So I noticed my messages were ahead by a few mins a while back, but never thought to check until now. I had just assumed that the time would be correct as it pulls it automatically.
However I checked it today after googling what the actual UTC time was and my phone is +3 mins against what it should be. This seems crazy that such a fundamental thing could be so out of whack.
I have changed the time manually, but really I would like the auto update to be correct as it should be. Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
I am UTC London.
hi there,
same problem here. my time's always wrong. also about +3min.
also when i set time manually, it takes a couple of days until it's wrong again...
Yea, I set it manually just after this post, and it back out of whack again now.
Same here. Can't think of any reasonable explanation for it!
Today, my phone is in sync, fingers crossed it lasts
I cant believe this isn't a more widespread issue, I know its not my carrier as I have other phones that I can put my sim in and it doesn't have the same problem. To me it seems like a software bug, but if this was the case there should be droves of people in this thread complaining about it and solutions via a google search, but there is just nothing...
Would be interested to hear if there are any other Lumia users reading this thread that have time that works just fine, maybe help to narrow down what is different about the few of us that have out of sync time. It really bugs me
I'm in the UK on T-mob and my time is constantly +3mins.

This might be the cause or may not, but it is funny how 1sec can crash whole internet:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-57461756-1/leap-second-june-30-to-be-longer-than-other-days/
Food for thoughts:
http://googleblog.blogspot.de/2011/09/time-technology-and-leaping-seconds.html
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leap_second
http://www.nasa.gov/topics/solarsystem/features/extra-second.html
heard about it;s caused by hardware issue ,somewhere in CPU has turned into a wrong frequency so the time goes wrong,
i have check this carefully and i found it's 10seconds faster per day
The time should be set by the internet, as most phones are, so even if it got thrown by 1 sec it should be fixed as soon as it gets updated.
If you have the phone on manual time it seems to stay correct, but obviously this means I stand a good chance of being late/early for work when the clocks go back/forward
Just realised mine was too, said 5:17pm when it was 5:13pm by my PC sync'd to time server
710, o2 UK
Same problem, not just with auto
Edit: I have the 800
Mine always seems to end up about 2-3 mins out, I left it for a month or so once just to see and it ended up at about 5 mins fast! I'm on 3 (UK) and my previous phones never had this problem, and my girlfriend has the 710 also on 3 and hers is fine! I've tried it on auto as well as manual and both result in time being out, seems like a hardware fault :crying:
Yep, mine is always wrong too.

Same problem here. So, does anybody know how to fix this issue? Seems that this behaviour only exists if I trun my phone off sometimes.

after looking into this the problems lie with the way the phone gets the time i think its using NITZ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NITZ)
so if the carrier does not support NITZ then the phone will not update the time.
I think android devices get there time from google services & not NITZ

Well I loaded in the new sprint rom last night, and now my phone is completely useless. The radio has major problems, my signal goes from nothing to 4 bars, back and fourth, and the phone goes into permanent sleep mode when I let it sit. I found this out when I woke up this morning and missed 10 calls from a client havign an emergency overnight... wonderful. I have it sitting here on the desk, and it will go to sleep and require a reset every hour or so.
I haven't had any of those problems.
WM6 lag is basically gone now and the keyboard lag is gone.
Everything is WAY more responsive and the memory leaks seem better so far.
The memory "leak" / Cacheing is more managable, and the device isn't as laggy.
I've had no problems at all. I'm loving it.

my MOGUL also goes into Perminant sleep if I let it sit.
i've had to take out the battery about 4 times just today.
anyone know why this could be?
Me too
Got the same problem installed last night. Woke up got into the car and checked phone sleeping had to soft start. Then same thing at least 3 times today. Also watched a short video in MP and it was show a few sec then sleep. Soft start and then you could watch it. Seems like after being on for a couple of hrs phone runs out of memory or something a freezes up?

Check your power setting setup, maybe it's set to turn the device completely off after 1min etc... For some reason my phone never shut off even if I let it set idle for more than 30 mins like it was set to do. Perhaps with the ROM update it actually does what it's supposed to now. Just an idea.
it's not supposed to TURN OFF as in shut down, it's just supposed to sleep. and it never comes out of sleeping mode. i've had numerous other problems, with bluetooth, etc... going back to Colonels rom, which was much more dependable.

i too loaded it yesterday as well, but i want to wonder if you did a hard reset before you installed the rom. i did it, and it gave me no problems at all with radio version 1.47.00... oh, and the phone automatically cuts off when the alarm goes off while you charge it overnight (a big no-no, but you probably know this as well, but i ain't mad at ya). if you got anything, feel free to PM me. thanks in advance.

