Vibrant modems - Vibrant Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can someone please give me s link for all the vibrant modems? I searched for it and couldn't find it. I know it is out there somewhere.
Thanks
What are you looking at shortbus......

I am mobile right now, so I can't post the link but look/search for Scrizz's threads (I know they are on the Dev section though). He has one for modems and one for ICS modems. Make sure you read bc they are two different modem bases and won't work on mismatched ROMs.

(not mine)

OK cool, I bookmarked modems page.
Next question, where I live I get a pretty strong signal but only edge. If I flashed different modems could I possibly get a 3g signal?
I called T-Mobile and they said I should get 3g where i live however I don't think they really knew what they were talking about.

You could look around here and see if any of that helps your decision:

I appreciate the time Master&Slave put into that table, but it's still on the anectodal side of data. KB5 and KA7 have always been the best for me, but aside from using that chart it wouldn't hurt to mess around a full day with each of KA5, KA7, KB1, and KB5 and see which one floats your boat the best.

I apologize if this has been asked/answered before but I have searched and searched to no avail. I actually have a two part question:
1) Are there any Vibrant modems specifically for Jelly Bean and if so where are they?
2) If not, would it be OK to assume that the Vibrant modems for Ice Cream Sandwich are the ones we should use and if not then which one(s)?
Thank you to all the developers out there who have kept our phones "alive" after all this time. One day I too would like to learn to build custom ROMs with Android.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using xda app-developers app

Yes, the ICS list is what you want. The general consensus is that KB5 and KA7 seem to work best.
sent from my magic box to yours

Thnx samsgun357.. was wondering if we could flash KB5-ICS_modem.zip which can be taken from http://www.mediafire.com/?9tjt5it4rjjd6 for remICS-JB ROM 4.2.1
KB5 works for me .. I ll go ahead and flash this one
Thnx again

Anyone want to put together a ROM Guide?

Wondering if anyone's willing to do this? Now that there are a dozen or so ROMs, would be kinda cool to have a thread where there's 1 or 2 pics of what differentiates the specific ROM, and 3-4 bullet points each with features\benefits. It's gotten a bit cumbersome to have to go in and view (or not be able to in some ROM threads w\o pics) the details\differentiating factors, and would be super cool to see someone who really does use em all to put together a simple basic thread with a thumbnail and brief description, kinda like the radio\kernel threads did.

It's a good idea..
I only wish there were a dozen different roms to choose from.
Currently there are actually only 5 custom roms for our i777 phones.
(UnNamed, Perception, Serendipity, Cognition and CM7)
You must be thinking of the roms for the i9100 SGS2 international
phones and not the AT&T i777 SGS2 phones.
Remember there are two seperate forums for SGS2, one for the AT&T
i777 phones and the other for the i9100 international phones.
There are a lot more custom roms available for the i9100 phones
than for the AT&T i777 SGS2 phones at this current time.
Perhaps I should have purchased the i9100 phone like you did.

Well a simple and easy to read guide to 5 is better than no guide to nothing, hehe.
I ended up taking the leap and getting one of the i9100's (in nice looking white) while I was in Thailand this week. I was so excited to have a phone without carrier modification! After setting it up and using it for a day, I just can't get over the damn physical key in the middle of the phone. I feel so weird using the button, and after having the HTC Inspire, then Samsung Infuse, and then SGSII ATT version, I just can't go back to a sloppy physical key, so I eBay'd and sold the new white one and went back to my old ATT Galaxy S II in favor of the four keys. I figured you'd get a kick out of this.
Now I just need to figure out what ROM I can put on to allow manual network selection but still give me the amazing battery I'm getting on stock rom w\ codeworx kernel.

I mean we have CM7, MIUI, and about what 4 I think modified moto roms we have themes.
There is alot of roms in other phone forums and most of those are just themed roms
You have to flash a kernel and play some tegra games
I'm running MIUI now

thanks ill check it out.
Some people like stock with just a kernel flash. Some like it simple and bloat free like skinny. Everything you listed works on all of them except maybe miui for the moment. The most stable and complete is skinnyrev2-test3, because its based on 198-7/254-5. Cm7 and miui are awesome and a must try(im partial to cm because i helped in the beginning and was there when the very first version hit the g1, but i like webtop). Magnifier is great too. Its 154 based but its compiled from source i think. Correct me if im wrong shabby. If moto actually updated their source i would build from source too. Jokerstock-test1 was source built.
My advice, titanium backup and flash them all. Few days on each, with updates you should feed your flashing needs. Plus webtop is soon to be flashable.
Unlike other phones we got pretty much everything you would want fully working. Enhanced stock roms with better battery/performance. Cm7, miui, and roms in many languages. You can find my kernels in 6 different countries. Each with local roms. All blur based roms can be flashed in bootstrap with little edits, giving you 4g. Pretty soon im going to help cybik and miui guys get a bootstrap method up with a dual boot option.
Lets the flashing commence

no is not from source. he just was under the impression that newer firmwares wouldnt boot with custom kernels so he went with 154 hes working on updating everything to 198_7 as i continue to yell at him about it
stupid holidays and people claiming they cnat do any work...
Oh, i just assumed 154 would be source built. You must bug him harder to update to 198-7 then.

ROMs poll

I've been on unnamed for a while and cognition before that. I came from Cognition on the Captivate, so it's obvious I prefer a mostly stock ROM. Both of these ROMs are no longer supported though, so gathering opinions on where to go. If anyone suggests something please say why. Thanks
ShoStock is still getting updates.
My favorite is villainrom 3.0 hellraised with the latest version of the siyah kernel
CyanogenMod is pretty nice, its my first non-stock rom. The only thing I miss is the stock Samsung alarm clock. Its worth a try for a day or two at least.

