A few times I noticed all the signal bars gone and just the no signal circle with bar showing and when I try to make a call it shows no network, but the data indicator arrows next to it are still there and can access network through data at full speed so haven't actually lost the signal. Has anyone else seen this happen because I tried sim in other phone and works fine so definetly not a network problem and only intermittently happens on S3.

I'd like to share the following info with all those who have identical problem with me.
Symptoms:
Phone randomly looses network carries signal, shows few or full bar reception signal strength but can`t receive or place a call until restart or manual/automatic network selection is initiated.
Solution:
Change / Adjust the network connection speed according to signal coverage, settings -> mobile network -> highest network connection speed. Usually lower the speed.
In my case it defaulted to 3G and i tried setting it to 2G, which solved the symptoms described before.
try change SIM card... if that not help maybe problem is in SIM card holder

probably i was not clear enough. I had (past tense) that problem, now i don't. btw i did tryed changing sim cards, hard reset, even sim card from one other network operator (who also had weak 3G signal), i was googling and googling and googling .... and somewhere i did find that sugestion for simmilar problem.
I had a similar problem, but found that the SIM was just a tiny bit loose. Once I popped it out, reseated it and re-inserted it, I didn't have that problem agaon.

Hey guys, I have a T-Mobile branded Galaxy S5 (SM-G900T) that I'm using on Metro PCS and whenever I connect to wifi I can't receive mms messages. I will get the text and it will ask me to download the image but then I get a never ending progress bar. So then I'll turn off WiFi and I will have bars but the 4G LTE indicator will be gone and the only way to get it back is to reboot the phone. Any ideas as to what this could be? I have tried using both the T-Mobile & Metro PCS APN settings but the issue still happens no mattter which APN the phone is set to. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

No ROM, it's stock.
wifi calling enabled and set to only make calls on wifi?
This will happen when you have wifi calling enabled. That is why you see the cell signal bars go gray or grayed out. Turn off wifi calling and you will see you signal bars come back, as long as you have cell signal (service) at your house.

Having WiFi calling enabled won't affect your data and messaging at all unless there is a connection issue with the router.

It sounds like a connectivity issue on the routers side if the APNs are correct. I would go back to Metro PCS APNs then check your signal strenth and link speed in the phones WiFi settings, then check to make sure WiFi calling does not display an error in the call settings. If all 3 are good then check your client list on router and make sure phones IP address and MAC id is there. If IP and MAC id are good run diag log on router and possibly change/test different wireless channels on your router.
I never have WiFi calling enabled so I don't see that as a cause, and I have tried both the MetroPCS and T-Mobile APN settings and it still happens. I'm still able to receive calls and send text messages but I can't receive MMS messages or access data. The only way to fix the issue is to turn on airplane mode for about 10 seconds and then turn it off and I get the 4GLTE signal indicator back along with full service. Its really weird because when this happens, I still have a signal indicator with 3-4 bars but the only the 4GLTE indicator disappears.

I will get the same issue as stated above. When you have bars present with no data icon, its because your phone is latching on to another network when MetroPCS is not to be found. At my office, T-Mobile service is the pits, yet i get bars present. I usually open the dialer and type *#0011# and it will show what band your phone is picking up, from there you can tell if you are really on MetroPCS or someone elses network.
Is there an APP for android to have to signal bars move and say 3G, 2G, 1X, ect.
To clarify, my phone is rooted and does not have service and never planned to be used for cell service again, and I am tired of seeing the bars with an "X" through them, so my question is... Is there an app or XPOSED framework to have settings to the signal bars to "SIMULATE" them doing different signals and 3G, ect
Bump...
I just got a P9000 today and after a quick setup of the device via wifi I proceeded to inset my sim card from the uk network 3/three.
Now my network shows up when doing a search, and in the SIM settings it shows 3 UK for all options, but only the calls option is greyed out, and I am unable to make any calls with the phone whatsoever.
I don't get the no network message error (except when I am in an area with no coverage i.e. in my house) .
I've tried the sim card in both slot 1 and 2 to no avail.
I get 3 showing up in the notification tray icon which toggles data, plus it shows 3/4g next to the signal strength bar when I'm somewhere that gets a mobile signal.
It even show the correct network in the SIM status within the about phone section of android settings with the correct IMEI number.
Does anyone have any idea on my issues and any potential fixes/test/things I can try in order to get calls working?
Seems like my problem solved itself and I can now make calls.
Don't know what was/is wrong but calls option is still greyed out, though I made 2 test calls this morning (to Landline and mobile) which worked, then later on I made a call of a few minutes which worked as well.
This is a bit of an annoyance. When using a data-only sim, I simply get a no service sign on the status bar along with 4G / H+ / whatever the connection is. The connection doesn't show the carrier, but rather "Emergency calls only."
Of course, the data connection works normally. It's just the way it's shown that annoys me.
Is this true for other people? Any way to show the signal strength even if it's a data-only sim?
Thanks.
