Well after much ummm'ing and aahh'ing I finally ordered my S3, which should come today.
Even though blue was available I chose white. I've ordered the blue flip cover and think it contrasts nice with it.
I currently have an android, sensation XE, but am still new to androids world coming from iOS.
So am I right in thinking...
Apps are backed up fine via Google.
Contacts are synced via Google
SMS I have a backup to my SD
Photos and video are on my SD
Can't think of anything else, can anyone else?
I have a couple of cases already order, a slip case, a pouch, flip cover on order. A 32Gb SD, screen protector, a-jays One+ headphones.

You can use SMS Backup + to backup your SMS, MMS and Call Log to your GMail account. This way, you can have a backup, and even restore them (SMS and Call Long only for now), even if the SD becomes corrupt. Link below:
SMS Backup +
Thing to remember is that the phones internal memory on the SGS3 is listed in the file explorer as SDcard whilst the SD card is actually listed as exSDcard... Took me a while to work this out with my SMS back up...
GoSMS for example looks in the SDcard for the files to restore... Naturally it couldn't find them because I'd put them on the exSDcard

OK so my XDA is never comming back to life. I can almost live with that.
That data I had on my SD card is still in the format for the XDA. how do I convert it back to be read on my computer. I am talking about the windoes app files like word and excel. As well as the note files.
Please and thank you
I still don't understand how it can have passed all the hardware test in bootloader and say the GSM is OK but stop at the welcome to T mobile screen and show the three lines in the lower right hand corner that gives the versions for the ROM and such. But then just stop there.
I 'm not sure what was the case, but haven't you tried SD flashing ? .. what's yoru bootloader version ?
for your SD files, if they are not so personal or confidential, you can give this SD to a friend who has XDA and ask them to send you the files by e-mail from their PC
I have SD flashed 2 or 3 diffrent versions to no avail. Boot loader is 5.22
Free XDA that don't/won't/can't work. It now includes a broken screen and a case that has seen better days. All it will cost is shipping. Unless you live close to Omaha, Nebraska and want to pick it up. Charger, Rino skin case, and what ever else I can find that came with it will be included.

Well I had ordered my G-tablet from Amazon and when I got it it was sealed in the cellophane and everything looked in order. When I charged it and powered it up though it didn't go through the new setup per say as the manual states.
Plus many apps were already on the home screen like angry birds. Plus a live walpaper was set as the walpaper. I had trouble trying to install some apps plus I kept getting force closes on almost all apps. I decided to do a factory reset.
Let me say now it looked and performed like a brand new one going through the steps. Like setting up family and name accounts. setting the time. wireless connection...
This makes me unhappy because anytime somebody returns a product for whatever reason the item is suppose to go back to the manufacturer to be checked out and repaired if necessary. Then I believe they are sold as refurbished.
This sounds like someone at amazon got it back under the belief that somebody just wanted to return it. They in turn put plastic wrap on it and resold it.

Send it back stating what you just stated. It's your money you decide what you want to spend it on. You were purchasing new and that is what you were expecting, however, that is not what you feel you got. So send it back for one that makes you happy.
I believe a lot of gTablets are coming like this.. I got mine 2 or 3 months ago, and experienced exactly this.
As for Angry Birds, I believe they advertise this as coming pre-loaded on the gTablet.
You can return it, but I bet many here will tell you that you'll wind up with exactly the same scenario on the new one they send you.
Mine came the same way. I remember someone posting here that a Viewsonic rep said many (or all?) tablets were tested before being sealed up. If you load up the web browser, you might even notice it's got CNN.com cached and displayed, which seems to be part of the test suite. Your tab is likely new as Amazon stated, you just weren't the first human to touch it

No its ok....I'm just glad I decided to select the factory reset. Because there were many things going wrong that shouldn't have been..As far as angry birds being include, or not is not what really told me someone had set this tablet up because it didn't go through the normal process of step by step setup procedure.
I had several apps on the home screen, which when I reset it I had very few and no angry birds, but hey it worked and setup an account like a new tablet out of the box was suppose to..
So all is well. I'm just stating this isn't right if Amazon is doing this with returns.
Somebody had mine not knowing what they were doing that caused many problems...