Mine's still leaking, badly too.
Any of you try to use BT on this new rom?
If you did you'd know that this rom is worthless
-mark
The culprit appears to be the 1.47 radio. The 1.47 radio coupled with any rom version will experiance sleeping, bt and other problems.... so I am rolling back to 1.40 radio to see how it acts
As a tech in a corporate sprint store, i'd be interested in the details behind this "sleep mode" issue. What are ppl running? How can I, in the store, reproduce the problem? Is it reproducable on command or guaranteed, or is it hit or miss?
As I've said, I have the new Rom and Radio, and have no new issues, and the memory "leak" / cache issue isn't gone, but its definetly not as bad, the OS even seems to have a SLIGHTLY smaller ram foot print... maybe just a few megs smaller, but smaller on my device.

I tried that. The 1.40 radio with the new ROM still had all the new bugs.
D-pad cutting in and out...
I have found that if I push the power button to put the phone to sleep when it stops working, then turn back on, the d-pad works again. This seems to get it back to working. I wish that they could just get it right...
Jim
How do you get the new ROM?
I haven't updated yet, plan to over the weekend, but I would suggest anyone having problems to stop and consider their setup first...
What programs are installed that could cause problems?
What registry hacks have been done that may cause problems?
What configuration settings might need reset that may cause problems?
For example, after a hard reset, Enhanced Network over USB is enabled by default, and this often causes Active Sync to have issues. Likewise, power management tweaks will have reverted to defaults and you may like a more finely tuned setup.
As for memory leaks being better/worse, you may have programs installed that are out of date/buggy.
I realize it's easier to jump on the "this sucks" bandwagon, but it doesn't help you or other users with legitimate problems when no consideration is given to what is causing a given problem.
These situations are precisely why the instructions tell you that EVERYTHING will be erased. This is a good thing since it forces you to clean house, but it also means you have to pay attention to those things you often neglect or may have changed ages ago and forgotten.
Finally, if all else fails, try the ROM update again. Sometimes things go wrong.
Sorry if this seems like a rant, I just want people having issues to place blame where it truly belongs. After considering these matters, if you still have problems, definitely let HTC and the rest of us know.
Best Regards,
Aaron
Sorry, it's not anybody's installed programs. The bugs show up with nothing else but the bare ROM.
It's a train wreck.

Clean rom, nothign changed at all, it sucks, clearly. We are the beta testers obviously, as usual, with most products today
I installed the new ROM after backing up with SPB Backup, then installed my backup file back on and I haven't noticed any issues. I don't use bluetooth however, so I can comment on that. But, I haven't had the sleep issue others are describing either.
hey everybody
I must say, I love this phone. Coming from an HTC S710, I really must say that it has improved in so many ways that it makes the S740 pretty much the phone I always wanted.
However, there is one thing that keeps annoying me, maybe someone else has also made this experience: My Wifi sometimes acts up. What I mean is, sometimes (read hardly ever) it works just like its supposed to, most of the times it takes somewhere between 30 seconds and up to 4 minutes to.. well, I dunno exactly, to load the driver I suppose, and occassionally it won't switch on at all. A soft reset will fix this most of the time.
I have yet to find out what triggers this. Also, I have tried several hard resets, and even with a completely clean device, literally seconds after whiping it completely, this behaviour consists..
Please share if you have experienced something similar
-ombre-
I had problems with Wifi on my devices in the past. Switching power mode (Settings->Connections->WLAN settings->Power Mode) to maximum performance always helped, therefor I automatically switched it on my S740.
You should give it a try. If that doesn't help I would say you probably have a faulty unit.
Yeah, I remember that from my S710. Wifi wouldn't work properly if it wasn't set to max performance. Already tried that, to no avail. Will have a replacement in a couple of days, maybe I just got a lemon this time..
[update]
received a new unit today, no more such problems. must have been a faulty unit.
Glad to hear that.
Wifi driver
can anyone help me in downloading the wifi driver for HTC s710
can anyone help me find the wifi driver for HTC s740???
i downloaded a progam, that made my sound go boom, i uninstalled it and later i tried to turn on wifi, it goes off after about 2secs..
WTF!?
Edit: Solved o'o
It works! I mean yor advice! Thank ya! ;]

