Hey pals im thinking to get a new android phone & im thinking to buy Lg optimus 1 . So howz this phone n i see only 2-3 custom roms available for it . BTW howz its speed of handling games n apps on it thnks
Best value for money at the 220euros price range, for sure!
So how much you wanna spend?
What are your needs?
Internet surfing, gaming, music, battery life demands?, movie watching, gps ?
For my needs is more than ok so far, it has everything i need... so..
1) what's your budget
2) your needs
The P500 was my first Android phone. Before I had the Samsung SGH-D500 so a HUGE jump of ages xD Of course I'm not old school I heavily used a iPodTouch 2G before. (Same prices more or less) For ME its enough and I can't wait for a good 2.3 ROM on that device. But if I NOW would have the choice I maybe would wait. Since LG is releasing the first DualCore Smartphone soon. But I took the Optimus One. And I think I bought the right device from the right company at the right time.
It looks good is not to big it can receive calls, SMS and E-Mails and stuff. Playing isnt really possible yet because of a touchscreen bug. Which hopefully get fixed with Android 2.3. And if I take a look on the hardware you get more then you pay. So its really a good choice if you dont want to spend that much money on a mobile phone. Also a good choice would be the Samsung wave which costs around 100€ more but does have extremly good hardware. (Like a Galaxy S i9000) However that one uses Bada NOT Android which was the reason why I didnt took it. But there are only a few good arguments why you should take a Android phone over Bada. So its up to you.

bro what toch screen bug r u talking about ??
sometimes the mobile takes a bit of time to register your touch. say, typing a msg. sometimes you type 2-3 letters & than only the letters will appear. but this is random & its not that it becomes totally unusable. just a bit annoying at times as it limits your typing speed & so will affect games that needs you to make a lot of touch control (no D-pad or scroll here).

It was my first android, and i think it is awesome. Some of my friends are using X8, Wildfire, X10. This phone's hardware worths more than its price, and believe me, it is an awesome choice to step into the world of android!
The only time I've ever noticed any significant lag was during the beginning of each level of Angry Birds. Other than that it has been great.
The phone is nice but check this thread for a common problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=894210
nice work
nice work man...Custom ROMS to meet every person's taste.. GOOD WORK !!
This phone is the ideal way to get to know Android, imho.
It has decent performance (mainly because it is not memory restricted as many other phones are, X8 and original Samsung Galaxy come to mind), it comes with Froyo and LG has already promised a Gingerbread upgrade (though that will probably take a while to arrive), and it has no annoying quirks with regards to ordinary phone functions.
I come from the original Samsung Galaxy, which cost twice the amount and is still stuck with android 1.6 and incredibly low RAM memory (okay so the screen was awesome and it had 8GB internal storage). There was also a problem with the proximity detector which meant that I often accidentally hung up on people while talking on the phone.
None of that bull**** on this one, it works really well. I suggest you pair it with noejn's excellent Void. rom (beautiful black theme and very configurable!)
The only other budget android phone which might even be better is the ZTE Blade (aka San Francisco) because it's cheaper and because more ROMs are available.
Other decent budget androids:
- x8: stuck on 2.1, low RAM and no roms available afaik
- samsung apollo/europa: low resolution, stuck on 2.1 afaik
- HTC Wildfire: nice phone, but low resolution and slower processor
- that's about it, at least what's available around here...
- samsung apollo/europa: low resolution, stuck on 2.1 afaik
It already has Froyo.

Certain versions have about 150 MB of free memory available. IMHO that's "memory restricted" for a phone sold today.
Depends on whether we're talking about ram or flash memory I'm talking about ram and no, a phone with 512MB still qualifies as well-endowed!
Sent from my LG-P500 on Void.
would you still recommend void over one of the two gingerbread ports; either cm7 or the other? thanks!
I'd still recommend void over the Gingerbread ROMs at this point. It may not be the latest and greatest, but everything works.
GB roms are in alpha phase, one big benefit with VIOD is that the google Ads are blocked, if google ads are blocked in GB roms, then i am happy to use it...
I believe you can't get Adobe Flash on the phone because of the mediocre CPU used.
My TouchWiz keeps having to redraw itself after exiting from big apps, such as Browser and Facebook. Also, I find that the browser have to reload opened tabs very frequently; sometimes just existing the browser momentarily to reply a facebook message leads to a tab refresh.
Are these signs of insufficient ram or are these problems software related? Any experts care to shed some light on this issue?