did yours come with the inability to install basic apps like amazon app store app, or force close on everything you did. nothing would play correctly. Videos. I bet not. So whomever had their hands on this one did a little more than they were suppose to..
When new it asks you to set the time and if your account if a family and the names of the family, setup email, setup wireless in a certain order. My tablet didn't do that....any of that. It was like powering up somebody elses tablet without their email account or wifi.
Paul
Anyway all is good..
To others if you have one new out of the box and have a lot of problems..force closing of apps then I suggest you just do the factory reset. save you a lot of headache down the road
Assuming you had the falling leaves live wallpaper, this is how they are currently shipped.
This is how they come. I had lots of apps FC right out of the box. As well as all the icons on the desktop and no 'new user' setup. This is normal as long as it had the plastic wrap on it and the actual unit looked untouched.

ok this is normal and weird at the same time with the ( this is how they come live wallpaper and apps force closing), but the strange thing that everyone will have to agree on is the restore, or resetting of the tablet where e
verything is suppose to go back to the way it was out of the box. Live wallpaper and the installed apps like angry birds should have been there. Right? I mean if this is how they ship. No not on my tablet. i got aw blue background with clouds and only the basic apps, which is fine because with the system reset I didn't have anymore forced close apps and i was able to download and install amazon app store without problem and actually use it. thank u to everyone that commented
Mine was the same way when I got it... After I turned it off for the first time and back on, it gave me the "out of the box" setup screen. It does seem like Viewsonic would want to make a better impression for the user.

I wouldn't know -- about 10 minutes after I received it, I had already flashed a different ROM After reading the horror stories, I was not interested in even one minute of the stock experience.
Seems from my memory most of the ones from Woot.com came like this. Mine did.
I got mine from Woot and it came with Angry Birds preinstalled. The worst thing is that I can't even play, it show a blank screen when I tried to run the application. Only when I update the ROM to 3588, the apps worked!
I have two gtablets and they both came pretty much the same way. Now you should be able to understand why the gtablet somewhat flopped when they were first released with software like this. I have kept one of them stock that my 5 year old daughter uses and mine has Cyanogenmod 7 on it and they both actually work well. Out of the box was pretty ugly though.

How do you flash or change the ROM?
I bought 2 gtablets fromwoot and both came intheexact same state. Never felt used but both tablets hadthe exact test proceduredone even had the icons on the sameplace somaybe its a nandroid(or master pre rom) made tohave angrybirds preloaded
Any way both got rooted and rommed so i dont complain
Enviado desde mi GTablet usando Tapatalk
Mine was the same. The packaging looked new, but the extra launcher on it meant it wasn't direct from the factory.
After a week of not being sure if I wanted to send it back, I found a rom I like, and am very happy with it.

Patriot 16gb class 10.
Have had zero problems since last friday.
Sitting here at work and i notice out of the corner of my eye that it restarts itself randomly. I leave it alone to finish up some other work and i notice my backround has changed(from black). Go into gallery....Every photo i have taken since friday(about 60) is now gone. Nothing else. Just the pictures taken with the HTC camera app. Vignette pictures are still there....
I searched around but havent found anyone else that had these issues. Curious though.

1. Sorry for the language. There were alot of good pictures this weekend from a Brazilian party(could imagine all the 3d goodness from that) and others. I was pissy to say the least lol.
2. Never heard of it before. I had one in my 4G for about 5 months before it was stolen and i never once had a problem. Win some loose some i guess.
Running "TheRealSync" app now that automatically syncs to my dropbox once a day. I was hoping lookout would copy the .mpo extension but it only does picture extensions.
Patriot is ok but their build quality ain't Sandisk. I've had Patriots break on me, especially their SDHC cards. However, this sounds more like it's a China made fake microSD. By chance did you buy it from eBay?

