Ok I just got a white evo 3d as my back up phone and I want to root it. Ive been looking at the development page at all the (how to root) forums and It looks like the 1.50 cant be rooted right now. So i wanted to know...
1. Is it true that the 1.50 is not rootable at the moment?
2. I work at a sprint repair center if I flash one of the older shooter softwares will that make it say 1.3 or 1.4, and eventually allow me to root?
3. Is there anyone trying to develop a root solution for the 1.50?
This is pretty much my questions for now any answers are greatly appreciated, Im currently on a Nexus S and im staying on it untill Iget the 3d rooted so I can at least use wifi tether.

1. Search around, there is a way but you can only load roms using fastboot and some dos trickery, its a pain right now
2.Yes, I would do this if you can, the 1.4 root is easier IMO.
3. Like I said there is one its just not the optimum solution yet.
HTC's method works and is not that big of a pain once set up. I can begin flashing a ROM in less than a minute and have also flashed kernels and have never had a problem. I updated to the new twrp last night and all is well. Make sure you understand and follow all of the set up steps. Link below.

Oh and WiFi tether will work too depending on your Rom. I'm on cleanrom de and it is fully, functional, smooth, and fast.
Yeah its really not that big of a deal once you have your phone rooted. You can also use this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16808235#post16808235 if you want to install ClockworkMod Recovery. This writeup is a little more detailed and walks you through it step by step. TWRP Recovery is my preferred recovery but you can flash that once you get everything setup.
I prefer to use Amon Ra recovery over clockwork mod. Does the Evo 3d have that option?
Ok so when i got into work i looked on here and saw that there are roots for the 1.50. I guess waking up so early my eyes were not adjusting to myu comp screen and i didnt see it lol, but i appriciate all you guys help and input. I will attempt this as soon as sprint can fix my ESN in the system got the phone and the esn was never put into the data base wtf? so Im waiting for the email with the ok to activate.

Hi Everybody,
I have seen the recent posts and guides regarding unrooting especially the guide from Twolazyg. Only problem is, I am already running the stock Sprint 651.3 rom. I always backed up my stock rom and would switch back to update it and I did just that this time to get 651.5 without the pesky CIQ software. I am aware of how to relock the bootloader as per htc instructions but then again I'm not sure of what to do. When I rooted I installed cwm 4.0.1.4 through the method at htcevohacks.com then TWRP came out and I flashed twrp 2.0.0RC0 over cwm. Never had a problem with TWRP so I know it isn't the recovery. I didn't get Flashimage GUI so I was always using fastboot to install roms. Also, I never used the android sdk (at least I think I didn't because its not on my computer) so not too sure when someone says use adb in the instructions. Oh yea, I'm also a noob so take it easy if you can lol.
Initially, I installed a custom rom after rooting and unlocking my bootloader via htc method. Then I wasn't too happy with the roms and just decided to stay rooted but keep my stock rom. I installed app quarantine to freeze some of the unused system apps like friendstream, peep, stocks, etc.. Before I did the update I brought all the apps out of quarantine incase anything screwy happened with app updates.
Fast forward to today, and now after 651.5 update my phone is literally restarting. It keeps booting up to my lock screen and it holds for 1 minute then it just restarts. It's sitting in front of me right now and as I type it has restarted at least 10 times as I have been watching it. It actually started acting up after I let out all the apps from app quarantine yesterday so 651.3 was already screwy with system apps unquarantined.
So I'm trying to unroot and relock so I can send this baby back to Sprint and get a replacement. Already did a master a reset three times and nothing works in terms of stopping the constant rebooting.
I'm just wondering where do I start with any of the steps. Should I just follow the guide exactly or do I have to take different steps???
Thanks

