Bricked Galaxy Player 4 - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

I bricked my galaxy player 4 by flashing sprint epic 4G touch rom on it. It was rooted and failed in Odin and now it doesn't boot at all. It just has a black screen. I'm able to enter download mode with Adam's resurrector and Windows in virtualbox. I flash back to stock and repartition and nothing. It still doesn't boot and I've tried button combos and everything and no results. Idk what to do anymore. I want to unbrick it. Please help me.

oh.I think you can't fix it by yourself.you should show it to professional repairment or warranty service.

Hmmmm.... I think you need to JIG your galaxy so download mode will work properly. Try finding a JIG for your Galaxy Player

if you can go to Download mode, its good, i thinik, you have got partition table fault, so, you should get new partition table and its should back to life.

I vote partition problem. I had the same problem with my device and was able to resurrect it. As long as you can see download mode you can still bring it back. Try flashing the PIT file for your device, if that doesn't work you might have to repartition manually.

I don't know because I heard jigs don't work with hard bricks. I've tried repartitioning with the pit for my player and it doesn't work. I know that able to enter download mode with unbrickable resurrector is a good sign. I keep flashing stock and repartion and nothing. Idon't think its partition problem. It would've worked by now.

First, What in the world possessed you to try the ROM of not only a different device, but a different manufacture? You should count your blessing you where able to get download mode.
Second now that the scolding is over, go here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531850 if that method doesn't recover your device then your up a creek without a paddle.

I've screwed my player up to the point where a PIT file won't recover it. No matter how many times I flashed a PIT or ROM/kernel, nothing would change.
You have to manually recreate the partitions through ADB.

Well I wanted to have the galaxy s2 rom on it and the international wouldn't work due to the physical home button. So I picked a us carrier such as sprint. That was actually my last method but heimdall kept saying error: failed to receive response, so I gave up. Yea that's what I heard to manually partition.

This is a bit off topic, but if you really want a SGSII rom on your SGP, just contact a SGP dev and ask them to port it (with permission from the original dev of course ).
Sorry for the slightly off-topic post

Yea that was a slightly-off topic post.

So I was finally able to repartition and successfully flash kwipper's rooted rom for my player. I am able to access download mode via buttons. But it still doesn't power on or enter recovery mode. My pc recognizes as a storage device (YP-G1) when its plugged in.

I've already tried that method with Heimdall and it gives error failure to receive response. I can't tar those files either because it fails with Odin.

Yes I did. It still didn't work so I gave up and sent it to Samsung. Fully working now and rooted stock rom. I'm thinking of flashing a custom rom. Is there a custom rom running ics that has wifi bluetooth gps and camera working?

Are you able to get into recovery mode still? For download mode make sure your holding down the correct key combination to get into download mode. You can also try using a USB Download jig which you can get from here, which when plugged into the phone will force the phone into download mode. As a fair warning the download jig's don't usually work with newer model phones but for a couple bucks it's worth a try. Let me know if you still have questions.
Motherboard dead?
Sorry to invade this post. I would just like to have confirmation on my device and it's pretty similar to what is found here. The only way I can access download mode is by pressing Q+Power and then adding the battery. Odin connects to everything, I can even flash the firmware from Bell for my Galaxy gt-i5510M and it PASS. But I can't still power it up, is the motherboard or something similar dead?
Thanks

If your device can still access download mode and Odin can successfully connect to your device an flash the firmware your device's motherboard is not dead. Try re-flashing the firmware to your device and checking auto-reboot option in Odin this way when the firmware finishes flashing the device will automatically reboot and hopefully power on then.
Thanks for the fast answer, you've been answering 3 people back on this thread, impressive.
Unfortunately I made sure of that, the auto reboot was checked but it doesn't reboot the device. I wanted to put a screenshot but I didn't realize you need around 10 posts to be able to post outside links. I've been looking through xda for a while but never posting.
I'm used to adb, so Odin is a bit new I have to admit. I've put the ops file, callisto in this case, in the appropriate ops , and then the One Package file I got from samfirmware "I5510UGKC5_I5510BMCKC5_BMC". Is there something else I could flash? It wouldn't be like some other phones where I could put down a Custom Recovery, go back to stock, etc. ?

To clarify did you put the firmware in the correct slot in Odin (PDA slot in this case) when flashing? Also double check your flashing the correct firmware for your device, as that could also be part of the problem.
Well you figured some things that were wrong. I was putting it in the one package slot. So I tried in the PDA slot, but it said "Invalid Image Type". From the sticker inside the battery compartment, it does say it's the GT-I5510M, so the 551 from Bell Canada it seems. But it's not easy to find a firmware for it, and the only one I found is at sammobile. There's plenty others under GT-I5510, but they're all European.
Any idea what I could use instead? The full name of the firmware I have is: "I5510UGKC5_BMCKC5_HOMEDOWNLOAD_TEST.tar" or "I5510UGKC5_I5510BMCKC5_BMC.zip" for the zip.
Thanks a lot for following this.

