[Q] Broke screen, Insurance claim? - Motorola Droid RAZR

Ok, so after owning the phone for 7 months, longest ever time for me, and I just was about to get ICS, I dropped my phone in really find dirt, almost dust like, and didnt pay attention, kept along with my call, looked at the screen its got a spider crack all over the screen.
What is the process for a replacement, I got the $6.99/month insurance from verizon, do I just go into a store for a replacement? Is it possible to go for a maxx while im getting a new phone?
Also hows the quality of the refurb phones, if they are below satisfactory is it possible for me to request a new one?

I'll try and give you my experience since I've been through this personally.
I too dropped my phone. The screen cracked just as yours did.
If you are insured through Verizon, I am going to assume you have Asurion.
You'll need to call Asurion directly or go to their website and file a claim.
I suggest to go through the website as it is the easiest and fastest way.
Just head to phoneclaim.com/verizon and fill in all your details.
Depending on the phone, you will have to pay a fee. For me personally it was $100. You may pay on the website with a debit/credit card. You MAY be able to pay later when you receive the phone. I am not sure about that.
Fill in all information truthfully on the claim website. They don't care how you broke your phone so just tell them it slipped from your hands and drop it and that is all.
When they ask if you broke/lost, etc. your headphones/car charger/case during the incident, say that you did. They do not check nor ask for your old ones, etc.
YOU will receive a generic car charger, leather case (fit most phone but probably not Razr or larger phones, honestly...) and also cheap earbuds. These are free so just say you lost them.
They will send you a package to send your phone in. They say not to include battery, accessory, battery door, etc. Just purely phone (if possible, of course).
You send your phone in the envelope and they send you another phone.
They will send you a new OR refurbished phone of the exact same model OR a comparable phone (as far as specs, etc) if they do not have one in stock. If they do not have it in stock, you may request to wait until they do. In such case you would, most likely but not always, receive a new phone. Depends if they got hands on someone else claim and refurb a phone or ordered new ones from equipment manufacturer. Since Razr is newer then you may have some luck.
I broke my HTC Incredible and received a new one by chance. I later broke that Incredible some years later, and because the original Incredible was outdated at that time, I was sent a brand-new HTC Incredible II.
Just the luck of the draw. They state they may send refurb phones so it's not really something you can argue about. If you get one, and are not satisfy that it is refurb, you can contact customer support and try to argue it out but good luck.
Again I have not file the claim in 2 or so years (I think) but this is what I remember about it.
Hope it helps you and best luck.

Honestly, return phones are fine. After two bad HTC rezounds, I argued until they gave me a refurb RAZR maxx. It was just like new, everything worked great.

[Q] RMA Success rate?

Has anyone had any success getting a replacement device out of Dell after having a bad LCD? (not dropped just defective) or any issue for that matter?
Just got my streak through work friday and within 2-3hrs noticed a few bad pixels in one corner. Over the weekend they seem to have been bleeding and have spread to 2x the size of the notification bar so far.
The device has definately not been dropped, mashed, on squeezed or anything similar. The LCD and Glass are NOT cracked.
Anyway, like I said, got it though my work, they area a very large OEM Dell customer (got a batch of Streaks direct from Dell). We even have access to warranty parts direct and whatnot. So yea, do they even replace these things? Anyone have any ideas as to how to approach this since it's obviously a defective device? How long does it take if they even do replace it? Thanks!
It's clearly defective, you've had it for only a few days and it shows no signs of damage. Call DELL or whoever is handling that type of situation at your company. You should've tried that before asking.
I called them today. They are doing advanced replacement RMA. I asked here first because upon searching I had found several people who had issues getting service with defective/broken LCD's, Didn't know if there was anything specific I would need to do in order to be successful and not denied for causing damage (not the case) like others had
Heres some pics of what the screen is doing. It stated as a spec in the bottom left corner and has been growing daily.

The top earpeice bezel is poorly attached and coming loose.
I also noticed scratches all over the factory screen sticky cover when I opened the phone. I really really think this thing was a refurb...
Anyway, did advanced RMA. Hoping the replacement unit does not have similar problems.
Just updating this for future reference if anyone has questions about the process.
I got the replacement device within 4 business days of request. The replacement was obviously a refurb and has blatant damage on the back panel. It appears someone tried to remove the battery cover forcefully with some sort of tool. Also, the charge/data port is faulty and causes constant battery/charger errors to appear.
So in summary, yes, you can get a replacement device so long as there is no blatant user induced damage on the original device. But you WILL get a refurb, and evidently their QC is not the best, so good luck getting a good replacement. They are sending me a 2nd replacement, hoping for the best, but not expecting much at this point =/
They told me that they would send you a new replacement if you're within 21 days of delivery of the original phone.