If you gps isnt accurate, or takes forever to lock on, or is just not working
goto
settings--->Location & security---> uncheck vzw location services
try to use Standalone GPS services by itself, if not use Standalone and Google. just make sure the vzw one is off.
I tested with some people and it worked for them too.
WoW.... it really works... Just confirmed it myself. I am rooted, I did NOT do lagfix and updated to DI01
confirmed worked. it took 2 sec and was almost 100% accurate. with all 3 checked it was hit and miss and when it did find me it wasnt accurate and it took anywhere from 3-5 min to find me and it was usually about 1-2 football fields away,, still on old software, no update for me yet and no root
nice find

I have had that unchecked since the phone came out and still had problems. If there was any fix it was from the update.
unchecked... no difference, lock time is still measured around 1-2 mins.

Worked great for me. I was getting fed up waiting on the damn thing to lock onto me while I was driving and needed to find a place quick and directions. Thanks for the heads up.

Take it in to verizon and show them... They will give you a new phone.
So are you guys getting GPS locks in a matter of seconds all the time, even after reboot? Mine takes a few minutes all the time to get a lock, or else is very inaccurate. If I wait for the lock I get accurate to within feet, and it'll stay that way.
Well, I thought that worked for me until I rebooted my phone to see if it really worked. No dice.
From what I understand (and I could be wrong) essentially what you are doing is turning off the cell phone triangulation that google/verizon provide and sticking with just the straight GPS unit. I don't necessary see why turning off the "rough location" would effect the warm up time of the GPS unit, but maybe it actually does.
Just didn't work on mine after my GPS unit was cold.
Does anyone know if this is a hardware issue or software?
Browsing multiple forums brings up slews of the same complaints, but no one has put forth any kind of solution, nor has Samsung.
I have all location services enabled, and I get locks virtually instantly almost all the time, and it's always accurate to within probably a few feet. Maybe I'm just lucky?
I'd hate to say it, but I fear it is hardware, seeing as I have yet to have a lock take more than 10 seconds, usually 4 or less.
This is really the first time I've been on the good side of a widespread issue.
Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
Yeah all of these "fixes" are merely temporary. All they are doing in storing the satelite info so they ock faster. If you reboot and turn off GPS for more than a few minutes it will start all over again. I will be paying VZW a visit tomorrow to see what they will do about since it seems not all phones are affected by this.
And I use my GPS a lot. The other day I was trying to find backway home and my GPS was so far off by the time it locked I was already stuck in traffic, had it locked normally, I would have been home free, my Droid1 would have never done this to me!!
I've only had issues with getting a lock after the GPS hasn't been used for a while. Lately, I've been wondering if some people who don't have issues have some type of app installed that periodically queries GPS? For example, I just installed the Asurion app that is supposed to check my location every hour. I haven't fully tested it yet, but now I'm wondering if this will keep GPS on frequently enough to the point where it won't have to re-start with the delay.
BTW... in early testing (when I first got the phone), I would wait to get a lock (maybe a minute), then after I got a lock I rebooted the phone and I still got an instant lock. So, once a lock is obtained, it seems like it keeps it for a while - even after a reboot. The main times I've had issues have been in the morning after the phone has been charging all night while asleep.

Yeah, I have a fascinate and so does my girlfriend. Locks both take minutes at the very least.
If this is hardware or if anyone has some legit theories, I'd like to know before my 30 days is up so I can de-root mine and exchange them both for phones that actually get a lock in a decent amount of time.
Hi guys.
My phone shuts down at random moments. I can boot it up again by holding the power button for about 10 seconds. Sometimes, not always, the phone feels hot and batterylife dropped. I have been struggling with this problem ever since i got this phone. I hoped to solve it with installing a new kernel and rom. I am now on Slimbean 3.1.0. The phone was initially on XLQ6 4.0.4. This didn't change anything, unfortunately.
I have also tried:
- removing external SD
- placing a new battery (which has no room to move, in case anyone suggests the battery might be moving)
- wiping caches
The strange thing is that my friend has bought his i9100 together with mine in the same order. He is also on XLQ6 and is experiencing the same issues. Less often than me, however.
My smalband is still on XLQ6. Is it possible that this causes my problems? Or is it more likely that my friend and me simply bought phones from a bad batch or something (hardware related)? I really don't want to send back my phone. That is my absolute last resort.
EDIT: Problem solved! Installing the application "Load Monitor" and enabling the "wake lock" function has done the trick. No more shutdowns or reboots!
Anyone?
2 devices with the same issue?
I'd be at the store where I bought it right now.
I will do that when I am absolutely sure that it is hardware related. However, if anyone has a potential solution I would really like to solve this issue myself.

