When i get a mms the quality of the picture is terrible, is there anyone who now why? Have anyone else this problem?
Skickat från min GT-I9300 via Tapatalk 2
maybe you can use the go launcher's sms app, it can give you good results. I haven't tried it yet
I have tried stock sms, handcent sms, go sms, and it is the same bad quality on every one

Have you tried receiving messages from different carriers?

Yes i have, but it is the same result android and iphone.

Picture will be compressed before sending as mms. So quality definitely poorer.

Yeah pic max size for mms image is like 640x480 so dont expect miracles.
Who uses mms these day anyway? I think the only person that has ever sent me an mms is my dad from his three or four years old nokia phone.

I have s2 before the s3, on s2 it's god quality on mms, on s3 it so compressed

We had the same problem when we ported i9000 roms to the vibrant. Much like you see between s2 and s3 the mms app is exactly the same. The solution was to change an XML in the app so that it used Google servers instead of samsungs. If someone would like to test I can probably try it tonight but don't have an S3 yet. Of course you'd have yo be rooted to test.

Please do.

I would just like to be able to send and receive mms without it being converted to a slide show, I can't zoom in on pictures of anything without saving it first then looking at it. I find that annoying
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
The MMS I receive on mine are acceptable (considering the standard limitations)
But I rarely use MMS since ChatOn surpasses it completely. It's free and as long as your buddy uses it, you can send full quality pictures and other files at almost no cost. Not sure if there is a version for iPhone thought. But there are other multiplatform solutions.
Someone give this a go. If not sure how to do it please PM me and I will help. I have no way of testing but I did see in the XML that it was the same as before using Samsung as the provisioning agent so I just switched that with Google otherwise nothing was changed.
maybe its because of the high res screen ?
I have not root my s3 and i should not do it.
When i send for example a picture with a size of 150 kb from my wifes phone, when i received the picture to my phone the size is only 13 kb, but when i send a mms from my phone to my phone the size is 150 kb when i send it and 150 kb when i received it. Is it a softwhere bug from samsung or should i send my phone for reparation? Please.

What do you use to send a picture to someone's phone?
Mine are perfectly fine with both the stock and GoSMS. (Although I don't use the stock SMS program.)
In GoSMS you can set it to preserve image quality.

I have a galaxy s2 i777 running batista fox rom and i wanted to know is there a way to extend the size of a file i can send via the multimedia text message?
Im running a stock Rom and if I want to send a video that I've recorded via MMS, I need to change the record mode to "limit for MMS" on my record settings through camera

I don't think that's what the op was asking. He wants to increase mms attachment size limit.

What sms app are you using? Most sms apps have a setting for mms size. Just do a little tinkering. But be careful because a lot of carriers wont accept out like 5mb pictures via mms lol. A lot of people tell me they get an "attachment too large" message. Hope this helps!

so when i take a screenshot using either power/home or i am on on CR 4.5 and it has a screenshot feature in the pwer menus, it saves to the gallery just fine. the pic is clear in the gallery.
the issue is, when i send it in a text it is all scrambled and fuzzy. i am using go sms, but i cheked the stock messaging app and it is fuzzy in that one also.
what is going wrong in the select a pic/send it in a text process that is screwing up here? and it is on both ends, the pic is fuzzy for me when i send it and for the receiver.
I have the same problem when sending it to my friend. She has a LG Thrill...I figured her phone sucks. Everyone else gets them fine.

that cant be the issue because i can test it by sending it to myself...and both the pic i send and the one i receive are the same...fuzzy. but again, it's fine in the gallery when i select it
Go to stock messages and hit menu then mms. Then check to make sure the max size is highest. If it's not the highest it could downscale it

i got it working based off your initial suggestion! it was GO SMS compressing mms messages. I upped the size limit and the compression limit to max and now everything is fine. I overlooked this initially due to the fact that the pics appeared fuzzy in the stock message app as well, but i guess it transferred in the compressed pics from GO.