[q] will archos do a warranty replacement on this?

I think yes
i think, they won't do it..
You did this (when you sleep, but you did it).
I'm sorry but maybe you can deal with the archos guys
Yes. I rolled over it. And I was planning to factory reset and sell. I was gonna put it toward the huaweii s7 slim. I believe archos will repair it for a fee.

warranties
this is why it is usually worth it to get an outside warranty, like through squaretrade, that includes accidental damage. hopefully archos is willing to do the replacement.
@iflip hello m8, have you heard anything from archos? I just cracked the "glass" of the screen by accidentally dropping my phone on it very poor quality but anyway my fault... no the touchscreen doesn't work for the whole screen anymore
how much will it cost or is there a way for me to replace it by myself?
if screen is cracked then they wont replace. i've been told this by the uk / euro returns team/support line
if the screens touch screen is no longer working but the screen isnt physically damaged then i see no problem in getting it replaced under warranty.
Archos dont offer a repair service, they just replace the faulty units after doing some basic checks on it. pretty sure they dont do anything to it. ie they replaced my first unit which no longer powered on even though it had SDE on it, guess they dont have the means to get it up and running to an extent to check for that. or they dont care.
check the picture attached.
the foil on top is not harmed, but the (plexi?)glass below has two big and a couple of little cracks. the lcd screen is still working perfectly but the touchscreen only works on the left third
edit: my phone fell right on the aluminium border, right above the first letter "e" of "internet"
its obvious accidental/user damaged. its not a fault thats just developed (no matter how crappy the quality of the glass is.. thats something that you'd have to fight over!)
therefore they'll just tell you to go away. give it a go though, you never know. but seeings as they just replace not repair , they'd be ££ out of pocket on sending you one when you caused the damage.
@funky I wrote "I just cracked the "glass" of the screen by accidentally dropping my phone on it". I know it's my fault
and I asked:
"how much will it cost or is there a way for me to replace it by myself?"
no answer so far.
i know.. i was just saying.. i wasnt trying to be patronising or saying that you were trying to pass it off as not accidental.
if you are uk/europe they wont replace or fix, end of. unsure what the procedure elsewhere in the world is, but seeings as they are made in france I doubt it would be any different elsewhere.
You can buy replacement screens with the touchscreen aspect on it already, i'm sure i've seen postings either here or archosfans (seems to be down at mo) with someone who found a model of touchscreen lcd which is compatible/same as whats in the units.
think it cost about £70 though so might not be very cost effective
personally i'd just use keyboard/mouse/hdmi out and save up for a new (different make) one.
you can change the screen by yourself here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1083312
ANY screen damage is not covered by Archos warranty. They don't repair/replace anything that has to do with the screen.
About the only thing that they would cover is if the backlight died. Even that they would only cover if you hadn't ever opened the case up, because then you could have caused damage to it from the inside.
They will replace the device if the screen has mfg defects but not for anything like cracks/nicks.

Screen Issue

I have this weird problem on my Galaxy Tab. It seems like water is under the screen and I cannot get it out. I have put rice on it and left it in a box to see if it goes away but don't think it did anything. Now I have no idea how water got in there and believe it never even was dropped it water at all. Although other people do use the tablet and sometimes little kids. Any idea how to get rid of it

It's a long stretch, however you could try placing it in a sealable bag with some silica gel.
Otherwise, you're looking at dismantling the tab to check for internal damage.
I had this issue and ended up sending it in for repairs. They replaced the tab so I presume it is not easily fixed. Sorry
I've saw posts saying that putting the Tab in a fridge for a while would help with this problem - but even if that usually does work, I don't think it would work with a slick that big.
Best bet would be to send it in for repairs (you have warranty right?) - they'll most probably replace the tab with one that has a newer screen, where these defects supposedly don't happen (or happen very rarely).
I was hoping I wouldn't have to send it in. I don't believe I have the receipt anymore, would they care? I believe almost every company would ask for a receipt for warranty repairs but this tablet hasn't even been out for a whole year yet so I hope they will let me send it in. Also my tablet is rooted, should I unroot it, and if I had to unroot it what would be the easiest way?
I feel your pain. I only had mine fore a few days before it got sent away for a few weeks.
Yeah unroot it. And keep all your reciepts!
ha! there used to be 20-30 threads around here about this; sadly we have no forum moderation so I don't even blame people if they can't find it by searching. It's not water; caused by pressure on the back of the LCD. Search these forums for "newton's rings." This was a problem for a large percentage of the first run of the GT10.1. Most of us sent them in to Samsung and had them repaired. They know about the problem and won't question you at all. Like I said, search the forums for newton's rings and you'll find hundreds of answers.
My suggestion is to send it in to samsung (search to figure out how people did it). It doesn't affect the use of the tab, but it will affect resale value... It only took them about 2 weeks from the day I put it in the mail to the day I got it back. And yes: make a nandroid backup and then unroot and go back to stock before you send it in. When you get it back, it's as simple as installing CWM and then just flash the nandroid. (you can search for answers to how to do that, however. Or look in the dev section).
It's not water. Here's the really long discussion thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130230
I sent mine back to Verizon (I have the LTE 4G version) and got a replacement.

