Hi,
For now I am stuck on stock GB rom.
My amaze 4G is rooted, and bootloader unlocked (S-on).
I was not able to get the OTA ICS mobilicity to install.
I need my phone to be more energy efficient. Is there a way to do this with a kernel on stock GB rom?
Or some other way?
Also with S-on, can I flash any GB rom whether it be wind, mobilicity, telus or tmobile?
Thanks in advance.

Energy Rom seemed pretty efficient on gb, others on your company have used it, so I don't think it should be a problem.

We tried upgrading him to ICS jay, remember the thread with over a 100 post? Lol Unless we get a mobilicity GB stock ruu magically somehow or my theory actually works, there's no way he can upgrade unless he s-off's the device.
By the way, there's never a wrong answer, if you have an opinion say it, that's why we're all here, to help each other.

Retried and it is going a little faster now.
I also found this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1433078
I think I like it more than the energy rom. It seems a little more complicated to install with faux kernel etc. Also there are no instructions there.
Could you give me some guidance on how to install this?
Also do I need to unlock my bootloader?

You'll need your bootloader unlocked for any rom installation or the recovery won't be able to write certain files. I'll be checking out the other rom in a minute.
Edit: The flashing of that rom is the same as any other, you wipe all partitions then flash the rom, faux kernel is OPTIONAL, you don't have to flash it, but it seems it's a part of the rom, once you're using 4EXT recovery, it's gonna flash the kernel for you, just make sure you make a nandroid backup of your current set up so if the flashing fails, you can always wipe and restore your old system so that you don't end up with an expensive paper weight, always remember to have a backup.

I can do a nandroid back with rom manager?
Does full wipe actually wipes everything including the OS from the phone?
Should I use Hasoons tool to flash the EXT recovery?

Yes, use hasoon's tool and get 4EXT, do the nandroid backup on 4EXT using the backup/restore option, don't use rom manager and yes a full wipe formats all the partitions leaving nothing on the device system partition, you can find that in the format options. Just be sure to flash the new rom before rebooting.

Nope, wipe all except sd, you did have the rom on your sd card right?
Once wiping, select install from sd card, choose the rom file and let it do it's magic.

There is no option for "wipe all except sd".
I see "wipe data/factory reset" . Clicking that it asks "wipe data, cache and sd-ext partition?". I have two options yes or no.
Seems it is goign to wipe my sd card.
The rom is on my sd card.

Okay, I have read a lot of threads to try to understand the whole rooting process. Say I'm starting with a fresh 1.5 stock phone. Would this be the process?
1. install the all-in-one auto root script by grdlock
2. do a nand backup??? (still not sure about this part)
3. then flash whatever custom 2.1 rooted rom???
thanks in advance, and sorry if im no where close to being right.

Okay great. I also read about having to "wipe" while switching out custom roms. So you just can't boot from the recovery, then reflash a custom rom i take it? please explain the wiping; that part is about the only one i'm still sketchy on.

You'll see exactly what wiping means when you flash Amon RA's recovery image. To the best of my knowledge and to simplify it for you, it sets the phone back to basically stock like when you programmed it at the store when you bought it. Allowing the ROM you install to do its thing, so to speak.
You'll want to do this in between switching from one rom to another.
Hope this helps, good luck.

No, you will see the option and you have to select it. Its not automatic. Everything will become clear when you install it and finally see the image. Its all laid out for you, and very user friendly.

Make sure you are running the 2.42 radio, flash the custom CFS kernel, download a cool CM6 theme for the phone, and have fun.
Oh and make sure you make a backup in Amon RA of your current ROM if you need to do any programming or whatever.

i wouldnt recommmend messing with your kernal, its not neccessary, most roms are up to snuff on the kernal & ready to flash...my only advice is there are alot of roms out there and to just try em out and find which one you like, everyone is differnt and has different prefrences.

Agreed with the proviso that if you are having problems and wipe wipe wipe wipe dalvik wipe wipe wipe dalvik wipe reflash or whatever combination is not working and you have verified fixes in your thread (See Kaosfroyo v33) take the leap. Its not hard its just like flashing another rom.
I do not think anyone is paying attention to the original question. This person is asking about the steps to root the phone. Putting ROMs on a phone is not the hard part.

You might want to take a look at the forum 'thefuzz4.net' under the heading Android/Eris. There is a topic which goes into detail on 'How to root your Eris'. And will give a pretty good start. If you do use this guide you may want to stop at section IV and use a ROM other than the ones the guide outlines. Be sure you check the md5 checksums for ALL files downloaded. Hope this helps.
Cheers

It's just rooting your phone. Don't use Clockwork but use Amon Ra, which is available with the one click root method. It's real easy.
I just want to root my phone and still have the stock rom. I am using the HTC amaze aio kit and was wondering if flashing stock kernels/recoveries mattered?
Right now my options are for recoveries: Stock or TWRP 2.0.0
Kernels : Faux 0.0.0 or Stock
Will it matter which ones i flash. I just want to remove some useless stock apps and maybe install a few root only apps. Also i will be applying different skins/themes for design.
As long as you are HTCdev unlocked.. Twerp will work fine.. It is step by step in the aio thread.