More than enough for GB not nearly enough for ICS. 2GB will be just right for an ICS phone with a custom skin. 1GB for the OS itself 512mb for TW and all the background services/ cached apps and 512mb for the user to run his desired apps.
There is a simple rule in computing - more memory (more resources of any kind) never hurt. Yes, people can quote all the articles they want about mobile OS's not needing that much ram, but -
- Android is not nearly as optimized as WP7/iOS
- Android likes to keep more apps open, it was designed to multitask
- over the next 2 years, memory demands will increase. Every version of Android uses more ram
Trust me, you won't see any high end Android phones with less than 1.5GB ram very soon.
I even think Samsung will release 2 Gb ram version of international GS3 in the next six months. They should have done it at the first place and that would have made the phone more future proof.

How would they make money from mobile sales if you didn't "need" to buy their new phone in 6 months?
EVERY phone company would be thinking about their next model months before the latest phone has even hit the shelves.
They give you what you need not what you will need
They should develop 'virtual memory' like in windows and make use of the 16gb,

Same thing is happening to Galaxy S III as well! Not a dealbreaker, but still bothers me a bit. The thing is, I don't remember this happening to my Galaxy S II.
To all of you, open build.prop with a root explorer and change
Code:
dalvik.vm.heapsize=256m
to
Code:
dalvik.vm.heapsize=128m
and all should be good.
Don't forget to reboot afterwards, otherwise the setting won't be applied.
my S2 hang when open game that use feint.. i think i doesn't support so many app to be open frequently.. or maybe i used gb4.03 and used so many flash app
Guys I'm facing the same problem. When I received my new phone, it was working beautifully. During the next 2-3 days, I tired using all the features and apps like drop box, ChatOn, S Voice, Voice cmds and all other frills. Then I downloaded few apps like Ultra Keyboard, SwiftKeyboard Trial, Ex Dialer, Dolphin Browser HD. Done some heavy surfing, downloaded mails and stuff like that and my phone started to lag heavily. TouchWiz started to redraw every time. Then I had a look at the available RAM. First of all it was only 780 out of 1GB and then free was only 23 MB. Then I looked into the list of cached processes and it was a long list. I restarted my phone, disabled most of the apps, downloaded Apex launcher, set the debugging option to limit background processes to 4 and my RAM is normally around 150-200 MB free. But I can see that it is depleting. Also on the Apex launcher, it happened that while returning from my G Talk, then screen went black for almost 5-7 seconds as if the phone froze. But it came out. I re-checked the memory and it was around 158MB. So I don't know why this happened but it is frustrating to have a top notch device and this kind of experience. Any suggestions?

I believe it is most likely a scam (which survives based mostly on the placebo effect and on the fact that users can be sometimes stupid) - but that is just my opinion.
Its a bit like the defrag programs for SGS3 .

Simply put, it creates a Swap file for Virtual Memory on your Internal SDcard. Doesn't look like a scam. I used to run 512mb Swap file on my HD2 but it will never be like real RAM. I have 2gb ram with my S3. But, even if I had the 1gb version, I would not use swap....anymore. I would sooner optimize my running processes and allow the OS to autokill as needed. Less multitasking...but far smoother and reliable operation.
Ok. I am a s3 user for last month. But disappointed on s3 multitasking capabilities. Seriously If u r playing a basic game like angry birds and if u got a call in middle after finishing call the game reload s itself. Wtf. My old lg optimus net with 512mb ram and arv6 800 mhz pro works good at these things. I was able to use uc browser, equilizer app, songs playing in background and also whats app same time on lg op net. But on s3 having quad 1gb ram it sucks. Some times it reloads equilizer app also that hardly takes 2 or 4 mb
I guess because sammy has loaded so much bloatware that leads to 650 or 700 mb ram always in use. What is the use of these specs then????? :banghead:

There's nothing that we can do about stock, though. Just move on or go for a custom ROM/kernel.

