Hi guys, I have a quick question. My GF dropped her Note in water, did the whole rice thing for a day and a half and it started. However it was rooted and running Goldie. It got stuck at the boot screen and kept looping. Ended up installnig a stock rom and booted up fine but very unstable. Went back to root and install roms but won't boot and gets stuck at the boot screen looping. When I reinstall the stock rom it boots just fine. Any suggestions guys? (Yes I am doing full wipes before installing the roms).
Is it under warranty? I'd flash stock then turn it in for repair because I don't think its a software problem but hardware from water damage

Warranty won't cover water damage.

Rice is a (poor) desiccant. It's better to use real desiccant. And I hope he removed the battery IMMEDIATELY and kept it out. Even at that, there's an event of chance as to if the phone will be the same after.
I've used the phone and battery in a bag of rice technique 3 times with past phones and it has saved all of them. it really depends on how long you left the battery in after you dropped it in the liquid since thats what shorts all the electronics inside.
well we have insurance on the phone, just didn't want to resort to it as there is a $199 deductible. Oh wells, just have to eat it. I just found it weird how it will only boot the stock rom and not boot other roms, period.

Agree very weird
I'd try odin-ing a rooted rom before paying deductible, nothing to lose
I guess the stock from prefers rice.

Was it a swimming pool. I walked into a pool with my note in my pocket of my trunks. Stupid. I tried to save mine, even dissembled (very easy to do) and the chlorine in the water corroded the boards so bad it was impossible.

What i do to water damage phones is to remove battery ASAP. Then disassemble, and scrub around with tooth brush and alcohol. Let dry and check out other connections just in case of corrosion and hit them with alcohol. Sometimes with water damage, the battery will be toast as well. This has worked with me and may not ever work for anyone else and WILL void your warranty. So its always up to you, im just saying what i would do and have done with other phones. Wish ya luck!

That's weird, I dropped my HTC hd2 in my pool after only having it for 4 months and in the deep side, pulled it out, took it apart and left it inside a Tupperware of uncooked rice for a week and when I put it back together it turned on and still had a charge in the battery, the battery only lasted me a month after that but the phone now after 2 years still works like a champ and is running cm9 overclocked without missing a beat.

Well it was short lived. I got my EVO on lanch date and this after noon the unthinkable happened . I was showing my friend a picture and she fumbled the phone, droped on a concreteflor face down. We just looked at it for a couple of seconds in disbelief. I wjent to pick it up and it looked like this.

I dropped my 3vo on day 2 onto my concrete patio, it was about a 4 foot drop. Thankfully I had my hard rubberized case on it and not a scratch was made, not even to the case!
I've dropped mine, but luckily it was only a 2 ft drop or so and landed flat on it's back. I was pissed. First time I've dropped my phone in about 2 years, and it happens just a couple days after I get my 3D.

Ouch!!! Don't feel too bad. I dropped my launch day Evo 4G at work barely a week after having it & it looked just like that! Luckily your getting it replaced so quickly. Took me almost a month to get a replacement. They were sold out everywhere & Assurion couldn't keep them in stock. I did get a brand new one though, with all the accessories. Then 2 weeks before the 3D came out I dropped that one 4 floors down the elevator shaft at work. It's still there submerged in about a 1 1/2 ft of water & hydraulic oil. Lost phone, one of my 3500 Seidio batteries, extended case & my 32GB class 10. Talk about hurt! I still get tears thinking about it.

My accelerometer and proximity sensor are broken and im planning on sending the phone in since it is still under its one year warranty. However, a couple of days ago my nephew got a hold of it and dropped it from about two feet up on to some concrete
the crack is just at 5mm, and i really dont want to pay for a new phone if i send this one in, so i guess i am looking for some piece of mind. also, the back kickstand has normal wear-and-tear and nothing traumatic has happened. Should i be in the clear to send it in for a CLNR phone?
i have to post a couple more times to link to pictures, but what have you guys gotten away with damage wise when returning it?

This is just a questionare in hopes that I'm not the only idiot who has done something retarded unintentionally and broke their phone. So I somehow thought that putting my phone under my halogen desk lamp on max would generate enough heat to remove the air bubbles from my newly installed ZAGG screen protector as the instructions say "heat will speed up the process." Well after about 20 minutes or so i picked up the phone and damn near burnt myself it was so hot. Dismantled it as quick as I could and let it cool for 45 minutes and of course melted the screen underneath the glass
Dropped my blackberry 8330 2 feet on fluffy carpet and cracked the screen in multiple spots pretty bad. Nothing before hand.

I sent an old Samsung flip phone on a journey through the washer and dryer late one night. I woke up wondering where my phone was and found it when I went to get my pants out of the dryer. Only phone I have owned that met an accidental demise that was the fault of a human or animal, it also led to my first smartphone, Treo 600.
I've never broken a phone. I tend to take really, really good care of my expensive toys.
The wife did wash and dry an LG env, but it never skipped a beat and still works to this day.
I placed my EVO 4g on top of the fridge in a rush. I didn't realize my EVO was half way on the freezer door till I opened it. Fell face down and shattered the s#&t out of the screen. I kind of deserved it for putting it up there in the first place.

The other night I stupidly hit a can of coke over onto my rez. I soaked it in rice and everything is functioning except for the proximity sensor and a mark that was caused by the liquid. The mark is getting larger constantly and now has most of my screen taken over. The touch screen still functions there but the mark is a gigantic nuisance. I also checked behind the battery and there isn't a sticker to detect water. So if there is no definite indicator that it was liquid damage should I take my phone to verizon, should I just cut my losses and buy an off contract phone, or should I just suck it up and deal with it?
Sent from my HTC Rezound using Tapatalk 2
There is supposed to be one on the edge of the battery itself, one in one of the screwholes of the red chassis cover, and one on the internal board near the headphone jack.
Make your own risk assessment based on the location of the liquid relevant to those areas, and know that sugar still may leave a telling residue after drying.
If there is no sticker, I would assume they would immediately think you removed it, thereby voiding your warranty. If they catch it after you've sent it in, you're SOL.

I dropped my last rezound in the toilet.. it completely submerged and after grabbing it and trying to get the back cover off to pull the battery (with wet hands :/) as I'm sure you can imagine how long that took. After getting the battery out I let it sit in rice for 36hrs booted back up and had zero problems.. that being said when I returned my rezound for over heating issues over five months ago Verizon didn't/ still hasn't said anything about it. And i seriously doubt they'll pull part every rezound that got sent back. Especially of it boots up..

I had something similar happen with a thunderbolt. I had a bottle of snapple break open in my backpack, and it just doused my phone. I let it dry out, and it booted, then immediately hard bricked. Mine came off accidently on purpose about a week after I bought the phone and life has been better because of it.
Mine fell off the 2nd day after I got it, which was release day. It fell off naturally but I would have ended up ripping it off anyway eventually so I didn't even try to fix it.
First time I went to charge my phone I saw that off and ripped it off myself. Those things always annoy me beyond all reason.
HTC needs to read this thread. Not only do we all hate the flap, theres also a quality control issue to be assessed. For this many people to have had it just fall off naturally is embarrassing to say the least for HTC. Whoever let this idea make it to the production model made the wrong decision. I hope they don't do this again in the future.
