root wont work 2nd time around. Help Please! - Motorola Droid RAZR

about two weeks ago I rooted my RAZR phone with motofail and it was successful, then I tried to install the blackwidow rom on my phone and I ended up bricking it so I did a factory reset using DroidRAZRutility and it reset my phone to factory as it should, it installed system version 6.12.167 I think so I updated it to v. 6.12.181.XT912 and when I run motofail it says "'adb' is not recognized as an internal or external command." the android version I have is 2.3.6, and advice is welcomed, Thank You!

go into your phones settings and make sure debugging is checked, and that your USB setting is "Charge Only"

Yeah I did that like I said I know how to root as I have done it before but after I factory reset my phone after bricking it now it wont let me root.

I had the same problem a while back it turned out I was running a version of dru without the fastboot files, I just noticed on this forum there is a 1.7 version of dry, I'm going to look into that today maybe you should too. Good luck

The 1.7 version is for going to ICS .211, use the 1.6 DRU with full fastboot files to fastboot back to .181 and then use it to root, that's what I did after I bricked from trying to flash a beats audio mod that probably wasn't for this phone, and I was rooted before the brick and DRU 1.6 rooted without issue after the fastboot.

Alright thanks, do you think you can get me a link for download? Ok I downloaded swiftdroid 1.6 and extracted it to my desktop and it is a .img file, what do I do with it now?

Go into settings and enable USB Debugging. That's why it's not recognizing your phone. If it still doesn't recognize it and you have it in charge mode, then you need to install the Moto drivers to your computer.

go here http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/t...612181-fastboot-files/page__hl__ utility 1.6 this is what I used when I bricked mine and could only get into AP fastboot mode, it will wipe all internal memory, only the microSD card will be left alone.
Directions:
1. Boot phone into AP fastboot
2. Launch DroidRazr Utility 1.6 (right-click and choose, RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR)
3. Choose Option #1 and follow onscreen directions
4. After fastboot is finished you will be back to BONE stock
5. Choose Option #2 and follow onscreen directions
6. You should now be rooted.
7. Optional choose option #5 if you want to install Voodoo root keeper to attempt to retain root for the upcoming OTA

Ok I followed the instructiona to a T and when I try to do option 2 it says "the system could not find the path specified!" Im starting to think that I can no longer root my phone for some reason.

You have to unzip the files in the default folder.
These error messages are related to missing files/folders.
Adb is not recognized as command... Means adb.exe is not present in the folder you've extracted the toll.
The system couldn't find the path, means adb isn't enable. Go Config > Developer.. > USB debuging. (If it doesn't work, change your USB port and make sure adb is on)
Use this in command prompt to check:
Code:
adb devices
- This is what you should get:
C:\Users\xxx\Desktop\Razr\tools\adb>adb devices
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started successfully *
List of devices attached
0146841894006018 device
Cheers

Ok I get "waiting for device..., daemon not running.starting it now on port 5037, daemon started successfully. and it stays as that!

[Q] Cannot Root or load Gingerblur (FIXED)

Figured out my Problem Thanks.
For aRoot, I just kept fiddling every day for like 3 days, and it finally worked randomly. Just the combination of debugging and which connection, and the order leading up to it toggled.

Have you enabled usb debugging? Its under settings applications development. did you make sure your phone is set to none under the the usb connection? Lastly did you run the adb prior to the install? Make sure all of those are done...i have limited knowledge myself but hopefully this helps.
Edit: just curious why did you need to flash sbf if you were unable to do anything you mentioned?

I have tried fiddling with gingerblur adeo superroot and aroot for days. I even exchanged my phone once and tried it on 3 computers. Still no luck. It has to be something i am missing or doing wrong. Superroot says it is waiting for device then freezes. aRoot and Gingerblur will says "achieving temporary root then scroll through a whole bunch of stuff and then says rebooting." and the phone never does anything at all.

Yeah, there is something fiddly about achieving root first... once you achieve it, shell root is a breeze.
I had to fiddle with it for a while. Had to do with toggling debugging at the right moment during the root process. Don't remember when, but one of the longer steps. Presumably at or right before it freezes for you. Try toggling off -> on (or on -> off and back).
Connection mode needs to be "None", after you ran through all the connection modes, so your PC has all the necessary drivers installed.

[Q] Did I brick my Droid X2?

Need help please!!! I rooted my DX2 few weeks ago using Gingerbreak. Everything went well all this time. Today I tried to unroot the phone. Because I was going to up date to Gingerbread. I defrost all the frozen apps, deleted all the rooted apps. Then I tried to do a factory hard reset by holding power button and volume down button and going in to fastboot, as I push the volume button up, the phone just went dead. I cannot power it up to do anything. When can I do to get this phone in to recovery mode or at lease power it up....