Hi guys,
I'm new here and have been looking around to try and get my question answered but haven't quite had any luck.
I'm made the move from iPhone to Android and absolutely loving it. I'm sure we're all aware of the MMS issue? I have a couple of questions regarding this.
1) When sending MMS's from iPhone to iPhone and iPhone to Android, the picture quality is obviously much much better. Why is this? Why the limitations? It's definitely not the carrier.
2) I'm aware of Go SMS and all those 3rd party apps, but is there a mod or "fix" to the resolve the issue? I'm currently using LiquidSmooth RC7 and love the jelly bean messages app.
Apologies for the long post!!!
Thanks

What messaging app are you using?
When i first made the move from iphone to android I was using Go sms and Hancent. Both had this problem but after switching back to the stock messaging app, havent had the problem.
Using Liquid Smooth ROM which has stock jelly bean messaging app.
I stuck my sim in my iPhone again and a friends Windows phone and MMS that are sent are way better quality. Only on Android it's shocking... just curious as to why exactly.

Hmmm that could be the reason why. Try using Stock SMS if you can. if not then I'm out of ideas.
Yeah already tried that. Still nothing. Apparently Cyanogen Mod has a settings menu where u can change the outgoing MMS size. I'm sure there's something in the code that can be changed but not sure where. Will wait for CM10 and see if that changes anything.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

Need to change the compression level of the MMS i guess.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Yeah, would be good if there was an option to set the limit. At the moment it's at like 40-60kb. Ridiculous. All other phones have a much higher size.
Sent from my GT-I9300
Yeah its a shame really. Only working solution I've seen is to tell go sms to preserve image quality and stop compression.

Actually it is the carrier, when you are sent an MMS, the carrier sends you a SMS telling you to get it.
Your phone then connects to their server and passes a user agent string. The carrier then works out what's best to give you.
If they haven't got around to adding you user agent, often they go for worst case scenario.
Some apps allow you to have a custom user agent (messaging, not web) which should help.
The other possibility is the iPhones were using iMessage instead.
+1 for iMessage. Why use other between two iDevice?

Op what country are you from mate? Regardless of what other people say it is true MMS on android is shocking so i use whatsapp it is a multi platform app and you can send 12sec vids and pictures via your data and it doesn't cost you anything extra. Only costs a few kbs of your data. You can also use kik. But i wish the mms quailty was better to be honest.
I don't see how its the carrier when the same carrier on other phones don't have an issue.
I'm from Australia mate. Yeah started using watsapp a while ago then deleted it.. but other people need to be on it too don't they?

Yes.
But it still might be the carrier, since iPhone to iPhone probably doesn't send mms, but uses imessage instead. That's why there is no limitations in picture size.
I personally prefer using Line. It's free (whatsapp costs 1.99 USD a year for "server costs")
iPhone to iPhone worked even before iMessage was out. Pics that were sent were delivered in good quality.
I've found my solution for the time being. Facebook messenger has added SMS/MMS threading into its app now. Very seamless and convenient. I've tested sending MMS to phone numbers without them having a Facebook account (or not being Facebook friends) and the pics get delivered in great quality.
Thank u all for your suggestions

Since upgrading my phone to the stock jelly bean firmware (rooted) I've noticed one rather annoying bug. When someone rings me, the phone no longer
displays their name & picture - just the number. Exactly as if they were not in my contacts.
But they are.
I also noticed that the sms messaging app want integrating with contacts anymore. I solved this by installing a new app (handcent), but i don't really want to have to install a new dialer.
Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix?

I'm on LJ4 and have the contacts photo showing up when called...
To clarify, the dialer itself is fine - when I'm dialing, it can find my contacts.
It's when I get a phone call. It displays the number, but didn't associate it in any way with any of my contacts.

Im in lj5 and everything works here. Probably you have duplicate contacts somewere.

yeh duplicate contacts or do a wipe and root it with a decent rom
Am rooted, but want to stay close to stock. Well check to see if there are dupe contacts. Thanks.

You have to wait 1 or 2 seconds for the name to show... this happens to me sometimes... not all the time... and not with every contact... but eventually it will show...
It's never shown yet - even after a few minutes.
It does look like a contacts issue. Even I look in the contacts app, there are no duplicates. However, when I try and update a contract from a phone number, it lists a number of extra contacts - including plenty of duplicates.
Not sure how to access these extra contacts normally though...
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I think these extra contacts may have been added by syncing Google+ contacts. I actually switched it off fairly early on, but it seems to have corrupted my contacts now...
Any ideas on how I can fix this?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
Removing the relevant gmail account from my phone & then re-adding it appears to have fixed the problem
