Android 4.0.4 Update - Sony Tablet S

Hi guys,
I know that we have just gotten ICS, but do you think we would receive 4.0.4 at some stage as it does have some improvements to stability of the platform aswell as better camera performance and screen rotation?
To much to ask for perhaps?
Thanks!

Not sure about 4.0.4 but Germany and Italy 3G models have received a revision of 4.0.3. This was due to 3G issues. Not sure if anything else has been changed. Apparntly 5.0 aka Jelly Bean in general is due out near the end of the year. So would be ages away for SONY Tabs lol

We need 4.0.4 because .3 is buggy. But I don't think we will see it.

Jelly Bean will be Android 4.1 (or at least thats what media says in Spain) and I think It´ll be presented at the end of June (When google will show its Nexus Tablet)
I hope Sony wil bring Jelly Bean to our tabs because ICS doesn´t work really fine....
Also Spanish 3G Sony Tablets S received ICS 4.0.3 R2

Sony tablet will release 4.0.4 somewere end of this year but i think it would be "Probaly" next year, and even if jelly bean 4.1 will be launched it will take too long after launch to recieve the update, by then, you need a other tablet

Lol my bad, thought a change in name would increment to 5.0, but derr 2.1 Eclair, 2.2 Froyo, and 2.3 Gingerbread. HAHAHA oops
Correct Spain has same update as Italy.

as of today Jellybean 4.1 had been confirmed. It will be out this year for the Nexus devices. Hopefully that means this tablet can do it too... To Sony's credit, this was hardly the last tablet to get ics, so maybe we can hope for a quick turnover to 4.1 !

i have been waiting for jelly bean.

Soy was not that slow to upgrade to ICS. Not many has released that at all.

[Q] Jelly Bean guesses

Anyone want to guess as to when/if we'll get this update?
Never.
Edit: In before the lock...
I opened one of these threads the day it was announced, it was closed. I'm sure the mods will close this one as well.
guessing like ... how Asus tf700 will be released around the end of year to find out mid next month
If the first Transformer got ICS, I sure would hope the Transformer Prime gets Jelly Bean.
The update for the Nexus S, Galaxy Nexus and the Xoom is coming mid-July. I assume that Asus already as a copy of Jelly Bean since it build the Nexus 7. They should be already working on it for the Tf700, Tf300 and the Tf201. I assume sometime in late July or August.
Soon (optimistic guess)

That's what I was thinking. Excluding the keyboard, our device is identical to the Nexus 7 plus one addition camera and a microSD card slot. It shouldn't be too hard. Plus, with Google supervising the firmware, maybe they worked out all those weird driver glitches from Nvidia.
Give me some sweet Jelly Bean 4.1 to beta test please.
Jelly Bean is available if you can build a rom http://developer.android.com/index.html
Edit: I assumed that http://source.android.com/index.html would have been updated to reflect the new developer site
It'll probably take few month before Prime receives Jellybean.
Remember, we still have another "update" that's being tested by beta testers and that's not even Android 4.04 I believe (I could be wrong). Although, the good news ... or think is good news is that.. Gary expected different "beta" testing update but didn't get it... thus, Asus is possibly switching their resource into Jellybean update for current products. But yea... just because Xoom is receiving Jellybean in mid-July doesn't mean Asus products will.....
As for Jellybean open source, it won't be released til mid-July.
Speaking of which.. it is interesting to note that Jellybean is still on Linux kernel 2.6.29 instead of Linux 3+.... disappointing.
jellybean dual booted with Ubuntu working 100% would be A.W.E.S.O.M.E.

Is it really? I thought for sure it'd be on 3.0. Isn't the Galaxy Nexus using 3?
Yup, Jellybean SDK is on Linux kernel 2.6.29
We will probably get it around or when the Infinity 700 gets it.. don't expect it before that releases stateside at least I'm not

Yes my LTE is on 3.0.8 on stock IMM76K... most tabs are still on 2.6 though
If i'm correct, Jelly Bean will first be exclusive to Nexus 7 for a certain period before they can release it to their tablet. Like before (Gingerbread and Ice Cream Sandwich).
I hope the 'buttery smooth' project has actually really fixed the lags at random point.
I would rather see Asus release a stable and properly functioning version of ICS, instead of another half-assed attempt at a new version of the OS. I don't need the newest version number, I need a functional tablet.
Unless they give us 4.0.4 really soon, which I doubt since none of the beta testers have said there was a change, expect the same 4.0.3 IML74K build with just tweaks ("fixes") until they decide to push 4.1 to us.

right now, im so enjoying androwooks 2.0 rom
It may be simpler for Asus to work from a better base i.e. Jelly Bean, to deliver that outcome. Lets hope that given the Nexus 7 runs a Tegra 3 processor Transformer Prime owners won't be too far behind!!

