Cmon people i need your help

I would just use Bills wipe all and then follow the directions to the letter on how to install. Each rom can have very different install processes.

I've had this problem whenever I try to download a ROM to the computer and transfer it to the phone. I always have to download straight to the phone. Other than that, maybe bad download?

Ok...installation (bad) was that at one point, you had a PARTIAL of the rom transfer. This may have been because you unplugged the usb cable right after you chose unmount. Need to let it get back to the options before you disconnect phone.
What you need to do is clear this error before you can flash the rom...else CWM borks and continues to give you that error regardless. Go to advanced. Choose Report Error. Then Choose Show Log. Then Reboot Reovery.
I would recommend transferring the rom to your phone from PC while in CWM. Unmount , then to check to make sure you got it all, unplug phone, then plug it back in, mount USB again and verify file size on your sdcard that it is the right size.
THEN flash the rom

Error when installing G_Harmony_Gingerbreadv2.2.zip (4/6 update)

I followed this sequence:
1. Installed CWM (ClockworkMod_Gtab_v08)
2. Tried to install G_Harmony_Gingerbreadv2.2.zip (4/6 update)
Got this error:
...
Copying files...
E: can't symlink /system/bin/sh
E: failure at Line 3:
symlink ash SYSTEM:bin/sh
Installation aborted
Finally restored from the backup... anybody else got this error or has any ideas on what is next?
Try again? Sometimes it takes a couple of tries - someone else I know had the same problem and it worked on his second attempt.
You could try formatting, wiping data and cache, and wiping your davlik cache.
OK, managed to reproduce this - you'll need to format system, then format data, then wipe data/factory reset. Then, try installing again.

Thanks, did the following:
1. Format System
2. Format Data
3. Wiped Data/Factory Reset
Tried installing the G_Harmony_Gingerbreadv2.2.zip (4/6 update), it installed, then I tried to immediately reboot and it is stuck in the ViewSonic logo screen (for 10 mins then I rebooted again)
Next tried this:
1. Format System
2. Format Data
3. Wiped Data/Factory Reset
4. Wiped Cache
5. Wiped davlik cache
Tried installing the G_Harmony_Gingerbreadv2.2.zip (4/6 update), same thing again it is stuck in the ViewSonic logo screen on reboot.
Anything else I can try?
Hmmm, I've done this twice now, without a problem. I did the same 5 steps as you posted, then installed G-Harmony, but I also installed the GAPPS.zip before rebooting.
One thing you might try - do the three wipes again after you've completed the install.

Just to check if things exactly equal,
I have rooted with CWM Recovery v2.5.1.1-bekit-0.8
also I am using the version of ROM that was loaded 4/6
Did you use exactly these two. Let me again try what you suggested and report here.
try flashing the latest kernel after u flash the rom
http://droidbasement.com/db-blog/
and make sure u do Wiped Data/Factory Reset, Wiped Cache, Wiped davlik cache before and after you flash it

Yes. The only thing I did differently was to install the GAPPS.zip and do the Wipe Data/Factory Reset, Wipe Cache, and Wipe Davlik cache after the install was complete, but before rebooting.

[Q] SU binary outdated

I was unlocked and rooted, but still on the stock rom.
I finally got around to installing the Alien rom and I was greeted with this message after install.
When I go to update it force closes. Its showing 3.0-beta2 as the latest version but force closes when it goes to check installed version.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you havent already done this....
Go into rom manager and run fix permissions. This can be done with Romracers CWM as well. Give that a shot and try it again.
Edit: Also did you do the full wipe routine before and after the alien rom install? Even though the ROM says its a full wipe, still do it manually before and after.
Hmm, I hadn't opened up ROM manager since this change.
It says "You must root your phone for ROM Manager to function. Superuser was not found at "/system/bin/su" or "/system/xbin/su"
As far as the wipe, I did the full wipe prior, but wasn't aware of needing to do it after. So I need to wipe Dalvik Cache and Cache Partition again?
EDIT: And of course, I can't get into Recovery Mode either. If I try to root my phone again, it says the file all ready exists?
Yes, something didnt take.
1 Wipe data/factory reset
2 Wipe cache
3 Wipe Dalvik
4 Install ROM
5 Wipe data/factory reset
6 Wipe Cache
7 Wipe Dalvik
8 Reboot
So if you reboot holding down on the volume and go into recovery it doesnt do anything?
what recovery did you use to install Alien initially? Romracers,

