Future of ICS for P500 - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hi there
out of curiosity I am following the ICS development since I bought my Optimus T and to me as it looks it seems to be quite difficult to get an ICS build for this phone which is on a similar feature level as GB. Most builds I found run well but often lack here and there some important tools like camera or wifi sharing etc.
Now my question is how do you judge the future of ICS for this phone? It is not the most advanced model as I know it was cheap to buy. So I am not sure how much incentive developers have to get ICS running on this hardware.
And no I am complaining or crying out loud. I largely am glad that because of this forum I can run GB on this phone because T Mobile did not bother to update this on their own.
I am just curious if at one point ICS might work or if I should better in a half a year or so simply invest into a new phone

Most people say there won't be official ICS for our phone but developers in XDA are trying their best to get a perfect ICS rom work on our P500 just check the Original Android Development section and it'll help u...

Most features are working, it's green signal for everything which doesn't uses the OMX libraries.
I'm positive that those will be released soon, and we'll have perfectly fully functional ICS ROMs in a few months. The current ICS ROMs are suitable for daily use, though.
Still, there are many awesome GB based ROMs for our phone, and yeah I do think some features of ICS is awesome, I can manage without them too.
If you can, by all means, go ahead and buy a new phone, cause P500 has old and comparatively weak hardware now. But if you can't, there are a lot of ROMs which can get the best out of our P500, depending on our needs.

I'm thinking of getting Xperia U as a replacement ? What do you guys think ?

Future is doomed..enjoy the last android rom version on armv6..

the GB rom I am using is working great - it crashes few times on the phone but otherwise only the Radio is very noisy static.
So I am quite happy with it. The phone is pretty weak. At that time I did not want to pay more for a phone maybe I should have a well.
All I am using it for is calls tasks email and thats basically it. I wish the camera would be better because I take many mental notes with the cam.
I think one cannot expect more from it. But I noticed the limitations of Android with such rather weak phones as well and from my experience iOS runs a tick faster so the cheaper solution is sometimes with android with this phone quite annoying when using Swipe and having sometimes quite long type delays.
Ah well.

If the HQ videos part is fixed.... ICS on o1 is pretty awesome.

The devs ate working on it and it will never get a official update but the truth is that now that jelly bean is around the corner this phone will be fading away it does have a large community so probably won't become a legacy device. And you have people like me that started here and still browse the forums so yea

Atrix, should I buy or not

hi guys,
I know this has been asked already, but all I see are very old threads and a lot has changed since.
Since the Galaxy SII and sensation are available now, so my question is should I buy an Atrix or should i look for other options. I am asking this question here as most of the people are using Atrix and can better tell how the phone is. If given a second chance will you buy Atrix again ?
It really depends on the money you want to spend. I got the Atrix for $99 on contract, so it was attractive to me. The higher res display was also a plus for me. When the GB update comes it'll be nice to have the 1080p recording. Also the lapdock function works fantastically for me. I travel a lot and it's nice to be able to use my phone as a laptop and charge it at the same time.
But the Galaxy S2 has a slightly faster CPU, same RAM and the display is leagues ahead in color reproduction. Seriously, looking at them is sort of unnerving because of the ridiculously bright colors.
Otherwise I'm sure they're fairly comparable.
Decide for yourself, then you can't come back here and complain to us when you're not happy.
well i have had most of the latest android phones out there at the moment and currently have the Atrix.
Things i like about it are...
1. The size, i find that the 4" screen and overall size of the phone are perfect for me, fits great in the hand and i can select most things with one hand.
2. Screen quality is great..more 'natural' than the galaxy s2, just a shame they didnt coat the screen in the same way to resist fingerprints
3. Call quality is excellent, audio quality through headphones i find to be really good (i use Klipsch x10) and it sounds great.
4. External speaker is one of the best ive known on a phone, better than the iphone 4 and galaxy s2...yes ive owned both.
5. notification led....many of the current android phones seem to leave this out but im glad the Atrix has one as its really useful.
Things i dont like....
1. 2.2 Froyo....really, along with moto-blur nearly ruin a great phone. The phone really dosent perform like a 2 core phone. However, this can be improved by using an alternative launcher like ADW ex....thats what i am using and makes scrolling between screens much smoother and less laggy.
2. The wait for gingerbread.....Motorola could be onto a big fail like sony ericcson did when they brought out the xperia x10 with android 1.6...it had everything going for it then they slaughterd it with 1.6! crazy!
Other than the fact that it is let down by having froyo i like everything else about the phone..infact i probably find it worse than others might because i have owned the galaxy s2 quite recently (sold because it was too big for me to hold in one hand) and that phone is fantastic. Very smooth and very quick...this really is where the Atrix should be
Just my view of course...
will i stick with the Atrix?.......well if gingerbread comes out in the next couple of weeks then there is every chance...if not....well i like the look of the xperia neo
these are the facts
this phone is awesome
it sucks in the same respect bc nobody, wants to dev for it, i have not seen a single anything in the last 6 months, and finally we get a leaked buggy build from hongkong and an unlocked bl
id say 90% of atrix script kiddies on here suck
, all they do is ***** about release dates, and when is cyanogen coming, and when someone finally releases something, they troll the boards just ripping the guy a new a**hole
this phone is great but if you like modding your phone and flashing custom roms
this phone will never be there in my opinion,
and it doesnt even need an xda portal bc nothing is being developed, just gingerbread skins
and questions being asked over and over and over.
so in conclusion buy the gs2 if you like roms go to that thread , theres a ton
and if you like a great phone thats small and has a high resolution, and will probably never see a custom rom, but is stable, buy the atrix