[U] 6.1.1.B.1.10 version firmware

I just saw this on PTCRB. 6.1.1.B.1.10 version firmware certified for the Xperia U (ST25i).
Could this be a Jelly Bean update? Because another ICS update would be 6.1.B... NOT 6.1.1.B
Suggestions?
p.s.: Still waiting for ICS.
This just means we could not root our phone with locked BL.

As post above, it might be ics because it will be released in October

Yeah, but strangely enough the same firmware has been certified for the Xperia P as well (already has ICS, firmwarenumber 6.1.B.0.544
So maybe it is Jelly Bean?

I think that it is a Jelly Bean release.
But remember that even though it has been tested by ptcrb, is there no guarantee that this build is going to get released.
So even though a Jelly Bean release may be undergoing testing at the moment, could the next release be a ICS or even a GB release.
Sony (nor any other company) would release the latest OS to their entry level handsets and ignore their flagship models, That's a REALLY bad plan for keeping your customers happy....
You can bet the Jellybean will rollout will happen simultaneously (very unlikely)
Or...
High end: Xperia T/S/SL/AcroHD
Followed by Mid Range: Xperia P
Finally Entry Level: Xperia U
Xperia P, U, go and sola
Well it's being prepared for a number handsets:
http://www.xperiablog.net/2012/09/2...tified-for-xperia-p-u-go-and-sola/#more-10186
I doubt it's JB - Sony has not mentioned it, what manufacturer does that? They said ICS is incoming...though I agree with others - perhaps it is JB but to be released much later?
I had a 2010 and 2011 Sony device. The 2011 Sony device had a slight delay to ICS - which was eventually 4.04 I think - it was an improvement on the ICS they had already released for other 2011 devices - they fixed bugs. So perhaps our round of devices will get the updated, bug-fixed version of ICS also?

I was SOOOOOOO close to saying it's a typo - I have seen SO MANY websites makes typos on this stuff, including Sony phones, BUT this is a SONY website so it's true! Wow...
This changes things a bit then. So they have finished Jelly Bean enough to be releasing it's first phone on it, so it must be under testing for other phones? I'd imagine they'll do what they did with 2011 phones - guarantee all 2012 phones to get the next update, in this case, Jelly Bean. I hope the fact that they're working on this privately means they will make it as smooth as they can. I still can't stop thinking about O2 network in the UK NOT upgrading Sony phones to ICS "because the performance was so bad vs. Gingerbread".

Yes it could be a typo... or at least that they are missing to add that Android 4.1 will first be ready when it is done...
Same goes for the version number, that is being tested on PTCRB, but it is most likely a version, that is tested, for a later release of jellybean, for our devices.
Anyway, jellybean is worth a wait, so if we could get jellybean in a month, would I prefer that, compared to getting ics now.
It may be JB... but I don't expect it will be JB but a nearly perfect ICS firmware
edit: it is just a big ics update, got it from inside info

[Q] sony tablet s 4.1.2 update?

Recently i was searching the web for a custom rom for the sony tablet s. Which was a waste of time cause i did not find anything. What I did find is that people are saying that you can use the sony tablet s flasher tool by condi to upgrade to jelly bean 4.1.2. can some one verify this. If this is true is it prerooted, able to flash custom .zips.
4.1.2 update isnt out on any of Sony's tablet. So you cant flash it, no.

Exactly!! Condi's new tool flasher is Jelly Bean READY because it does not use the recovery to update. It writes straight to the partitions and because we have the decrypt tool (now in Windows, originally only with AIO on tablet with old recovery) we can decrypt the zip and add back-door and root etc and whatever we want (i.e apps as system) to the 'ROM' and then use Flasher

Statement on Jelly Bean Release Schedule for Sony Tablets
"We will be releasing Jelly Bean for the Xperia Tablet end of April 2013 / early May 2013 for the Xperia Tablet. This update will resolve a memory management issue that may cause the Xperia Tablet to shut down from time to time.
Currently we do not have a roadmap to release the Jelly Bean update for the 1st Generation Tablet (Sony Tablet S)."

