Configure from field in default email app - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to set the from name when sending an email using the default email app?
I'm sending via hotmail configured as exchange in the app but the from name always shows as the full name associated with my live login. On all my other ICS devices, in the standard email app its possible to configure what you want to show as your name in the from field.
Is this no longer possible as it looks like they've removed the option from the configuration screen. Any hack to do it?

[Q] multiple e-mail accounts

I have two e-mail addresses, both with comcast. I've added both to the atrix but can only seem to access one of them. The only way for me to switch in the e-mail app is to change the default mail client (which is really annoying). Does anyone know how to select the e-mail accounts without having to change the default, exit the app and come back in?
Thanks
For some reason Motorola decided to be special, what you need to do is actually click on the messaging app. There you will see both your accounts and can fully access them. The email app will only give you the email account that you set as default. Hope it helps. Cheers.

[Q] confused email apps: two of them: @ and G

Hi,
So, somehow, I ended up with two email widgets on my desktop. I think one of them I installed separately, one was included with the Photon.
The default Android gmail app has the icon of a mailbox with "G" in it. The app that I think I installed has widget icon that's a mailbox with a "@" inside it.
let's call them the @mail vs gmail apps. The @mail app uses some OS wide account setting, where as the gmail app is tied to the google account used to sign up my Android.
For some reason, I've lost the ability to add another gmail account to the @mail program. It wouldn't configure right, even though I'm pretty sure I'm entering in the right username and password. Does anyone have this application? Can you check? Maybe gmail servers changed their settings so 3rd party apps don't work for it?
Thanks!

[Q] How do I add a custom Google email address to the mail app?

Hi everyone. I've had a look around and couldnt find the answer to my question.
Basically I have a website and I use Google to provide a custom email address. For example if my website was XDA then my email address would be [email protected]
I've tried and failed to add my email address to the email app on Android. My previous two phones were iPhones and they had no problem with the email address, they added the custom email address easily.
It seems weird to me that Apple's iOS accepts Google's custom email addresses as standard but Google' Android doesnt seem to. Could anyone help me set this up? I'm sure I'm not the only one!
hey there
just add a google account and use your personal settings should be good to go.

I know it works in Gmail but I wanted it to work in the default email app. I found a way to do it.
1. Put in your email and password
2. Select imap
3. change imap to imap.gmail.com
4. Security type SSL
5. Press Next
6. Check it's set to smtp.gmail.com
7. Security type SSL
and then it works in the default app

Ohh..u mean for the email app.. :good: yes that is the correct way..google uses IMAP to push your emails.

Use Email Fowarder on Gmail app.

Hello,
I couldn't find a decent answer, therefore I'll ask here...
I wanted to know if it is possible to associate my android device with my very own custom domain instead of '@gmail.com'. For example: I have my own email alias: '[email protected]' that is setup up as a forwarder to my Gmail '[email protected]' which is associated to my android device, but when viewing I'm gmail app it will show the 'gmail tag'... I want it to show my custom email.
Now, I know that you select to send emails using your forwarder, but that's not what I want.
Thanks.
why cant you directly configure your email account in the defaut email application and use that instead of Gmail app???

I can, but that's not what I asked for. I was wondering if you can do that using Gmail app.

[Q] Issue with contact email

Issue: When pulling up a contact and clicking on the email address (to send the contact an email), I get a message that says there is no account configured.
I have gmail configured, and I get and send from it all day long. So I don't understand why it doesn't recognize gmail as a valid account.
I set up my gmail account using "email" and it was fine. Am I forced to not use the gmail app, or is there something I'm missing?
Change the action so it's set to go to your Gmail account by default. I believe it's set to use the mail app in sense by default.

I can't find that setting. It isn't in contacts setting or gmail settings. I cleared the default settings in "mail"... but there isn't anything in gmail to make it default.