wohooo..that is like too much of hatred.
Let me put in some facts regarding the development in this one:-
The BL has just been unlocked and custom roms are being worked on, you need to follow the devs on twitter and check out the Atrix dev section on Rootzwiki, just go the irc chat and find out more.
Official GB should be released soon, if it is not then an Atrix has already been donated to the CM team and CM should come out for the Atrix.
The leaked 2.3.4 build has nearly been perfected and AFAIK it is fit for daily use.
thanks for all the suggestions. I am quite fond of flashing ROMs. I bought a HD2 just because of its ability for modifications. since there isn't much work being done on moding Atrix, I guess I'll have to opt for Galaxy SII (btw I didn't like it due to its size)
There is a ton of development going on now for the Atrix. The last couple of weeks has been insane as far as that goes. Official Gingerbread 2.3.4 is rumored to come out this month. There is a leaked version that is pretty stable out now. The boot-loader is now FINALLY unlock-able so DEVs are going to and have already started new Kernels and ROMs. Choice is yours though.
Nah..don't bother with the stupid 2.3.4 Chinese leak. Its buggy and some limited functionality. Don't really see the point of flashing to the leak 2.3.4 update then reflashing it with the official 2.3.4 update. Flash much!?
Buy the Atrix when the official 2.3.4 comes out and check back XDA after a couple of months when fully functional roms and themes comes out. No need to frustrate urself and end up like the other idiots who can't read and flashed 2.3.4 and screwed up. Alot of that been happening lately.

What OS do you use, which WOULD you use?(for devs)

Edit: with over 600 views, it is sad we only have 20 votes! Vote and let others see who is using what, and what the demand is!
____
Development for the vibrant right now seems to be directed by the devs, but in the real world supply and demand is an important concept. Are devs focusing on the builds that are in most demand, or are users using what the devs are building because it is all that is being worked on?
I have a feeling that a comparable amount of people use some sort of custom Froyo and are not willing to go to gingerbread as there are who are continuously using gingerbread. If this is the case then perhaps the devs can use that feedback in some way. In any case it should give us an idea of the current condition of supply and demand.
The idea here is to give feedback to devs that show them that their work is being appreciated, or what they could do that may be the most appreciated. The poll is basic, posts are welcome if they contain useful feedback.
Sorry if this seems erroneous, but even if one developer(or fellow user) finds this to be remotely useful/interesting then it is worthwhile.
I myself am going to use froyo based roms until gingerbread roms are more overall stable and functional, however I almost feel forced to use gingerbread roms since they are primarily what is still being maintained or upgraded. I want the newest features, functions, and tweaks, and since froyo seems to have been nearly forgotten I am not sure what to do. Ultimately this makes me want a new phone that doesn't have this issue.
Froyo, same reasons as you said.
Gingerbread it's way nicer imo haha.
Froyo.
Ginger just doesn't feel complete yet.

