[Q] Signed CWM Recovery? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey All, I'v just come to the SGS3 yesterday after having my Note for only a month and previously a SGS2 for 6 months.
Absolutely amazing device, hands down the best there is and I'm glad I moved, although I do miss the screen size of my Note when playing Minecraft PE.
Anyway, the reason I'm here is because I'm wondering if there is any possibility of a signed CWM recovery that can be temp-flashed in order to root. I'm not a big fan of insecure kernels and would prefer if I could use this same method I used on my GS2 and then the Note.
It would be great if this could happen and would make rooting a breeze even without a computer. It also means no triangle, no increased flash count and no insecure kernel.
Enjoy the GS3.

Umm i think this is what your looking for
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238
its chainfires cf root but it keeps your phone as stock as possible and gives root and cwm recovery and no custom kernel

Thanks but it is my understanding that this will still increase flash counter and also it can't be done without a PC like the signed recovery method.
This is potentially a temporary solution for now and I will have to triangleaway to reset counter but I do hope we get a signed recovery soon.

[Q] Is it worth it to root?

I had a few questions about rootign and the SGS3.
1. Do i need to root to use launchers like nova and apex?
2. If I launch and mandatory updates come out will I be able to download them if I root?
3. Is it worth it?
Thanks in advance. Ive only rooted older phones that didnt regularly receive updates and my knowledge is extremely limited.

1. No.. those launchers will work without root
2. Not sure about this..
3. Up to you and what apps you use or like to use. There are some really great apps out there that require root. Think of having root the same as being an administrator on your PC. Lets you have TOTAL control of your device. I think its well worth it.. for me.. for someone who likes to use root apps!

I hesitated to root to ! I did it just to be adfree et to use Titanium Backup
Having rooted mine, I received notification OTA of the update yesterday but was unable to install OTA but no trouble updating via kies on the PC, just had to re-root again after the update.
It is ALWAYS worth it to root, lol. Who doesn't want root apps, custom ROMs and kernels, and the ability to remove bloatware??
Usually I will keep my smartphones untouched for several months until I got bored or I hit the limits of the phone.
I decided to root my old Desire because I was short of memory all the time, this can be solved only by having A2Sd+, EXT2SD, etc. ROMs which needs rooting for flashing.
I hit the limit for my Desire only after several weeks...so...I rooted it only after a few weeks. (I am still keeping this device )
I rooted my Sensation after 3 months...just got bored with the stock one...
(This baby is sold after 7 months (unrooted before selling)...I dunno, I do not like this device without any special reason...)
I dunno if I want to root my SGSIII at the moment...perhaps after several months..
I am currently still enjoying my stock SGSIII Hey! It is only a couple of days since I received this device
I managed to wait an entire 24 hours before rooting my S3. I felt that this demonstrated tremendous will power and self control.

I rooted to get rid of Samsung bloatware and to be able to use cwm. Really easy using the Toolkit (listed in the Dev section), and I was mighty pleased that Samsung chose to ship the phone with an unlocked bootloader.

I was exactly the same with my desire
As for whether to root or not i know everybody says it but it really is just a case of looking at why you would want to root vs the risks. I personally am waiting for a bit because I haven't seen a custom ROM i like enough or another reason to root (battery fix or Google wallet working for example)
However that being said rooting is always worth it because of all the extra apps and capabilities! And as far as I'm aware getting back to stock if it becomes faulty is as simple as flashing some stock firmware through Odin and using chainfires tiangleaway (someone correct me of i'm wrong please because not absolutely 100% on this)

[Q] Checking my Understanding Before Making a Move

Hi everyone,
I stumbled upon this forum when searching for a solution for a problem a few weeks ago. I have watched the noob video and believe I have made a proper effort in order to fix my problem myself without bothering anyone. I’d really appreciate if anyone could just make sure I understand things properly.
I, being completely naïve, followed some guide on YouTube on how to root my phone. On the video the yellow triangle that showed up seemed to be an indication that the root was successful.
Upon doing some reading on here I realized I had tripped the flash counter and what that means. Upon realizing this I began to read and try to figure out how to reset the flash counter.
Turns out I am on Android Build 2.3.6 (UCKK6) which to my understanding does not work with a jig. It seems to me that I can flash a 2.3.4 (UCKH7) and THEN I will be able to use a jig to reset my flash counter. I believe I need to use the second link in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=18859438&postcount=199
Just for reference would I need to flash a stock UCKK6 in order to fully restore my warranty? My phone originally came with 2.3.6.
After resetting the counter I intend to use method 2C in this thread in order to re-root my phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1311081
Am I correct in saying that in order to flash a custom ROM I need to use method 3A in the previous link in order to flash without tripping the counter / using ROM Manager? I plan on trying out CM7 first.
My Kernel Version is 2.6.35.7. I backed up my apps through Titanium since I really wrap my head around getting CWM working properly : (
Please let me know if I didn’t provide enough information or detail and I will do my best to get you whatever you may need. I’m very new to smartphones in general so please forgive me if I lack some understanding.
Thanks you for your time, it is greatly appreciated.
Just fyi, if you flash an ics rom you can reset the flash counter with an app.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=22462960
Flash stock UCLE5 ICS rom with Odin. Root them. After you can reset flash counter with TreangleAway.
You should be able to use the jig to reset the flash counter on UCKK6. The code that governs the flash counter is contained in the secondary bootloader. A few of the 2.3.6 leaks had a crippled secondary bootloader, but the OTA update from 2.3.4 did not touch the bootloader, and phones that shipped with UCKK6 had the original secondary bootloader.
If you for some reason have a phone with a crippled bootloader, confirmed by not being able to reset the flash counter with a jig, then you would need to flash the original secondary bootloader using Odin. There is an Odin flashable tar in the Download Repository.
The advice about flashing ICS and then using Triangle Away is also good.
If you want to stay on Gingerbread, then follow the guide. 2C and 3A are probably the easiest.
If you want ICS, go to this thread instead.