Thanks for your quick post. I followed directions and I am stuck at step # 4 . RSD starts to flash but then stops with a massage "phone is not compatible with multi-interface super file. (X-703B); phone connected. Fail..
Did you run RSD as administrator?
Yes I have tried with admin login. I am running Win 7 pro on my laptop. Keep getting the same error. That my phone is not compatiable...What is my next move...???
I actually found someone with this problem in another forum, their problem was they renamed the .gz file instead of using 7zip to extract it, had the exact same error. not sure if its the same issue hope it helps

Thank you so much for your help..
I've seen a few posts now of people getting that error message because they tried to flash the SBF before extracting it from the ZIP. That needs to be put in the HOWTO tutorial.
Also, RSD Lite likes to warn you that disconnecting your phone can cause permament damage even though it's finished flashing. (Progress is at 100% and it tells you to reboot your phone manually). That should be put in there, too. The phone is flashed but RSD doesn't always properly disconnect on it's own but as long as the progress is 100% and it tells you that it's complete and you can reboot your phone then you are done.

It does say in dag425 howto post that you need to extract with 7zip, I've thought about asking him to capitalize it or somehow make it draw more attention, think I will PM him about this
Sent from my DROID X2 using XDA App
Ask him to also mention that when progress is at 100% and RSD Lite tells you that it is finished and you can manually boot your phone that you can disconnect your phone regardless of the warnings from RSD Lite that disconnecting your phone can damage it because it won't disconnect on it's own no matter how long ya wait. It did that to me and I thought I was gonna ruin my phone!
Thanks for all the help with SBF. I am having another issue now. after following the directions the phone is up an running. Instead of using prerooted gingerbread, I installed from OTA ver 2.3.3.
I have been trying to use gigerbreak.apk to root it again but after all the step, the phone just runs the exploit. I let it ran over 15 mins to no avail. I have tried 3 time and no success. Am I doing something wrong? Is there another exploit for DX2 2.3.3?
the new 2.3.3 isn't rootable. gingerbreak doesn't work. hence why a pre-rooted version was created. you need to SBF all over again, wipe your phone and install the pre-rooted version.
the steps are SBF & WIPE Froyo
GINGERBREAK while on Froyo (root your phone)
Install Custom Recovery on your Rooted phone (because it won't work unless your phone is rooted anyway)
Boot into Recovery
run SD : update.zip (with the update.zip on your external SD CARD)
takes a lil while and your phone might boot loop a few times. Just let it do it's thing and you'll have rooted gingerbread.
Thanks Calcobrena, You have saved me a lot of time. Now I have SBF my phone and rooted it with gingerbreak.apk, I want to install prerooted GB. I have downloaded recovery and the update for GB. I can't seem to install recovery file on my phone. I went in to astro file manager and it does shows that file is on the SD but when I try to extract, I am getting nothing. I am sure I am missing something, please help again. Thanks
You need to open the recovery apk and click 'install recovery' then plug the phone into the wall outlet and press 'recovery mode'

Basically what EvilTim said. A lot of the files you will be dealing with are in ZIP or RAR compressed formats. I use 7zip (http://www.7-zip.org/) to get them out, so head over there and pick that up if you need to extract files. It's much easier just to transfer the files to your phone unzipped rather than using your phone's file manager to do that for you.
The app file extension is .apk so make sure that's whatyou are sending over to your phone. After that, just open it.
In the app you'll see an INSTALL button at the top. Click it and give it SUPERUSER permissions when the screen pops up. THEN, click the button below the install button to run it. It will reboot your phone. Plug your phone into the wall charger and it will boot up into custom recovery. From there just run SDCARD: Update.zip
the problem was Astro file app, it does not support RAR files. I downloaded Andro zip from the market and that was it.. Every worked perfect... Thanks for all the help guys.

Don't disconnect your phone it will reboot a couple times make sure you have a full battery to be safe
1. Get your drivers (i use "pdanet" to get my drivers)
Motorola:https://motorola-global-portal.custh...ail/a_id/88481
PdaNet:http://junefabrics.com/android/download.php
2. Enable USB debugging ("Settings"> "Developer options"> Check of "USB debugging" (Under "Debugging" section)
3. Connect your phone to your computer if not connected already
5. Unzip Mattlegroff's "RestoreToot.zip"
6. Run "FixRoot.bat" it should run automatically but you may have to press a key
7. Once your done and it notifies you by saying "0" and some more text
It doesn't always say 0 just FYI... I lost root when I went to JB even after following all the directions to the letter and I ran the tool, did not observe any 0 but downloaded Root Checker from Market and I had full root again.