Mostly i think this option is if you are going back to stock fully. I found a file that resets the phone fully thru bootloader so no need for it.

So I was trying to update my old energy ROM to ICS and I'm kind of hosed. Got instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1362759
Basically:
- Root your device
- Install a custom recovery
- Install the downloaded ROM .zip found in post #3
- Make sure to do a Factory Reset / Wipe before installing ROM
For the record, these steps are out of order. Steps 4 and 3 are switched and I didn't notice till it was to late. What I did next was do the factory reset and then try to re-install the ROM. Everything seemed to go fine until it was time for a reboot. Then it froze on the HTC logo.
Could use some ideas as to what my next move should be. Since it was a previous version of Energy ROM + Faux kernel, phone is definitely rooted, etc. Perhaps I should start over with a stock Gingerbread ROM?

Apparently I am also supposed to flash the kernel as per this thread which I've finally found:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1645641
In order to find it, I had to search for it using Google as this forum software is so haphazard. Also not mentioned in the instructions. Will try this next if I can get at it through just the custom recovery.
Still wrong. Coming from GB and going to ICS you need to flash the ICS RUU in bootloader. I don't know how many times its been mentioned or how many other threads have been started because of this issue.

First im not resbonsible for anything that can happen to your phone this what i do if it didnt work im not resbonsible.
If you are rooted via HTCDev S-On Hboot 1.490018 and up you need to Run a command prompt and flash the boot.IMG that comes with the ROM (if not included extract the ROM and search for its in the .Zip file then move that file into a folder in the Root lf ur C Drive put your phone into fastboot mode (remove battery then put it back then press lock/on button and the volume up button at the same time) then connect it to your PC and run command prompt press on start and search for cmd then run it and type the following :
Cd c:\android (or whatever you named the folder)
After that type:
Fastboot flash boot boot.IMG
After its done unplug your phone from ur PC reboot it and it should work perfectly (it may stay at the HTC Logo for 10-20 minutes)
HOPE IT WORKS ENJOY!

I don't want to put down energy rom, but it hasn't been updated since the original leak, and the instructions were never clarified - he simply never explained the PROPER way to switch from gingerbread to ICS. ARHD gives a better explanation, but I think post #2 in the everything ICS thread gives the best and links to everything you should need..
You have to be careful anytime you are switching to a totally new OS. All the devices I know, switching from 2.1 to 2.2, or 2.2 to 2.3.. or to 4.0+.. it is USUALLY not just a "flash over the old OS".. just something to keep in mind for any of your other or future devices..

Well as far as I know, it ain't like he is getting paid much so it would seem to be a miracle if any of this stuff gets updated. ;-) If I don't have this figured out by Tuesday, I'll use it as an excuse to get a new phone. This one has a crack or two in the screen anyways.
Still, even so I would MUCH rather get this one working again. 'specially since I'm between software gigs & cash is tight. If Energy ROM hasn't been updated and there's a better and/or more complete set of instructions maybe I should be looking at something else. Will continue hunting through these forums for info but can use all the help I can get since this forum software ain't exactly friendly. Probably best to see if I can get it back to stock on ICS and then work forward from there. Having said that, I have an RUU that I am working with, its: PH85IMG_RUBY_ICS_35_S_TMOUS_2.14.531.3_Radio_1.14.550L.17DC_30.78.550L.15_release_259626_signed.zip
Tried just flashing it but apparently there's more to it than that.
Latest problem is that I can't get it re-locked without enabling USB debugging. Can't do this since I don't have a working OS. Can it be done from CLI or recovery?
Uh.... hmmm... mysterious. Seems to have fixed itself. Will try a restart and see what happens.

I was saying that there are some other options, other roms, that have better instructions and have been updated fairly well.. that is all.
The thread I was talking about by glacierguy is here - it links to tons of resources and should answer most questions you may come up with. For example it has "Relock phone (fastboot oem lock)" you can issue fastboot commands while your phone is booted into the bootloader - so this has nothing to do with usb debugging..
There is tons of information here, I know it isn't absolutely organized, but there are a lot of guys here who tried to make the information as easy to find as possible..
Did u try to restart it again it usually takes a couple of times but anyway should either return to stock or use the RUU for the ICS ROM

If you're.gonna flash that last file you mentioned, you need to rename it to PH85IMG, since its a stock ruu and not just a flashable Rom.
Sent from an Amaaaaaazing place :-D
Woohoo! I've succeeded in getting the aforementioned RUU installed. Should be much less of a problem from here forward.

Of course you are responsible. Heaven forbid anyone should take responsibility for their own actions or anything crazy like that.
Since English may not be your first language, I'll be clear. I'm just kidding.

Now that I have the RUU, could use some examples of projects that are more up-to-date so that I can move forward.