Awesome. Dropped my phone and cracked the screen -_-

I was squatting down to put something down on the ground. Was wearing Dickies shorts and had the phone in the cell phone pocket on the side of the pants. So really it was only about a foot or so off the ground, but somehow it still cracked the screen. There's a semi-circle in the upper left corner and another one in the lower right corner. And as I was sitting here researching replacement screens, I heard a weird noise from the phone. Looked at it and it cracked even more while it was sitting here! Now there's another BIG semi-circle going from the upper left one to basically the bottom left corner of the screen.
I'll try to take some pics if it's hard to understand.
But I found this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxgZeb5QytM
...looks like it's gonna be a pain in the ass to change it out. The nice thing about the site in that video's description is the replacement screens are like $30, and they even have the surrounding part for another $15 or so, so I can replace the scuffed surround as well.
I need to see how the insurance will handle it, but when I had insurance through Verizon and I dropped my iPhone 4, I basically had to pay the discounted price for a replacement. I guess it's better than having to pay full price, but that still sucks.
Anyone had to replace their screen yet? Was it hard?
I might do a mini-tutorial depending on how the insurance handles it.

Having Verizon insurance pays for itself. You drop or 'lose' your phone. It's 100 for a new one. And they overnight for free.

Insurance is going to be wwwaayyy better than having to replace via the video method. About a third of the way through I got fatigued watching it. lol

I believe it's 150 for these more expensive phones, but yeah. ....way worth it. They also give you a rufurbished one but I used to buy refurbs and could never tell that it wasn't brand new. I'm afraid if you jack it up trying to do it yourself they may not honor the insurance?

Well the thing is I don't have insurance yet. I've had the phone for just over a week now and the Verizon representative said I had a couple weeks to add it to my plan.. I'm hoping I can add it and then call the next day and be like "oh I just dropped it" lol.
I'll call tomorrow and see what happens I guess...

You don't even have to call them. Right now it's Verizon's insurance "open enrollment" so you can add insurance to any contract phone within 2 years.

Another Ultra bites the dust

Bought a new ultra 2 months ago plus a decent case that I used from day one. This weekend I BARELY crouched while having the phone in my pocket, and voilá.

It looks like it bent right in the middle of the phone where the power button is. I did not remove the ASF and im not sure which cracked: the glass, the touchscreen or the ASF.. or all of them. Phone still works although i cant use the display, it feels like the touchscreen is fine but the glass or ASF is pressing against it. Its the first time I face this kind of issue with a device, what should I do? Will Sony's warranty cover it? If not how much can this replacement cost? Should I relock the BL before taking it to the SAT?
Cover used while in pocket:
Relock the bootloader and try getting it fixed through warranty. I don't think it'll cost you anything and my buddy had that happen and they sent him a brand one.

I've just been notified that Sony's warranty wont include my broken glass and they are asking for 230€ to get it fixed. A phone I bought 3 months ago for 350€. This is terribly frustrating, I didnt want a 600€ phone.
Can anyone advice me what is my best option? Fix it or get another model? Is it possible to sell the broken one for spare parts or similar? The phone is working, I can use it with a OTG mouse. Its the glass that is messing the display.
Thank you.
save your money and find some device that suite your needs and buy it... I would never pay that money to get the phone repaired.
Sell it for spare parts might..perhaps work. Try ebay or something ...or hook it up to your tv with mhl and otg and turn it in to a android computer or something I dunno. Perhaps with a bluetooth keyboard, remote control or mouse
you could try and replace the screen your self, there are a few bod around that have done it
It's disappointing - although not unusual, I guess - that Sony seems so inconsistent in how it's handling warranty cases. It seems obvious that this is a design fault with the phone (some or all) when so many people claim it happens all too easily. pemell had the exact same thing happen, the retailer wanted cash to fix it, and Sony took the cost after being notified of that. Could you try your retailer, or try again with Sony?

I think I've seen cheaper
OT
what they do have that I may get is "Sony D5503 Xperia Z1 Compact - Sim Card Reader"
I picked up a very cheap ZU that was sold as 'no service' and I thought it might just need a reflash - but not so.
Hey man, I just wanted to ask if you had any screen protector on this??
If not I would recommend Tempered Glass, it might have just saved your phone even though this didn't break on impact, just by bending over which is really odd...