I'm in college, so over the summer when I didn't have much going on and a charger was always nearby, trying different ginger-roms was fine. Now that I am on campus for extended periods without a charger, I cannot use a rom that will kill more than half my battery in 6-8 hours. If everything worked right, maybe.. but considering an entire summer not being able to get something as simple as GPS working, I would not trade it MUCH improved battery life for less than normal functionality.
I was considering getting a hercules(intl version has many hardware improvements and superior battery with gingerbread), but since it will probably have similar problems(manufacturer wise, no source, mostly forgotten after launch) as the vibrant I would rather go with the prime. But if the prime doesn't go t-mobile than that isn't an option. Which leaves me with hoping that the gingerbread source comes out(for devs to work with), or the devs will make leaps with the ginger code, or that at least a few might work on froyo code..
With so many tweaks and custom apps(like hacked camera) that have come out since most froyo roms fell into neglect, I really want one or the other. If the prime comes out and I can get a tmo version, great.. otherwise I just feel screwed/forgotten.
I feel like the only updated froyo roms are being worked on by devs that don't really have it going on yet, and they only use froyo as a stepping stone.. I wish there were a thread in development section that explained to ALL devs what needs to go into every rom as a minimum(or what tweaks work with which roms, etc).
I won't switch off tmobile, I don't like them as a company, but no other is ACTUALLY better, but they all charge far more. Every situation seems lose/lose the more I think about it.
Bump because I think the results are interesting so far.
Im on gb because the speed boost was just so astronomical... particularly cm7... id appreciate dev on vibrantmtd more than others but i think that the best dev community is one where there is variety so:
Ideally, id perfer to see eclair, froyo, gb and honeycomb roms, as well as wp7 and ubuntu and ios lol. This is my dream.
Sent from a cell tower to the XDA server to you.
I'm also on froyo for the same basic reasons already said. I would love to see the different build prop tweaks, supercharger scripts, gps tweaks, and other customizations built into them as a standard. OnlyToxic8, Dmz nightly and zendroid are the only roms with those tweaks baked into them. I'd love more options.

Im loving MIUI revamped nick and t. Hill are great in both the rom they provide and support can't be beat.
Stock deodexed and rooted KB5.
I've given up on Vibrant.
I'm getting a new phone. Seriously thinking about iPhone 5. I know, I know.
But I just want a phone that works, and Vibrant has been my 3rd Android phone with problems, constant freezing, and other random issues. Vibrant was probably my worst tech purchase ever. Can't wait to get rid of this crap.
I want the Nexus Prime, but the problem is that it is manufactured by Samsung, and I swore to myself I wouldn't purchase another Samsung product. Then again it's guaranteed to get Google updates. Ahhhh I don't know.
I'm also ditching T-Mobile most likely. I have a feeling they have a hand in Samsung never releasing/leaking Gingerbread on Vibrant.
If we had Gingerbread leaked, the phone would be good probably for another 6 months-1yr.
I just flashed my first Gingerbread ROM (Asgard) and I have to say I prefer Gingerbread.

What's "wip gps?"
I'm on a gingerbread rom on my vibrant now. They have definately become stable enough in my opinion. I am running Biff mod which even does not need to be reset to stock or loaded with GB bootloaders making it even easier now. I think the battery offput on GB roms is still there and feels lacking in my opinion but its worth the upgrade in my opinion. Currently on 2.3.5 and wouldn't go back to froyo now.

Will Photon Die??????

As we all know that there is not many developers for this photon 4g like other mobile phones ..
so i think that if there are not developers for the photon 4g then photon will die soon
what u say about this ??????
only way my photon is dying is if i forget to plug it in
I Just want to know what the hell it is you people expect?
20, 30 Roms? That all use a slightly different deodexed base? and have a different set of icons or themes? And all introduce a new set of crap that only partially works?
I mean really - there are only so many things you can do to a rom before they all become the same damn thing with a different name and "dev".
Most of what I see out there is a guy tweaking his phone, removing bloat ware, claiming "ZOMG Battery and Speed!", dumping /system into a Zip file and that someone else made and posting it for someone else to flash to their phone
Want to learn how to do it?
Flash aliens rom, tweak it how you like it, add some icons and themeing (the brunt of the work).
adb pull /system/ C:\Users\Username\Desktop

Copy all of that into Aliens Zip file, post it is a rom for people to flash - almost 0 effort to do anything but the art - which you can steal from just about anyone online and call it a "port".

That was just rude. .. this is best phone but when you compare Bionic and stupid 3d threads...well i see what he means ...and Roms are not usually the same.. Some have performance tweaks...like 4g on unlocked bootloader. Speed increase, themes and mods.. Nothing wrong with him trying to get or rally development support like some of the inferior phones have. Remember, this is a development site...