It's not due to the bloatware. It's actually a problem with ICS and jellybean. They just use more ram than the older versions of android. For example, my old galaxy s could multitask amazingly well on froyo 2.2.1 but not as well on gingerbread and worse on cm10. Similarly, your lg optimus was probably on froyo of gingerbread, which inherently use less ram. Even if you disabled all the s3's bloatware, you'd only get a minor increase in multitasking capabilities. In order to multitask well on ICS or jb, you'd need 2gb of ram. Hopefully, android 5.0 will optimise ram usage and make multitasking better on 1gb ram phones.

No, no; I wouldn't bash you for this. The multitasking issue is a big thing and has been present for a long time. For example, look at my review post and look at the list of negatives: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37700176&postcount=9061
Multitasking really, really sucks on the S3! Samsung have done an awful job.
I really hope Google can fix two major things on the next iteration of Android's OS;
1) Better RAM management (which would improve multitasking and load)
2) Giving us cloud storage for game data (it would be a huge help for those people who wipe or switch ROMs)
Hmmm really hoping that sammy will fix this annoying issue asap. I dnt want to root and install custome rom just nw. I can experiment with these things on my old lg. Its on jb cm 10 already but camera not working. But my s3 is new so will use it stock. Also afraid of sds.

Well no doubt multitasking sucks on s3. I guess it's not due to jelly bean. My friend's s2 works great on jelly bean and multitasking is great on it. I guess the problem is on software side of s3. 1gb ram its more than enough for handling phones like s3.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
This has been discussed plenty and you're right, it's one of the s3's biggest flaws. The only obvious solution is the only one you can't really do - add ram. That or, you know, hope samsung takes his head out of his ass and actually fixes this since it's rather shameful, but I won't be holding my breath.
But there are workarounds, even if not perfect:
- you can use a custom aosp based rom. There're plenty to chose from. Although i haven't tried how their memory management is better than stock's many people report it is. And they usually use much less ram too and that also helps. The bad side is, since samsung didn't really deliever on the sources they promissed, any aosp rom for the s3 isn't as optimized as it could be. This translates in worse battery life, somewhat more lag than expected, aparently worse camera (from what i heard) that stock stuff... Some people don't even notice other can't live with that - up to you.
- use swap. by installing a swap-enabled kernel you're able to multitask more. This isn't the same as adding ram although it's probably as close as it gets functionality wise. What you're doing is creating a file on either the internal or the external sd that will help with your poor ram managing.
You can get more info here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paging if you're ineterested how stuff works. There's also plenty of info on such kernels on the "original development" thread.
There are prices to be paid though, internal and external sd's are never as fast as ram, so you'll probably feel your phone slower overall, even more if you use the external sd which is known to be even slower than the internal sd (card class is a huge factor here since it determines how fast your card is at reading and writing).
Also, since your phone will be constantly writting/reading from sd you're also reducing it's life span. If your internal sd breaks down, you'll need a new phone since the internal sd can't be replaced. If it's the external sd you can just buy another one cheap.
I did try this with an 8Gb class 6 card and a 512Mb swap. Sure it multitasked like a boss but phone was much slower all around. There are reports from people saying they don't notice any slow downs with a class 10 card though. They're rather cheap so i'll give it a try one day.
- sell it and buy the 9305 with 2Gb of ram. Or wait for the new S4. Or, if you're tired of getting shafted by samsung, go for any other brand. To be honest that xperia Z is looking mighty fine lately...
Super nice info friend. Will try other kernel but not nw. Will wait and watch what sammy is gonna do to fix these in next updates??
So many issues wid this flagship droid. Sudden death, exynos abuse, heating issues........

Well, it sucks how the phone just kills, stops or breaks whatever you leave running either in background or when the screen turns off. And it's plainly annoying to see almost every app getting reopened after a while even if nothing significant happened. Since there's no working multitask I'd rather have what apple does for "multitasking". At least apps are reopened where they were left.
But I'm keeping it for a bit more. I guess I could sell it and get the 9305 for little more money but I'm waiting to see whatever new comes out. If nothing pleases me I can always get the 05 at any point later, probably cheaper too. There's a 4.2 rom from Samsung to the s3 just around the corner, and I'm aware this is wishful thinking but who knows...

