Rooting a phone is all about changing your kernel . So what you are saying is not possible .

Rooting requires "CF-root" <-- which is a kernel so you can't possibly root your phone without changing stock kernel.
All you can do is root your phone and flash OFFICIAL stock firmware afterwards

just root ur phone with chain fire method in development and your kernel wouldnt be changed.

Root information

Heya,
I just read d procedure for rooting via odin ,flashing an insecure kernel then rooting via superoneclick and then flashing again a secure kernel.i want to know in this process ,do i lose my personal data like.contacts calenders ,music ,pics etc.
And yes isnt there a one step process to root the s2 like there is for galaxy s,which is ,just download and app and press root? If not ,why?

Flash the cf root kernel and it roots automatically and gives you CWM. There are instructions on the cf kernel site also how to remove the yellow triangle too

No benefit at all unless you want or need to use apps that require root access .
principle would be Titanium back up or CWM full rom backup .
As a fer instance i have just backed up all my apps via Titanium backup pro followed by a full backup of the phones firmware to wipe the phone test a custom rom and roll-it all back if needs be.

thanks for reply mate, think i will just leave it as it is

Hi there,

Basically i'm a noob to all the rooting stuff and I want to learn, I been looking at doom's rooting kit and he advises backing up your phone, and installing a adb driver for my phone.. How do I go about backing up my phone and installing these drivers?
My phones a samsung galaxy s2
It is Pretty easy to root a samsung galaxy s2
1. Flash an insecure kernel using ODIN
2. Root it with either SuperOneClick or S2Root.
3. Enjoy.
There are many guides to help you check them out
If you really read on to the doom rootkit. It have mention how to do it.

[Q] New phone. Best approach to root and go to ICS? (version problems?)

tl, dr: brand new SG S2. Want to get CF-Root v5 CWM5, CM9, Siyah kernel 3.
I've been reading a lot of threads here lately, but I'm still confused about some things.
I'm new to android, but not so new to most concepts mentioned as I'm a linux user.
So I have a brand new SG S2 and want to root it and install CM9 (ICS) in it.
But before that, ideally I'd like to backup my phone (rom + efs). But to do that I have to flash CF-root, which itself modifies the stock kernel. So I'll lose my stock kernel.
1) Any work around to this? In linux?
My understanding is that this will get me the yellow triangle. And on CF thread he explains how to get rid of it. But the problem is that I checked the stock kernel thread here and I don't see my firmware there.
(4) Find an original Samsung signed stock kernel (preferably from the same stock firmware you have, but it's not terribly important)

My firmware is PDA: I9100BUKG2 and PHONE: I9100BUKG1.
Do I only need to care about the KG1/KG2 reference? And which one is more important the PDA or PHONE?
So for example would XWKG1 do the trick?
There is also the issue of CF-Root upgrade. For my phone only CF-Root v4.1-CWM4 is available (I have PDA *KG2 and PHONE *KG1).
2) So after I flash CF-Root v4.1-CWM4, get root, backup my phone with CWM and k-tool, can I upgrade to CF-Root v5? Or am I stuck to v4?

Other kernels
Replacing CF-Root with other kernels and vice-versa sometimes works, sometimes it doesn't. I don't have a list.
When going from CF-Root to another kernel, root will usually stay, while CWM will be lost (unless the other kernel also includes it), but there should not be issues. The CWM Manager app may remain, but probably won't do anything useful.