Not a function of the Rom - Lockfish (I think?) has just been able to figure out how to fix it outside of the issue with the bootloader.
I'm not being rude - I was being honest, but there is a thread at least every other day talking about how lack luster our dev section is. This IS a development forum - and I showed him (really basically) how to make a rom. No?
Honestly, when you get 5 or 6 different roms out there - there are enough similarities between them and not enough differences that there really isn't much of a point. 99% of what most people experience from ROM to ROM is placebo.
It appears both the OP and Kcarp were both in the wrong on this one, and for this reason:
OP - Phone development will progress only as fast as sources are released. This phone is still new enough to where developers are still waiting on critical components to really be able to customize this phone. Do not expect this forum to jump off like an HTC (insert model here) forum, but instead, anticipate seasoned developers finding and introducing mods, tweaks and more efficient ways to unlock the bootloader over the coming weeks/months.
Kcarp - C'monnnn man, you're better than that rant. You've been around long enough (hell, I remember ya from the Hero days) to know that these types of threads pop up weekly, and sometimes it's best just to ignore them. I know you meant well, but the last thing we want to do is scare off future developers from posting here as this phone gets older, when so many are leaving XDA as it is.
I am also getting sick of these whiny threads. This phone gets close to the battery life of my evo shift running a cm7 clone, locks gps about 100x's faster and gets a better data and call signal everywhere. My phone is stock rooted with no bloatware touched. It may take some time but even IF development never goes far with this phone, i'd still be happy with it.

This phone is Damn near the Best you are going to get out of the box. All those other phones NEED Rom's to run as good as our phone does Out Of The Box. Moto has updated this phone 3x in less than 2 months ALREADY (it would take Sammy 2 years to update the SGS2 3x). There is a rumor I have seen that Moto is working on ANOTHER update for this Amazing phone.
I could careless if I get ROM's or not. It works Great for me as is. I was lucky enough to get Grand Fathered into Unlimited Mobile Hotspot Data since I have been a customer since 1997 and spoke with a Retentions Manager (Politely) and she took care of me). No 5G Cap for me and my area is 4G Saturated. Use the Hotspot for my Xoom, HP Touchpad and Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0. I am Very, Very Happy with this phone.
Had the OG EVO before this phone and was putting ROM's/Kernels on it all the time (last one was Synergy SC2). Got tired of that. It's nice to just have a phone that WORKS like it's supposed to without ROM's.

Big +1 here. Epic 4g needed roms just to last a day on battery and to be fast enough to keep up with certain applications. Problem with the ROMs is that even journaled, they'd get buggy after a few weeks, or there would be just something about a ROM that would annoy me. Once it got dual boot capability I was flashing ROMs left and right. It got to be where I was flashing ROMs just to flash ROMs, like I forgot other ways to kill boredom.
I don't feel an immediate need to flash ROMs. If CM7 comes stable to the photon I'll probably try it just to see what the fuss is about. However, I'm more interested in eventual ICS. I'm happy for root because of Titanium backup and other such things that you need root to run. The battery is great, and it's plenty fast enough. There is one thing about this phone that no ROM could give me on the Epic 4g... the ability to make a phone call at work. The antenna is far superior.

[Q] Fascinate a good buy?

