Anyone interested in making that happen using galaxy s3 or s2 rom on our device?
I have compared htc and samsaung cameras and found out that even with same or lower MP, Samsaung got higher quality photos.
So I hope that someone could build the samsaung camera app or the samsaung rom.
Well hope it can happen

There's more that goes into a camera than just the MP, that said you would never get a fully functional touchwiz ROM on an HTC device, not that it would make your photos look better anyways.

Your asking for ALOT! And like posted above, more goes into the camera then just MP, just cause some have better quality then the other doesnt mean that its because of its camera.apk! Maybe read more and do some learning?!?

So, I'm thinking about rooting and installing a custom rom on my European Samsung Galaxy S II. But I've had some previous experiences regarding custom roms on my HTC Desire, whereas the quality of the still pictures and video recordings shot with the camera was drastically decreased. Still pictures looked horrible, and it was not possible to record video in 720 due to a huge amount of lag and stutter. This was the case with the three roms I flashed the HTC Desire with.
I'm not really educated on this subject, so I hope you guys can give me some information.
Will installing a custom rom affect the quality of still pictures/video recordings?
If so, what is the reason for this?

That doesn't happen on samsung phones at all, must be an htc thing.
If you care that much about camera quality, stick with Touchwiz ROMs. Flashing CM7 or MIUI will decrease the picture and video quality as they use AOSP apps which are worse than Samsung ones.
If you install a custom Samsung rom you should be fine but if you install cm7 or miui I've noticed the quality ain't as high

Okay, thanks. What is the reason for the decrease of quality?

I've used both cm7 and miui and both cameras are noticeably poorer than stock. I may be wrong but may be due to drivers or something as they are aosp based roms. But don't go by my word on reasoning. The pictures look fine on the phone but once you view them on a bigger screen you see the differences in quality.
When I get time I want to test various camera apps and compare them to stock using same conditions, don't think we have a thread like that.

Yeah, okay. I've been looking for threads like that, but I haven't found any. If you decide to go through with it, send me a PM with a link to the thread
when the ics update comes out for the s2 will there be zero camera lag like the nexus?
or is there some kernal that can do this?
From what I've heard the camera "speed" is down to both software and hardware
Although the software will (I think) be improved, the hardware is the same so at best it will be a bit faster.
There probably won't be a change though.

I think it is totally possible depending on if the software in the ics build works well with the camera hardware of the sgs2.
I know the hardware is capable on the sgs2 because when I shoot in burst mode using "Camera FX" I can shoot 32 photos in under 5 seconds

That's at a low resolution though, not the full 8mp.
Using fast burst camera I can take shots at 480x800 roughly every 0.03 seconds (tested using an online stopwatch )
I like the idea, but I think I'd rather just have have properly focused pics...

If you focus the first shot won't the subsequent shots use the same focus?
Should be fine for most cases if the subject is the same distance away from you
The S3 is supposed to have Improved 8MP camera over the S2.What are the improvements as the lens remains same i.e. f2.6 .
Is there a new sensor in S3 that can actually take better photos or just the Software is improved to take advantage of the quad core processing.

I find it's much better than SGSII, faster to startup and much faster focus also in low light condition. For me this results in better pictures.
How does the camera compare to the iPhone 4S' camera in low-lighting conditions? I know the Galaxy S II really compare.
There's already a big camera discussion going on here.
Do we need a new thread?
Ohk thanks will ask my qn tgere

It's the same camera module as the iPhone 4s.. Both sourced from Sony.

galaxy s3 has BSI sensor as well better for low light images but s2 didnt had it
Using the SGS3 camera on another android?
hi guys,
Just got one question: I've got a spare sgs3 rear camera (from a broken s3), just wondering how difficult it would be to use the camera module on another android device, I don't mean another phone but an android based experiment board like raspberry pi (I know raspberry pi isn't android but there's loads of android boards similar)
I mean what would you need? Drivers etc? Surely could I not just copy samsungs drivers for the camera?
Any feedback would be hot.
Thanks
I found that stock rom takes better photos then cm 10.1.
Anyone knows a way to fix it?
In stock rom photos are crystal clear and in CM 10.1 they are in many cases looks like taken in high iso and do not look clear (when shooting indoors).
hey there man
it's a known issue because Samsung refuses to release their source code.
there isn't really a fix for this but you may try a different camera app that may produce a better results.

I can't accept that in all the galaxy models , camera will work badly in CM , which is one of the most popular roms out there!
Anyone know more about this issue?

any answer?
I switched from a Samsung rom to an Aosp rom a week or so ago, and while I'm loving most things about it, I really find the default Android camera lacking compared to the Samsung one. The Samsung camera has better focusing, much, much easier to navigate menus, takes better night shots, has stabilization, and seems to consistently take better pictures. Is there any way to get it to work on aosp? I remember there being a way to do it on the s3. If not, what camera apps do you guys use?

Unfortunately you will be unable to use the samsung camera app on aosp. I purchased camera zoom fx and use that. I also have heard people recommending snap hd camera but I haven't personally tried it. The picture quality doesn't seem to be as good on aosp as touchwiz. It's a trade off of running aosp but worth it imo.

i reccommend the motorola one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387369
i also like the Camera Zoom app. But the motox one is best.
Thanks for the suggestions guys. I'll give your ideas a try. I've used HDR camera before with good results, but I'd like an all around good app. I think I'll try the moto one first. EDIT: I tried the moto one. I love the interface, but there are no settings for anything such as video or picture quality, or storage location.
