Which ROM has the best battery life in your guys' opinion?

On viperROM I got about a day and a half of battery before it died on me. And I was running his dual core ultimate mod along with it.

wow! im currently on pkmn ROM, and its great, but the battery life could be better. i can barely last a day with it though. so i guess viper rom is the one to install?
every phone is diff.. a rom thats good on battery for one lte mite not be for another.. to be honest i got better battery life when i was stock not rooted not unlocked.. my battery life is still good but it was deff better for me when i was stright stock..

I felt stock was better too at first, but then I realized that I just obsess over battery life more now since I actually see the percentages drop... I now prefer not seeing the percentages, haha. I know it's dumb, but it's true.

I think the stock should run the best....
Right now I am running the Fresh rom (bc i had it on my old evo and the battery was always good) Right now I cant tell you which is the best one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696645 (fresh rom)
But If the battery on fresh rom sucks I'm going to try this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1696645
it has stock everything except that the dev added some goodies.
I really want a rom to be able to push my bat to 35 hours or more, that would be sick.
I got the stock rom to go 24 hours and having 45 percent batt life but i didnt use the talk function
So if anyone else has more applied knowledge on this topic i would like to read what there opinion
Have a look here...

I just got done with my battery test on this ROM and it is remarkable. Nearly 7 hours of screen time. I don't believe I'll be flashing anything else for a while.

You must be at minimum brightness, right? Personally I can't see the screen in such conditions, but I'm on the international One X and there is no way that I'd ever get 7 hours of screen time no matter what I do.
Were you surfing the internet as well alot?
What is the increase in battery life with Flex's rom?

I had it set at auto brightness the entire time. I'm not willing to give up the best part of the phone. I was using my data connection a lot (3G and Wifi) for XDA app, browse web pages, downloading podcasts, updating apps. I never thought I'd see 7 hours of screen time either. This is still shocking to me. It's not like I put my phone on lockdown. I used it a lot.
When I took my phone out of the box, I got 2-3 hours screen time, I rooted and monitored/tweaked settings and I got 4 hours of screen time.
Then I flashed this ROM and something magical happened. Don't know what, but I am happy. The phone sleeps well when the screen is off. The only thing I really did of any note was allow wifi to sleep when not plugged in.
Now I have to see if it was a fluke.
now i dont know whether i should switch to the updated FRESH ROM or stay with flex's. do u guys know which ROM has better battery life?
thanks for the good word guys

ill release my update tomorrow. ive been optimizing apks for the past 4 hours. i hope its worth it lol.

Actually they both have Sense and Senseless roms. So, which are you referring to?
Most likely you are asking about Sense based roms.
I have ran both and currently am sticking with Nightly builds of Synergy. I just love the speed. And, my internet speeds on 3g, 4g, and wifi are all extremely faster with Synergy.

These are the only two that I have flashed thus far and I have been able to try these out for about three days each now and haven't noticed anything very different between the two... The phone is still really fast regardless of which I have installed and the battery life is disappointing (~ 9-10 hours) compared to stock (~13-16 hours). I think I will flash something else and maybe come back to these two at some point to see if anything has improved.

Ummm, try Showdown 1.0.
I like viper over synergy, more stability and I like his oc daemon script. Showdown is nice and very esthetically pleasing and its snappy but it lacks full stability Imo as well. Hope that helps.
So far every rom has given me around 10 hours of battery with moderate use if I don't play stuff like order and chaos all day.

Rom and Kernal are rock solid. No reboots or weird stuff at all. It has Sense removed. That is what saves a lot of battery. Any Amaze running Faux's Kernel will have a lot better battery life anyway. Sense or not.

That maybe but I like sense being gone. That battery life is good for me. I had nothing but trouble with wifi on energy. Trust I had the right kernel all that. Great for eye candy though.
Really fauxs kernel makes the biggest difference at least in my experience.
I am running energy right now and it is giving me the best battery life so far with the stock kernel and some profiles set with setCPU. And capromalpha is running a close second, I have tried just about all the available ROM's and I'm settling on energy, even though I don't like sense that much the theme makes it more bearable + I have finally been able to get through a day without needing to charge my battery halfway through.
Now I just sit and wait for CM9 or a stable AOSP.
My 2 cents.