You do know that the Sony Mobile team (which is the one behind the Tablet Z) is very good at being transparent and releasing timely updates, right? The VAIO team is not and they were the ones who did Tablet S and Xperia Tablet S. But at any rate, all manufacturers are quite bad at releasing timely updates, so it's not just Sony. That's why we should all stick to Nexus devices...

Under "The xperia tablet" im meaning the current one, the XTS. I dont care about Sony's inner misunderstandments, id like to have a Sony product, that gets treated like all the others Sony product. Otherwise there is no point of getting a Sony over any other brand out there.
Thats my point, you cant sell Porsches, release a new Porsche that is actually made from the Porsche Watches team and do nothing about it.
Its just that im disappointed with Sony's decision makings and my new tablet would never be a Sony tablet again.
Handsets are another thing, although if Sony continues to be Apple-like and release phones with non-removable batteries only, im going to switch to Samsung.
Oh well hopefully my tablet get replaced by sony xperia tablet z if you do get the option i would take it.
Least if been offered to exchange mine for tablet z.
If I can exchange this for an Xperia Tablet Z then ill be satisfied.
I will forgive sony consider sony products if they are oke, i will regardless buy playstation 4.
but thats asuming sony exchange my tablet for tablet z in the end pull through.
My trust on sony tough totaly depends how sony deals with sony xperia tablet s issue.
I think sony should give 2 options least, aka a choice between part off cash back because xperia tablet s obviously not worth much, or free upgrade to xperia tablet z with accesory's being replaced asswell for equalivants.
Honestly tough i think the best option is to just get all the xperia tablet s replaced by tabket z,
Either way if they do the first option they should unlock bootloader and root, its obvious their might not be any future updates after jelly bean.
ofcourse time will tell what will happen, i hope sony does the right thing.

PLEASE KEEP TO TOPIC
This thread is about the actual functionality of the New Jelly Bean update for the Desire X
and not whether you have it or not. Thats discussed on other threads.
I have come from Froyo on the Wildfire to the DX with ICS...well i can still do all what i have done in the past, but much better.
What improvements will JB bring to the DX. Can some one explain what we should see.
I have seen some one already explain, but it would be nice to get another point of view.
Some have issues and some dont, it confusing for us noobs:silly:
What is the hype behind it.
The reason why i am concerned is that some guys want to revert back to ICS, and thats not what it should be. JB should be an improvement.
lastly, the few hicups people have with the latest JB, could it be to an app or user related issue.

Same as you I have came from Froyo to Jelly Bean itself first of all the update was great Speed improvements were there (example is scrolling wallpapers in personalize its feels like the HTC One. Second the new software We all know Beats audio got screwed up by the OTA but HTC fixed it with anothe OTA and now bass is back This Update also enables us to test new software and to discover new things with Sense 4+ and also a feel of Jelly Bean, remember not all devices could get an update from their own manufacturers so were lucky enough to get this lol now we just need to deodex the stock JB ROM and custom ROMs would be all over the forum (I could do one now just no time to deodex the JB Stock ROM).

See it this way,
Jelly bean is the LATEST android OS (although 4.2 > 4.1) but still, the CURRENT SUPER PHONE (HTC ONE) which gives Galaxy IV a scare, was also on 4.1.2 and will get 4.2.2 in a few days. So technically, after JB update, we are having one of the most updated devices around for such money.
Think again what happens to similarly priced samsung n sony phones, (believe me, most are stuck at ICS officially forever).
ON-TOPIC:
JB Sense4+ might not be what you expect, BUT the kernel source code, and libs will enable atis112 and others to port FULLY WORKING CM10 ROMS with Project Butter.
We'll soon get kernel 3.4 source which will be a platform for YEARS to come and keep this device alive. believe me.
My cousins with xperia U/sola, galaxy duos, etc will be stuck @ ICS officially.