You can try ignoring the "Invalid Image Type" error and trying to flash anyway just don't unplug your phone from Odin until it fully completes the process.

sorry to interrupt you people.. but are you sure that it is a proper firmware file. because the pda file is .tar file. also, try entering the recovery mode and flashing a cwm recovery. then check if the system is mounted.

I can't access recovery mode, only download mode by simultaneously putting the battery back in and pushing Q+Power. But I am wondering also if it could be a wrong firmware... Can I just flash a custom rom through Odin? Would that make up for it? Anything to having back in working order.

[Q] Finally making progress...but now what...Telus T959P Fascinate

Hey peeps
Ok I've been at this for two straight days now in order to try and unbrick this Telus Fascinate SGH-T959P
My buddy initially attempted to flash it with something and really messed it up to the point that even the battery wouldn't charge.
I don't even care if I get it to stock.. an amazing Rom/Kernel combo will also work.
So this is where I am today... and I have spent the last two days non-stop trying to fix this thing...I have been through sooo many forums posts and websites my brain is about to cook.
Software I am using
Odin v1.7 and v1.83.. I try to use the newest one.. just in case.
ADB / SDK installed and am able to push files across to the sdcard in my phone... everything seems good in that dept
Files that have got me to where I am today
T959TLJL3 Froyo original firmware (apparently)... but can not flash all of the files from the package ..zimage and a few others just fail to flash
s1_odin_20100512.pit file (Have atlas_v2.2.pit also but haven't had as much success with it)
SGH-T959-Stock_plus_voodoo_CwM_2.3.4v2
su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed
I can successfully boot the phone into download mode every single time using the volume up and down while plugging in the usb cable
Also if i just hit the power button I get a Telus 4G / Samsung splash screen and then the phone boots into CwM Voodoo Recovery v3.0.2.8x (Orange??)
In the CwM recovery mode, I can now finally mount all partitions and it looks like things will flash.
Now that I've finally got this phone to this point, I don't want to mess it up.
I want to make sure I have the right files to complete this little project.
Need some direction from the pros.. Am I able to flash a custom rom now ? And if so, what one is best to use.
From this point how can I revert to stock? Do I have the right files ? And how since Odin fails to flash the ones I have.
I figured going to stock first was easier, then use Kies to update it.
Show me the way
Thanks.
jROC
Wow... I got it .. Finally... After I figure out exactly what I used for files.. I will let you know.
All I can tell you right now is that I was flashing a single files at a time then powering down and coming back into download mode to flash the next file.
Right now the phone is all booted up and Running Android v2.3.3 (GB LKG2) and even tho the phone is actually a T959P.. the boot screen shows up as a T959D. Interesting.

No single file that I downloaded was able to flash the phone.
I ended up flashing individual files... and kinda had to mix and match, but was able to get the phone booting back into Android OS
However the phone was missing the EFS folder with IMEI info and such..
Still was not able to recover it 100%.
Message me with your email and I will try to send what I used.

To do it, get this file.
https://gofile.io/?c=tJd0Pd
Then get odin v1.85
https://gofile.io/?c=WHkZHO
Launch odin with admin powers (sudo/su for linux, or whatever).
Then click PDA and select the tar.md5 file and start.
Hopefully it soft bricked not hard bricked.

[Q] Galaxy player 4.0 YP-G1 touch function not working after flashing

To start, I am a newb and my sincerely apologizes for my ignorance.
I bricked my YP-G1 player trying to flash a kit kat rom on it.
At this point I bought a jig and restored it with odin.
The current problem -
No touch functions work. All the hard buttons work fine but the touch screen does nothing along with the back and home button, etc.
At one point I had it working with the touch screen almost as if it was inverted in regard to accepting the input.
Did I do something that fried the hardware or is this a software issue. I greatly appreciate your guys help.
The last things I did to get it working:
I used a jig to get to download mode then Odin to flash one of the many roms available (including stock)
I tried custom kernels like steve's and also no luck
Please help
Have you tried reflashing the stock ROM with heimdall?

Yes I do have the stock tar file for Odin, but you can also find it in this thread here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1531850. The link to the Galaxy Player 4.0 (US) is this one http://d-h.st/oH3 (so please thank Zaclimon).