Same with me. change from 4.0.4 WLPT to 4.0.4 WLPY but problem still presists.
Does anyone know if changing smalband (if that is possible?) could make a difference? Because that is the only similarity to the original state of my phone. A lot of AT&T users in the USA experienced the same problems also with 4.0.4. However, nobody can come up with a solution.

Because I don't like to lose my phone for a couple of weeks. And I prefer to fix these things myself. I have seen so many topics about this on XDA and Google. There must be a solution to it.
Is it possible that these problems are caused by my modem? That is the only unchanged thing since I have had this phone.
I might have found a possible solution. I've read something on a Dutch forum about sim-cards causing these issues. So I have placed a new sim-card and the problem hasn't appeared in the last 3 days. Before that, the problem was occuring about 3-6 times in one day. It's too early to say this has solved my problem, but it definitely made a difference so far. If it keeps functioning perfectly for the next couple of days I will close this topic.
Symptoms were merely reduced. Phone still shuts down approximately each 2 days. Much better than it was before though. Why would a sim-card change reduce, but not solve the problem? This is starting to hurt my brain.

You may experience sleep of death. What WiFi chipset do you have? I had the same issue on a Murata Wi-Fi chipset.
Yup, Murata chipset. I've googled some more on SoD. I have now installed an app called "Load Monitor" and enabled Wake Lock in preferences. This should prevent the phone from going into deep sleep, apparantly.
Some portugal carrier had a problem with lte sim card or something like that.
I really don't see how a sim card can actually mess with a phone.
Maybe the enabling of some features screws it up.

In my case Samsung Service Team replaced the motherboard. My new MB has a Samsung Electronics wifi chipset. Two weeks now and no SoD.
That sounds good. However, ever since I have installed Load Monitor my phone runs fine. It drains approximately 40% of my entire battery, but it lasts easily until the end of the day.
But again, I shouldn't get too excited. Sim-card change seemed to work in the first few days as well.
Will be continued...
It has been over a week since I have installed Load Monitor. My phone hasn't shut down once. Problem appears to be solved! I hope more people will read this topic, because I have seen a lot of desperate people during my search to a solution.
The only disadvantage is the battery usage of the application. I now have approximately 40-50% at the end of the day instead of 60-70%.

I have been using my AT&T black Lumia920 for about 2 weeks now. It runs Portico out of box (maybe, dont actually remember). I have been a WP7 user since launch so I know how windows phone works.
The first 3 days on Lumia 920 were fine, everything went well, however starting from the 4th morning I noticed the phone wont wake up by pressing the power button, nor did the alarm sound. I had to soft reset to power up the phone. So simply it's sleep of death. This happens every night and occasionally happen during day time when I leave the phone for a few hours.
4 days ago I cant bear the problem anymore so did a hard reset then flashed Rogers ROM on it. However after I reinstall some of my previous apps the phone wont wake up again. I looked into the backgroud loading apps and uninstalled Engadget, the phone did make it to the next morning. However after I got a few other apps from the marketplace the phone is dead in mornings again. I cant figure out if this is an app issue or system issue this time.
Anyone else having this problem? Should I request a replacement phone?

I have this same issue but I on;y have it at home where cell signal is garbage.
If I'm at work (in the city) i have zero issues.
If I work from home the phone will SOD more than once in an 8 hour period.
I'm curious, do you have a strong signal all of the time?

Signal is medicore at home where I charge, I use the phone a lot during the day so I cant really tell if SOD happens when siganl is good.
I don't think it has to do with the Signal. Me and my wife both have the Lumia 920 on the same Network, my wife never had this issue, I have it almost every day... I'm currently trying to get a replacement.
that happened to me once or twice before flashing portico, after flashing it never happened again

I've had this issue, I really never payed too much attention to it but its happening more often lately, with my wife having power button issues on her iphone 5 I began to think that mine was too having the same problem. But I can actually feel the button clicking which is something I can't feel with my wife's phone.
Nokia store updates to blame?
I've been having the same issue since I bought the device. It only wakes up after pressing the VolDown-Power combination.
My device has been running the Portico update out-of-the-box (8.0.10211.204).
To see if I could pinpoint the issue, I have been wiping my device and start all over. The wipe has been done last Friday night.
About 30 minutes after initial installation it prompts me for 6 Nokia updates:
* access Point
* network+
* accessories
* audio
* display+touch
* extras+info
This time, for the first time, I have NOT applied any of these updates, and until now it has not hung.
Another thing I noticed in the past is that when I disconnect from the charger (either cabled or wireless) it makes a sound.
After applying these updates in the past that sound was gone.
I will see if my phone keeps working throughout the week and then install the updates to see what happens next.