I also settled on Energy 031012 w/Stock Kernel. I use my phone A LOT and it seems to be the best route for me. My battery lives vary depending on what im doing so its not really consistant. But if I hardly use it it last a good 24hrs+
I just started messing with System Tuner. So hopefully stupid apps, like Maps Friend Finder, stops running in the background.

Imho, Energy is the most stable that we have. You can usually tell by the issues (or lack there of) listed in the thread... And if you notice NRGZ thread stays pretty off-topic because there's nothing to report... I did like BP2.5 though, and will call it a close second. I prefer the themeing and battery of energy myself

installed android revolution HD, as the link for energyrom wasn't working(md5sum did not match).
So based on recommendations in this thread I switched to Energy ROM (though not a huge fan of Sense). So far the battery seems to be significantly better even comparing to CapRomAlpha.
But everybody in this thread also implied that the Energy is the most stable custom ROM for Amaze. Yet I can not get WiFi or bluetooth working - it does not turn on (says "error" for Wifi and bluetooth just does not turn on). If battery life keeps going like this I definitely want to stick with this ROM but lack of working Wifi and BT is a serious problem.
Any word of advise or recomendation would be greatly appreciated....
Thanks.
Go to Energy Rom thread post #4 and download the stock kernel flasher.
Unzip the folder to your desktop and open the unzipped folder. Plug in your device, charge only, and turn on usb debugging via settings>applications>development. Then run the flash.bat batch file from unzipped folder and you're done
nav200, thanks for your response.
I was just about to post the "never mind" message as I found the same information myself. But thanks anyway. Totally makes sense that kernel did not flash in recovery with the ROM coming from a stock and CapRomAlpha roms.
I am really intrigued right now. I was already getting a better battery life but that was even with the wrong kernel and therefore no OC daemon in play. It should be even better now. I am recharging my battery to 100% now and will wipe the battery stats to start over. Will post with results later.

I'm trying to figure it out which ICS rom to flash based on battery life and I've narrowed it down to Mean Rom ICS and Viper Redline ICS, and I was wondering if anyone would mind posting pics of the battery times.
MEAN ICS v2.0
I'm currently running MR ICS 2.0 and I'm getting pretty decent batter life. I'll have a screen shot in the morning as I haven't actually measured so I'll do an overnight test and have the screenshot up in the AM. I haven't tried the ViperROm though.

Or it could be what he has on his Screen. For Example he could have an alternative Launcher with one homescreen and a clock widget. And also i heard that if you use a regular black wallpaper it could save you quite amount of power. So maybe could throw in a Black Wallpaper in there.

Can't blame a device for being sluggish when you installed an aftermarket firmware. That's similar to complaining about a firm ride after installing an aftermarket suspension.
I would say go back to stock unrooted and see how it runs.

the gs4 in general is a very laggy, sluggish phone. the hardware doesn't seem to matter; touchwiz supercedes that and it lags it out like crazy.
i've seen varying reports of people who were happier with the Note 2 in terms of speed and less heat, and regretted selling theirs for an S4.
i sold my s3 towards an s4, so i can't say i agree with them, bc i was never a big note 2 fan...but hell, even the s3 was less sluggish than this phone.
stock rooted/unrooted on this thing is even slower than custom roms..hell, beans 2 is the quickest rom in my opinion.

I actually came from a note 2, I kept it on stock unrooted and it ran the same as my s4. You guys are both noticing lag but are on the same ROM. I'm not bashing roms or devs, but nowadays, manufacturers are doing such a great job in customizability and speed that many custom roms only slow down or kill battery life.
The first phone I realized this on was my rezound. Most of the scripts and "tweaks" incorporated are all placebo and do nothing. There's devs that create Roms and add "faster and better battery life" like in every update changelog that it becomes ridiculous.
This phone stock does as much as cm7 did in terms of customization but some people still find reasons just to bash stock firmware.

