Cricket has surprisingly good 3g speed, especially in comparison to Sprint's 56k dial-up modem speeds. Considering I get full Sprint coverage, the smiley is for the fact I can FORCE ROAMING to get the speeds I deserve to be getting with Sprint.

I know on Sprint you have about a 200mb data limit roaming which would make me not want to force it. Is that the same for cricket? I'd hate to be thinking about that all the time.
How do you know you are on cricket roaming and not verizon or another cdma carrier? Also what is the app you are using in your screen shots that shows the connection speeds, etc?
Wow your cricket speeds area really bad. Here is mine with the latest cricket prl and 2 bars and not roaming

Hello. I've seen it mentioned, and wouldn't have believed it if I didn't experience it. FYI, this isn't a *****ing thread, I am just curios WHY 3G speeds on the 3VO are so much slower than what I had from the OG Evo. Is this something that will, or even CAN be addressed by a radio update?
Thanks for the input!
From my personal experience, in the same location I have gone from speeds of 300kbps to a meg a second, down to >100kbps with a top of 300kbps. I tried the "Increase 3G speed trick," and still in the same speed range.
UPDATE: I had Sprint reprovision my device, and was told to do a battery pull, turn on and let the system settle, and voila. Still pulling 300kpbs tho.
If anything, this can be fixed through a radio update. Just give it time. I know it is unfortunate. Have you bothered with the MSL tweak that is in the development section?

Yes, didn't see any difference unfortunately. I just hope it is software limitations and not hardware... I cant imagine the Evo and 3Vo have that much of a different set up?

My 3G speeds are a little bit faster, but they still suck. Where I live, my speeds are abysmal. This applies with any Sprint phone. I remember when my speeds rocked, but that was at the beginning of the release of the Evo 4G. It just degraded throughout time.

I thought it was just my 3D at first, but now I see that every sprint phone my family has have been extremely slow. My sister called me yesterday asking how to turn on the 3g on her Samsung, but sadly it was already on. Sprint can't keep up with all the new subscribers.
3G on Sprint compared to Verizon sucks. I called sprint and told them about it. I suggest that others do the same. I'd didn't ***** at them I just told them I have a Xoom and a EVO3D and the Xoom 3G absolutely blows away Sprint. I told them its embarrassment. Unlimited data? Ya at 56k they can give you all the unlimited data they want.
Mine have increased from OG EVO to this without the msl trick. Weird.
Edit: update on speeds. Tested three times, all above 1.40 mbps. Never got that on og evo.

Funny thing, I just saw sprint's new commercial about unlimited data. They rank on verizon and att for their tiered data, then they rank on tmobile for thier throttling data after 5gb, and they finally they say how fast their data is! I laughed my ass off. I bet tmobile's throttled data is faster that my 3G data with full bars. I'm not in a 4G area so I can't comment on that, I'm sure it's fast but sprint's 3G data in my area is super slow during peak hours. I average 100kbs peak, about 700kbs to 1mb super early in the morning or super late in the evening. Basically without a wifi connection its unusable during peak hours.
no difference between the evo and 3d for me same old 56k **** speeds.

Thats what I told the lady from sprint was that if you don't have a WiFi connection then data was pretty much useless. What got me was I have all my music on the Google cloud. So I sync my Xooms bluetooth with my car. On the way to work it played perfect never skipped and I could change tracks without issue. So I thought well let me try it with my EVO. Well what a disaster it wouldn't play a single track let alone change tracks. Completely worthless without WiFi.
Odd that some see no difference, and some better and some worse... I put the OG Evo back on to make sure, and I'm getting approximately 3 times the network speed.
Does anyone know why this could be? I see fewer bars... But I didn't think to play with open signal maps. Might have to tinker with that when I get off.

For the ones that have good data on OG EVO, but not on the 3D, a reprovision of the phone should help you out. If you have bad speeds on both devices then reprovisioning won't do anything as you're probably in a bad reception area.
Just left tmobile for sprint and I can definitely say my throttled data was faster than sprints 3G.
It's beyond annoying. I live in Orlando, and somehow I find myself constantly roaming in high tourism areas. Actually, I'm roaming the minute I go into my bedroom.

Mine just picked up speed today! The sprint store tech did a speedtest and it was in the 100kb range. He reprovisioned the phone to reactivate on the network nd my speeds are now as good or better than original evo 500kb average. I dont think a radio update would do much good. Sprint needs to hop on the Rev B evdo or start rolling out those dual 3g/4g towers sooner than expected! They are dropping all these hot phones w/out expanding the network. Starting to sound like att.

Not always true. If you live in a former Alltel area, you can roam on Verizon 3G. I get about 700 kbps-1.2 mbps when roaming on Verizon where I live.
This is because Verizon is required to uphold the Sprint/Alltel roaming agreement terms until the agreement ends, and part of the agreement is EVDO roaming in Alltel coverage areas.
I also think that when roaming on US Cellular its EVDO but I'm not sure and I don't know from experience as Verizon (formerly Alltel) is Sprint primary roaming partner where I live.