Hmm, if you don't get a status 0 and are just going by OTA Rootkeeper then i'd try "su" in terminal emulator just to make sure.
Edit - Dan Rosenberg has found an exploit for JB OTA over at droidrzr

[Q] HTC One X+ ROM problems

Hello everyone,
I have been searching in vain for a while now to find a solution to my problem and I fear that I may have done something daft to my phone.
I am using a HTC One X+ that was unlocked, s-off and rooted for about a year, i had TWRP and stock android 4.1.1. For ages I have been getting an update alert saying a software update is ready and i think it was some Vodafone update (1.17.161.7). Whenever i accepted and tried to install this it would obviously reboot into TWRP and then the update would fail. This was fine until last night when I decided to install it through TWRP, it said it failed again and i rebooted to find that WiFi wouldnt turn on, my phone was no longer rooted or s-off and that I get no signal. I tried to re-root it but command prompt on the computer or HTC Sync wouldnt recognise my device however it was appearing as HTC One X+ in My Computer and i could access the internal storage.
I restarted into recovery and managed to flash a new root using twrp and the root file using the unlockr.com - how to root the htc one x
Then thinking it was a ROM issue i downloaded and installed InsertCoin Evolution ONE X+ 5.0-6 Sense 5 Android 4.2.2.
This all went through ok however when i reboot from this install it just sticks at the HTC Quietly Brilliant screen. I wiped everything using twrp beforehand.
When i restart into bootloader, it says unlocked, S-On and HBOOT -1.30.0000
Not sure what else to do as now i have no ROM, i read that you have to partition the SD card for InsertCoin to work but the option to partition SD card isnt there in my TWRP (ver. 2.3.3.0)
Any help to even reset my phone back to basic stock everything would be amazing, i have a Titanium Backup of most of my stuff saved btw.
Thanks to anyone who can help.

No I just copied the whole zip file to the SD card section and installed it from there - ive encountered a new problem now in the fact that my computer no longer can recognise the phone via USB - it still appears in device manager but cant access the sd card and the sd card got wiped by twrp so now i dont have any way of getting things onto the phone that i know of. It just says - failed to open usb master mode in the bootloader. How could i get the computer to recognise the phone again so i can transfer it back onto it and try installing insertcoin again? Really hoping i havent managed to make my phone useless as ive had to dig out the old Nokia 6230 from the drawer haha!
Thanks.
EDIT - Now seen the instruction to flash the boot.img - what a fool i am. Now i need to get it recognised by USB again so i can transfer the zip file to it and go again.

Without a rom installed you're not able to acces the internal memory of your phone directly. You have to use "adb sideload" command to transfer a rom onto your phone. Look in the General and/or Q&A forum of this device, there are enough guides or topics on how to solve this "problem".

Hi use this link..may be useful (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2066390) by the way reaper90 is right you need to sideload the rom..
In TWRP:
1-wipe everything
2-goto advance in twrp
3-select sideload
4-navigate to the folder where you have adb.exe, adbwinapi.dll, adbwinusbapi.dll and fastboot.exe. and make sure to keep the rom and its image; bootimg there.
5-then in command prompt write (adb sideload *name of the rom*.zip) make sure the name is a letter.
6- also make sure to keep the screen alive and not let it goto sleep while adb sideload is working.
7- rom will start setup once sideload is 100%.
Hope this helps. Goodluck.

Hi, thanks very much for the responses - its much appreciated.
Nothing happens when i type that command, a load of text appears in cmd prompt showing all the adb commands and thats it, i have searched for this problem and found this on twrp website as a possible solution "You will need version 1.0.29 or higher. You can find your current version by typing "adb version" at the command line" My version says 1.0.26 I have tried to update this but cant seem to find a way to do it, would that be an issue?
I think once ive managed to sideload the zip i should be good to go its just getting to that point that seems to be stumping me at the moment.

Dont sweat it. They understood you wrong.
Guys what he wants to do is copy the file FROM the SDCARD TO the PC.
First you will need to know where the location of your rom then type in the following commands:
Code:
adb devices
If you device is not detected then try to run the CMD as an administrator and try again
then:
Code:
adb pull {location without the curly brackets}
For example if its on the SDCard then:
Code:
adb pull /sdcard/rom.zip
It will paste the file to the folder where the adb is found
Then just open the zip file and get out the boot.img and flash it using fastboot
Hope this helps you out.