I wonder if there are some marginal SOCs out there that have a lot of throttling issues or something, because I don't notice any lag.
Sent from my SCH-I545 using xda premium
I love this phone, but notice some slight lag when transitioning between apps and other things. My last couple phones were really bad for lag until switching to slimmed out custom ROMS (usually AOSP.) TouchWiz has lots of nice features that I enjoy, but I'd bet AOSP/CM/AOKP/etc will run much quicker once the quirks are ironed out.
On another note, I seem to remember other carriers getting a pretty quick update which made the phone less laggy. Obviously it also broke root exploits (I think) but nevertheless a lag fix would be nice. I'm stock rooted for now, but am watching development on several roms.
its got nothing to do with the rom I'm running. the s4 is laggy out of the box. clean rom was laggy, hyperdrive was laggy. beans id the least laggy of them all. don't get me wrong, I love my s4, its just laggy lol. Im sure some updates will help it.

With such high demand for the device there is no doubt it was rushed. You don't produce and move this many units without cutting corners. As Jay said previously I believe some leaks down the line should fix some issues that people are having.

Im sorry but think anout what you just asked. why would a BRAND NEW flagship phone not get the next android version? Jesus christ, use some logic.
Someone forgot their midol.

There will probably be a 4.3 to come, ~six months after everybody else gets it. Thanks for posting this in the right section. There are at least 4 question posts on the front page of General right now.

Having a slopped together no custom kernel 4.3 build isn't all that enticing to me.
But I do have by own build that boots. Its OK. It feels and looks exactly like 4.2.2 ge. The differences are that it really is aosp vs tw-aosp.

Isn't there also a pretty significant decrease in Android OS memory usage? More memory for cached apps is always good. It may or may not indicate a slight performance boost as well. Lighter memory footprint may mean lighter CPU usage as well. *shrug*
Also, I believe 4.3 also improves graphics and GPU performance quite a bit using some techniques that I can't remember off-hand.
Hard to say how much these are kernel related or dependant though.

Likely true. I only ever ran it for 5-10 minutes at a time. So none of the new memory handling was apparent to me.
I may play with it more but I've got a lot of other stuff I want to get done.

Check the other s4 forums dopey. And take a chill pill while you're there. No need for needless childlike hostilities. I'm just trying to open up a discussion about something I'm sure I'm not the only one wondering about.
Thanks for the input dubbsy, I was assuming it was something like that. I was wondering if there was working network on it. I just wanted to get it running to convince my friend with his nexus 4 to root hahaha.
I currently run your ge build, but would love a working 4.3 even just for the SS hahaha. But performance wise I'm sure currently something with all the tw firmware would probably perform better.

For benchmarks the TW framework should bench higher every time. But I haven't ran benchs on 4.3. I don't know why it would be any different than the rest of the pure aosp builds. I would think any gains with 4.3 would have to be compared to a similar build of 4.2.2 and not TW-based. The biggest differences I've seen from AOSP to TW based roms were in the cpu category and by huge differences. Presumably due to samsung drivers.
I did not get network working yet, didn't really try. Probably won't because I'm too busy with other things. Random FCs also due to not having a kernel specific for the device. If I took the time to actually build my own kernel for it I could get it working at least as well as my ge build. But when I say that, any person with a working knowledge of android and using a kitchen could do the same.
Thanks for the input, that's pretty close to what I was guessing. Did you notice any increase in touch response? I read there is on the nexus 4 but no other devices.

I shouldn't have even posted this because my "whythehellnot" thought process got the best of me. So I have the 4.3 ramdisk, I have the CM 4.2.2 boot.img from the nightly, and I have my kitchen all set to build a vzw 4.3 kernel. Now I just need to do it.

You are absolutely right. stock untweaked.
For pure aosp with no TW framework this is pretty amazing. Highest I've gotten on an aosp 4.2.2 quadrant was 8,8xx

Which is TW. You won't get anywhere near 12k on 4.2.2 aosp. Comparing apples and puppies doesn't really work out too well..

Yeah I know its tw, dont really care for aosp personally just wanted to chime in with my scores is all.

Seriously? You just had to throw your irrelevant scores into the discussion knowing full well it was irrelevant due to the scoring differences between TW and AOSP which was previously mentioned as being irrelevant in this very thread? Is that really what youre saying?
Anyway...Stock basically cheats anyway when it comes to benchmarks. Open up quadrant or antutu on TW and it will automatically turn on all cores and run at max speed, no matter how little the CPU is being used. ASFAIK this doesn't happen on an aosp ROM.

I was shocked by the 4.3 numbers to be honest. I knew it felt smoother and faster... But thought it was placebo. And I was wrong.