I tried the same, didn't work. Then what I did was uninstalling each one of those apps (my update list was bigger but some i couldn't uninstall as they were system settings) and then installing them back on the device instead of updating. No "SOD's" since, and i've had a lot. Hope it stays this way Either way I'm hoping the next update from nokia will fix these kinds of things.
Cheers!

I have the same problem but I think that is related to notifications, after uninstalling apps that used push notifications the phone last longer before it goes to SOD. If I use skype and whatsapp a lot the phone SOD more often and more frecuent too when I have it in my pants pockets.
I've never tried not installing the updates and the phone is wih the carrier so I can't test
I had several issues with this, and here on the forums I have made several posts thinking it was because the Keep WiFi on. But it is not!
I think it might be Battery App related. Or some other app, as some1 noted, possibly because of push notifications.
I had the last SOD several days ago, I have turned on Keep WiFi on, no SOD so far, yet before it was like several hrs after it was turned on. Also, I had overheating of the device on 2 occasions, then I have uninstalled EverNote, and everything worked fine. Again 4-5 dasys ago I had the second overheating issue, and the phone was in stand-by whole the time, I turned it off, waited 30 secs, turned it back on, no issues so far.
So, for now I cannot say what the trouble is except it is NOT OS related, it is APP related (probably an app with push notification).
The solution? Pretty unpopular, but that is the only 1, except for hard reset. Uninstall all the non-system apps from the phone, and install them back 1 by 1, and testing each app at least 24 hrs.
So far, the "safe apps" are:
[My] Windowsphone
2013 FIa Formula 1
Accuweather
Any Converter
App Deals
Archiver
Assistant WP7
Box
Battery
Chrync
Cloudy Box
XE Currency
Flashlight
GDrive
GSMArena RSS
HERE (all of them)
Michelin travel
MSN
myAppFree
NFC Interactor
PDF Reader (from pompolutz)
Ringtones
Shift Scheduler
Shrink Storage
Skype
Speedtest
Speedtest.net
Viber
Wake My PC
WhatsApp
WPCentral
Ofcourse this list is far from final, but it will give u some idea what I am using, and so far I have no SODs (Thank God)
How long has it been since the last SOD?

In the last 3 weeks I had 1 SOD, that last one 8 days ago. And that happened very strangely, I have received an email (heard the sound), and since my phone was in my hand I immediatelly pressed the power button, and the screen didn't come on. Tried 2 more times, and I knew what happened, so I did a soft reset and that was that. From that time, no SODs.
Is this issue limited to certain ROMS or non AT$T models? I have had mine for 3 months now and have yet to have the SOD and I have even recently ran the OTA update and still no SOD two weeks after that OTA.
I got the same issue with my Lumia 920 (European network/sim unlocked). Happened once after night and already twice during the day... . Phone has all latest updates installed... no idea what to do...

Review what apps u have installed. I think I have proven that it is push, and app related. Possibly even some battery app is responsible for this. Try uninstalling some apps, and to see what will happen.
Well, basically I got my phone back from the carrier it passed 5 days of monitoring without SOD and after 24 hours in my hands it happened. I did a hardreset to my phone to clear all my info before giving it to the carrier and now I'm sure that is some kind of app or at least a function that isn't often used by the OS.
I don't know if a flash could fix the issue since not everyone is experiencing the problem.
In my case it seems that the issue is increasing in its frequency...
I think I will have to go to Nokia Care Centre
1308 update seems to have solved this issue. At least 4 me.
My phone does not show any updates available
Got my phone yesterday and today it was in SOD. Luckily I woke up earlier than planned. Have a meeting today and things like this is fatal.
I need to be able to rely on the alarm on my phone.
Is there some way of disabling push notifications for apps, like in iOS? That would help a lot in this case, as it seems it's caused by push notifications.
