Successfully rooted Galaxy Player 4.0 YP-GB1 (Korean Version)!! - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

I wanted to post how I rooted my Samsung YP-GB1 for those that are having trouble. My galaxy is the Korean version, 16gb, 2.3.6 stock firmware, and has the KRKPC kernel.
1). Check your kernel in the about device section. It should have KRKPC in the title. Then go here to download the modified stock kernel:
(pspmaster.tistory.com/120)(your looking for build 39 at the bottom of the page).
2). Make sure the system drivers are installed, by simply connectiong to kies. Kies will install the drivers automatically when you connect your device to it. then make sure kies is closed before continuing.
3). Download odin3 and unzip and run program.
4). Make sure "Auto Reboot & "F.Reset Time" are checked. Check the box next to "PDA" and click the "PDA" button. This will allow you to locate the new downloaded kernel on you computer and load it!
5). Now before connecting your galaxy to your computer put it in download mode first. Hold the power, volume down, and home button at the same time. Once you see the downloading screen connect your device to your computer.
6). Once your device is connected, you will see a yellow box appear in the first "ID:Com" box in the odin software. You are now ready to click start!
7). Click start and let it do it's magic. The galaxy will reboot automatically after lots of text appear on the screen.
8). Then go to the "play Store" and download the "Tegrak Kernel" app. Open and scroll down to "enable rooting." Allow superuser permission and your done!
I would recommend if your new to this going to youtube and searching for "how to flash a kernel" and watch some tutorials before trying. Also, thanks to Tegrak and the developers who put so much time into making our android experience just that much better!!
Please remember I am not a developer and am not resposible if you mess your device up! I searched the forum for quite some time and asked questions before trying this, so please do the same if you feel reluctant to try!

I am very keen to root my Korean yp-gb1 32Gb device.
I would try the method suggested by the OP but in 'About device' and under 'Build number' it says "GINGERBREAD.KRKPH", which is different from the one stated.
My 'Firmware version' is 2.3.6 and the 'Kernel version' is 2.6.35.7.
I unsuccessfully tried 'superoneclick' and 'DoomLoRD's rooting programs. Then I learnt somewhere in the forums that the kernel needed flashing before this device could be rooted.
Would it be safe to try the procedure that this thread is dedicated to?
Can I get some help please?

question
may Kernel is KRKPH how can i root it

Newbie root with vodafone device

it wont let me post this in the dev forum and i did a seperate thread to the tips one to get my specific question looked at.
firstly, i believe due to it being a vodafone device, i dont get the update offered in kies which i believe is up to ke7, mine is ke1 and i cant see vodafone getting their fingers out very quickly to authorise the update. if i root it, should this then offer the update or is it only likely if i also completely unbranded it?
i dont want to flash any custom roms or anything so if the update still doesnt get offered after rooting, what other benefits would i see from rooting? what programs, inc vodafones own, could i remove?
if i do root it, i should download the unsecure .tar xwkdd even though i am currently on ke1? will i need to re-root again if/when there was any further updates such as ke8/9 etc etc?
also download odin and superoneclick and follow the guide.
to get rid of the yellow exclamation i the follow the same initiall process but use ke1 as i would have been on this if i still hadn't managed to update with kies or ke7 if i had managed to update? if i had to root first to GET that ke7 update would i root, update firmware through kies THEN reflash with ke7? OR root, reflash with ke1 THEN update? as you can see from this last paragraph, having vodafone branded phone makes it more confusing for such a newbie as i dont know what to do with that update.
please be gentle guys as i want to get the best from this phone but dont want to brick my phone and being a newbie i am very worried about getting it wrong
If you have to ask you shouldnt be doing it, but if you insist then follow the guide step by step and you cant go wrong. And if you do go wrong, insert your jig and flash away.
Also a post like this shouldnt go in the dev forum as it would get locked/deleted so you got the post in the right section.

thx mate.
surely everyone here had to start somewhere and that would have meant learning how to do it, possibly by asking questions.
as of following the guide, sorry but my question points out that i simply wanted a little extra reassurance about what rooting can help with but also what way round i would approach the update of the firmware and the rooting. i have already looked at the guide and it doesn't really have the finer points of the update built into the guide so thats why i posted.
One updates are released by Vodafone the latest is KE1 you wait for them to update .
Rooting is nothing to do with update and will void warranty .
You need to follow the instructions if you want to root
Long Guide for beginners .
Root phone then install Ke1 Kernel from post 2 ..
If you want total debrand use the debrand guide but you lose Voda update path .