I use roam control and it barely makes a difference. It roams on US Cellular, I barely have any signal and the data is s-l-o-w.
Roam control does not do the same thing as what he is doing .... When using Verizon prl the network sees your phone as a alltell phone and allows you full access to their network ... Full speed roaming

So if I get the new and shiny Evo 4G LTE in Chicago, does that mean that it will run on a pathetic 3G network by Sprint?
When is LTE coming to Chicago? Is there going to be a premium data fee for less than premium data speed?
Do you think AT&T's One X is a much better option? High speed 3G+ and a growing LTE network on AT&T seems very tempting.
Am I missing something with Sprint's Evo 4G LTE?
You're in one of the phase 1 cities so Sprint LTE will be a short wait for you.
Plus you get the SD card slot, Shutter button, Kickstand, HD Voice & unlimited data. You won't get that on the AT&T One X.
The One X on AT&T looks better, has global support & the 3G is faster.
It depends on what you prefer.

Some tests I ran between my 3D and LTE
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26511061&postcount=2
I'd really like to see a comparison of WiMax speeds versus the 3G speeds of the LTEVO. I'm sure WiMax will still be faster, but I'm curious to see by how much.
Since I'm keeping my OG activated (for WiMax) until LTE is active in my area, it would be nice if the numbers were close enough for me to avoid having to carry around two phones for several months .

3G for me on the LTE is between 500-700kbps while the unofficial 4G (not on Sprints map but shows on Clear's and connects as Sprint). I just ran my 3D on WiMax to Speedtest it. In my house with 1 bar of 4G and I got 5490kbps down. So you will probably want to carry 2 phones for a bit
I've done three speedtests and average 280 kbps down and 350 up here in Minneapolis with 1-3 bars in my apartment building.
Edit: though I did just get this...
My OG EVO, EVO 3D, and Epic 4G Touch have all had atrocious 3G speeds. Way below other carriers. This phone appears to have great 3G speeds (relatively), and my girlfriend's Sprint iPhone 4S also gets pretty good 3G speeds. I wouldn't be surprised if Sprint purposely throttles data from certain devices and allocates more data to others. Makes sense that they would want iPhone uses to have decent data, they don't have a 4G option. Similar to the EVO LTE, no LTE in the immediate future for most.
I bring this up because it's common knowledge that Sprint's 3G is absolutely garbage, when it fact it could be Sprint purposely throttling data. I wonder what would happen if they just opened up the pipes even to everyone.
Once NetworkVision upgrades are done all this will be moot....not worth fretting over now...
Comparing WiMax to the 3G speed is a pointless task as well, imho....different animals all together; and no phone is going to be faster than the another on 3G really in areas where the problem is capacity ridden issues...In areas its not, then you can see benefit/differences due to different antennae tech and radios used...

Please don't dismiss this as not important, having usable 3g speeds until network vision comes out is important to many of us.We want this phone to succeed in all ways.
I haven't been able to test my speeds yet as it is taking forever (more than an hour so far) to download 6 apps over 3g. I screwed up and didn't test my OG Evo before I deactivated it, but it sure seems like the new lte Evo is a lot slower so far. I will update after it finally gets the speed test app downloaded.

Read what I wrote again...don't think u grasped what i was saying really....
Wasn't dismissing the importance of 3G speed as much as caring about the difference b/w what you got on your 3D and what you get now with the LTE...like I said no matter what phone you have the capacity troubled areas will continue to get slow speeds until NetworkVision is deployed in your area...Also its highly unlikely you will see a phone released that will get half the speed of its predecessor over 3G so there should be no worry really...b/c 90% any slow speed issues experienced here will be network related issues and not the phone...

I've used CDMA Workshop to update my PRL using all the different PRLs posted on this site, from 00001 - 56xxx. I seemed to get the best results with 11119 last billing cycle. I roamed over 31GB but no letter from Sprint. So I was going to continue to take advantage of the speeds until they warn me.
However, when I tried yesterday, I get very slow speeds with all the PRLs and my Sprint data usage page always shows Sprint 3g & Sprint 4g numbers increasing, but not Sprint 3g roaming usage. What's weird is the phone NEVER connects to LTE service so how is my 4g usage amount increasing? I know some of the PRLs listed would not show the roaming indicator although I was indeed roaming. But the Sprint usage page only shows Sprint usage increasing.
Anyways, when I flash 11119 or any other PRL from the XDA site, do I also need to set the Roam Only option in Settings -> Mobile Data -> Roaming (MeanBean ROM & I'm not opposed to switching ROMs if that's the issue)? My current Sprint PRL via Update PRL is 24012. Should I just keep the Sprint PRL and set the Roam Only option for Mobile Data? I tried it briefly and it switches my connection to 1x. Will 1x still count as 3G roaming? It's slow as heck so I can't imagine 1x data usage pushing my usage numbers up very high.
Only my 2nd post so forgive me if I posted in the wrong area, asked stupid questions, etc. Blast me and I'll get it all right the next time ... I promise!!

Technically Sprint CAN charge .25$ per megabyte over 300mb usage of off-network roaming, by the way That would be quite the bill you'd have there. Sprint is tricky and unpredictable in most cases. I'd be careful. Just my .25$. Lol.

There may be a provision that Sprint *can* charge you extra for roaming, but I've never heard of it actually happening to anyone in practice. It seems to be standard procedure that they just drop you after a certain amount of time of excessive roaming, and they give you advance notice that you're being dropped. I've actually seen a copy of the letter they send. In my personal experience, I've never been charged extra for roaming despite routinely going over their 300mb cap.