Well first off, Flash Image GUI is a great program, so I want to provided my biased opinion as the author!
Off the top of my head, I am really temped to say your currently rebooting issue could very well be software related and not hardware related.
Moving around system applications, "freezing" and "unfreezing", I personally don't view as the most reliable method.
I view returning the device as the last ditch effort and giving up because everything else has failed and the issue is most likely hardware related.
If you're interested in troubleshooting the issue further, running the RUU, should return the system partition and the kernel back to a completely stock state at which point the rebooting should stop.
If the rebooting stops, then you'll know the issue was trigger by something software related and not hardware related.
Many of the RUU files for the EVO 3D are located at http://www.goo-inside.me/shooter/ruu . The directions/guides are posted all over the place on how to properly process an RUU but they are really fairly simple and bring the device back to 100% stock state.
Hope that helps and good luck!
Thanks for your input joey but weird thing is, when I have my evo 3d plugged in to my pc it does not continuously reboot. For the hour or so I've had it plugged in, it hasn't rebooted at all. It is completely usable. After unplugging it, the reboot cycle begins and it is unusable.
I wanted ask for some help because I never installed android sdk or did anything through adb at all. So if someone says "do it via ADB" I will have no clue as to what to do to fix my phone. I have installed sdk and platform tools to try and relock my bootloader but I'm not sure what to do. I mean, I went back to htc dev step 14, which is to relock I just have to type in fastboot oem lock but because I never did it via sdk method. So I guess I should follow the same method in my TWRP 2.0 folder then? Because I see a file called adb.exe
So, based on Twolazyg's instructions, would I have to put my phone in recovery via fastboot. Then type in the command prompt adb reboot bootloader. Then go to Hboot to flash the RUU and finally type in fastboot oem lock. Is this right???
I tried the instructions provided by Twolazyg but I can't get the first step to work...
So, I hold power + volume down and select fastboot.
Connect to pc with usb cable.
Open up cmd.exe and type in:
cd Desktop\Evo3DTwrp
Then follow instructions.
I type in adb reboot bootloader and then nothing happens.
I get this message on my computer:
* daemon not running. starting it now *
* daemon started sucessfully *
error: device not found
What am I doing wrong???
All I wanna do is unroot so I can return this phone for a new one...
Nevermind people, figured it out lol
Was about to Rage Quit but it works.
Got the RUU working and no longer have superuser and bootloader says relocked
Will now try the update to 651.5 then contemplate a return...

regarding "adb", this binary is kept inside the android-sdk directory and under the subdirectory platform-tools.
many times ppl extract the adb.exe and the accompanying .dll file, package these two up into their "one click" tools and distribute.
personally, i prefer to grab the official android-sdk from google and their associate adb.exe instead of using copies distributed by other users.
hopefully that helps clarify some of the details around adb!

glad it worked out. if any guides/posts were specifically helpful to you, feel free to post back your solution in case anybody else comes across this thread with the same issue.

glad to hear the issue was resolved!
@joeykrim
Everything works, but back to rooting for me until Sprint gets their **** together with 651.5 update. I took my phone in for service today after unrooting and relocking the bootloader. I was curious as to why my 3g speeds hover around 100kbps when they're usually at 800-1000kbps. According to the tech, who was running a custom rom on his Epic 4G Touch, he told me the update contained a prl that was screwy and it caused speed issues. I can confirm this with the other two evo 3ds on my account that have never been rooted/modded because they're just as slow with loading up web pages and working with apps. It was prl 21083 that is just not working out with data speed.
On Speed Test, I would put up a screen shot but I'm currently working on rooting lol, the latency would always be around 800ms and the fastest speed I got was 121kbps. There are no outages in my area because I called CS yesterday to set up my appointment and they said the towers are working normally. So it seems the 651.5 update is adds a snappyness to the UI but instead of speeding up the internet, it makes for a rather unpleasant internet experience and makes one question their "truly unlimited data and premium data fee."
So I'm gonna put TWRP back on my phone and pick a new rom based on 651.3 because of the screwed up prl unless I can keep my 651.5 and change the prl.
@Hiya buddy
I have a Sprint evo 3d flashed to reliance (carrier in india). I was on a sense 3.5 rom. I heard about this update and i restored my nandroid of stock ROM. Then i relocked it and flashed RUU (2.08.651.3). And accepted the OTA. Everything is working fine for me. No PRL's / Settings changed. My phone still works on reliance........
I did the same thing, restoring my nandroid backup of OTA 651.3 and did the update. After update 3g speeds are atrocious on Sprint, as for the software the phone is a bit snappier and more fluid than before.
hboot 1.5 s-off. Is this a true s-off or whats the deal
This past weekend I rooted my 3D evo and my girlfriends 3D evo. I had a bunch of problems during the process with mine. receiving 4g on the blackened rom, had to go into the msl settings a couple times, ect.... then when all was said and done, at the boot menu it said s-off.
On the other hand, when i rooted my girlfriends evo 3D, I had no issues at all went through really easily then at the end her's said s-on! I was baffled, I had used the same process, and both of our phones have hboot 1.5?
Does this mean I can install roms from recovery? I have a the full (I think it's revolutionary) recovery on it. Options to install from zip and all.
However I did try and install a custom kernal from kernal manager and had to reinstall the blackened rom (Which is awsome btw) because I couldn't get 4G or wifi. (RCMIX Kernal). When i tried to flash a new kernal over the rcmix, it went through the process rebooted...then nothing still had the RCMIX kernal? So I reinstalled blackened. Totally fine, everything working 100%.
Any explainations, I haven't been able to find anyone with 1.5 hboot s-off doing a google search, only people who say it's coming soon. I also figured this would be the best place to post this considering there is no hboot 1.5 general section. if there is please move this there.
Thanks in advance

