How I can install recovery? It built into kernel, but kernel requires recovery installed.
Also what you will recommend to flash? I think Doom Kernel + KA07 Rom is the best choice for now.

Ok here's the thing.
I wanna make a backup of cwm 5.0.2.7 which I obtain from a stock CF 5.0 kernel and then make a flashable zip of this recovery so that I can flash it after flashing other kernels like speedmod etc which have an older cwm 4.0.1.5
This way I can get a newer recovery with the latest custom kernel
So basically I wanna know how do we make a custom flashable zip of your current recovery ? A quick response would be appreciated .
Cheers XDA Community ! Forever faithful .
Don't think that's possible, recovery is part of the kernel, you need a kernel that has the specific recovery that you want. Siyah's kernel uses the latest 5.0.2.7 recovery so that's what you need to flash, if speedmod use an older one you simply have to flash siyah's kernel.
Phone info:
WT19i || rooted || unlocked bootloader || cwm
android 2.3.4
stock rom
x kernel
build 4.0.2.A.0.58
downloaded latest nightly CM from here: http://www.get.cm/?device=coconut&type=nightly
confused which kernel to download from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24553704&postcount=75
I'm a bit confused. Can you please help me?
Please correct me if this is wrong...
Steps I'm about to take:
Flash rage kernel -> then flash cm7. (or do i need to reflash stock kernel first?)
Questions:
- Can I flash kernel and rom from CWM?
- Will I lose my root/cwm when I do the steps?
- If I accidentally flash a kernel that is incompatible with the rom what would happen?
- Any list of kernels that works well with CM7?
Thanks for helpers.
Help. I'm having a hard time installing rage kernel 2.9 for FXP, after I flash it. It won't boot and it won't enter recovery mode. Because of that, I can't install the cm7.2 rom. For now I went back to X kernel. x______X Help please?
Or do I install the rom first before the kernel? Help pleaseee...
Edit: Nvm, fixed it. Found the solution on the original Rage kernel thread
- "If you used KRsH Kernel or X kernel before you need to restore /system/lib/modules/ with stock files. Or just simply flash this: signed-mango_stock_modules.zip (2.3.4) or this ics_wifi_modules-signed.zip (4.0.4) via recovery."

- Kernel can only be installed via fastboot, read forum or my tutorial for more info. For better battery life, use Rage Kernel 2.7 from that topic. ROM needs to be installed via Recovery.
- Root and CWM are included in the kernel already, no need to worry about that.
- Bootloop.
- That Rage Kernel and the original kernel provided with the ROM(in .zip file).

These modules are only related to WiFi.
First install the kernel, else you cannot install the ROM in Recovery.
Make sure your bootloader is unlocked, then install the kernel via fastboot, then enter Recovery(already in kernel, no need to install) and install the ROM.
Hi, I am planning to isntall FXP146 over my stock .587 rom for my mini. My query is , do I need to install the rom before installing the custom kernel (like MESA) or the other way around? Or any order would do.
And which kernel is recommended for FXP if I am not into overclocking (MESA or Stock FXP) ??

You can use which you want, if you want more functions, use mesa.
You can flash kernel or rom first, normally this doesn't really matter. Only the clockworkmod version could change compared to the kernel you are using currently
Just flash the kernel then the rom or flash the rom then the kernel. You can use the kernel in the zip or mesa if u want more cpu governors & i/o scheduler like Mihahn said (better battery life too )
thanks guys for all the help.. yes i am using the MESA kernel, and i dont think anything can get better... loving cyanogenmod xD
help D:

First install a custom kernel. As most of custom rom required a custom kernel. So better have a custom kernel as you may need to switch to others custom rom in future. As for now, I personally recomended KernelPanic( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1861905 ). I use Panic with Real ICS V6 custom rom and they works like a charm. Mesa provide good battery lifes but lack of perfomances and bad sound quality(i tried it myself before turn to Panic). You may try Rage kernel and Krsh as well. But there are abit old now, haven't updated since last few months. But still they are good kernels. Do some research before taking action's always a good idea. Cheers!
when i use new kernels such as rage v3.1 some games installed on my device (xperia mini) force closes... what seems to be the problem with this? now i am using serenity rom and kernel 2.6.32.9-perf [email protected]#1. i need CWM for flashing new roms but my kernel dont support it... I use xparts but it needs wifi connections in order to install the CWM and after i used it, i cant flash anymore? please help. Thanks.
Use flashtool to change to any desired kernel. That might fix the problem

On custom kernels you don't need xparts, because cwm is included in the kernel.
For the FCs, just try another kernel...
hi,
i have a custom kernel of cm9.
i want to flash new rom of cm10. can i just flash it from the recovery? or i have to flash it via fastboot?
thanks
To run cm10 u need a jb kernel..
So first flash custom kernel (boot.img)
Then flash rom zip..
Wipe if asked to
U can flash any kernel via cwm if it made cwm flashable..no matter for cm9 or 10