Long guide (for beginners)
- Download the attached ODIN file and extract the .zip file
- Download the attached XWKDD, but do NOT extract the .tar file
- Download and extract SuperOneClick (Some say you should not be using the very latest version 1.9, but 1.5 or so)
- If you do not have Samsung's KIES 2.0 installed, download and install it. You need it to install the correct USB drivers, so the programs can communicate with the device. Reboot your computer after installation of KIES.
- Make sure your device is in USB debugging mode: Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging
- Reboot your device into download mode: Turn the device off, then power it on again by pressing and holding VolumeDown + Home + Power simultaneously. You will know when you are in download mode, it is really obvious
- Start ODIN
- Connect the device to your computer using USB
- Wait a few seconds, the ODIN screen should show you that a device is now connected
- Make sure that in ODIN NOTHING is checked, except the "Auto reboot" and "F. Reset Time" checkboxes. Press the "PDA" button, and select the "XWKDD_insecure.tar" file.
- Press "Start". ODIN you should now be flashing the kernel, and the device should reboot.
- Wait until the device is rebooted, and while still being connected over USB, start SuperOneClick, and press ROOT.
- Reboot the device
- Done !

That too!
this is en example that help u flash with odin. (Proceed at your own risk)
Step by Step Instructions:
Download the Android Firmware
Extract the downloaded file ‘I9100XXKL1_I9100OXAKL1.rar’ to get these 3 files:
CODE_I9100XXKL1_CL783870_REV02_eng_mid_ship.tar.md5
GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKL1.tar.md5
MODEM_I9100XXKL1_REV_02_CL1085162.tar.md5
Download Odin software
Disconnect your phone if it’s connected to PC. Switch Off your phone. Wait for vibration to confirm complete switch off.
Now, put the Galaxy S2 in Download Mode — press and hold these keys together: Volume_DOWN+Home+Power.
this is required to install the XXKG1 using Odin PC Software.
Open Odin (from step 3) — Odin3 v1.85.exe.
Connect your phone to PC now. You should get the message “Added! !”
under the Odin’s message box in the bottom left. If you don’t get this message,
than probably there is a problem with drivers. Make sure you’ve drivers installed.
Important! On Odin, Do NOT tick the ‘Re-Partition’ checkbox, but keep the ‘Auto Reboot’ & ‘F.
Reset Time’ checkboxes ticked. Do not touch any other checkbox or tab or anything, except as required in step 9 below.
Select these files in Odin at respective tabs (check out the screenshot given at the top for help):
Click the PDA Tab, and select CODE_I9100XXKL1_CL783870_REV02_eng_mid_ship.tar.md5 (from step 2.1)
Click the Phone Tab, and select MODEM_I9100XXKL1_REV_02_CL1085162.tar.md5 (from step 2.3)
Click the CSC Tab, and select GT-I9100-CSC-MULTI-OXAKL1.tar.md5 (from step 2.2)
Now, hit the START button to let the process begin.
When process at Odin finishes your phone will automatically reboot —
and you can unplug the cable then.
Plus, you’ll get a PASS (with green background) message in the left-most box at the very top of the Odin.
If it’s red and with FAIL written over it, the process flashing process wasn’t successful.