Hi there,
I used Heimdall 1.4.0 on windows 7. I tried all the attempts with heimdall to get the drivers with zadig.exe, etc. I was was able to detect the device but get this:
Heimdall v1.4.0
Initialising connection...
Detecting device...
ERROR: Failed to access device. libusb error: -12
The furthest I get anywhere is doing the following:
Using Odin3 v1.85
I check Re-partiation, autoreboot, and f. reset time. Then I use the Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0 U.S. 8gb.pit pit file found on forum. I flash the YPG1USRestoreOdin.tar.md5 by clicking under the PDA section.
This gets me to boot with the samsung logo and little chime. Then I go all the way through and boot to the OS. At that point no touch functions work at all, including the menu button, home screen or back button.
So i was thinking, is it a kernel issue? Does the kernel tell the touch screen to work?
So then I go back to download mode by taking out battery and placing it back in with a jig
Now i flash steve's kernal (STevEs-3.0-USA.tar) successfully and still no touch functions
SO THEN:
Instead I try STeVEs-3.0-EU.tar kernel and I get touch functions that are not mapped correctly.
That is the best that I have been able to get it to function.

I don't use heimdall 1.4.0 because I find it a bit too complicated. I guess you can try following my instructions found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=51762484, since you have a Galaxy Player 4.0 (YP-G1) and see if that lets you get the drivers installed correctly. I can't comment on if it controls touch screen controls, but why did you need to use a USB jig to go back to download mode?
Hi there,
I did exactly what you recommended. Successfully reinstalled OS however same issue, touch does nothing. I cant seem to boot into recovery so thats why have have been using the jig to go into download mode to reflash stuff. I just dont understand... when I used a different custom kernel I only had the ability to use the touch function in a weird way, it appeared as though it was inverted.... If you have any other thoughts please let me know. I thank you for your help already.

Wow that is weird. Have you tried using the other 2 kernels for our player, which are Klin's R3 and Terraailent? I find it odd that the EU kernel gave that back. Also it seems that your recovery is damage, even though that flash with heimdall should have fixed it. Try flashing one of the other kernels and then try flashing one of the latest kikkat builds.

Well depends on the variant of his device. If it's the US version, then it could be possible that good digitizer might have been inverted. Though I don't recommend it, in last resort the intl bootloaders could be used to restore completely the device. In this case it is possible that he won't have access to the recovery by the three finger method anymore.

To power your device all the way off plug it in and hold power until the battery logo comes up.
Then unplug it and hold power, home, and volume down to boot into download mode.
Use odin (https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct...=ewT0JrvKAjyPbAfN2FyCTQ&bvm=bv.91071109,d.eXY) to flash the stock firmware form here:

hi, I've managed to make it boot into recovery by using unbrickable resurrector... now i've got another problem, I can't flash stock rom :crying:
I've followed adam outler guide to recover from a brick, but odin won't flash on the player! it just says SetupConnection..
<ID:0/004> Can't open the serial(COM) port! I can only make it go to download mode, and if I unplug it from the pc it shuts... I don't know what to do!
i don't think that the drivers are the problem, i can flash on my galaxy tab 3...

My player has sometimes had this problem with Odin 3.07. It has always worked fine with Odin 1.85 however. I have attached the Odin zip just extract it and run. If it still doesn't work try installing Samsung Kies (or re-install) to get the USB driver. Should that fail install the samsung mobile USB Driver (also attached).
Kies Link (Use Kies 2.6): http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/

I'm in a similar situation (bricked after cm12, no recovery, have let the battery die, gathering info on what to do next).
Here's a total guess, maybe the repartitioning for the cm12 is messing up the stock rom (did you have "repartition" checked in odin?) have you tried flashing cm11 or 12 instead of stock?
Also if this doesn't work try flashing with the pit file which can be found lower down on the same post as the stock ROMs.

Hi, each time i flash in odin i check repartition and load the pit file...
how do I flash CM11 or CM12? I can't put it in recovery...
I think we are in the same situation, i was thinking... can't we make a CM11 or CM12 flashable tar file? i don't know if it's possibile, i'm a newbie and know only a little of android and similar OS...
uff, if the galaxy payer could only boot in recovery we could be able to flash one rom to fix it!
sorry for my bad english

I couldn't get mine into recovery either. I couldn't even get proper download mode. But, I used odin3 v1.85 (I also tried kies, and re-installing that may have installed drivers that turned out to be necessary, windows spent a lot of time searching for drivers... I'm a linux guy, I don't really understand how/why windows needs to spend 10 minutes searching for the same drivers again and again - whatever), and tried flashing lots of things, assorted pit files, roms and recoveries...
Eventually I managed to install a stock rom that I got from the first post in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39188127
It installed correctly, but booted into an animation bootloop.
I cannot flash cwm on to it. When I boot into recovery I get the (stock?) android 3e recovery, and a screen full of red telling me that cache does not exist. None of the four options, reboot, install update zip from sd, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache, do anything.
Stuck there now.