Have you checked what the multitasking is like in aosp roms?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
2 pages and all of the mockery and nonsense flying all over the wall... You guys should sell your phone really, you lose couple hundreds dollar more and buy HTC or sth....save the b*tching
Solution: swap, lower the low Memory Killer value (original value is too high to keep app initial load faster, apps like system tuner or minfree manager will help), lock app logic (so that app doesn't get kill almost immediately when you use another app in between of a big app.
Reason why the galaxy s3 is so bad at multitasking is that to ensure users of less lags, less forgotten apps running in the background hogging the ram. Unfortunately android doesn't have a "pause in between" feature, but you chose it so find the d*mn mod and stop whining. I use AOSP and don't even say I defend samsung.... I just hate the nonsense...
Edit: Btw, titanium backup is only 6$ or so, buy it and freeze the crapwares if you don't use. Freeze, not uninstall so the next time you update your custom rom it won't reappear.

Not sure what is wrong with your phones
Alright, I have read a lot of threads about this issue, but it always amazes me. I am not sure what is up with your phones. I just did a quick test. I opened messaging to a certain message, opened dropbox to my camera uploads, opened xda to this thread, and opened two games (subway surf and hill climb racing). I am able to switch between them with no reloading, fairly quick goes right back to where I was. Checking my ram I am still at 706MB/832MB. After closing it all down I am at 466MB/832MB.
Not sure what I am doing differently. I am running wanamlite v5.5. I have not done anything else special.
I suggest looking a little closer at your phone. What have you done to it and what is taking your memory. Surely there is something(s) you don't really need sucking up your memory.
I know many people report this issue, but I think everyone has a different situation. I don't see how I have no issue and others do, must be some change on the users part that causes/prevents this problem.

Hii. well try this run angry birds & subway surf same time plus songs in background & any messenger like nimbuzz then switch between apps & revert here please. also a live wallpaper.
I am just mentioning basic games. i tried running gta vc & nfs mw but both reloads after first switch.
Has anybody else experienced or is experiencing rather poor ram management on their S6e?
I'm finding app refreshes really quite abundant. Yes they refresh quickly in most cases but they are refreshes nether the less.
Worst are apps that dump you out of what you are doing like Tapatalk.
System manager tells me I gave 400mb free and yet app refreshes are a common occurrence.
My nexus 6 rarely has to auto refresh - indeed conversely I can open Tapatalk on that and have to manually refresh to get content. But at least I never get dumped out of a thread and taken back to menu.
The Galaxy S5 was poor enough with memory management, I hoped the 3gb in the S6e would put an end to forced reloads & refreshes but nope.
I have a sim free factory unlocked model, no carrier bloat and have factory restored and still same issue persists.
Its as if Touchwiz despite certain improvements is as memory hungry and uncouth as it ever was.
I know how you feel. RAM is always almost full even if there are no apps running. I can multitask without refreshes if I go to an app for a few seconds. But if I spend like even just a minute then I get a refresh. Even with just one tab on Google Chrome, I get a refresh immediately by just using Facebook for a while. I mean wtf?
I believe it's due to the memory leak on 5.0.1 wait till we get 5.1 to see if they fix this issue

No memory leak is only on nexus devices and related to its particular bootloader - something Samsung device doesn't have. It won't improve if it's not good now.

I mean wtf?

Yep exactly as you describe and it's really quite annoying. Feels like the phone is being gimped by its OS Skin. We shouldn't be having this issue on a 2015 3gb top of range device.

Ah I didn't know that. Thanks for correcting me. I also have this issue as well and hoping this issue is fixed soon from Samsung.
I have this issue too.. Anoys the heck out of me;.. I can pause pandora, and then open another app, and pandora lost its place!
happens a lot more then it should.