So I've been thinking about purchasing a fascinate to use for a while, I want to get the galaxy nexus (like everyone else and their brother) but I'm likely gonna just wait until my upgrade is available in July. I currently have the droid incredible, which I do love, but the fascinate appeals to me due to the hardware (GPU, DAC, SAMOLED) and, possibly, development (part of why I'm here to ask your guys' help/opinions).
I use MIUI currently and would pretty much need to have it on whichever is my next device. I see you guys have MIUI builds and from what I can tell, they are pretty bug-free. Curious to hear if there are any issues that I should know about?
I've heard reports of GPS issues with the fascinate, how is it working for you guys on AOSP roms?
Obviously hacking/modding a Samsung is different than what I'm used to with HTC, but am I correct in assuming that you guys have a lot of options when it comes to tweaking kernels, etc? I guess I'm thinking of things like voodoo sound, and display calibration (things you can't do with HTC phones) but I need to do more reading to figure out what they do and how the work on this device...
I see a lot of references to odin and kies. Are either (or both) necessary for rooting and flashing roms, and are they mac compatible? (Researching this now, google should be able to help me with this)
Since the fascinate's hardware shares similarities with the galaxy nexus, it looks like you guys have one of the most functional ICS roms currently available. With ICS source being released and the similarity to the nexus, do you guys think development will continue to flourish on the fascinate? (At least for another 6-8 months)
Finally, looking around on ebay, it looks like a used fascinate can be had for around $90-$120, does that seem like a fair price?
Thanks in advance for any help, I look forward to hearing your insights and opinions!
Im currently running ics v3 on my fassy and I cant see upgrading my device for a long time. Development is still going fairly strong, people here are very helpful for the most part. I would say its definately worth getting a fascinate if you can score one for a 100 bucks. We also have the most lulz than any other section on xda. I know odin wont work with mac, so I cant help you there...but there are a few threads around here with folks using macs with the fassy. Take some time and read up a bit more...can already tell you have done some lurking. Hope to see ya around here more if you end up getting a i500.o
*oh and gps works really well now with some of the latest rom/kenel combos. On cm7 nighlty 112 w/ glitch kenel I was getting a lock in 10sec & 5ft accuracy. Ics v3 is not quite that good but close.
I can't speak to the price, but the development here is excellent despite the phone's age. We have an excellent selection of both TouchWiz-based ROMs and AOSP MTD ROMs. As for kernels, we have at least 3 in each category between here in XDA and Rootzwiki (many of the AOSP ROMs and kernels can also be downloaded from ROM Manager if you don't want to go to Rootzwiki.
Has anyone seen John Connor?
Thanks and thanks!
I feel like I'm probably a little spoiled already since the dev support behind the incredible is pretty strong, but from what I've seen, there's a lot of active development going on here too. Also, most of the activity in the inc dev section is related to sense roms, which I couldn't be less interested in anyway.
The big thing for me is the ICS development going forward, I just see a lot more happening with the fascinate as opposed to the incredible. Basically, us incredible users aren't going to get a fully functional ICS build until a similar HTC device gets upgraded or Qualcomm updates the drivers for our old hardware (probably not gonna happen). I am skeptical as to how quickly HTC will be upgrading their devices to 4.0, and even when that does happen, it will only be newer models meaning, our devs will have to do some driver/EGL hacking and backporting to get HW acceleration working (as I understand, at least). So bottom line, it's just not looking that great for ICS on the incredible, at least for a while, but since the fascinate's GPU is the same as the galaxy nexus', you already have HW accelerated ICS, which is amazing!
I do have some other things I'm curious about with the fascinate, more so hacking Samsungs in general, but I'm pretty sure some searching should yield results, I don't wanna be asking things that have already been gone over! Thanks again, and I'd love to hear more input/opinions/advice, or if anyone could point me in the direction of some good rooting/ROM FAQs. I've looked around here but some of the stickies are either old or have broken links, still gotta check out the fascinate section at rootz though.
EDIT: droidstyle - just saw your guide over at rootzwiki, awesome.
Welp, after researching it, I went for it. Should be here Friday or Saturday so I'll be seeing you guys around!
Welcome
Has anyone seen John Connor?
and a hearty welcome to you good sir. Seriously I would say that that this is one of the easiest devices to get up and running on custom goodies.
ODIN is absolutlely indespensible and a necessity along with updated Samsung drivers. After that all you need to do is ODIN the appropriate CWM Recovery and flash your Rom of choice
Of course read up first so get the right stuff downloaded but that is the gist of it, couldn't get much simpler lol

Hey, thanks guys! Really looking forward to getting my feet wet in the Samsung realm. I'm not seeing many options as far as running Odin on mac (aside from running in a VM, which can be wonky), but fortunately I have access to a windows machine. I'll probably be using the guide droidstyle put up on root wiki for rooting and flashing my first couple rooms, but if anyone is aware of some other good guides, I'd love to check em out.
Heimdall is an open source alternative to odin. Its available in osx, linux, and windows. I personally prefer it.sure to its greater granularity.