3) Does this means it's impossible to upgrade to CF-Root v5 or to use the Siyah kernel?
How can I solve this?
Sorry if this post is somewhat confusing, I'm a bit confused myself
Thanks for any help.
Pmed u dude
Mod or Die
1.) There are a few BUKG2 on samfirmware.com. Not sure which one your provider is though. Once you upgrade to ICS (CM9(, you can use the triangle away in the original development thread to remove the yellow triangle and reset counter (works only for ICS) so that is one option for you.
Regarding the kernel, go under settings, about phone and see what it says under kernel (KG1 or KG2).
2) Once you root and get CWM, you can just flash a different kernel with the updated CWM to get v5. You could also just install the siyah kernel from V4 as it comes with its own version of CWM.
3) You will be fine with flashing most kernels from CF-kernel. Most kernel for the i9100 in xda includes CWM or sometimes its own version of CWM.
I used zergrush exploit to root my gf her i9100 with 2.3.5. Used root explorer to grab efs directory.
Then i had root so i could use mobile odin. Now phone is on litening 4.0.3 ics rom probably still with gb bootloader.
No triangle yet
Gonna flash ics bootloader through odin and move to cm9 nightlies tomorrow.

The zergrush exploit requires
(1) make sure u have installed adb drivers for ur device

What exactly does this mean?
Do I need to install the SDK? Or do I only need the adb executable file? Or is there any SG S2 specific file that I need to download?
Thanks
EDIT: in linux it only requires setting up a udev rules file
developer.android.com/guide/developing/device.html
Also went with the zergrush, and after that kTool to flash CF-root CWM kernel.

Rooting(S2 Root method)

Hey guys, i have some questions ..
I' have "rooted' my Samsung Galaxy S2 Android( 4.0.3)
baseband: I9100XXLPW
and Kernel is XWLPD
with this method:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125414
I just followed all the steps did flash the insecure stock then runned s2 root and clicked Root Device.
It said that i have rooted succesfully. then it went rebooted. I checked if it was rooted by the root check app
but it says i don't have root?
Realy weird..
What should i do? i tried re-rooting
I think that S2 Root has some bugs.
I did have superuser too , it just didn't ask the permissions there's te problem i guess
1) Your link is busted.
2) Frankly, anyone with an I9100/T who doesn't use CFRoot to root their phone is making their life unnecessarily difficult/complicated. You might well be right about bugs in the method you tried. I personally don't know as I've never used it. I very much recommend you head over to the CFRoot thread, read the first page carefully (particularly the section with the heading in bold read that says 'Help ! Which file do I use ?'), if you can read/follow instructions you should be able to root your phone successfully/easily
Actually Codeworkx's CWM or siyah kernel will also do, just flash em with odin.
allright updated link,
I don't want use these methods because the method i do
has just a one click Root or Unroot option to make it as easy for me because i'm not good in these things. + i don't want cwm
I guess it's just a bug because everybody is replying the same. The developer should fix and update it.

Hi! I faced exactly the same issue while rooting my phone using S2root. This procedure was working for me when I was on Android 2.3.6 but was not working on Android 4.0.3.
I used the Chainfire method and then used Triangle away. I am now happy rooted.
The following link might be of help to you...

im using android jb leak 4.1.2 which method should i use for rooting my s2?

Tried to root but stuck on boot screen with yellow warning sign.

Hi, I tried rooting my samsung galaxy s2 (international i9100) using the method where you flash a new kernel containing extra root privileges however it is now stuck on the boot screen with the yellow warning triangle and will not load. I can enter download mode but not recovery mode. My original kernel contained XWLPT. Any help will be greatly appreciated as this is a reflectively new phone (got it in January)

Go into download mode, connect to the pc. Open odin on pc and put a odin flashable kernel in the pda section.
Use a siyah or dorimanx kernel which works for your rom.

I'm sorry for sounding like a noob but would it be possible for you to give me links to these as I am scared I will mess up again. And how will I know which one ,matches my ROM?
There's a thread in General section (near the top; it's stickied) with all the guides/tutorials you'll ever need.
With regard to finding the right version of Siyah or Dorimanx to match your rom, search the threads relating to these two kernels; you'll normally find this info on the first page. If in doubt, ask in the discussion thread related to whichever kernel you want to use (not in the dev thread).
hope it helps

I think the OP already tried CF Root...

CF root was hot back in the GB days, ICS has got zip flashing, ExynosAbuse and the all mighty siyah v5.
JB is all about custom kernel flashing.
Overall, Mobil Odin Pro is the best - and safest - way to root by enabling everroot feature.