I said yesterday that Jelly bean is not so cool..i was stupid, its f....n awesome. Its faster than ICS, web browser and downaloading too. Right now my download speed is 2,5mb/s. With ICS it was hardly reach 1mb/s. Google Now is really good, i can search the nearest restaurent with my voice and it supports hungarian so its good for those who dont speak english (like me )

I'd like to say something on this thing since Yasir already mentioned it(sorry op kind of off-topic)
the 3.4 kernel is actually very exciting because currently barring HTC jb devices this is present on only the latest nexus devices(4, 10) only even nexus 7 is on 3.1 and Samsung devices(yes even s3) is on 3.0 .Thus we are currently on the latest version (officially not true android on 3.8 but we are one of the top few and latest currently) . Also this proves that HTC put a lot of effort (yeah was a Samsung Guy so I know what I'm talking about) thus according to me we should get 4.2 also(surity of about 83%) the real question will be if we get 5.0 or not.
PS I like the stripped down sense.
Htc One X JB kernel : 3.1
Wow, Desire X has a newer kernel, awesome.

The last time Sony VAIO released an Android update, American got it, then a few months later, so did Europe - that was Release 5 for the Sony Tablet.
However, seeing as though that is just a USA forum, in the past, ALL Xperia Tablet S updates have been released at the same time.
Eagerly awaiting the release notes. Mobile Bravia Engine, please!
I'm pretty sure that it will be a global release, we will have to wait till afternoon tomorrow here in europe!

Always has been with this Tablet.
I expect he's just saying that as he is a rep for the US.
Project Butter at last. The main thing (other than the random shutdowns) that bugs me about ICS is the 30fps animations.
60fps here we come...welcome to 2013!!! Fingers crossed for a European/UK launch!
Even if its not a UK release just yet, I'm interested to see if its different or whether they've included the new Sony Mobile launcher. Given this is 4.1.1 after all....
I was hoping for a new feature from Sony here.
If its a good release, I'll cancel my pre order.

Ooooh, interesting - not tempted by the boost in screen res/features? Or just not that fussed about shelling out £400+ within 7/8 months? Will just need to wait and see. My XTS is destined for the graveyard anyway so this will just make its passage to the next life a little more...buttery.
I do enjoy using this device, nice screen size, good processor, so if the JB release doesn't differ much to the Xperia Tablet Z, then not much point upgrading!
Besides which, the XTZ is still over a month away!
Something tells me though that Jellybean won't arrive here for quite sometime...(UK)
Oh, and i just bought a new car
Bit skint.

Fair enough then, makes sense! I am still fingers crossed for the Jelly Bean launch today but, as you say, not holding out that much hope. Since using Nova Launcher I get far fewer shutdowns etc anyway so not too fussed.
OT: What car did you get??
Who knows that if there is a 4.1 update for the sony tablet S?
I think the users of sony tablet S are forgotten.....

Sony have already announced that the original Tablet S will not be getting upgraded to Jelly Bean I am afraid.
Let's hope the post doesn't get deleted this time

Sony's not even released the release notes yet. If we don't get the update soon in the UK, at least give us the release notes!
There's no word on Sony GB's pages.
But saying that, USA hasn't 'properly' woken up yet lol

It will come out today in Portugal as they've updated the info on Sony update site. http://www.sony.pt/support/pt/product/sgpt121e1_s
Procedimento de actualização do software | 18 /04 / 2013 (Procedure of software update)
Actualização de sistema Android 4.1.1 Actualizar já (Upgrade of Android system 4.1.1 - Upgrade now)
Even tough, the link isn't working and the System update on the tablet isn't allowing to update as it says that the System is updated. It will only be a matter of hours I suppose!
Why 4.1.1 though?
Sony VAIO always seem to be one iteration behind a release. 4.0.3 instead of 4.0.4, I was looking forward to the single gesture notifications.
Not alot of new features really, certainly when you consider it has supposed to have been in development since last September. No Mobile Bravia Engine which is a shame.
DLNA Function? I thought this had DLNA?
I don't know. I stopped trying to understand them since I think they don't really know what they're doing. Nevertheless, the changelog seems a little bit narrow and is only available on GB site (Portuguese and French sites haven't) so I hope the performance enhancements have a little bit more to add to it. Are you able to download it? I'm not.

Can't download as of yet, no.
A few users in Japan on XperiaBlog report having the update. They've commented on the JB XTS thread.
Hope they've done some work on the front end UI.