Hboot 1.5 s-off is not possible at the moment. Probably wouldn't be worth it to the devs at this point in time with ICS around the corner. That OTA update will most likely change the bootloader.
sent from America....F__k yeah!
@sag04463 Jabawockee is right, that doesn't seem possible. And your issue is a common problem with Hboot 1.5. You gotta get the Flashimage GUI from joeykrim or you could do it via fastboot and remember a few simple commands. That 4G/Wifi issue seems to only be problematic with Hboot 1.5 because HTC didn't fully unlock the bootloader or something (Experts, take it easy on me I'm not sure about this) and it doesn't allow for the installation of custom kernels.
I am a little rusty when it comes to flashing. I finally decided to unlock and flash last night. I use to flash my evo4G all the time (I still keep a friends evo up with Cyanogen Mod) but the 3D I kept stock up until now. I bought the 3D on release day and ended up updating my hboot to 1.5, should have rooted then but oh well. I did the HTC unlock and it works fine. Everything is a little different on the 3D since I never had to use fastboot before. Spent hours reading before I did anything. Just wanted to make sure I did this correctly.
Here is what I did last did (did htc unlock per HTC instructions, went fine)
flashed a recovery via fastboot (tried latest build of clockwork it flashed but it wouldn't boot) Latest build of clockwork touch did however work just fine. However I wanted to flash Infected for my first rom along with the AnthraX v2 Kernel. I was reading about the AnthraX kernel and it recommend I use TeamWin recover instead for the kernel flash. So I flashed the latest TeamWin via fastboot and then booted it via fast boot. Did factory reset, then clear cache, then dalavik. Then while still in recovery flashed the virus superwiper zip, then the Data Optimizer tool (if someone could explain what this is I have no idea what it does or if I need it couldn't find much info on what it actually does) Then flashed Infected rom, then did factory reset cleared cache and dalvik. Then flashed Anthrax Shooter Test 6 for Sense which there were some multiple kernels didn't know which one was the best one for this rom. Everything flashed fine and the phone did load the kernel correctly. However I noticed the 3D didn't work on it so I decided I don't wanna use it.
I reflashed this morning with the same above steps except I just didn't flash a kernel now running 192 build with the kernel it came with. 3D seems to work fine now. Before I go through and set everything up I just wanna make sure I did everything correctly. I'm not really that new to this kinda thing, I use to flash MightyRom back in the day on my Touch Pro and I keep my friends evo up. This is just a little different with the fast boot thing and wanna make sure I did it correctly. Also do I need to run there superwiper zip every time before a flash or is data reset and clearing the cache the same thing? Also if I am applying the data optimizer correctly and do I really need it I have no idea what it does. Am I going to be missing much without a custom kernel? Only reason I wanted to try Anthrax was cause of the beats by dre but it broke the 3D and I don't use headphones that much with the phone so I would rather have my 3D work.
I REALLY like the rom thus far, I can't believe how much smoother it is compare to stock