I'm going to try to flash that, thank you for your respond... Windows can be relly slow in seraching driver, linux is a lot faster XD, yesterday i tried to flash my galaxy player from JODIN3, which is basically ODIN for LInux, the problem is, after it ends, it says SUCCESS!! but the player won't boot... Maybe the battery is dead this happens everytime I flash the pit and stock rom, ODIN says success but then it shuts, giving no life signs
This is a really strange problem even I tryed to flash everything (from kernels, to recovery, to stock roms and the bootloader which posted AdamOutler) we need to ask to an experienced dev what maybe has happend, ecause i relly have no idea

I'll look into JODIN3, messing around with Windows is so painfull. I would skip flashing the pit, just odin the one thing. I've also found that if odin fails flashing something, everything else I try flashing afterwards will fail. The only success I've had has been with disconnecting everything, plugging the device back into the PC, the starting odin new.
I've gotten a working gingerbread ROM, from here:
http://meticulus-development.com/index.php/galaxy-player-5-0-2/galaxy-player-5-0-stock-roms/
(irritating finding the download link among all the malware bull**** and "windows support" popups, it required registering for 4shared, but a throwaway email works)
The recovery is still a native samsung android 3e, and it took me a while to figure out that the "select" key wasn't the power button, but the home softkey... That might have been true of the last one I had flashed, the one that bootlooped, maybe I could have wiped... anyway. I've got a working gingerbread GP5.0 I can give my daughter (if I can avoid the temptation of putting cwm and then cm11 on it).

Hmmm, I think the US/Intl might not be super important, since all you really want is to get a working recovery on there. I got one of those GB roms on, then was able to flash cwm. I don't think you need to be able to use the rom, but installing it make odin able to flash cwm. Once cwm was on I installed the cm11 xip and all is good.
Good luck with yours.

If the stock recovery is not working try flashing a CWM recovery for the GB ROMS.
For the Intl Player with the hardware button this one should work
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1414565
You need the Odin file to flash then recovery should work.
Do a cache wipe, factory data reset, and wipe the Dalvik cache.

[Q] trying to install stock OS for my Samsung Galaxy Light

I want to install stock OS for my Samsung Galaxy Light, but the system partition has been formatted. I can boot into Team Win Recovery Project, and I've downloaded the stock image tar.md5 file. Can Team Win restore OS from a tar.md5 file? Would ODIN work when Team Win Recovery Project is installed?

Hi, all! I'm having an issue with reformatting my girlfriend's SGH-T399. Hoping someone here can help.
Basically, her story is the phone tried to auto-update OTA and got stuck on "Upgrading apps (4/4)". Now, when rebooting, the phone is stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy Light" logo screen.
The phone can boot into download mode, but can't boot into recovery (goes straight to download) which makes me think somehow the recovery partition was corrupted or some such issue. I've tried re-installing the stock firmware through Odin, but Odin always gets stuck on "Initializing", which is another problem I can't seem to find a fix for. I've also tried using Kies, but Kies always gets stuck at 0% when trying to upgrade the phone's firmware.
To be clear, I can get Odin and Kies to recognize the phone and start the formatting process, but neither progresses at all once the process actually begins. We'd be happy with getting stock firmware back, or with installing a custom rom such as LightWave, CM, anything. This is her only phone and we really need to get it up and running again. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks in advance!!

Hi this happened on my device too. Pretty much the same thing except I have sgh t399n. To fix flash TWRP through Odin as you did the first time, here https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95916177934519351 and then flash any ROM. You could flash lightwave or CyanogenMod. If you had a backup use it. I downloaded someone else's backup but I can't find any backup for T-Mobile so just flash a ROM after flashing twrp.

Wait but Odin doesn't work completely or just doesn't work with TWRP. Do you have it as run as administrator. Right click the Odin file then click run as administrator and allow. If that doesn't work do you have the Samsung drivers? And last do you have windows or mac?

Odin has not worked for any package I've tried thus far. It always gets stuck on "Initializing". I am running as an administrator. As far as I know, all my samsung drivers are up to date. I'm running Windows 7 and both Windows and Odin recognize the device. I've tried this on 2 separate Win 7 pcs, so I don't believe the issue is with my setup but rather with the phone itself.

Hey, AcreaperJB. That's the first guide I tried to follow. Like I said before, Odin works fine until "Initialization" at which point no other messages appear and Odin simply hangs. I've let it sit there for over an hour and there's no change.

Its .zip not .tar.md5 so its a little different but you still extract it but don't rename.
