[Q] How to change firmware one country to another? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is this possible to GS3? what are the thing needed? thanks..:fingers-crossed:

I think it was mentioned in a thread - just flash the preffered CSC with the country you want. Try search the forum.

Go to sammobile.com you will find all the roms available and tools to flash them

will i just flash it outright on top of my current rom? or i need to do something prior that? i think i need a 3 item firmware package [PDA,Phone,CSC]

I flashed the latest Malaysian software for my GS3 (i think it was from france initially) with no problems. Although initially, I did a no wipe upgrade, my phone.apk was starting to act up and couldn't maintain a constant signal when talking on the phone (US T-mobile). After factory wipe/cleared caches and a reflash fixed everything!

is it the single file firmware you flash? just the PDA file? thanks
i have experienced flashing firmwares long ago but just to upgrade my phone not to change to another country version. im just afraid to see bootloops and worse my phone being bricked.

Refer to the guide below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969
Post #10 has a list of individual CSC packages. Just place the .tar file in the [CSC] part of Odin and flash as per the guide screenshots.
Warning: usually changing CSC will hard reset the phone (factory reset + wipe internal sdcard), so backup to PC first.

i have read that already and tried to flash the stock firmware back using odin.. but no luck.

the firmware i flashed was like 7 mb.
i would not want to factory reset my phone as the problem i am facing might stop for a day or two, cause thats what happened when i did it earlier. and i am going to get the phone replaced today itself.

Firmwares are well over 200mb.To flash a new rom go to samfirmware.com choose the original firmware you had or one similar and then extract the folder downloaded. Put the phone.in download mode. For PDA use.the file with PDA in etc. Click repartition and use ext4 pit file.

OMG OMG FIRE FIRE!!!!
First, stop panicking, and post in Q&A where this belongs.
You need to do a full ODIN flash of a stock ROM. You would do this by going to Intratech's thread, and selecting the suitable firmware for your region and carrier/unbranded device.
Unzip the self extracting exe etc, and you will have the stock ROM file. ODIN it as a PDA.
This won't factory reset the phone, but if it won't boot, that might give you another example of something wrong with it... You can factory reset via stock recovery, if needed, by holding volume up + home + power, and choosing to reset.
FIRST AND FOREMOST...SUCCESS ... UNROOTED!
I WAS FLASHING THE FIRMWARE (7MB) NOT THE ROM (200MB)
AND NOW DONE!!

Is it possible to change CSC without wipe?

Hey,
I'm having data dropouts using CheckROM V2, I'm on Three UK (H3G) and I've tried a ton of different modems including returning to NELE4 which came with stock but still my H+ fails to kick in and stalls my connection.
I want to return my CSC to stock which I believe is I9300H3GALE4 in the hopes these may improve things
Can I download this package separately and flash it without wiping my phone or can I extract it from a stock rom?
You can replace the CSC folder and SW- Conf and CSC version text in the custom rom with whatever you choose or no CSC at all .
If you want to extract from stock rom suggest Wannams stock if your CSC is in it otherwise you will need to rip Cache Image .

Thanks JJEgan for taking the time to answer,
Are you saying I can take the required CSC folder and replace the one on my phone using say root explorer? Will this then update my CSC or have I missed important steps? / bricked my device?

No i meant in the custom rom before flashing or reflashing . No idea about doing it on a live rom . Wont brick it and if you have a Nandroid backup no problem to restore .

Im on three UK & have had no issues with ALF2 stock i cant see CSC causing H+ problems although i could be corrected i think its more of an OTA update & Kies issue, CSC is editable in the EFS folder, i cant remember the file, check my previous posts its in there, dont know of any possible side effects but i havent seen any yet

Please help with firmware issue/confusion!

Please can someone help me i am pulling my hair out and dont know if im been thick or o2 are!
Ok, new s3 on o2 in uk, had it about a month or so. Everything was perfect and call quality was crystal clear upuntil last week when i got a ota update and now my reception and general phone call quality is rubbish. I have just spoken to o2 and they firstly told me i was on incorrect software and should download kies and it would update my phone software. they said i should be on i9300OXAALF2.
When i connect to kies it tells me i am upto date, kies says:-
PDA:LFB / PHONE:LE7 / CSC:LF3 (O2U), THIS SAYS I AM UPTO DATE
in about device this is my information.
Android version 4.04
Baseband version I9300BWLE7
Kernel version 3.0.15-782020-user
[email protected] #1
SMP PREEMPT Tue jun 26 00:30:10 KST
2012
Build Number IMM76D.I9300XXBLFB
I have never flashed a phone and dont know what i am doing, i have registered on sammobile and really dont understand what i am looking at, i presumed o2 would send me ota the correct version of software but the first person told me i should be on i9300OXAALF2 and the next person from o2 said she didnt know where this version had come from!
Please forgive my ignorance/stupidity but this isnt my speciality, all i want is decent phone/reception quality and since the last update i have lost this.
Am i on o2 software, is it the most up to date software, am i on the correct radio etc and if you was me, what would you do!?!?
Thanks is advance!

