[Q] Can you run macros? With NFC? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hi,
Is it possible to run macros that would launch a specific application and then perform an action, or actions, in that application?
Then ultimately I would like to be able to launch the macros with NFC tags.
Thanks.

I assume so. Though for specific things like you speak of, NFC task launcher found in the market, which programs the tags automatically, won't be useful to you. You'd have to program them yourself I'd say. I would check out the NFC hacking subforum here under the general section. They have tons of info.

Okay, thanks. I'll repost my question over there since I don't see anything about it.

[Q]Does this app exist? (or clues to making it)

So I've set up a spreadsheet to do all this work for me. basically I enter in minimal data, eg clients name and the package they ordered, andy auto fills all of the related expenses and ordering needs, as well as remaining balances.
what I'm looking for is an app I can read this information from the spreadsheet and display it better. or an app that I can put all this information into. I'vel try a couple different database apps, but those are mostly for making lists. does anyone know something that would fit the bill?
-OR-
would it be possible to create this in google app inventor?
Thanks.
Omg!
I totally thought I was in the android general section!
Sorry fit cluttering up the dev section!

That's all right, got you covered. In the future, if you'd like a thread moved, just PM the mod for that forum (currently me for the Eris.)

As a last resort, could you accept being able to merely manage the spreadsheet on your phone? I haven't used any of the Office-compatible Android apps in a while, but I know some handle Excel, if that's what you use. Or even if you use the free online Google Docs, it's compatible with Excel as well.

Alternative Market?

I've got a simple question that perhaps somebody could answer. I know that there are some alternative markets available on the net...some of which look exactly like the android market. I was curious to know if there is some kinda open source project (or the like) for a custom alternative market.
The reason I ask is because it would come in great handy for my business. We have a few in-house apps that are currently distributed to managers as APKs via email. It would be great if we could have a central market for which managers can update our apps from as opposed to manually sending them out, at which point they must be installed manually.
I thought I saw something a while back about some type of market framework, but now I can't find any reference to it.
Any information on this subject would be greatly appreciated!

I'm not sure that I've understood completely what you meant, but you can check out Handster or the new Facebook-based Market - ESDN.
I think he is thinking of an app that would allow him to distribute apks to "in-house" business phones.
There are lots of "market-like" apps out there - SlideME, Amazon Appstore, Handster, etc. I haven't seen or heard of any market software that is open-source, however.
Alrighty...I guess it was worth a shot. Though it would be pretty cool if something like that existed. Thanks for the replies guys.

If you wish, you can try this..

While that is an alternative market, it's not exactly what I was looking for. I'm looking for an open source alternative which would enable me to use my own repository.
I think my search has ended though...I came across an open source project call aptoide:aptoide.com
It does enable me to setup my own repository, and I think that's what I'll be going with.
Interesting... looks like I'll be adding a new element to my primary source server as well.
An alternative would be to use dropbox and allow your people to sideload the apps. The phones would have to be provisioned to do so, however.
AppBrain is real good.
Aptoid and apktor - google for them.
Aptoid.com have a php script to generate xml file for android clients, but somehow it did not work for me.
See aptoid.com server section.
Im thinking about python script, but i dont have any programming skills
Dude just go to blapkmarket.com
Thats it. Your problems are solved

I recently discovered (and published an app on) moborobo market. It looks interesting.
Another recent market I tried is opera market.

Communicating with Mobile Wallet Apps

Hi, all.
I apologise if this is a weird/stupid question or if it's in the wrong place but I'm relatively new to Android development in general and I'm just looking to get a feel for what is possible and what isn't.
I know that the stuff regarding the secure element inside certain phones is kept on a strictly need-to-know basis and Google only lets certain people have access, but how about the apps that are running on the phone, such as Google Wallet?
What I mean is, is it possible to write an App that communicates with something like Google Wallet (not necessarily this app specifically) instead of an NFC device? At its simplest, when you pass your phone over a credit card terminal, it communicates via the NFC chip to the wallet application. What I'm looking to do is bypass that terminal and just communicate directly with the app via another app, sending the necessary commands directly. Is this possible? (If so, I'm not looking for a how-to, just if it's doable or not).
I know it might be complicated and there's a lot to learn, APDU commands and all that - that's fine, but as I said above I'm a bit of an Android n00b and I don't want to put a lot of effort into building a test app and learning all the API commands if what I want to do isn't possible.
If someone could chime in with their knowledge, I'd be very appreciative.
FYI: I work in the credit card industry, but my company doesn't deal with mobile (yet) and I'm putting the feelers out for what is and isn't possible in that area.
Thanks in advance!
Please ask questions in the Q&A forum, not development.
Thread moved.
Also, OP - this may help
https://developers.google.com/in-app-payments/docs/
Sorry, my mistake.
Also that link is about in app payments, I'm not looking into doing anything like that. Rather I need to communicate specifically with the applets that are stored on the SE within the phone. I presumed this would be through whatever app installed them (i.e. google wallet) but I feel I may be mistaken on that.

How to develop an application for Android?

I want to develop a new sms application for Android that suits my needs without all the extra stuff I don't need..
But where do I start, and is it difficult to get it done?

As a concept it shouldn't be ultra hard to develop, but it all depends how complex you want this sms application to be. As far as how hard it would be to develop such a application depends on your programming expertise. If you have never programmed anything before it's still manageable but it would take a lot of time and effort. Still take a look at some of these links that can hopefully get you started.

Good luck
Tasker (when run on GB or later) now comes with App factory, which allows you to conver tasker projects to Apps (no copyright problems... tasker allows you to do whatever you want with those created Apps, just mention tasker in your credits).
Seems like one of the easier options to me for developing simple applications for someone starting completely from scratch.
(I'm not a developer, take it fwiw).

Very Basic Question about "Exiting" applications

Before someone starts telling in Passive Agressive mode that "No question is stupid, atleast do a search in threads/ search engine" I would like to clear few things.
1. No my question is NOT about Task managers/ management.
2. Yes I did search and looked for answers.
3. It's just a simple question so please answer in simple terms or guide me to a link which explains the basics to give some relief to a little irksome question which has been on my mind since long.
Now the actual question.
Why the Android OS is designed in such a way that when you stop an app by using back/ home button the application doesn't really quit. As in desktop/laptops OS there's a cross button and we know that the application/ program is actually closed. Why the mobile apps keeps lingering on in the background or task lists. I understand that in mobile environment one needs apps quickly available to him which hardware/ software maker pride themselves towards speed, that capability does count towards camera, browser or one odd app the user thinks he needs readily available. Few apps and games do ask "Are you sure you want to quit". Yes you know and I know those apps sneakily keep updating/ working/ interacting data in the background (trust me this doesn't mean I'm paranoid about battery/privacy/security. I just want to know why). So one simple question "WHY"?. Why Android and it's apps aren't designed in a way where you can actually quit.
Second part of question is why apps "update" so frequently without any visible/significance change? Is it a great conspiracy by internet service providers, app developers and mobile manufacturing businesses. I mean why apps always need updating without much of change.
Thanks in advance.