This device is one of the hardest devices to brick also. Odin usually fixes all.. And if you're smoking crack while flashing and find that you have tried to flash ios or wp7 while in your mind jelly state. The fascinate has the unbrickable mod. But really unless your flashing roms for other devices or force feeding it pastrami sandwiches through the battery cover you won't need it

Haha, that's good to head since I do like to spark myself up a crack rock whilst flashing rooms But really, I'm pretty good with fully reading and following directions so I've never been too worried about a brick but it's nice to know that the phone is resilient like that.
I'm gonna have to do some research on this heimdall tool, sounds like that could be what I need if I don't wanna mess around with drivers and windows nonsense.
Also, it looks like I was wrong about the incredible and ICS, our devs are working on getting HW acceleration fully working as we speak. Oh well, I already ordered the fassy still has some distinct advantages like the DAC, GPU, and screen, things that simply can't be improved on the incredible with software. Only thing I'm a little worried about is the GPS issues that seem to be more hardware related with the galaxy s phones, I'll just have to see how it goes.

You will really like it from the incredible. So much of an upgrade. Its like a mini galaxy nexus (get it?) And its gpu is, however, pleasing.

As far as i can see GPS is only an issue with TouchWiz based Roms, and even then there are "fixes" in place that improve performance.
I've never had an issue on any of the AOSP Roms. Thr first cold lock takes time but after that it is fine. You can also grab an app from the market called GPSAids, it is made specifically for Galaxy S devices and if nothing else is a good way to check satalites in view/in use and such.

I feel like it's sort of a galaxy nexus "lite", which sounds intriguing to me. I'd definitely like to spend a little time with a Samsung device before upgrading to the nexus later on, I'm looking forward to it!

Thank you, that is good to know as I don't plan on running anything but AOSP roms anyway. It's just an issue I've seen brought up in multiple reviews, but since they're reviewing stock software, that would make sense.

Yes. Jt1134 "changed permissions" for the gps. aosp gps locks in seconds while indoors now..
Can't believe Samsung fails so bad at coding. But hey they keep making bleeding edge phones, and jt1134 keeps buying Samsung. Then Samsung is the only phones I'll be using. Thanks jt

Great bargain phone
I agree that Jt1134 is doing great thing with this phone, we can't lose with the potential growth that he has already made available.
Don
PS my daughter (almost 16) is ready for ICS and just need the camera to work for it to be perfect, otherwise how can a teenager live without a camera?)

My GPS concerns were definitely put to rest after flashing an AOSP rom (MIUI in my case), I'm getting just as good, if not better, GPS performance as I was with my previous device. There are a couple lingering issues: data either going out entirely or being unusably slow, phantom soft button presses, and non-functional BLN.
But all in all, I like this device way more than the incredible, the amount of control you have with voodoo sound/color & voltage control paired with glitch is amazing. And I haven't even gotten around to trying ICS yet!

Phantom button presses are the norm for this device, I think everyone gets them for the most part. As far as slow data, are you refering to how slow the theme browser is on MIUI or just in general. I know the theme browser is painfully slow but i never had issue with anything else. What modem are you using? On AOSP Roms EC09 seems to be a fan favorite so to speak and has always been the best for me. Also if data drops out toggle airplane mode on then off, should bring it back.
For BLN do you have BLN Control or Blinky installed from the market? It will not work without one of those installed. Blinky is free but I think BLN Control (the paid version) is well worth it since it has more options to fiddle with.
Hope this helps lol

Why are ICS threads closed?

I haven't seen ICS released for the bolt yet so why are we closing the threads saying it's released? As far as I can tell, it's still just vaporware officially.

If you're referring to the "HTC thunderbolt ICS update testing in final stages..." thread, i have to believe that it was closed due to a number of "off topic posts" and because the thread itself was based on hearsay instead of verifiable evidence...
If you are curious about the locking of newt's one xxx rom thread (a shame, newt and his rom are awesome), it's because the rom contains cd suite tools... See link below for more on that...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1758154
Fair enough.
I do wonder if the bolt will ever see the update officially though. It makes me sad that it didn't get gingerbread until it had been out a full year, even though the Thunderbolt was released like 6 months after Gingerbread. It's like a repeat of history here with ICS.
Personally, I don't see how HTC and Verizon can provide support like this. For me, it's not a matter of whether ics is better than gingerbread or not (well I guess it kind of is). The way I see it though is if you buy a pc or laptop, I don't think people would except not getting the latest updates for at least the 2 years we are under contract for like with phones.
All that being said, my phone still works pretty good, but HTC and Verizon will not be involved with my next phone in March.

