[Q] unremovable icon on gallery - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

Well, the subject says it all. There is a thumbnail of a talking Pierre the parrot video in my gallery. I recorded some videos and deleted them once using androzip file mgr. But this thumbnail do not go away. I tried many things from removing thumbnail caches to reinstalling the app. When I try to press the menu button after selecting it, the gallery force stops. Pls help. Thanks in advance.
phone: Sony xperia S
android 2.3.7

Have you tried holding the icon on the screen you are on now?
Normally, you hold that icon until it has a blue tick, then at the top right, you should see a trash can.
Hopefully, that should work!

Try to click the icon... if it is still playable, the file was not totally deleted... and that explain the icon...

Happened to me once, try rebooting the phone.

it's still there
Thanks guys, I have already tried the things you've told me but there were no good. :-( I can select the item in the gallery. But when I press the menu button, it force closes. There is no delete icon when I select or tick the icon. Plus the file cannot be opened.
P.s. Can I format the internal memory without affecting tue system files? i.e. Android folder etc.? (i have backups for media files)

You can select the repair option in Sony pc companion, be aware that this will delete all internal data such as apps, contacts. All external data will be untouched.

Okay. But formatting the internal memory would affect only to the internal memory right? It doesn't affect the system memory such as android OS data right?

Did you try to wipe just Gallery application data?
One more thing: Try installing for example QuickPic from Play Store and see if there is this phantom image too

Chossing the repair option will erase all data in the internal memory such as for example, your progress in games, contacts, calendar, think of it as when you first bought the phone it will be required to make all the necessary configurations. The files that will remain if they are located in the external memory will be (photos, files, etc).

Thanks for your help everyone!! I'm gonna format the internal memory. First of all I have to fix ma computer. Then I'll back everything up and format the internal memory. Will let ya know the results when I'm done.

One more question. If I format the internal memory, would the default or original sony ericsson apps (e.g. Clock, messaging, music, FM radio etc.) be there after the formattiong process? Or do I lose them forever?

SOLVED!
Yay!! I tried k_myk's suggestion of deleting via another gallery app and it worked!!! Thank you for all of you guys! (specially to k_myk) Now I'm saved!! No need to format!!

Sd card problem

Hi guys
After running the 2.01.605.11 .zip RUU to get back to stock GB my ReZound dont reconize/mount sd card anymore.
any tips?
Thanks in Advance
Have you tried reformatting it?
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
I think this happens when you mix GB/ICS firmware and ROMs. Try this:

Not sure if related, but if I add photos and images to my sd card or even internal storage on my phone it doesnt show up in the gallery. I did a search on google and it led me to clearing my media storage data in the apps settings but after doing that my gallery was empty. After wuite a while, my gallery items seemed to have come back, but none of the new folders I added are showing up? If I use root explorer I can find the images and folders they are in but I can only open them from there one at a time. It wont let me share pictures or do anything with them. Is this a known issue? I'm on cleanrom de.

gallery is garbage. use quickpic from market. to fix media storage get a media scan app nut don't scan until you clear media storage first
Using an RUU and going from ICS to GB you might just need to do a factory reset from hboot and then reboot the phone and then you should be good. If that doesn't work reformat the SD card. I believe it happens because the SD card sometimes keeps the info from the previous version on there that's why you need to factory reset.

are you try to flash another recovery ?
I had the same sd card problem.
Got that resolved now.
But I have a calling problem. I try to dial and phone reboots.
**edit** - I got the phone part working. Just reflashed the kearnel package and the update to it.

Believe its an issue where mainver doesnt match hboot/fastboot and it wont allow your sdcard to mount. try this -> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23169557&postcount=4

[Q] PC Companion

When I try to connect my Acro S to PC Companion (WiFi), it saya that the config program needs to create a file at the root of my computers drive but that file already exist. Where do I find that file? I've talked to Sony about this and they say that I should try to repair my phone (re-installing the software). This deletes the whole memory, so I won't do it. Any suggestions where I might find this file? I'd be thankful for any help I can get. I've reinstalled PC Companion, that doesn't help. This problem occurred when I earlier today deleted all of my settings (reset).

You've mentioned that you don't want to reinstall the software because it deletes the whole memory(false), but the problem started after you deleted all of your settings. Let me explain you what PC Companion actually does and means by wiping/erasing memory: it actually only erases the phone settings + user data(Contacts, Messages, App Data like savegames or options, Accounts, Music Playlists, Groups, wipes all apps installed) so it doesn't really wipes the entire memory, only the phone and data. Your music, videos, photos and other files and folder that you see as "Internal Memory" when you connect the phone to the computer are still kept, until you select to format/wipe/erase internal storage(pretending you don't have a SD Card, only files and things stored in the internal memory). At least this is for Xperia S, and as far as I know Acro S has too an internal memory of about 11 GB user-available beside the SD Card slot.

I know, but I don't feel like setting up everything again, I've already done that today. The problem is where the file is located. The popup window says it's located at the root of my drive, so I navigate to C:\ and find nothing that's not supposed to be there. I thought anybody would know where it's located? :\
You need to write down the entire path listed on the error message so you can successfully navigate to the correct file.

But the error message doesn't say any path, only that there's a file that I need to delete.