Yep. How come all the so called in depth reviews never mentioned this issue. To me aggressive memory killing and excessive ram usage is far more detrimental to user experience than the odd bit of lag, yet the only thing we kept getting told is how lag free this device would be and how super fast the ram is.... And yet it can barely keep 4 apps in memory for 5 minutes. Its really frustrating.

ikr.. they didnt mention this ram thing at all. are they even used this phone at all to post those reviews?!? I was using an iPhone 6 Plus before, and I never had this issue at all. I hope they can fix this as soon as possible.
I don't think the reviers use it really all that much. I don't think they load a lot of apps like most us users.. Idk it is sad. I also think Pandora for example is weird. Once you hit pause the icon disappears on top. So it's free to get killed. When songza for example, just pauses and keeps an icon on top. I'll almost chalk that up to bad programming. But fb, chrome and whatever, yea.. Sucky
It's really irritating. My 6 plus with 1gb of ram is better than this. What I don't get is you can have 400mb plus of ram available and stuff starts closing. Makes no sense.
I had this issue with my nexus too, and my s5 with lollypop.. I wonder if there is a settinf

Yep... I have less refreshes with my 6+ too.
The 400mb free ram available thing irks me too - if it's free why isn't it being used ? And what the heck is using up the 2.4gb before it ? Even when I tell it to close all my apps the most I have free is around 700mb which soon drops back to the 400-480mb mark. It's crazy how memory hungry and inefficient it's being.
holy crap! finally!
I've been searching for a thread like this for a week. Just got my phone a few days ago and man the ram management is piss poor. My HTC M7 doesn't have this issue. And yes I've wondered why no review site has mentioned this at all. I mostly noticed it on Chrome.. or even the stock browser. But yes it does this auto refresh crap on other apps as well. I don't know about you guys but I have the AT&The variant non edge and I have 5.0.2.

Yeah I have a stock UK/Ireland factory unbranded handset, so its not carrier app fault either unfortunately.
The M7 & M8 are both excellent indeed - with near stock android levels of memory management, which only goes to prove an android skin doesn't have to suck the life out of a device, which is exactly what Touchwiz feels like its doing.
The S5 wasn't great memory management wise, the Note 4 was good but no where near as good as the Note 3 memory wise and sadly the S6e seems very poor especially when you consider it has 3gb. So it seems to me since the Note 3 Samsung's flagships have been getting worse ram management wise rather than better.
I have a €950 flagship phone which handles memory about as good as a Moto G with 1gb.

so you're telling me that the S5 for a year now still has crappy ram management??? that's just crazy and boggles my mind. i seriously don't want to keep this phone for 2 years of this nonsense (i get a new phone every 2 years). if that's the case i might just return this phone. as good as it is, that's almost a deal breaker to me. i always multitask switching from web page to messenger, to camera, sports apps etc.. etc.. then back to web page just to see it auto refresh every time! if i'm just bouncing back and forth between a couple apps within a min or so it doesn't seem to do this but after about 5 mins.. it never fails.. auto refresh is a certain. so sad. i don't want to go back to apple, but right now, i might have to return this phone and wait for iPhone 6S.
what also baffles me is that i don't seem to see much people talking about this issue considering this is a flagship phone and millions have already been sold worldwide.

I think because the phone is otherwise very very fast some folks may not be noticing the refreshes. Its certainly more noticeable on apps that drop you out of what you were doing back to a previous menu screen like Tapatalk.
I think people genuinely want to believe the
Hype that the S6 & S6e are the nirvana of android...
I must admit I too am shocked folks aren't complaining more or are giving the device an easy pass on this issue, but for me its a total PITA.
I will keep the S6e until the next update and hope that has some memory tweaks, but if it doesn't I'll consider just selling it on.
I tiped phonearena about this issu and they announced it today so maybe this will open some eyes in Samsung dep.

now also up on Sammobile

So far, ive had issues of battery drain with bundled apps such as the AMAZON app store, as most of us here are already aware. I wonder if this ram issue has to do with the same preloaded apps causing issues? What about people who rooted and reinstalled all Play-Store-Reinstallable apps, through the Play store, has that cleared this issue? Maybe the misbehaving apps are taking their system-level privilege a little too far?
Glad some review sites are taking an eye on this. It's actually really annoying. Even my music app constantly shuts off and I have to force it to cause a wake lock for it not to shut off (poweramp has this option)
