Hey whats up guy?
all this Temp-Root and ADB, and bat.file's, and what not is relatively new to me...seeing that ive never needed to use it previously, im kinda paying the ultimate price for it now LOL...So, yesterday i used "Wisefire's" Temp-Root method and it worked perfectly...but now im looking to use the OC bat.file that was included in the zip.....ive tried other method of Temp-Root and changed my uder variables and what not and my PC became a huge mess.....but with alot of help from the guys in that thread we got things worked out and i was able to run the bat.file just fine....now i seem to be getting the same error in the CMD and im not sure where to go from there to resolve the issue.....i keep getting a "NO SCRIPT OR DIRECTORY" error......ill attach a SS of the CMD and what it keeps giving me....if anyone can help me resolve this or maybe even stir my to a differ method of using SETCPU to OC my device, i'd be grateful for that.....thanks guys......i really appreciate it
I was having that exact same problem..i couldnt fig it out for nothing..i still dont know how i got it to work...i just tried extracting the overclock bat in the unzipped easy frevo file and when it asked to replace i said no and it send me back to the easy frevo file folder and i did process and it work..same thing worked with my wifes..so wierd..i dont know if ur using windows but u could try it..lol
EDIT ....I have heard problems with OC in yesterdays easy frevo..there is and updated one with frevo, OC, and bloat from today that one is one that worked for me

Ok lemmi take a shop at this.
1. Make sure you have the right .KO file! There is one for non-ota and phones that have takes the ota (over the air update)
This is the command I used and got it to work.
adb push 8x60_oc.ko /data/local/tmp/
adb shell insmod /data/local/tmp/8x60_oc.ko scpll_l_val=33 vdd_uv=1375000
Make sure to change the .ko name to the one you have. You can simply edit the .bat and use these lines.
Good luck hope it helps!

It's very device and "needs" specific. Everyone is different. If you're looking for the best battery life go as low as you can tolerate. If you're looking for speed crank it as high as you can without the phone locking up or getting sluggish, and play around with conservative/on demand governors. Avoid performance governor.

Performance governor just clocks your cpu @ the max wether needed or not and yeah the phones are all different. Well made, but still made by people and machines. So there's still some variance. I'm a phone geek by hobby but manufacturing specialist by trade lol. Anyways, glad to help.

No prob man. Glad you got it worked out. Also if you plan on experimenting with the overclock and underclock make a mental note to be by a pc/laptop. I say this because if you go to high your phone could freeze and lock up requiring a battery pull this applys with the underclock as well. If it does freeze up and you have to do a battery pull it will mean reboot and you will loose root and have to do your choice of rerooting and reoverclocking. Also I'd recommend reading the overckock thread to look at some members experience with overckocking and underclocking to get a general idea of were to start. Well hope this helps.

I had an earlier bat file that worked for rooting but the overclock wouldn't.
I took the working bat file and edited it. I then copied the first line (where it had cd) to the other bat file.
Worked great.

The past two days my phone has been randomly rebooting. It has happened twice in two days. I have no idea how to pull any information from my phone to possibly see what is happening. I am moderatly tech savvy so with good directions I can do just about anything. If anyone is willing to help that would be great.
Phone: At&t GSII (obviously)
Rom: Cognition beta-4
Kernel: Entropy's doom v2
I am using set CPU with profiles. Not over clocking or undervolting, I just use it to underclock when phone gets to hot or battery gets to low.
Anything else you need to know or want me to do please let me know. Thanks.

Complete reboot back to Samsung screen? Or back to bootanimation?
If all the way back to the Samsung screen, there isn't much you an do right now other than wait - I'll be putting an update out tonight, and one of the main features is that I finally got ramconsole working. Ramconsole is how /proc/last_kmsg (the last things a kernel printed before a reboot or crash) is implemented. Once I release my next kernel, if you flash it and another reboot back to the Samsung screen happens, the following will give valuable debug information if executed from Android Terminal Emulator or a similar app:
Code:
cat /proc/last_kmsg > /sdcard/last_kmsg.txt
Then zip up last_kmsg.txt and post it - but as I said, you'll need to wait for the next kernel release before you can do this.
I haven't seen it reboot but it asks what launcher to use (because I didn't set a default) and the battery useage is reset. It will say it has been unplugged for 20 min while it has been for a few hours. Those factors make me think it does a full reboot.
Don't know if that helps. If there is anything else let me know aside from that I will flash the new kernel when its out. Thanks for all the great work

Very simple fix:
Uninstall SetCPU and reboot the phone and magically it will
no longer randomly reboot.
(you can always re-install it if you don't mind random reboots )
Good Luck!