New to android, need help

hello guys I bought my first android fone, S3,
it was preinstalled with 4.1.1 version I updated to 4.1.2 using kies but it only changed the version, I was hoping it would format everything and would start my s3 from brand new stage but it didn't, I want to know how can I install 4.1.2 thru pc and it installs the rom from scratch and s3 should boot like its out of box.
kindly tell me step by step which files I need and how to do it.
and like I said im new to android so I have no idea what to search in this forum.
thanks.
***NOTICE***
Before doing this do a back up in the recovery menu, search Xda if you aren't sure how. I'm not liable for any bricked, whether soft or hard, devices. Only use your DEVICE SPECIFIC ROMs and/or Kernels.
***NOTICE***
First off, Google Odin, download and install it and download and install your phones drivers to your computer, search on the forum for the KERNEL SPECIFIC Stock ROM for your S3, there are TUTs on Xda here on how to find out which one is for you, now, once you have the ROM downloaded normally its in .zip format, run Odin as administrator, right click it and select run as administrator, now, plug your phone into your computer and put it into download mode, Volume +/- and power at the same time until you see a yellow triangle, now press the Volume + button to continue, after that look in Odin to make sure you have the yellow COM number, you'll know if you have it, its highlighted yellow and says "COM:4" the number doesn't matter and may be different, if you don't have the COM number then re-install your phone drivers, now, open the Stock ROM .zip file and extract it to your desktop, open Odin and click PDA,now select the .tar file for the Stock ROM and press start and Wa-La, your phone should re-boot in approximately 10 seconds if all goes well.
Hope this helps.

[Q] Unroot - Recovery Mode- Download mode

Ok
Trying to Unroot.
But today I have this giantic issue.
My recovery mode just doesnt appear anything like before.
I have tried unrooting using a Root_Remover.zip file. But I can't find at all the "install zip" menu in recovery mode I had when I had to root it first ! Now it just wont appear at all. I only have :
Reboot system Now
Apply update from external Storage
Wipe Data/Factory REset
Wipe Cache Partition
and nothing more. I even tried the second menu (apply update from ext.stor.) but im not using any external storage.
I thought "all right, Ill get through it with ODIN >>> WRONG !!!!!! No download mode ...
So right now I'm completely screwed since theres no way I can perform an unroot under such conditions.
Please someone help me out with this, sorry for being a bit too straightfoward but after 72h spent on that @#%? I find it pretty unrelevant that this ****ing menu wont show the hell up. Even though I guess Im just doing something wrong, I need help.
EDIT : All right. So I figured out most tutorials are written by incompetent people whom mostly release pseudo tutorials that are just here to show the world that they can perform this or that, but in fact, can't take a single second to make a point where you don't get access to DOWNLOAD MODE the same way on a Tab2 than with a S2 -_-. We don't enter DOWNLOAD mode the same way ... geez ... so I figured out that using the Up volume button instead of the down volume button would eventually get me there. Which it did. Come on ... how is it possible that after 15 tutorials, not ONE did mention that ?
Also, ODIN doesn't want to do @#%? right now. I browsed the right firmware, plugged my tab to my laptop ... hit START and it ends in 5 seconds after "all thread completed (0 succeed/0 failed)
I've tried multiple stock firmwares (all the same but form different locations or mirrors) and ... nothing. So ...
First, please clarify these couple of questions. What device do you have? What version of recovery do you have? And one more out of curiosity. Where did you get that root remover zip?

Most of the tutorials are written for the GT-P75xx. Being that it's also the device for the section you posted this rant in, I can see why the tutorials were not what you needed. Just my two cents but condemning the authors of the tutorials will most likely get you very little help. Not to mention this section isn't for your device.