These threads are clearly made just to annoy you Miami. They don't really want anyone else opinion.

These kinds of thread are really a gray area for us.
On one hand, there is nothing wrong wanting to get user's opinions. For somebody who is unsure, getting experience from others about what is good and what is bad can be really useful.
On the other hand, you can't just ask "What is the best". For one, since there are different versions of android builds, no one can just say what the "best" is. For some people, the best can be the most bleeding edge build even with broken functionality. For others, they may value stability the most; and for even more, they may want a build with tons of extra features.
So, with that said - OP: i welcome you to rephrase your question, preferably about some specific ROMs that you might have in mind, as well as what your needs are. Otherwise, i will close this down per board rules..
If you know how to flash roms and you are comfortable with it then just try them. Thats the best advice any of us can really give you. Im on sensation rom and that is still alive and a great rom, but its really up to you. ShoStock is your best bet to stay stock though.
Every quit your *****in'
ANYWAY
I've stuck with ICScrewD and Siyah for the past several months keeping up with the updates and I've been pretty pleased with my battery life and performance. I also switch to Entropy's DD occasionally. It's all stable
Try some various ones out man. Like poster above said if you feel comfortable flashing then it can become trial and error. You'll eventually find the one that suits you

But we already have a thread with everyone posting what version of Android and what rom they are using. Why do we need another?
SHOstock, is pretty fast and stable, and it still getting updates,, CM7 is awesome but they never fix the issue with the video codecs for our phone so if you have a lot of videos taken with your stock OS you will have to delete those from you SD card.

In the ops defense, the other one appears to be more based on Android version,, however you are correct that people go on to discuss the actual ROM they're running.
As for the people quoting Miami, well maybe they're just growing tired of his condescending posts

Sammy rebuilds or cm7/miu hrmmm cm7/miui k thx =]
UnNamed 1.3.2 for me works great. Went to 2.2.1, but the battery life wasn't as good, i did dig the ICS touches. Does anyone know if flashing the KH7 modem on UnNamed 2.2.1 will fix the wifi drain?

I apologize if I wasn't clear when I said "I prefer a stock experience". I use BT extensively in my car, so I was looking for a MOSTLY stock ROM with finctionality being a priority, would prefer to keep TW as well. Basically, something along the lines of COGNITION or UNNAMED, but, a ROM that keeps getting updates. I wasn't trying to cause problems, but, I really don't feel like going through the 5000 ROMS for this phone; I didn't think asking other users opinions was that bad. I did post in the GENERAL section. I hope that clears it up, if not, delete if you must.

[Q] Really, whats the difference?

Ok, so im looking at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 specifically in the Frankenstein firmwares section because, seriously, if your going to put bits and peices together they gotta be the good bits n peices right?
Im mostly confused tho, whats the difference between LP2, LP3, LPS, LP4, LP7, LPD, etc.?
I know many of them were released in different regions, branding is going to be slightly different, apps i dont care about i usually strip out the crappy apps anyways.
I flash my modem because its what works best for me. Kernel i use Siyah. What differences, if any, will i see with the different roms? Or are they all pretty much the same?
If they are all pretty much the same then that begs the question why all the different versions? Which is widely accepted as "the best" or "One of the best" ?
EDIT
That last sentance was more directed as a "stay away from JPKI1 its rather buggy, ____ Is pretty much the same but without the bugs". On my prime its the same firmware pretty much worldwide, just translation is different for each region. Its easy to tell which version is better, usually the higher number is newer and has the previous versions bugs worked out. Samsung had to go weird and make regional updates so every region has a different version. THAT is where my confusion is.

Lol, in reguards to that i HAVE been trying out as many roms as i can and frankly im starting to forget which ones i tried and which ones i didnt try. I have found that some are just bad and people say to avoid them because most people have problems, thats more what i was hoping for with that statment.
I dont expect to have people do the work for me or try all the roms for me, and i know whats good for one person may not be good for another, im just... Overwhelmed by the abundance of options that are all apparently the same. Thats all.
To reiterate: THIS IS NOT A WHICH IS BEST thread, its a whats the difference thread, and im hoping to be pointed in the direction of which i might stay away from due to poor performance and which generally are the more accepted. But if even such generalities are pushing the rules too much we can omit that bit.

Just searching the forums, dude. I had to do all my own legwork learning how to decompile .apk files, how to then tweak/edit them, then recompile them... Along with how to use smali/baksmali. There are a bunch of tutorials out there in the Theme/App section, as well as the development sections.
Just start somewhat small; do some searches for "APK Edit" or "APK Manager". That should give you something to start with. Once you have a grasp of that, you'll find other stuff just ends up in your lap as a result.
Edit to add: as a result of what I've picked up, I've found I prefer Samsung stock firmwares that I tweak to my own liking over other ROMs.
Well back to the root question: Main difference between the many, many different versions of stock ICS. What kind of stuff do they change? Whats so different between WXLP7 and LPDFG, for instance?

Unfortunately, Samsung doesn't publish changelogs. So the only way to know is to try them both out yourself...
Or I guess you could wait until someone who already has tried them both out and noted all the changes reads this post and responds.

I think he was asking about the overall firmwares, and not specifically the modem.
I was kinda hoping for the latter since my unexperienced eye didnt notice anything doing the former.
Didnt know sammy didnt provide changelogs, that kind of sucks. Oh well, was worth a shot i guess.
Guess this thread wont go anywhere since theres no tangeable proof one way or the other of any differences. Thanks for the patience with me anyways XD

i think there was a tool someone made on rootzwiki called RomKonverter which basically let you throw a fassy zip in there and it would add the stuff to make it work on the mez and showcase variants