How long do you actually think that it takes to simply uninstall
and reboot your phone to see for yourself?
Even if you don't over-clock whatever you do with it can cause
the rebooting problem you are describing.
I certainly am not going to test it for you since I never over-clock
or under-clock anything including my phone and computer.
If the phone was meant to run a lot faster or slower than the
the manufacturers would be advertising the phones with faster
specifications so they can sell more of them.
It's only makes good advertising sense.
Think of it this way, lets say you buy a new car and decided to put
jet fuel into the gas tank to make it have more horsepower so it can
run lot faster than it was designed for, do you think doing this will
make the car more or less reliable in the short or long term?

You claim SetCPU is the problem, where is your evidence?
I test my kernels using SetCPU, I have never had a problem.
I keep hearing anecdotes about SetCPU causing problems for people, but there is no way it can possibly cause stability issues. sysfs is sysfs, and that's that.
The only place where SetCPU might cause a problem is with screen-off profiles less than 800 MHz on kernels that don't have the SoD patch.
To the OP - Sorry I didn't release tonight, I got caught up in trying to help someone track down a power management issue with wifi. I'll do it when I wake up.
I am not stupid and the reason I was questioning was because I have OC/UC/UV before and I know what the stability issues are like with them. It is not something that happens frequently so it is hard to test. I have been going now for over 24 hours and no reboot. No changes to set CPU either. Primarily though I wanted a concise way to pull info so I can help people like entropy.
(Off topic a little) Manufactures might UC hardware for a few reasons. Battery capacity and heat are usually two of the big ones. If you stuck your phone in the freezer you could probably OC this phone to 2ghz and run stable. I OC to 1600 for fun and its completely stable. I clock it down if I'm out and it is hot or I am in the sun.
To entropy: its cool I check the forums every hour if not more frequently LOL. I think it has become an addiction. Once the kernel is out let me know what I can do to help.

Hey,
I've been using Galnet MIUI for quite some time and have had no issues except for late. Whenever the USB cable is plugged in and i choose mount USB (did it with only internal sd-card, and also with internal/external sd-cards) the phone decides to hang.
Now i'm unsure if its a full hang as holding the power button down a bit makes the phone vibrate (and i assume bring up the power menu had it not "frozen") aswell as the screen dimming after a while.
I've tried a different kernel to no avail as well as formatting both sd-cards then fixing permissions.
Has anyone else had this sort of screen-unresponsiveness?
Cheers
I've been using Galnet Miui for a while & haven't had that problem. You might wanna ask that question over @ the Galnet forums given GM is pretty much a dirty word on XDA (don't ask )