I'm seriously thinking about getting DNA on Wednesday and giving my S3 to my Spouse, who's still rocking the Thunderbolt. At first I was a bit dismayed by the 16GB storage option, but I looked at my 16GB S3 and realized that I never used more than 4 GB for Pics and Video, since everything is uploaded to my G+ account anyhow, and my 32GB SD Card is sitting idle. Here's something interesting.....this is available for the S3 and the iPhone....maybe they'll make it for the DNA? http://egoncompany.com/collections/hybrid-series-galaxy-s3
dude this is sick! i hope they do i will buy one asap!!
That is awesome!!!
I have to add....I don't play any games on my phone. I strictly use my phone for checking e-mails, surfing, FB, Google+, Twitter, and Pictures (I don't think I've unpacked my D-SLR at all since I've gotten the S3...it's a capable Point&Shoot), so even 16GB would be enough for me, but it's nice to know that there's possibly an option out there. Even if it isn't....I have a 3rd, 4th, and 5th line all coming up for renewal in March, so if I'm not happy, I'll just play the hand-me-down game and give the DNA to my mom, and get myself whatever the flavor of the day is at that point.
Okay, that is awesome. We need to bug the hell out of them and see what happens. I would certainly think they'd see the value in doing it, as the models the currently list offer higher memory configs out of the box.
Update: I sent them an email politely suggesting that we've got the perfect device for their business model. Lower memory than some and likely popular despite it's configuration.
This is great. I'll definitely pick one up if they make them for the DNA.
guys i dont get why you are all so excited... this is just a case with a sub holder - the memory on the usb itself does not integrate with the phone lol

Just a small USB drive.
I am crying over here, LOL...
As soon as I went on to the EGO Online Shop and saw the case, I knew immediately that it was nothing more than a case, storing a Micro USB Thumb Drive.
It does not mention anything about storing photos, music, apps, NOTHING on the Thumb Drive directly off of the phone.
It pretty much doesn't explain anything about what it does or it's use.
So, I can see where some people thought it would expand the on board memory of the DNA or iPhone or whatever phone they make a case for.
BUT, I did get a good kick out of some of the comments after people thought it would be a memory expansion for the phone.
ECO should be more specific and at least explain what the case and USB Drive is for.
On that note, if they were to make a case that would expand the on board memory or just so that we don't have to store all our pics/songs etc
on the phone and onto a USB Drive, that would be awesome.
Good luck to all with the DNA.
Nice phone, but I have had a ton of Androids (Most recently SGS3 from T-Mobile and Verizon), and this is just another one to add to my list. With the exception of the really nice 5" screen and
gorgeous display, it's just another Android Phone.

Well it would be kind of nice because then you could use this to expand it:

They were talking about this in another thread, and if you combined the two that would be freaking sweet.
I've gone through the headache of transferring files when buying a new Android phone a few too many times, and I'm getting sick of how asinine it is compared to iPhones.
With an iPhone, it's as simple as restoring from a back up done in iTunes. EVERYTHING is synced properly. Photos, videos, music, apps and data, system settings. It's a complete transfer.
Meanwhile, with Android nothing is simple. I've tried various tools and NONE of them have done what they claim they're supposed to do. I've spent money on apps with false promises.
What is the best/easiest/simplest way to transfer everything over to a new phone so that the experience is seamless? I want all of my photos, music, apps/data, system settings, themes... everything!
Is this even possible with Android? Someone please help....
For apps and data you will need root. For the rest just sync them to one of the cloud services. There is also an option for it during setup to move stuff from one phone to another. I never bothered using it so not sure how well it works.
I've tried the one where you link them up with NFC and leave them sitting next to each other. I've also tried the Motorola migrate tool (when switching to another Motorola phone) and various apps that claimed to sync apps/data. None of them did what they were supposed to.
When you say I need root, what specifically about root is necessary to transfer apps/data?
This such an obvious fail by Google to not recognize the need for this kind of service. Honestly, I don't get why there isn't yet an app that can do this.

Because the partition that the app data is stored on is not accessible without root access. Google also has a back up option. Titanium Backup is the most common used app for backing up apps and data.
For the most part the google backup works for people that buy phones once every few years.
I tend to change phones at least a couple times a year, sometimes more. Usually it's when I need the cash so I sell what I have to buy something cheaper. Then when I have the cash, I buy something newer/better.
Currently I have a pretty kickass Motorola X (32GB, white, cognac leather), but I'm out of work and broke so I need to sell it. I'm going to be ordering the Elephone P7000 to hold me over until I can buy a new flagship.
Thanks for the help. I guess I'll spend the $ one more time, and hopefully have better luck with Titanium Backup, than I did with the other ones.

It's a free app but I would suggest buying the pro key or you will have to hit a button on ever app restore.