Don't know what happened to my last reply but anyway :
All the threads I read were for Tab2 p51xx or SII.
As explained in first reply (which disappeared), I had and have my damn good reason to condemn people who spam the net with their useless blogs. Won't waste time explaining again a reason which won't certainly arent interested in. But it was costy in term of $.
That said I then realized XDA still exists so I launched a quick google search and fell on this subboard. Reading "Samsung Tab 10.1", unfortunatly didn't mean to me it is a seperated sub forum from the Samsung tab2 10.1. My bad ... do I have to get this thread transfered to the right place or admins will find it useless ?
_____________
My ROM is none. I unrooted but didn't install any ROM. After that I simply figured out I don't need one. But today I need to upgrade to anything above 4.0.4 after the very bad experience I had late friday eve which is quite costy.
I have one more minor trouble I didn't speak of in my first post :
I bought my tablet in September 2012 in the Netherlands GT P5110, ICS 4.0.4. So after checking on the XDA page where all of the stock firmwares are listed, I realized there is no "perfect" match. The only firmware for the Netherlands and for P5110 is from April 2012 and ICS 4.0.3, not 4.0.4 ; yet it is the one I downloaded. Should I get another one ?
About the Root remover, I uploaded to my tab one I downloaded from a website which I can't recall or find on google right now because I downloaded two from two different websites and only remember this one : www techbloggerzone com/2012/09/how-to-unroot-galaxy-tab-2-101-gt html [dots for WWW | COM and HTML were removed since I'm not allowed to post external links yet]
I think there's nothing else missing, but tell me if there is.
IMPORTANT EDIT : I just realized the factory usb plug I have for the Samsung must be damaged. It charges on sector, but isn't identified properly on my laptop and thus won't let me connect it by wire. Didn't figure this out earlier as I did all transfers by Kies wifi. Damn ... but it only explains why Odin can't upload anything to my tab, not why I can't use find the zip install option in Recovery mode for the root_remover.zip
As already stated you're in the wrong place but we all try to help each other here...but no more rants or you might find a stoney silence will be your only reply....
Problem with Odin is more likely laptop drivers and/or windows version and not your cable...
Samfirmware has many 4.0.4 roms for your "area", they have a 4.1.2 version for Netherlands and 4.0.4 for Belgium, Luxembourg etc. As long as you find an XX version it will have Dutch language option.
The recovery you described when you eventually got into it sounded like stock recovery so you wouldn't be able to choose and flash zip from there
Calm down, take a deep breath, get your laptop and drivers sorted first or you'll not get anywhere... Did you have a yellow indication with com port number in the Odin window, if not it is surely drivers. Does windows in any way recognise the tab when connected? (warning tone, does device manager show anything?)

I thought I had all my drivers updated (for the samsung tab, installed like two or three weeks ago), so if it's about drivers, then I don't get it . I checked that in the first place. The cable sometimes fails the connection to my laptop, but today it just won't work. :/. Windows recognizes the device as an external object which can't properly install and such connect (yellow pop up message in right corner, over the task bar). I do not exactly undersatnd what you mean by a yellow indication with "com port" number in the Odin window, but I don't think I had that ... in fact I'm pretty sure about it.
If it's just about drivers, where can I go to find the latest ?
Try looking in Samsung site for drivers here http://www.samsung.com/us/support/
What version of odin are you using? Would recommend 1.3 for the tab 2.
The indication of com port in odin is as in attached image, if you haven't got that then the computer is not recognising your tab, either because of drivers, or cable, but as we've said, you should start with the drivers, probably by downloading the latest from Samsung, deleting all drivers you have at the moment then re-installing.
If the tab is not recognized by the computer then programs like odin cannot do anything as they use the computers' usb bus...

Thank you very much !! I was using Odin 1.85 and Odin 3.7 (used 1.85 for rooting), I'll try a downgraded version.
Keep you in touch if problems are resolved or not after that. Thank you again.

[Q] Returning to Stock -please help-

I have read through the forums for the last two days trying to figure out how to get my tab back to stock and cant seem to find any links that are current (or unbroken). Can some one please point me in the right direction to a stock rom image? My note 10.1 gt-n8013 wont boot up at all after a recent update. I do have access to the recovery screen and the download target screen but I cant get my computer to run odin (it recognizes the device but fails connection set up every time). I re installed all drivers on my windows 7 laptop but it looks like I will have to load onto the memory card to get anything to work. Thanks in advance for any help and please don't hesitate to ask questions if I have left any needed info out.
First of all, you are in the wrong forum. This one is for the Galaxy Tab 10.1, which is very much different from your Galaxy Note 10.1. The correct forum is here: Galaxy Note 10.1 forum
But anyway
Go to http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/, create a profile (press the "join"-button in the upper right corner), and then search for GT-8013. Pick the first firmware on the list. This will take you to a download page that contains the firmware. Download it :good:
Then go download Samsung KIES to install the correct drivers. Grab it here Be sure to download the correct version (not the one for the Note 3)
Since you don't specify which version of Odin you use, I suggest you download version 1.85 from the second post in this thread
Now you have all you need.
Make sure you have USB-debugging enabled and reboot to download mode.
Make sure KIES is not running, kill the process in windows task manager.
Start up Odin, preferably run it as administrator, and connect your device to your PC.
Select the downloaded firmware in the PDA box and press start :good:
You should now be on stock firmware
And shame on you for posting this in the development section too!
thanks so much for the info. sorry, wont make that newb mistake again! no wonder nothing was working!