All right, I appreciate it. But maybe a stupid question, but since I can't get into recovery mode how do I go about doing this?
EDIT: Sorry, you got me on the edit. I wasn't thinking to go through recovery via the volume key. I was trying to go through the system recovery app. As far as which recovery I used Tenfar's Bootstrap, which reading looks like I probably shouldn't have. Thanks for your help, hopefully this will cure everything.
You are going to have to use fastboot and flash the recovery image again.
Go here--->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204500
Ya once we got our bootloaders unlocked Tenfars CWM became obsolete. Just pick your favorite color from the link i posted and flash with fastboot.
Thats why you got an error, tenfars wont properly flash a rom.
Just follow that wipe routine after every rom you flash. Before and after flash

[Q] "Can't mount /dev/block/vold/179:9"

I was attempting to flash clockworkmod and I am now stuck in recovery. Attempting to reboot does nothing, I did a factory reset. Applying update.zip just gives me the error in the title of this thread, plus "can't mount update.zip"
I see this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=782204 as a last option but is there anything else I can do? If I remove my sd card and put a new update.zip on it manually, will this fix the problem?
ok a few things first.
1)which CWM did you install?
2)Which Rom are you trying to install?
if you have the rom on your sd card simply factory rest, wipe cache, and dalvik cash......
then without rebooting flash zip from sdcard [navigate to and flash your rom]
then reboot.
you shouldn't need the apply update zip
if that doesn't work odin a stock image and start all over again

I'm not sure which version, the file only says "cwmrecovery.tar"
I'm trying to install CyanogenMod 7.1
Can you explain a little more regarding wiping cache and dalvik cache, and also how to flash the rom without using any application. I only have access to "reboot system now", "apply sdcard:update.zip", "wipe data/factory reset" and "wipe cache partition" as of right now
EDIT: Clockworkmod recovery is not functioning, if that was not clear.
Follow this guide for installing mtd roms such as cm7, aosp, miui...Just replace vgb rom with cm7.

[ISSUE/WORKAROUND]Strange Problem while flashing a ROM from CWM Recovery

I'm currently getting strange issue while flashing ROM from CWM recovery and in process of finding solution for the same. Meanwhile, I thought it would be better to create a thread so that anyone else who has same issue as me will find it useful or someone who has solution can guide me.
Phone Details
S2 with 32GB Class 4 memory card
Issue Description/Repro Steps
Issue started when I moved from CheckROM v6(GB-Siyah 2.6.1) to I9100DXLP9 (4.0.3).
Steps:
1) Flashed DXLP9 through ODIN(went smoothly), rooted with CF root v5.4 given in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1544487 thread.
2) Used Triangle away to reset binary counter
3) Rebooted in recovery, wiped data/cache/dalvik cache, now while wiping dalvik cache I got an error E:unknown volume for path [/sd-ext], but dalvik cache got wiped.
4) Now flashed Foxhound ICS ROM and rebooted.
5) Bootloop
6) Again repeated Steps 1-3
7) Now flashed Hydrogen ICS 4.0.4 and reboored..still bootloop
8) went to download mode, Repeated steps 1-3 again
9) Now, decided to investigate this issue little in detail and noticed that while wiping data partition through CWM was giving this error:
Failed to mount /data/.android_secure
So, this was the culprit, if data partition isn't getting wiped that means CWM is not able to write on it either but ODIN is
10) So, to experiment flashed Hydrogen ICS through CWM -> rebooted phone -> checked that bootloop was still there -> put phone in download mode and Flashed Siyah 3.1.2
11) Voila!!!! phone booted successfully with Hydrogen ICS ROM, also strangely binary counter was not increased
But Step 11 is still a workaround for ROM flashing issue, I still need to flash kernel separately after flashing ROM.
Any suggestions/questions are most welcome
Hoping to resolve this issue soon!!!
Try this:
1 Wipe data, wipe cache, wipe dalvik,
2 Install from sd card in CWM this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1363738.
3 Install the rom.
You may have to format /system by going under "mount and storage"

Hmm..this kernel cleaner seems interesting..will try it out and let you know results
@htmltiger

Reflash a CWM and Root Kernel should have been the next step
same problem format cache system and data
.and factory reset

Already tried those steps..still result is same.
I'm beginning to think that somehow data partition has become corrupt(same like Siyah rc6 issue) and it can only be flashed via ODIN. Still, mystery is how my binary counter is not getting increased when I Flash kernel via odin

[Q] Flashing Rom

Hey,
I tried to flash this Rom : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2208126
I Followed the guide :
FROM AOSP
MAKE A NANDROID
wipe data/factory reset in recovery
wipe /system
flash ROM
flash Gapps
reboot
let phone sit for approximately 10 minutes
reboot
enjoy!
I didn't find in the recovery "wipe system" so i skipped this step and flashed rom... The flashing failed ...
Why did it fail??? : (
Write now i have Ics Passion v13 with 3.1.10-ICS Passion Kernel and i really want to find a good rom with good GPS....

In recovery mode go to mounts and storage then format system.

Curious as to your error message, failure to "wipe system" usually shows after, with fc's and system shutdowns.
