Is there a solution for dual booting two roms for the S3? I know that it can be done on the Galaxy S2 with an app and most HTC and motorola phones support it (via a different app, google dual boot in the play store) and the Galaxy nexus. Is it possible for the S3 or has samsung made it impossible with sd card partitioning (like on the galaxy S)?
Gokhanmoral is working on that in his SiyahKernel.

This. And I am sure Boot Manager will be updated for S3 support.

Lets hope it's a plan not a dream. I love cyanogenmod and AOKP but sometimes they get buggy or crash when i need something most, like a camera app or navigation FCs and misc bugs. It would be great to have a stable stock rom on one partition and a main custom rom like CM or AOKP. That would be great.

I had the same desire (a test ROM on emmc and stable ROM on sdcard) so I created a dual boot method and flashable zips for the Motorola Atrix 4g...

Unfortunately I don't have an S III. However I'm about due for an AT&T upgrade. At that point I may be able to offer more assistance.

Yes it is possible.

In theory, it is very possible since the phone does not have a locked bootloader. It's just a matter of waiting for a developer to release something that allows so.
I'm sure Gokhanmoral will get it to work as he did it also for the S2 which worked very nicely.

No AOSP firmwares do at this point - codeworkx and espenfjo are focusing on working the remaining bugs out of the camera first. A side effect of the camera work is signs of life from the MHL port - but usually just a frozen picture.

Hi guys,
Any news about the MHL?
I'm currently on 20120413 and everything works good, I Love CM9!
but MHL would be nice to have... the only thing that works when I'm using the MHL is the video... so I can watch Youtube on the big screen VIA my I9100, but games and Android OS are frozen on the TV..
There is some expectation of when it will be ready?
Thanks!

They're still fixing main issues such as external SD issues and the like. MHL doesn't seem very important to them at the moment, maybe in the future after the rest of the issues are fixed. I'd love to have MHL again but it's not too big of a deal.
Is there a decent non-stock/touchwiz that does support mhl? Does the AOKP ported rom work?

OK 10x!
yes I understand that MHL doesn't seem very important... Its just one of these things that are "nice to have" ... like the FM radio which is not important for me but I'm sure that there are others that waiting for this one too...
OK as always, we will wait and update the ROM from time to time... there is no chance that I'll get back to STOCK, this TW UI is ugly! pure ICS only

I would definitely recommend Galaxy Task 14 "slim". There is also a "fat" version that has some bloatware. It is the most complete and stable rom for the tab 10.1 as of now. Until sammy releases the ICS camera drivers of course..
just grab the slim version from here..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340064
EDIT: I did not notice "ics" in the subject, there is no slim ics version. Task is the best custom.
ICS is already slim anyways. It doesn't have anything.
I think he means pure ics with no bloat. AOKP and CM9 put gaudy stuff in there ROMS. But with no camera on ICS yet I just can't use it.

Well there is no ICS ROM with camera. Period.
I just switched to the task 15 ROM and it seems to be the most stable. I need my camera for video chat.

Do you guys think that the SGS4 Google Edition ROM could work on our SGS3? Or at least include some new sources and stuff that could improve AOSP ROMS on our device like CM10.1?

I hope so, I'm dying to get stock android on my S3 with proper 'official support' and without all those S-Crap "features". *Cross Fingers"
On the other hand, I really doubt it; with the stock version of the S4 selling about $650+ ... (That, before some XDA-Magic applied to that ROM )
Highly unlikely. The Google edition S4 is qualcomm and our S3's are exynos..

-Great specs
-Cheap
-I can completely wipe it out and throw something awesome as CM (Or any custom flavour, for that matter)

Not a chance it will work.. they're different phone with different hardware.
The stock ROM of the s3 allows HDMI output to a TV etc. But the CyanogenMod doesn't seem to want to work work with the genuine HDMI adapter for this phone. How can I make it work? I use it a lot cheers

It only works on stock based roms, but those are only kangs. Cm is based on aosp and compiled from source. No chance we will get hdmi output anytime soon on aosp roms

Samsung just put out a 4.3 update. That should make it possible to get this into other AOSP ROMs, or at least possible to more highly customize ROMs based on the stock 4.3. They suspended the update because of lag and battery issues, they're probably going to have to do some wiping or scrap the update, but we already have it.
I don't understand... So there is chance to hdmi work on CM also in the future?

Not unless samsung releases the drivers, which won't happen anytime soon (if ever).

you mean other than CM? can you point me in the right direction? I'm using CM as I assumed it was the best other than TW. After 2 using it for the past 2 weeks I can definitely see why.. although I'm also seeing more reasons to revert to TW..

You can consider buying a chromecast device. I believe it is full supported. And it has the flexibilities of the same gadget can communicate with all of your devices and be a wireless one.
I bought a cheap HDMI-MHL cable and it worked on CM exactly the same as it did on Touchwiz, surprisingly. For the record I'm using this ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2763735
so i just got my One and i just don't like sense. I've been using CM since CM 7 days. after I got my One, i immediately unlocked it, installed TWRP, and flashed the latest CM 10.1 nightly. i even tried several different nightlies and the problem persists. basically, the screen doesn't turn on after hitting power button to unlock the screen. the buttons light up, but the screen doesn't turn on and sometimes it does turn on but to a blank black screen. i never had this issue with CM before and it's really bugging me. right now i'm using a custom ROM with HTC Sense crap and it runs fine but i'm really missing the vanilla android experience. I did do a lot of research on this and on the CM thread, people seem to be having battery life issues or wake lock issues; not this. Does anybody know why it's doing this and a way to fix it? Thanks!
Maybe try a Google edition rom and see if that works? Not sure

just installed a Google Edition rom and it works fine :good: (with known bugs). i hope CM 10.1 merges GE code real soon to make things more stable and bug free cuz i really miss customizing the quick setting tiles, system theme and battery percentage feature from CM lol

Yeah this GE rom is developed from a different base from AOSP, they only appear identical on the surface.
What im hoping is that existing developers takes the GE rom code as a base to create new custom roms that integrate CM and AOKP options including themes and settings tweaks.
And sorry to say but I've never had that power button issue w any of the multiple nightlies of CM10.1 I've flashed on my phone.

I honestly think the CM and AOKP teams should halt all progress on their current nightly builds and start working again w the new code. Who knows, maybe they are planning on that.
And yes, your phone may be defective, never heard that particular problem from other CM users on the developers thread.