i agree
Did you change the lower cpu freq value?
Which governor do you use? Try to use ondemand or interactive for instance.
Sometimes low cpu freqs can mess up the system behavior ending up hanging.
Good luck!
hello,
once I had this problem too and solved it by reflashing the rom
(with all "cleans" like wipe cache, dalvik..)
good luck to you !
ahah MistahBungle i will not ask then i did post a thread on their forums but didnt get much of a reply so figured i'd ask here.
@asfpf i havent touched any of that, im using stock settings lols
@mijol cheers, ill give it a go. dunno if it fixed anything last time however
Mijol's suggestion to reflash the rom without a wipe might just work/is a good suggestion. One GM build I flashed I couldn't mount the external SD card over USB, a reflash/no wipe fixed the problem.
I wanted to see if I can post something without getting ridiculed. Seriously doubt that now cause I accidentally posted this in the general Q&A first and did not know how to move it or delete it so i am posing again here. Hopefully a moderator can just take care of that stray posting I made in the general area.
I am on my second ATT SGS2. First one had a GPS issue. Tried everything and finally convinced ATT warranty services that the problem was hardware. They said they would advance replace the handset. So I got it back to stock in every way except the flash counter, this was in December so long before I was aware of mobile odin. Flash counter was at about 12 when I was done trying different ROMs,mostly just try to get the GPS to work. It was in perfect shape, bone stock except for the counter. I cannot imagine I will have an issue, but has anyone ever heard of someone getting charged on a return to stock phone that had a flash counter above stock? Ill update once I know for sure the outcome.
My real question, does everyones SGH-I777 crash on occasion? If so how often? I so happy with the current code that is running on the phone with the exception that it sometimes sleeps and wont wake up, and sometimes it just plain crashes hard, locks up and has to be hard rebooted. Usually this happens about twice a day one or the other. I wiped before installing current kernel. The only reason I am not stock is cause I wanted the CKK6, 2.3.6 update to work and to keep root privaledges, but also needed my wifi cause ATT is throttling me down to dial up speeds when I reach 2GB. So wrong!!! Anyway thats another thread.
I loaded shostock with siyah kernel 2.6.35.14. after wiping everything including both caches. The GPS is solid now, phone is fast, battery is egh, I keep a charger with me... but it crashes hard from one to three times a day. Locks up playing tunes, or wont wake up with out being plugged in or hard booted. Do I have another defective handset or should I just go back to 2.3.4 and UKH7 or should I just deal with it and consider the crashes, "excellent opportunities to reboot."?
Thanks for the all the hours of fun, u know who you are.
I honestly don't remember my phone crashing at all. If it's crashing, it aint stable. Did it crash when it was stock?
yeah I mean duh right? The new handset was updated, rooted, downreved and flashed with the custom rom before it was put under any load, so I do not know if it would have crashed before. I have wiped, re downloaded, checked with hashtab and re flashed my current kernel, so it seems like it has to be hardware, again... ugh. Especially since no one else is having issues with shostock and siyah. I wonder how hard it is going to be to get warranty services to replace the second phone in 3weeks!? Lol.
Try going back to stock and run it for a couple hours to see if it still crashes. If it still crashes then more than likely hardware issues.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using xda premium
If it's crashing on stock without SetCPU to set a screen-off profile, you have a hardware problem.
I haven't had a crash, freeze, or spontaneous reboot in ages - despite running kernels that a few others have reported stability problems with (and I have effectively halted my kernel until I can get to the bottom of those reports...)
Too often is when it happens regularly, period.
I'm running CyanogenMod 9 and have almost no crashes, despite it being experimental.

I reverted to stock last night shortly after posting this. Ran fine until re loaded SHOstock v1.9.2-UCKK6. It is not "crashing" but it will go to sleep and not want to wake up again. I can sometimes plug in the charger and that will wake it up but other times I have to hard reboot. So no more crashing, but will not wake from sleep about 10% of the time. Not a huge deal, but its a bit weird because I know that the code I am running is ok, and it seems the hw is ok, so... not sure why this is happening. Anyway thanks all for your suggestions etc.

This sounds like SoD (sleep of death) to me. I would recommend reading through Entropy's kernel thread (yes, it is a LOT of reading) but it might give you some insight into possible causes and/or solutions, and you'll get a great feel for where development on this device has come from, from the beginning...
I had the same problem using the latest siyah kernel, but never with entropy's. I would suggest flashing a new kernel.

1. To answer the OP question, I have experienced ONCE that was when I tried to run the Andy's TI-83 emulator on my virgin stock ROM. The result is either my fault or the application isn't compatible with the running OS.
2. With bone stock, it shouldn't crash at all. If it does, RMA.
3. If the owner(s) have "some fun" around it such rip it off, hack it up, install different kernels, different ROMs, ...... then please DO NOT complain the device is suck.
I've seen a lot of knuckleheads who tried to mod their devices, screw them up then claim "they're suck".

