The 12th of June hath come!....And gone! - Motorola Droid RAZR

So, its finally here. I'm in India, and its 11PM IST for me. Another hour and history shall be created
Lets hope we get some Dev love once the ICS kernel is out! Can't wait to get CM9/AOKP working on this baby!

It's the 12th of June - you don't say. (well not quite for me yet)
What happens today?

Soon, soon, the 12th of June.
The ICS fallacy and plot.
I know of no reason why the ICS delay
Should ever be forgot.

Hehe....this has to be the MOST dramatic wait ever!

Hate to burst your bubble but, these times are not relative to where you live if it does drop "today" (really tomorrow) it will be atleast another 10 and a half hours as the release times are basically MIDNIGHT EST which is -5:00 UTC, plus the rumor was for the US verison based xt912's not the global launch.

yeah, I know. But at least if the Droid gets it, we'll know we're gonna get it soon. Besides, I'm sure somebody could cook up a custom ROM n then use the GSM patch
Just out of curiosity, what does OP stand for?

On another note, I just spoke to the user on here who created an account to prove ICS was out. He said it's for sure releasing on the 12th, so we can all sleep well tonight.

As more people believing in this, as less the chances to happen.

There's been absolutely no word from Verizon or Moto regarding an OTA tomorrow. As bad as I want it, I'm not getting my hopes up... (still gonna wear a divot in my screen where the "system updates" button sits, though...)

12th is the day that precedes the 13th.
Go figure...

I for one will not be surprised if the 12th comes and goes with no updates to my Razr.

It's the 11th for most in US. And I highly highly highly doubt the Droid RAZR will get a soak before GSM, it's just not how stuff works

It never was intented to be release for India, only Verizon users.

I'm setting my phone's date to the 13th.
I'm going to have ICS yesterday.

Moto/Verizon haven't even announced a soak test for the ICS release yet (to my knowledge, and I was on the last one). As much as I'd love to be proven wrong, I don't see any OTA release in the next week, much less the next day.

Seriously, its already been confirmed. Search.
I don't think it's been confirmed yet... but it looks like it will be announced on May 24th. So it will probably be available 2 weeks after that.

Possible reason for latest OTA ???

Came across this article. I know we all are waiting for ICS and some were wondering why we had an OTA that was not ICS ?
Here is the link..

I know a lot of heat was put on them by having all that logging info put in to the phones maybe this could also be another reason? Just something I came across and thought maybe others would be interested.

I predict you will be extremely wrong. They said early part of year. July is in middle of year.
We will have it by april here. write that down.
Who cares if it wasn't ICS... ICS isn't the only thing in the world nor the solution to everything on our phones.... People should stop expecting it, we will get it when we get it.
Now with that said, Props to HTC for getting a fix out once notified, because I care for my security on the device and if they are working hard to ensure it then they got my sympathy this time.
Guys
I spoke to HTC customer services here in the UK over the phone...
They said potentially it would for the (UK at least) 2nd or 3rd week of March.
I can see it being over that though.... They usually have problems with launches which hold it off.

Well, the UK GSM version came out after our Sprint CDMA version in the states. If you get it before us, that'd be pretty shallow on HTC's part (and maybe even Sprint if they delay it for their crap).

Which is when I think we will see many HTC devices get the OTA for it. March is the month most likely imho. MWC will be over and they will have shown off their new devices and how they incorporated Sense 4.0 and ICS by then, also their first ICS phone will have been released too in the White Sensation, so I'd bet the flood gates will open up in just over a months time....
I dont see anyone getting it till after their event just before MWC starts, unless they do in fact roll out ICS to us in Sense 3.6 variety and not 4.0. Any hope for us getting Sense 4.0 would mean itd come after their event.

ICS update delayed for Europe

Hello everyone,
I subscribed to Motorola Owners updates post and here is what all subscribers received :
https://forums.motorola.com/posts/9e912ca283
(see last post)
Kind of disappointing but I prefer that they make a better update than just roll an unstable update just to be in time.
What do you think?

