I can fix this? Everything else works on the phone.

I had similar problem. My phone was unable to find the Baseband and the IMEI no. My network was not displaying though the WiFI was working. I was just rooted and installed CM7 as per their site instruction.
The final verdict to fix the issue was to install the Radio Base Band zip "baseband-N_01.77.37P.zip" and isntall as update zip option from recovery menu. Now every thing is working.
double restart
two important thing:
1. its important to try all Radios and find the best one that fit to your device\carrier.
2. another thing that important is that after flashing a new radio, you need to restart your device, twice.
sometimes one restart is enough, but in other times , if you dont make double restart - its simply not connected.
OK I have X1021 single sim variant.
Bootloader unlocked. TWRP and SU installed. All OK.
Flash CM11 and data didnt work, so flashed SLIM instead. Data still doesnt work.
Restored to factory default and now I have no connection to mobile network at all. Radio is switched off. Cannot search for networks at all.
Currently back running CM11 with Minor pack GAPPS. I really need my phone to work with at least SMS and voice calls. If anyone can help it would be highly appreciated!!!