no rom STUCK IN RECOVERY no way to install rom DROID DNA

This is my first post ever since I joined 2 years ago
This is only for droid dna from Verizon.
It’s an easy step by step guide to bring your droid dna rom back if you did the same stupid thing I did… ERASED THE SYSTEM DATA FROM THE RECOVERY!!! on twrp or clock mode recovery, and you end up with no rom to use your phone.
Now this solution is based in my personal experience of 3 days without my droid dna, and I have perform successfully the exact same proses several times trying to wipe out completely the phone.
THE CELLPHONE MOST HAVE BEEN UNLOCKED PREVIOUSLY
All this was done on a laptop running windows XP.
All the programs you need to accomplish this will be provided at the end… read first.
First you need twrp for droid dna
If pc won’t communicate with your droid dna, you will need this… PdaNetA4126
Also the DNAToolkitSetupV1.0.5
And a rom less than 1 GB, it has to be a single zip rom not the new rooms that are spited in gapps and rom. I will upload a rom that looks like the htc one.
Ok let’s get started
*If your pc won’t connect with the cellphone you first need install the PdaNetA4126 on your pc, after that connect your droid dna to the pc and you will be able to see your droid dna in device manager.
*This step is only if you don’t have trwp as recovery method …Now unzip the Droid_DNA_All-In-One_Kit_v2.1 and run it, click flash recovery, wait for it to finish.
*Unplug the usb cable and now unzip and install DNAToolkitSetupV1.0.5, once it finish reconnect the usb cable and run the DNAToolkitSetupV1.0.5, enter 20 to refresh, in the upper left hand corner should be listed you device under adb mode.
*Before typing 14 to sideload you need to copy the rom zip you downloaded and paste it in the folder named stillthisguy in your programs folder, inside that one you will find another folder named sideload, put the rom zip in there.
*Go to sideload on twrp while your droid dna is connected to your pc, go to advance then sideload.
*Type 14 in DNAToolkitSetupV1.0.5 then enter, it will show the zip to sideload, type in the name exactly as it shows there including the .zip example: droidnaone.zip
*Enter and wait for DNAToolkitSetupV1.0.5 to sideload the zip to your droid dna.
If all worked fine it will automatically initiate the install, reboot and wait.
If you keep the rom I uploaded, uninstall the camera.apk and download camera ics from blackmarket, choose the one with blue lens, that one does not have ads.
1. Tool that has the twrp you need: http://d-h.st/h4X
2. PdaNetA4126 http://www.filedropper.com/pdaneta4126
3. DNAToolkitSetupV1.0.5 you can get it from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219175
4. Rom http://www.filedropper.com/droidnaone
good luck!
hmm thanks?
I'm stuck for a week my phone will charge but my PC won't see it so I'll try this method to see if it works and post back after

Thanks man. Up and running again, used ViperDNA rom to sideload. Thank you again
If you can get to bootloader put it in fastboot open a command window and type fastboot erase cache. Then try to boot to recovery.

Awesome!
Thanks so much! After bricking my DNA by wiping everything, I spent a long time searching on how to fix it. Could not get past ADB not recognizing my device, but I found your post and everything was explained and worked!

Here is my experience
1. like a dumb ass I erased my data and whole phone in recovery.
2. Tried to sideload a rom with the new TWRP beta! EPIC FAIL not happening.
3. Reached into my little container of usb sticks and grabbed the smallest one I could find the black one not the blue one. (I only have 2) LMAO
4. Insert stick into the pc and load the rom I would like to install.
5. remove stick after loading and insert it into my trusty lil $2 USB OTG adapter.
6. insert the married usb and otg adapter into phone and flash the rom you loaded onto the stick.
7. BAM!!!!!! Once again a happy DNA owner!
Your welcome

did you leave a step out? . but how did you flash a rom from usb storage? i keep a nandroid on internal storage, then i have all my roms backed up on my OTG sd cards, so i can move them to the phone storage to flash if need be. i have not seen the ability to flash directly from USB. i am on twrp .6 beta. i looked and either overlooked it, or you left out a step lol
I've installed plenty of ROMs in the past but this time I was never able to get adb to show my device after I wiped my phone clean (fastboot did show it though) so I had to use fastboot to flash the oldest hboot & radio and RUU back to stock, then upgrade, root (S-OFF persisted even after RUU) and then do a 'normal' wipe and install a custom ROM.
Oddly enough, adb showed my device again after the RUU to stock. Didn't touch the windows drivers.

Whenever you flash, backup, or restore, you should see a button that says "internal storage." It's not super obvious that it's a button, but if you click it you should see an option to user your USB storage.

It's normal for it to show 0 bytes, but it should let your select it... Will it let you mount it manually?

It doesn't let me select it. I haven't tried manually mounting it, other than manually plugging it in lol.... Ill give it a shot
I should mention I did have a similar problem recently and it was because it had been corrupted somehow. I backed up my files, reformatted it, and it was fine after that.

OK..... Evidently it was the particular card reader I was using. Tried it with my Meenova and it worked fine. That's very odd bc the other card reader is the one I use primarily on my dna , it works fine when the rom is running??? Any how that's great to know and something I wish I could do ! Thanks Jamie !!