Goodbye Moto.
Time to buy a Galaxy Nexus!
What I think? It is bs they had q1 and q2 to make a good update, they never gave any information accept that it would be released in q2, and now this?
Sent from my XT910 using Tapatalk 2
Clearley most of the "motoxperts" does not have any clue about what they are talking about. I emailed Motorola a couple days ago and they said it was still planned to be released Q2 and AFAIk the soak testers have got their emails.

And Europe is still Q2
Don't belive those son of *****es in the motoxpert. When Motorola announce officialy that the update is delayed then we will start the war!
I have emailed them again
On Polish Motorola Facebook page they also announced that ICS will be delayed for Europe:
"We've got official information for all waiting for software upgrade for RAZR and RAZR MAXX. The update will be delayed and we are not able to provide it to the end of the June as we planned. We are sorry. We are working on software changes which must be made to provide our users the best ICS new functions experience. We will keep you posted when we'll get confirmed ICS rollout date."

Link to the leak mate?
So let alone they tend to the stupid Bloatware Verizon version first, they also managed to **** up something that was working all along.
Theres ICS for the HP Touchpad which was ported by fans, but a company such as Motorola can't even release it for their own phone on time. Amateurs. >_>
So much for moto being a top brand. This is the same story that has been plaguing their devices for a number of years now. Ill stick with my razr for now on official miui but i'll get rid later in the year.
Disappointed.

Motorola = most lousy company ever! This is no impulsive statement because I've said all the time "if they can't deliver it in Q2, they lose all my respect and I'll never buy a motorola again" Well, now is the time, never again a moto!
One of the first rules in business I've learned, never disappoint your customer and think very very carefully before publishing a deadline / release date. Inform yourself very good. Especially when you have the worst reputation.
I thought, they can't be that stupid and the razr and its ics update are so much anticipated they can't afford it to their selves to ruin it again... But... they did!!
Congratulations to everyone at motorola involved in marketing, service&support and product updates.
I'm not surprised..
But I will eat them alive.

Yup, Motorola Europe stated on their facebook:
For those asking for information about the ICS upgrade for RAZR and RAZR MAXX, we have had a delay which means we’re unable to roll out in Q2 as planned. We’re working through the changes that need to be made to the software to ensure you get the best experience from all the new features ICS will bring. We will update you when we have further details on a new roll out.

Although I am a bit disapointed, I'm not going leave motorola just over this. I've had the same stuff when I had a samsung (i7500) and a HTC (Desire HD), so all companies do it. Well, or I should get a Nexus next time...

I still have hope for kholk's kexec. If he manage to fix it I really dont care about moto updates anymore
All the brands have similar problems... I've owned HTC, Sony, Motorola and some more and I had update delays with all of them... except for an Archos tablet I had, that was updated to any android version really quick... but then it was plagued of bugs and they had to release a bugfix patch every week.. XDD I don't know what I prefer...
Cheers
I know what I prefer... Communication from Motorola, because I don't believe for a second this is something they came up with 3 days before the deadline. They knew it would not be released in Q2 but they lacked to communicate that, but more important they kept saying that it would be released in Q2 till today... again 3 days before deadline.
I wonder if we could take legal actions against that..
Mind it has nothing to do with a 'free' release of any update it has to do with the expectations buyers had of the phone with the promise of ICS in Q1 at first and Q2 later. I think allot of buyers would not have bought the phone if they knew what they know now, then again I would.
I am not too worried. Still a great phone. I have had much bigger issues with htc one x wifi problems.. a hardware fault. Oh and the nokia e6, many software issues. This phone still does a great job!

Cut the crap. What are our chances of getting Jelly Bean?