I've never flashed the superwipe or data optimizer ever.
The proof is in the pudding.. after your phone boots did it flash the rom and kernel properly? Easy way to check is settings > about phone. The kernel you can't tell as easily, but the rom you should be able to just look and tell if it's heavily customized.
Been running now for a couple days, everything is super smooth no issues. I decided just to use the kernel included with infected so my 3D works. The anthrax kernel broke the 3D but yes it did say Anthrax when I did try it. I think as long as you boot recovery using fastboot you are pretty much home free. So so far so good but was more so curious what superwipe did and the data optimizer oppose to just wiping using recovery. I don't really care about overclocking my phone that much so I don't really see the benefit of using a custom kernel at least for me. I couldn't really tell any difference with the Anthrax Kernel vs the stock one other than the broken 3D. Then again I didn't use it that long but my setup now seems to be working well.
Hey guys! Many people believe you must flash the new firmware to run Sense 3.6 Virgin Mobile leak based ROMS. I am here to prove you wrong and show you a very very simple work around!
THIS IS FOR HBOOT 1.50 S-ON USERS ONLY.
Here's how:
ALWAYS REMEMBER DO A NANDROID BACKUP!!!
1. Download a Sense 3.6 ROM for you EVO 3D. Here's a list:
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/24783-evo3d04-mayromcdmavirtuous-quattro-sense-edition-100-rc2-sense-36-android-403/ (I used this ROM, Virtuous Quattro!)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1634807 (Unlike above, this one has tweaks.)
http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?12441-Booster-Shot-RC2-5-7-2012-Boost-Kingdom-Rom-Ported-to-the-EVO-3D (Also has tweaks.)
2. Make sure the ROM is on the root of your EVO 3D's SD card. This will make things easier later.
3. Download this kernel here (THE GODLY FIX!!!): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/24995663/AnthraX-htcleak-stockfirmwaretest.zip Place it on the root of your SD card.
4. Shutdown your phone, remove and re-insert the battery, then start into HBOOT (Volume down and power) and boot into recovery. (I have 4-ext recovery.)
5. First wipe all your phones data. Wipe the boot, data, and system partitions and wipe cache and dalvik cache.
6. Flash your ROM. DO NOT reboot.
7. Flash the "AnthraX-htcleak-stockfirmwaretest.zip" file.
8. Reboot and enjoy. You have successfully installed fully working Sense 3.6!!! Congrats!!!
THANKS TO chad.goodman FOR THIS GREAT FIX.
LIST OF ISSUES IN THE KERNEL:
3D doesn't work properly.
USB Mounting not working.
ON THE BRIGHTER SIDE:
4G works!!!
WiFi works!!!
3G works!!!
Rear camera works in 2D!!!
Front facing camera works!!! (FACE UNLOCK)
Virtually everything elseā¦
Is this a new kernel from Chad because with his previous leaked kernel, 3D and USB were not functioning. I'm S-OFF now but I used this when I was HBOOT 1.5 S-ON and it brought ICS to a lot of us who got boot loops with the stock kernel so much kudos to Chad.
Looks like it's the same test kernel that he released before. I don't think there has been any further development on that and he is moving on to a kernel based off the Evo 3D/Sensation ICS kernel so those that had issue will be stuck with his test kernel unless they get s-off which I'm planning to do soon.
Guys, It worked 100% for me on Virtuous Quattro. USB storage didn't work, but it fixed my Sense 3.6 boot loop issue. If you DO have the issue, take a chance and flash the kernel. I am trying to be helpful.
MY SETUP:
HBOOT 1.50 S-ON
4-EXT RECOVERY
YOU SHOULD USE 4-ext RECOVERY IF YOU DON'T ALREADY
Ya this works great besides WiFi. There is no ssm clamping options in the setting menu so can't check it so don't work. Tried sereval roms and all are the same. Hope we can find a way to fix this and I be happy camper. I loaded viper, mik, and clean. Tried deleting the app and redownloading it from market ...no luck
What am I missing? I've been on MeanROM ICS since he released it. I even dirty flashed it right over his GB ROMs and it's been flawless since day 1.
hboot 1.4 s off and there is no way I was ever going to flash VM firmware.
Who/what is making this so difficult?
Edit: clarified in the OP.. disregard.
Answer
People with HBOOT 1.50 S-ON will be able to use this fix.

This is for hboot 1.5 s-on. Prior to this fix phone would boot and just as loads up it reboot and start over on n on. I been fighting this issue for two weeks. Now I have ics running great beside 2 listed issues
Once S-Off is achieved by whatever means, you should not have any issues flashing any of the ICSense ROMs. Although many have been successful using the bricked method I have never been to fond of "breaking" (bricking) something to then "fix it" (downgrade). And even though the wire trick seems risky, it was very simple to follow. I definitely recommend it for anyone gong thru what I was going thru... Now bootloops are a thing of the past!

ROM: ZR3DX 1.1
HBoot: 1.5 (and proud) S-Off

Ahh, come on man..just brick it!! lol..seriously I was in the same boat as you until this past weekend when I finally downgraded my bootloader. I was scared as hell at the thought of bricking my phone on purpose! But, it was crazy simple using the live cd. At no point was I like "wtf". I say give it a try.

My friend recently got a used Sprint HTC Evo 3D which he got flashed over to MetroPCS, he was wondering if this would affect anything for flashing custom ROMs to his phone. He wants to make sure if flashing a ROM would not kick him out of the MetroPCS service or does nothing and just flashes the ROM like any other EVO 3D with the Sprint service.

I have been on metro and the tech flashed it . I have the evo 3-d 1.50 S-on Locked, and it was returned to me with rom manager installed and
S-On and locked and only getting 3g. I then proceeded to unlock through evohacks instructions and I finally got root through fastboot
usb commands, installed CWM recovery and flashed roms. Be careful,IMO one should be totally S-Off and go back to 1.40 hboot in order to
flash practiacally any evo rom and especially seperate kernals. I once installed the Antrax kernal on a rom through flash UI and had some trouble, but I always do BACK -UP NANDROID BU FIRST and foremost. Sometimes it works but you have to really read and read and read in order to understand whats happening on your internal OS and internal USB/External USB--ETC. Take your time and read what others with ur phone and same set-up go through!. Patience..is the KEY. Alll these Mods here will help you but they have to know what exactly U want or need. Learn terminology too, all the Abbs' Etc. Don't forget to give praise where and when it is due. Ima noob and will probably always be one
but some of these moderators are PROS. IMO probably All are...
Hope this helps. LUCK!

LUCK!
