Is there anything I need to bear in mind? Any emmc bugs or anything which the galaxy note has?
Thanks
Just make sure:
1. Nandroid backup immediately after flashing CWM recovery
2. EFS folder backup. A few guides floating about, EFS Backup Pro will help sort it
3. Search, read instructions/faq's and follow the guides.
Some custom ROMs & kernels will back this up (and save to internal storage/sdcard) when flashed. But still suggest to do this befrore flashing anthing apart from root or CWM recovery
++ Important to keep multiple copies about, and also on your PC for safe keeping.

Ok a few basic questions if someone would be so kind! :
- Can Nandroid and more specifically creating a backup image of the phone only be done *after* rooting?
- Would any backup image therefore include the rooted "state" of the phone if reapplied?
- By rooting the phone does the warranty through Orange become invalid?
Ta,
~ Temjin
1. No, it can be done before.
2. Yes reapplying a rooted image will get you root
3. Don't know!
Hi Kadison,
In which case would you be so kind as to tell me how to create a backup image without rooting / point me in the right direction for more information please?
Thanks!
Go to Modaco's site, follow the instructions to the letter and you'll then be able to boot your phone into the recovery image, and perform a nandroid backup.
The backup will be stored on your SD card and can be moved to your PC.
Awesome, thanks
Hi another question from a different newbie. If I back up using Nandroid, apply another ROM (with wipe), does Nandroid then let me restore all my apps or will it restore the whole previous ROM?

My understanding is Nandroid will restore whatever ROM it was used to generate a backup.
Thanks for that. Another noobie question though, what happens to apps I've bought etc if I flash a new ROM?
Thanks
I've done all the relavent forum searches and read through anything google would throw up on Nandroid (most related to G1). I would like to do a backup of my non-rooted G2 before loading other ROMS.
I have read through here:
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...and-your-orange-t-mo-etc-device-via-nandroid/
and here:
http://android.modaco.com/content/h...ed-recovery-image-on-your-device-permanently/
but cannot quite work out when any update is temporary allowing you to do a Nandroid backup of the origional ROM and which command/step is the part where you would do the backup.
I feel like a total noob but I just want to be sure.
Thanks

Install flashrec, flash your recovery image, and from there you can backup and restore with nandroid. Hope this is what you were after.
I have an unlocked and rooted Samsung Galaxy S2. I installed MIUI and am now experimenting with different kernels.
Is there a way to backup and restore the kernel only, rather than doing a full nandroid backup and restore? I searched all over the web and all I could find was this advice to:
"just grab the boot.img and contents of /system/lib/modules from your rom zip and make your own update.zip."
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1059412.html
But I found no comment confirming it actually does work. There is a kernel flasher app that's supposed to backup and restore kernels, but it only works on the Galaxy S (not the S2).
Thoughts?
Thanks!
Hi all !
if i restore nand backup from another phone on my phone + restore my orgininal EFS folder does it mean my phone will work perfectly without any surprise ????
thanks a lot

totally not recommended. you could be coming from different android version, or even if same version, different manufacturers may have different setup.
if you feel adventurous, you can try just reinstalling the "data" portion though, that is where your installed apps are placed. but be warned it also contains some previous system settings which may not be compatible with sgs3.
better alternative is to install Titanium backup, it has function to read from nandroid backups so you can pick and choose what you want to extract from there.
First of all this is the wrong section to post this, go to the q&a section instead.
If the other phone was not the same exact model of phone then DO NOT restore the nandroid. Like the other commenter mentioned you can use titanium backup to save and restore apps or even use it to extract the apps from the nandroid.
Hi all,
I remember my first Froyo rom on my GS1 was provided as a nandroid package..
Questions go in the Q/A section
Fyi, nandroid doesn't touch the EFS partition or the bootloaders, or radio, just the system, data, cache and boot (kernel) partitions.
You *can* restore another person's nandroid onto your phone, but its really not a good idea (someone shipped roms as nandroids for a bit...), and you shouldn't need to touch the EFS unless something goes wrong, and a rom should never touch the EFS.
Edit: As people above say, don't restore a nandroid from another model of phone onto your device, if you want to move data from phone to phone like that use titanium backup or the like.
i want to copy a nand backup from a S3 orange 16GB onto my phone S3 SFR 32GB, because i have no solution for a "NO SMS,NO CALL BUT INTERNET WORKING" problem

Well in that case at your risk by Nand i hope you mean a CWM Nandroid recovery .
Its often best to have the same version of recovery to restore backup if first attempt fails ..
Be far simpler to flash a stock SGS3 Orange rom via Odin .

Hi guys,
Only recently did I recover my phone from a soft brick and since then; learning and living everything XDA and Android I decided to flash CyanogenMod on my phone. Loving it! Aside from the terrible Trebuchet launcher. I since downloaded all my apps and the like, flashed Philz recovery. Anyway, the following is everything I have backed up on my computer and all the files I have. Have I forgotten anything?
I am asking if you can actually read this and make sense of what I'm asking, do I have everything in case I end up screwing my phone I have everything needed? The user Darke5tShad0w was extremely helpful and he drilled it in my to backup the efs file for my S3 but I am unsure if I actually have backed that up, however there is an actual efs backup on my phone's internal memory in a folder named clockwork mod, I'm unsure though if I do in fact have a backup of the efs.

Sorry, I know it's difficult to read but I've tried to get all the information across and attempted to make it readible. Italics are folders while bold is like the root folder containing what I need.
Reason for all the stock files is in ever the case I need to restore to my last rendition of TouchWhiz, install Touchwhizz and reinstall the stock recovery.
Would it be worth doing a nandroid backup of my current CyanogenMod settings and what have you? Would the process be the same? In case I ever softbrick, wouldn't just using the Installer be enough.

Hello again.
If you did it all through philz like was said in the other thread and it didn't fail when you did it you should be sorted.
If you want to make doubly sure another app like ktool to create another efs backup.
Remember to keep a copy on your computer or somewhere else.
And yes it would be a good idea to do a nandroid backup now you have cm up and running.