If you want cutting edge(these both have features no other rom has added yet, and are very current update wise) and like the senseui, try remix's http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673609 or if you want with less sense and more of an aosp-ish feel go for his http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1623184
ARHD is what is being used for the base for many roms because it is solid and bugless, energy has more features that he had included in his gingerbread rom.. I've heard good things about capromce, but I have no idea what features he has added that are or aren't included in the others..
Heheheh and its not my first language thats why you might see a lot of grammar and/or writen mistakes, just for the futur before you flash any new ROM Back-Up you current or the original ROM just in case something like this happen so you can restsore it without worrying and hope i helped

Righteous! Up and running on Speed ROM 4.0. Thanks so much to everyone who collaborated. Copious mashing of the Thanks button.
Hello all
I have searched all over but have not found any similar problems.
I rooted my phone and installed CWM and would like to install a custom rom that exists for Gingerbread 2.3.6 (I flashed back to stock OS), I have found the rom that I seem to like a lot (Atomic rom) however when I put the .zip file into my external sd and use rom manager to install the rom it turns off, then the phone boots back up... Any ideas about what is happening? Maybe I do not have everything rom manager needs?
I am definitely not ready to flash the new rom using odin, unless you put the .zip file into PDA section and hit "Start" when the phone is in download mode... from the forums I read it is not as easy as installing the stock OS
Thanks in advance!

you leave so many questions unanswered here. you have provided some information here, but not the vital info and the last part is very confusing.
im sorry, I know you are new here, but you lead me to ask some very generic questions....................
are you in the right forum for the right phone? this is for the Note1
I only ask this because I cant even find any GB ROMS for this phone. the Note 1 has been updated to official JB. I would and I am sure you would hate to flash wrong files to wrong phone and wind up with a BRICK.
I am not trying to make it sound as if you don't even know what phone you have, but you would not be the first to flash wrong and kill your phone.
may I suggest you read up in the "Super Everything Thread", which is in the General Forum. you will find exactly that, EVERYTHING, there. Odin is no big deal and super easy to use. also most don't even use CWM or ROM MANAGER anymore. TWRP is now the RECOVERY of choice and much more user friendly.
there are also many YOUTUBE tutorals that can walk you through. but first, lets make sure you are in the right place.
your phone is a ???????? NOTE 1
you carrier is ?????? att, tmo, ver, sprint
it is presently running ??????? GB, ICS, JB
good luck and let us know if we help

Sorry about that... I have the Samsung Galaxy Note i717 for AT&T and I am running Gingerbread 2.3.6
I thought that if a rom could run on GB it could run on any phone that has GB but your response has lead me to know that it also depends on what phone I'm running, so thanks!
I'll go and double check to see if the rom I tried to install was for the note... I guess I'm lucky I didn't brick my phone when I tried flashing the other 2 rome xD... Gonna count my blessings tonight lol

don't need to apologize to me for anything. the more information the better. not only are there so many phones out there, there are variations of those phones that have gotten people in trouble.
you have the North American version
International version
Korean version
different internals and wont all take same ROM. just be careful my friend.

I am looking into this rom, looks pretty interesting. Flashing the "AT&T fix" though, do I put that on my SD card also?
Update: For some reason I can not install rome
I am not sure what I am doing wrong because I have Rom manager do everything when I put the .zip file on my SD card and the phone restarts like normal, I even tried doing it manually in cwm recovery. I have no idea what I am doing wrong. And this rom I know for sure is meant for GB and the i717.
Any suggestions? Thanks again
You mean it's a gb rom meant for the i717 galaxy note....... I think you may be a little mixed up on what a rom is and what your actually doing...... Explain in detail what exact steps your doing when your flashing the rom so someone can help you.

I appreciate your patience
Step 1: I put the downloaded .zip rom (saurom) into my external sd card in a special folder I named Roms
Step 2: I fire up Rom manager and go to "Install ROM from SD Card"
Step 3: Go to folder containing the Saurom .zip file and select it
Step 4: Make sure "Backup Existing Rom" and "Wipe Data and Cache" are selected
Step 5: Hit "Reboot And Install"
The phone will then turn off and restart like normal, I check but the rom did not install. I honestly have no idea how I'm screwing up lol
Do you have a custom recovery installed....

You have to understand this as well, the ROMS do not install in conjunction or within the current Stock ROM. They replace them. So as stated above you have to make sure you have CWM or TWRP installed and boot directly to the custom recovery. Then wipe your data/system/cache/dalvik and after all of that install the ROM of choice.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1525341
The very first thing listed in this topic is how to install Saurom. No where does it say to try and do it through ROM Manager.
Maybe that is where your hiccup is coming from?
No further instructions needed good luck and happy flashing

Alright so I forgot that I had to wipe the data/system / cache / dalvik
But even when I tried that just now and went into installing the .zip file it said that the installation failed, is it because cwm was removed when I wiped the device?
Update your recovery to twrp 2.6

What would updating the recovery do?
Gets rid of status 7 error that makes it unable to flash.

haha, only problem is that the rom hit an error anyways so I'm still lost at what I am doing wrong...
Another question, when I reset all of the settings and stuff before I flash the rom, wouldn't that get rid of titanium back up? then how would I restore my apps and data?
Yes you are right... But first stick your phone in the freezer for 2hrs...then microwave it for 3 mins... It will cause your recovery to reconstruct and see your internal storage enabling developer options to be on... Then hit the rom installer button.