Can`t see if it is for O2 however but it fits the desccription from the O2 employee.
To be flashed with Odin, instructions by Chainfire see here:
(CF Root to be replaced by the rom`s name off course)
- Follow these instructions to the letter. Do not touch any buttons or checkboxes that are not listed below to touch!
- Unzip the attached Odin3-vX.X.zip file
- Download and unzip the CF-Root-SGS3-vX.X.zip file (see posts below this one)
- If you end up with a recovery.img and cache.img file, you've extracted twice. You need to end up with a .tar file - don't extract that one
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start Odin3-vX.X.exe
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Root-SGS3-vX.X.tar
- Put your phone in download mode (turn off phone, then hold volume-down + home + power to boot - if it asks you to press a button to continue, press the listed button, or run adb reboot download command)
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure Repartition is NOT checked
- Click the Start button
- Wait for Android to boot
- Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)
- NOTE: Sometimes the device does *not* boot into recovery mode and root your device. Just do the entire procedure again if this happens. If it still will not install root and such, make sure that in Odin "Auto Reboot" is not checked. Then after flashing, pull the battery, and boot with VolUp+Home+Power button to boot into recovery manually. This will start the install process.
I would ask O2 to update the firmware if they say its wrong.
Or you have to start flshing stuff yourself.
Could ask on the O2 forum as well .

For me i say Odin is safer. As long as you follow the instructions letter by letter you will be fine. If you flash unbranded stock rom you will recieve ota at the same time as everyone else.. and not wait for your carrier (o2) to update. Which i believe can be far later than others

Ok thanks. Are the o2 firmwares not specific radio codes for o2 and modified to their network for better performance? Am i best flashing to unbranded uk samsung firmware or specific o2 uk firmware for radio quality? My phone is sim unlocked. If i flash to stock samsung software etc is that unrooted or is that something different?
Thanks for your help.

NO
Am i best flashing to unbranded uk samsung firmware or specific o2 uk firmware for radio quality?
Either as their is no change in O2 firmware bar branding .
My phone is sim unlocked.
If i flash to stock samsung software etc is that unrooted or is that something different?
Stock is Samsung firmware Branded / Provider is as supplied by a network .
Stock is not root recommend you start by reading the basics .
Rooting is the process of getting 'root access'. In a nutshell this means that you can edit the system partition of your phone.
The 'roots' of the tree are the android system files themselves, they are unseen and are not usually meant to be messed with. It can also be seen as the equivelant of having administrator privilages in windows - with them you have better access to your computer.
Rooting voids your warranty! But you can un-root your phone
Rooting means you can
Edit files to create themes
Backup usefull system files
Remove bloatware and unwanted apps

I was wondering if i installed a different ROM that might fix it but for this i need someone to redirect me to a rom that will work with the version of my phone because i am kind new into this.
Thanks

Get a root file explorer from market and see if there was an automated back up made whilst previous owner was flashing roms/kernels. You may be lucky, otherwise it's a paid repair at a service centre

I don't think it will as the efs folder is unique to the handset not the ROM installed. There are few threads offering fixes with mixed results. Search and try them. All the best.

I saw your other thread asking for a copy of this. This is ancient as far as firmwares go, you've got pretty much zero chance of getting your hands on it unless someone who has a copy happens to read your threads on here (seriously unlikely).
Is there a specific reason why you need such an out of date firmware; surely you can just use the latest stock firmware for your carrier/country ?

Sorry but you must be mistaken me for someone else because this is my only thread about this phone that i have.
Also i have tried downloading the stock firmware for orange uk which is Firmware info: PDA:BVKG3 and i have searched on google and lot more websites and all the download links i get they are all dead so that is why i open a thread to try and get help on the community here.
Really ? What's this then ?
I understand what you're saying, but what I'm saying is your chances of getting hold of this particular firmware are close to zero.
Given the almost impossibility of getting it, why wouldn't you just use the latest available stock firmware for your carrier/country if you need to go back to stock ?
because i cant find the firmware were the download link.ent dead.

Get the PC version of Checkfus (search for it on here/Google). You to choose your phone model, carrier & country in pulldown boxes, and it will enable you to download the latest stock firmware which you can flash in Odin.

Your problem will not be fixed flashing roms. You need to search this forum for solutions. Even then it's not certain it will repair your phone, often only solution is a repair centre. Try this one to start with. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1264021

Is it dead? Odin Screenshot.

So my phone started acting up, slowing down, glitching, freezing etc.
I took a titanium backup, formatted the phone and reinstalled my rom (via CWM).
It kept crashing, so I went back into CWM, and tried to wipe it again, but it kept erroring on accessing the cache partition.
I downloaded Odin and tried to reflash it back to stock - it failed.
Assumed it was a partition problem, so I grabbed the PIT file and tried to flash that.
This is the error:
Long and short - is it new phone time, or can this be saved?

Looks like either user damaged the Nand by flashing wrong files or its the Sudden Death Syndrome .
In both cases its a service centre job .
reinstalled my rom (via CWM). >> that's only restoring the fault if it was a firmware problem.

I've had similar issues before, it worked eventually.
Try Odin3 v.1.85 from here (CF-Auto-Root thread).
Next, be sure you got a valid file, those from sammobile (I see from screenshots you want polish ROM).
Next, use only PDA button, nothing else, make sure it's the same settings as in root thread above.
Also make sure all Kies processes are closed.
Now, try until it works. It might take a few tries. This is what worked for me, hope it does for you too.
AW: Is it dead? Odin Screenshot.
If you are in Europe service center will repair it without adding money.