[Q] Music apps can't read from SDCard

Hi guys,
I've been frustrated with this issue for a while. By using any kind of file manager, I can see my sd card (under /storage/sdcard1). Can copy file to and from. The same goes when I connect the phone to my PC. But when I try to read music from the sd card, it seems that non of the music apps can see the SD. The same goes with the gallery, can't see any pics from the SD. Tried to clear data from media service but still no luck.
I am using RR Rom, before when I used GB, didn't have any problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!!!

[Q] Apps Missing After Moved to SD

Hi there,
I've got a problem.
After I moved some apps to SD Card (using Link2SD or Titanium Backup), they are gone from home screen, app drawer list, and even in the list of installed apps they still missing. However, the files are still in disk but for some reasons, the OS cant detect them.
They only came back (to home screen and app drawer) after I perform Hot Boot.
Could you please explain why that was happening?
And how to avoid that problem?
I am using 4.1.2 Wanamlite XWLSW and Philz kernel 5.06.
Thanks,
I'm not really familiar with moving apps to other storages. But I'd recommend you to leave them where they are. Our SGS2 has storage for hundreds of apps. Plus they are slower if you move them and widgets won't work anymore.
Edit: Almost forgot about that: Big games automatically store their data on sd-card so there's no need to move them since the apps size itself is rather small
Move app using stock function setting》applications》select app》move to sd card
Send from my SGS2 I9100 with HassanROM and latest DorimanX 8.xx kernel

Thanks, but if I dont move them, my Internal storage will be empty and I cant do some of basic functions (ex: take camera pictures, download documents, take screenshots, etc). Moving apps gives me some space in internal storage (maybe around 100 MB).

I tried that but still doesnt work.
I tried using Link2SD and Titanium Backup, but after reboot normally, they are still gone. I tried Smart Launcher, but they stil didnt appear. Because they were listed as uninstalled. The files are there, but the system doesnt load them. Must still do hot reboot first before the system loads them.
I guess I'll take 1 example for disappearing app, this information taken from Link2SD (after Hot Boot):
Temple Run 2 Version 1.2.1 (on SD Card)

What actually Hot Boot does and normal reboot does not?

JB manages Memory in a diff way compared to ICS or GB, so its always better to have the apps where they get installed, rather than moving them to elsewhere and face trouble

But it looks like every apps installs themselves in internal storage (even app that uses big APK size), so soon or later my internal storage will be full. Is there any workaround about that?
Thanks

just open settings>manage apps and under 'All' tab u can tap on the app and see whether u can move that app to 'sdcard' or not, if its there then u can do it else its better to leave it.
since moving apps to sdcard using third party apps from stores, will always bring issue's for u, rather than resolving the storage problem

Urgent help needed For Cleaning Mics files upto 7 Gb

In my redmi note 3 32 gb...
There seems some misc files which are eating my all space...
I reset phone...
Clear cache thumbnails etc all...possible but still that taking space.
My phone is not rooted.
Pls give me solution to take back those space.
Ss added
This is miscellaneous files, is there because they're not music, video, pics or apps.
That means there are files in your internal stoerage that are taking up space. Look around inside your internal storage to see whats using the space
Checked all storage ....did not find that file....even deleting all things.
Clear your internal storage. Open file manager go to internal server card select all and delete

Install Disk usage app from play store, it will show what exactly that is.
Use this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.diskusage to check which files are consuming space

System data taking my 7 gb from remaining 24 gb.
While already mi told it's 32 gb.
Check screen shot.
Not showing inside system data...what is it?
I think its system partition, where all the files requires to run your phone are stored there.

Just checked my phone and I don't have the misc data (under settings menu), and I do have a system data partition but it's much smaller.,
so its either
oh see this post too.

misc files seems to be generated by the Camera app (I use OpenCamera, so that's probably why I don't have this "misc" data)
--------------------- other reasons -----------------
1. you are installing big APK files that don't use obb files (normally amazon app store uses these types, possibly other app stores), so all the big data gets written to the /data/data/ or /data/app dir taking up space.
2. system backups from twrp or similar can eat a lot of space. this could be why it's listed as system data
3. install sdmaid see if it finds anything abnormal.
4. (unlikely) you have a lot of apps installing to the "Internal Memory" - android thinks it's a sdcard - these apps are hidden under /mnt/sdcard0/.android_secure
(mounted with a fake mount point to prevent access, also a hidden folder) so you can't modify apps or view contents - try uninstalling apps to see if size changes.

My phone is not rooted and no twrp.

Checked sd maid .....but no help.
It's asking for root to check system data folder.
Any idea or command that I can scan /data folder via adb command on pc?
I don't want to root currently.
Tried all but not able to find what is eating my all space...
Any why it's not deleted even after reset .
open the Camera app properties click force stop and clear data and clear cache, see if that does it, without root you will be unable to browse in /data/data

But deleting camera app data or cache did not help.
--------
Now I think I can't find that misc without root.
So I leaved it until I root.
Now I watched some youtube videos and added my nano sim with sd card.
And able to use both dual sim and sd.
Moved some internal data in sd...atleast made some more space with the help of sd. ??☺☺
Delete local back up
You must have enabled local storage backup. Delete it and you'll free up and lot of space.
Here's how you can delete it