it's doubtful. i believe HTC when they say that VZW has the finished update. IMO, the thunderbolt was pushed out prematurely to be the first on the market with 4G LTE. the unique RIL of the bolt has proven to be a mess, and has likely complicated the update process. VZW is the end party responsible for the continuing availability of their services to users and devices that subscribe to them. Serious concerns VZW may have about diminished functionality or overall stability on thunderbolts as a result of pushing the ICS update, especially for stock users (that wouldn't be able to modify or revert a bad ICS update pushed to their devices) may have stopped the thunderbolt's ICS update at VZW's gates altogether.

yes. the best thing to do is to take your money elsewhere if you're dissatisfied. the only vote that matters to VZW is that made by the consumer dollar.
The ICS discussion thread you are referring to was closed due to a lot of off-topic posts. The thread had been cleaned in the past, but it seems like it didn't help.
That's why the thread got closed.
Cheers,
YZ.
The other thread was closed by a clueless mod, who claimed that ICS had been released! Go figure. The thread was also being actively trolled, but that wasn't given as a reason for closing it.

Yes, my apologies. People make mistakes.
Lets continue with our lives, and stop spamming the boards with this little issue.
Cheers,
YZ.
Even though HTC might finish it but there's no incentive for Verizon to authorize it since they rather lock you in with another 2-year contract then provide ICS and let you be contract free.
They will not be locking me in to any kind of new contract.

I'm starting to think they are having the same problems the devs were with ics and the ril along with the camera. I'm guessing Jester and liquid figured some of them out first.
I really have no idea

I keep seeing people mention, that maybe they(HTC) are having issues with the camera or the Ril.
To be honest, the Ril could still be causing them grief, but not the camera.
I understand that the AOSP hacked-together roms have broken camera functionality and poor image quality.
However, that does not eliminate the fact that the camera works just fine in the Sense based ICS leak for our device.
So I find it hard to believe and even impossible that the camera would be what's holding things up.
It works in the Sense 3.6 leaked rom, as well as the custom rom I made from it.
Maybe folks don't even realize that there actually is functional ICS for our devices.
Does it have the best battery life going? Probably not!
Does my rom give ME better battery life then the AOSP ICS rom that everyone is using? It absolutely does!
I finally loaded the AOSP rom for the first time the other day and along with a broken camera, slow data, drops, overheating, 3 hours of battery life, and reboots, I came to the conclusion that the sense based roms are actually much better right now, in my honest opinion.
I know many say it has lag, it's bloated, it's slow, blah blah blah....Well everything works and a few milliseconds in response time isn't enough for me to choose semi-functional over fully functional.
Just my 2 cents....as I don't understand what everyone is still waiting for.
The only thing I could care about at this point from HTC, would be kernel source, period.
To each his own though.
I like to use my camera and don't feel like using my phone as a pocket warmer, while pretending everything is working great!
Bottom line I guess: The camera has absolutely nothing to do with the delayed ICS release.
HTC has no trouble making the camera work.
I agree. Nusense is awesome. I've never seen the point of running custom roms that don't at least have all the basic functions of the stock experience working, (besides maybe to help a custom rom developer to identify bugs/improve the rom) I.E., calls, camera, camcorder, data, wifi, calls, SMS, mms, etc. I appreciate all of our developers, past and present, but nusense is where it's at right now for ICS.
I would like to say and question at the same time...isn't the switch to ICS is a big change. Mainly the CPU/GPU driver for simultaneous use. This change for the thunderbolt is a huge battery drain from my opinion and one of the only reason HTC may be looking away from releasing an update to ICS. AND I think, as a final thought, it's no coincidence the kernel is not available. Bottom line, I love this phone, I like some sense features that Aosp doesn't but every gingerbread and ics Rom with sense have been battery hogs getting 12 hours of low low use. Maybe 1 hour of display and rest idle and radio standby. AOSP seems to be the best for this phone. if anyone can get remotely close to an aosp build in ics with our without sense is love to see it.
I have the rezound battery and under volted with liquid 3.2 gingerbread.

With aosp ICS I get pretty much the same battery life I got with aosp gb so I don't know why people aren't getting the same results. As for sense nusense is a great ICS ROM. It is far better than that crap leak that was released. Yea the battery life isn't what it should be considering the kernel in the leak isn't a finished product but at least everything works. In my experience with infected eternity I could get around 17 hours with a rezound battery which is almost better than some of the aosp ROMs I ran on both GB and ICS.