Thanks this sounds like a plan. I have to do something things have gotten worse. About 3 out of ten times I go to put the phone to sleep now, instead of blinking out the phone takes a screen shot. My fingers are no where near any of the other buttons and it takes a screen shot over and over when I press the power button. I have to move around from screen to screen, hit the home button and then hit the power button to put it to sleep. Weird stuff, could be worse though. Did I say that I thought the phone sucks? I thought I read in one of the replies up there something like that. Aside from the GPS issue that was hardware related, and problems I have brought on myself because stock wasnt good enough, this is hands down the most awesome piece of electronics I have ever owned. iPhone smyphone. I just need to find the perfect turbo charged, rooted but as stock as possible configuration that is stable and I will be set. I really like where I am, hopefully the kernel you suggested does not change much but fixes the problems. Thanks again all.
Grab one of Entropy's DD Kernels and flash it with CWM. I'd suggest getting one from Jan or earlier. His latest ones are trying to track down a issue.

Ok the noob is going to shine through here... but you say to flash with CWM. With my current config, when I enter recovery mode I am taken to the siyah kernel recovery console. Are we talking the same difference here, and when I go to flash as you mentioned can I do so with Siyah recovery or shall I flash with something that will give me back cwm first and then flash the config that you mentioned in your reply?

Hello guys. I have installed cyanogenmod9 with Siyah kernel on my galaxy s2 and I already got one problem. The battery drains very fast.. I got no 3g/wifi/gps/bluetooth activated, no live wallpapers, just 3 homescreens with minimum of widgets, no applications running in background and I set the max freq for the cpu to be 1000MHZ.. And it still drains very fast..
These are the exactly files i got on my phone:
Siyah-v3.0rc1-CWM

Could you please help me fix this?
Cheers!
Install BetterBatteryStats, let the phone run for 8-10 hours (use it normally or let it run overnight; whenever you're seeing the drain basically). Then have a look at the BetterBatteryStats thread on here.
This will enable you to pin down any wakelocks which are chewing thru your CPU (If it is indeed wakelocks causing the drain). If necessary, you might be able to post some screenshots/info to that thread & maybe the guys who post there regularly can give you some help with it.
Edit to add - For starters, personally speaking, I'd update to the latest CM9 nightly while you're at it (09/04). They're always making little improvements/changes.
thank you very much! i have installed that program, now I will do how you said and then I will post some screenshots in the thread. Thanks!
No probs If you find you do have wakelocks/post to the BBS thread & you don't get a response after a day or so, post the details here & I'm sure people will be able to help.

I would strongly suggest using Siyah v3.0.1Beta1
http://www.gokhanmoral.com/gm/
and dont usee that build of CM9 as that is the Resurrection edition. Download the latest CM9 from here:
http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=galaxys2
0904 is the latest.
make sure your wipe cache and dalvik cache.
put on cm9 first, then Siyah, then wipe, reboot.

u cant compare it immediately...
please go ahead with a calibration of the batt and after recharging once/twice compare the battery usage with ur current bad usage
make sure u cancel the useless options that suck up the battery, there's a thread regarding this as well, it helps trust me...
Which is exactly why I gave you a simple (possible) solution in the first instance.
Which you were obviously too impatient to try given it involved installing an app, letting it run for half a day or so then reading a thread on here/posting some info to that thread to get some answers.
Installing a new rom was overkill. If you weren't prepared to go down the BBS path with your existing setup, you only needed to flash the latest CM9 nightly, do a clear cache/Dalvik & again let it go for a day or so to see if that fixed things. And then you could have done the BBS thing with the latest CM9 nightly installed if necessary.
believe me i didnt want to install a second rom.. i just wanted to replace the old one..
i will do the thing with batterystats and then i will revive this thread and tell you the "news".
Thanks for everything.
no wakelock overnight. the battery dropped just 1 percent.. i am using it for 20 mins. 3 sms, 3 mins of talking and 3 mins of wireless. in 20 mins the battery dropped from 99 to 95 now.
OK looks normal/ similar to my usage in that amount of time... keep on testing, good luck

I installed the cm7 stable version.. The phone still doesnt flash when i receive a message(sms). Isnt there a fix for this? Is so annoying!

Are you talking about some kind of notification when you receive a message? This phone doesn't have a notification LED. So you need either BLN + a kernel that supports it, or install the NoLED app. Either one will affect your battery performance though.
When you receive a message, on every phone, the screen wakes up. Mine doesnt, do you understand what i am saying?
Thanks for the reply!

And I was saying that this phone does not do this by default, out of the box, unless you do one of the two things I mentioned above.
Do YOU understand what I'M saying?