So, I'm sure it's not only me wondering this... Are we getting this thing ever?
most likely, lots of "feature updates" and motorola is 'part of' google now. gotta think they will support their flagship phone of 2012
Of course, even if we are going to get it we won't get it for at least another year, maybe year and a half.
I hope that with the release of the pdk the thing will go better, but i don't belive that we will get it soon

No, razr is the best phone I could have compare to my other Android devices, and I very happy with my razr.
The big disappointed I got, came from Motorola's developers and service.
And, no... Ios is bad, has no many options, the system designed for little kids/not intelligent people/lazy hoes/people who can't handle complicated os and etc.
I would never buy such low level device like iphone or ipad..
Iphone is like a console, like xbox or ps3.
And android is like pc.

I'm assuming RAZR will get it, it is still one of the most up to date phones motorola have on offer.
Based on the ICS release I'd guess we get it rolling out about the same time the Nexus devices get Kola Kubes.
Hopefully at the same time motorola initially promise to keep the bootloader locked then decide to change their mind, completely ignore the promise and do the opposite.
Honestly, I think by the time we get it we'll all be ready to upgrade to a new phone if we haven't already. I'm gonna say Q2 2013...

I don't really have much faith in Motorola updating our devices anytime soon. They're failing to meet their own release schedules for ICS so I don't see how they will have JB out anytime soon.
I was looking for a decent tablet and hoping to get a Prime but the Nexus 7 hits the price point perfectly so I ordered a 16gb one. Hopefully there isn't an issue with Google's release/shipping date so I can enjoy JB faster.
Considering how long it took them to push ICS I seriously doubt we will ever get and official Jelly Bean OTA update. Knowing Verizon they are probably going to EOL the RAZR/MAXX not long after the RAZR HD gets released. Constantly releasing new phones brings them more money... not supporting phones they have out already. The devs on the other hand will probably have one out soon.

Motorola promised ICS 6 weeks after its official release by Google.

Releasing it the at the end of June is pretty far from their promise. And when other manufactures release ICS for their phones isn't relevant. This is about Motorola. So yes I have little faith in Motorola. If they had stated that ICS would be released for the RAZR in mid-2012 from the beginning I wouldn't complain. But that isn't what they promised.

They never promised they'd release it within 6 weeks, they promised that they'd release a list of devices that would get ICS. The Q2 release date was the only promise they ever made on it, and they've held to that for Verizon. On GSM, I'm not surprised they've pushed it back, because apparently there are some issues in this OTA and I'm sure they want to fix them up a bit, and then they'll push that update out as the first release for GSM users and a minor update for Verizon users. It probably won't that GSM users are waiting until the end of Q3 for ICS, it will probably be pretty soon.

If you READ what that infamous tweet said, they promised to release DEVICES for ICS. This means devices that meet the hardware requirements for ICS. They in no WAY promised ICS in 6 weeks and there is no way you can twist those tweets to mean that.
Waiting for ICS was horrible. I literally checked for updates every day before I threw in my towel and flashed the LATAM ICS ROM (and loving it).
If the RAZR isn't going to get the support it deserves, would you guys contemplate say, selling your device and getting an HTC One X/Galaxy SIII?
I mean, our devices are still new and can fetch a hefty sum...

This device has awesome specs and is the bastard brother of the Nexus 4. Its not going anywhere soon. I wouldnt count on waiting for LG. You are much better off waiting for the Devs and going with a ROM.
I've read, from multiple sources, that the Optimus G will be getting JB shortly. Most likely Q1 next year, with the Korean version getting it in December. It's coming, oh yes...it's coming.
Here is an article in Yahoo news that states that LG has the OG with a December timeline. Now, taking into consideration that sometimes "stuff" happens, lets be realistic in saying January 2013. If it happens in December though... that would be my Christmas gift.
Disclaimer: I have only had my OG for a couple days and have not read extensively. If there is anything else published after this article refuting the timeline, my apologies.

Don't buy a device based on upgrade promise from manufactures or carriers. But it based on developer support. I have Note 2 and will be turning for optimus g since this one is now unlocked and we can never worry about waiting for updates from useless carriers.