Noob question: Possible to root with apps ?

Hello i got a brand new S2 L9100 XWLPT 4.0.4 i did the firmware before i started doing anything, still when i was done i checked if i had root access with S2 root.exe and it it worked.
Sadly i could not get it to work with superuser i got no permission popup or anything and all the root apps kept telling me i had no root access so i decided to unroot and flash back to original and it worked fine.
Still i really want to root access and i will gladly spend some money to get if possible via apps.
If you want to easily obtain root permissions, it uses this tool http://www.unlockroot.com/ .....

If it was me I would flash a custom Kernel such as Siyah kernel because the stock kernel that comes with LPT firmware has the brick bug which BAD!
If you going to take the next step and root your phone, you really should remove that brick bug.
Siyah is probably most widely used custom kernel on the S2 but there are many out there and all good for differnet things
For easy root use method 1 from 1st guide in my signature. For free

Dear Saucefar,
Your firmware has brick bug on its kernel. This means it can potentially spoil your phone,if you need with it.
There is no need to panic though, just continue reading.
After rooting your device,
-Please do not wipe your DATA or FACTORY Reset your phone. Don't try it
- Flash a custom kernel immediately. I recommend Siyah or Speedmod kernel.
It's better to be safe than sorry

[Q] I've Rooted my phone and wish I hadn't.

Upgraded from my Rooted Galaxy S1 to a shiny new S3 and rooted because it did improve the performance of the S1.
Since doing so my phone intermittently turns off and restarts.
Its a UK phone on Tmobile. Will some kind soul point me in the right direction on how to get my phone back to stock.
I rooted the phone using Odin. I have deleted most of the rooted apps the exceptions being cwm manager, root checker, super user and voodoo ota rootkeeper.
Any help appreciated
Thanks

Google for Branded ROMs and reflash through Odin the original ROM if you "wish you hadnt rooted" your phone...there could be many reasons that cause such issues...such as the phone hardware itself which in your case regardless of rooted or not will still present such issues...if it was a software issue, either you have selected the incorrect insecure kernel or...your phone has no love for you.
Factory reset will solve ur problem

Go into recovery and fix permissions. If that fails, like the other person stated, factory reset. If that doesn't work. The rooting process must have messed up when you did it. Use Odin and factory firmware to go back to stock. Then try the root process again. But look for another method to do so. I am not on TMobil so I don't know how that works with that phone. But there are a ton of posts here that explain everything in detail going forward and backwards. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

>>> Root cannot improve performance by itself .

..>>>>Possible bad flash
Run Triangle away to reset rom counter to zero .
Download your firmware via CHECKFUS flash via Odin boot then factory reset .

[Q] Rooting i9300 after Motherboard failure service fix

Hey guys,
I just got back with my SGS3 from service. Two weeks ago, after installing Siyah v1.8, phone died. Not right after. I flashed it in the evening, the phone was dead in the morning. Motherboard failure.
I describe this, so u can uderstand my concerns.
Now, the phone is back, fully working, with stock 4.1.2 installed. I need to recover my backup from before the crash, therefore i need root.
I'm scrolling through the subjects of rooting and I'm highly confused. Chainfire is not supporting CWM anymore, and from his topic i dont get how the hell I can flash Omega rom, without CWM. I don't get this whole flashing counter problem. But there is the triangle away app, so what is the problem about?!
I cant find one, most updated, straight method of rooting and I don't want to say goodbye to my phone again for two weeks.
I'm not a master in those things. Please explain, if I will root with CF-AutoRoot, how do I install Omega ROM (or any other)? Will it be possible through the custom recovery? If I install CF-AutoRoot, can I install CWM?
Please lead me with this. I don't want to brick my phone again
Simply use cf root that includes cwm .
Otherwise you will need to read Chainfires instruction .

Install cf auto root, and after that cwm (touch) recovery and after that you can install everything you need
