By flashing this you agree that you will not hold me responsible for anything bad that happens whether caused directly or indirectly as a result of flashing this.
I don't yet have the device, so you are the testers, if you flash, please post your experience and issues while using this kernel.
Donations are greatly appreciated, but certainly not required. If you would like to thank me for my work and help contribute to the cost of the device then there is a "donate to me" button at the side of this post.
As always, thanks are also appreciated greatly.
See second post for changelog and download.
Installation
First of all, download the kernel.elf file below, which you will flash to your device.
Test version: here
Plug your device into the computer in fastboot mode.
Now, open a command prompt/terminal and execute the following command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot kernel.elf
Then:
Code:
fastboot reboot
If you flash it, please post your experience/issues on this thread
Thx keiran, i'll try your kernel as soon as i get home tonight
the phone boots and works well for now on KA02 Xperia SSpeed ROM
il try it 2morrow...dont have much time rite now ......
but i still want to see what the proccessor is capable of....maybe bump it to 1.5ghz just to see how it goes ....
Just flashed, very good

I couldn't do that for a few reasons:
- the overclock threshold of the novathor u8500 (our "chip") isn't known
- 1.5GHz would most certainly cause your device to not even boot
- I don't yet have the device to test overclock and I don't want to damage anyone elses device by putting something in my kernel that isn't tested.
Hope you understand,
Keiran

no i mean when we have sufficient info and experience to oc that much...and just to try...definitly not for daily use probably would need to overvolt too,,, also, our phone uses the mali400 gpu...sgs2 users have managed to overclock it...im guess we could do the same? probably would be easier to impliment... ours probably is only a single or dual core gpu, compared to the sgs2 quad core gpu. but looking at the some document and write ups on mali400, it still should be very similar... possible? tks fr your hardwork!
I would like to test it but i can´t find the kernel. Some help?
I haven't had a look at the Mali400 GPU driver yet, but it runs at 200MHz single core iirc, but I will have a look at it in more depth when I have the device at least then I would be able to debug.

No, at the moment that is not possible unfortunately.
To flash a custom kernel, you need an unlocked bootloader

That's expected, I still have a lot of work to do on this kernel
Related
Been playing around with Kernel development and created an overclocked kernel for the 4.0.2.A.0 stock Rom.
There's nothing too speciall in it at the moment, but lets you overclock the Ray to 1.9Ghz using the source released by SE and the modified CPU steps that IF2 posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1165355
There's no custom bootloader/Clockwork mod and no additional governers (at the moment) although I may add these in future as I learn more.
It seems to work well enough, and everything seems to be working as standard. I experience random lock-ups at 1.9 and occasionally 1.8Ghz, especially when it goes into/out of sleep when the screen turns off. Lower frequencies seem stable though.
This is released as-is, I'm using it myself but I can't be held responsible for any instabilities or failures you might experience. Just thought it might be of use to some people.
The new .img file can be downloaded from here: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/17615284/4.0.2.A.0-Overclock.img
To install just use fastboot in the usual way. To return to stock, extract kernel.sin from the official update image using WinZip/WinRar etc and flash using fastboot again.
Thanks a lot hartej !
Just flashed it, seems to work as described. I OC to 1.4 Ghz
Will report back if there is any issue.
Looking forward for additional CPU governors, insecure kernel, autoroot and clockwork recovery
Thanks again for your hard work

Not really had any time unfortunately due to work, but if you've updated the defconfig for the Ray I might have a bash at your sources in the morning (still don't understand them!)
Thanks again though - if it wasn't for your help and the fact you stopped developing for the Ray I'd never had started playing about with kernels myself!

It could be a good idea to move this thread in the newly created subforum dedicated to the Ray: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1351
Can you also make a kernel for cm7 with some other governors like Doomkernel's one but for fxp043. Thanks in advance

This is all pretty new to me, so don't expect too much too fast!
In future I may look at CM7 images but currently I'm on the stock firmware (at least until the flash in CM7 is fixed) and as I have to use the phone daily I'm not prepared to switch between firmwares to be developing for different sources at this time.
I've been using CM7 on my other devices (HTC Desire and ZTE Blade) so will most likely switch to it when some of the bugs have been worked out. When this happens I'll look at the CM7 Kernel.

Cool, but please sort out the front page articles, grammar is quite bad
E.g on the article HTC: ICS Update Announced
Every Android user bothered about his version of android should know what ICS is, if not, it is Google’s newest version of the Android OS (4.0) and has many improvements over Gingerbread, not mentioning a total UI redesign!
That should be "Not to mention"

It should still boot (I have the default CPU speed set at 1024MHz (1GHz) on the kernel) just don't overclock further than 1.6GHz.
I don't know how DooMLord made his 1.6GHz one because he has no source code for it.

Still, try it just to see if it boots
Hi Keiran,
I did some searching on the forum and i think its because my Play cant handle 2ghz so it just hangs on boot screen. I tried your kernel and it did the same as the other 2ghz kernels. It must do some checks on the boot to see if the device can support it the different clocks.
Any chance you could make a kernel which can only clock up to 1.6ghz please.
Thanks
Maybe I'm doing something wrong but I was on DoomKernel. I flashed your Dark Forest Kernel to give it a whirl and everything works fine however now m Wifi does not work. It just says "error" next to it under settings. I flashed the stock kernel, then rebooted, then went back and reflashed the DarkForest Kernel and same thing. I do have a flashable zip for wifi modules I tried that and still the same, no wifi. Any ideas?

it depends. sometime your phone will start warm bcos your engine running beyond its normal speed. all machine have their own capabilities.
for me, normally will set speed between 1.2ghz to 1.4ghz. but i prefer 1.2ghz, dont wana force it to much
btw, its not my kernel. i added some script into ramdisk and compiled with other(s) kernel. thats all

Not yet. But i can make overclocked kernel later. But i think 1ghz dual-core is enough for ics.
I think that greater number governors and schedulers are more important than overclocking, you're 100% right with speed for ICS and even JB.

I know ramdisk, but let me rephrase my question, what exactly (in ramdisk) needs to be modified and how, to make it work on jb. Anyways, i'm still figuring things out by trial n error so progress is very very slow. The logcat was the only thing i ever got to which showed the cm10 logo as well but then, everything MESSED up. Havent been able to replicate that result since.

So happy to hear such good news for the DesireX! Finally the developing for this device is becoming richer first of all, thank you for this custom kernel and thanks nexus prime for his effort to port the CM series I'm not an expert but yeah, sense and AOSP/AOKP Roms need different kernels. To learn more I think that Dennis Rassmann (the creator of the famous Bricked kernel series) or faux can answer your question about ramdisk, if you contact them (they are really kind and gentle). After that I would like to ask if it's possible to add the useful sweep2wake function to this kernel, in future. For now, good work guys, never give up!!!
Thanks to XperiaSTE team for the overclock kernel source first. I just did the config and compile but nothing else.
This kernel will overclock your device to 1.15GHz. The overclocking will provide a better performance and a smoother user experience.
I'm using a kexec multiboot kernel on my device, so I didn't test the kernel packed as elf format. It should be good because I have done flashing the self-built kernels several times.
The overclock source doesn't seems to be the latest but everything works~ Maybe that's because the modules in initramfs? (I did nothing to initramfs)
It's nearly impossible for me to upload the kernel on something like devhost/mediafire, so sorry for that. Could someone upload it on these sites please?
V2 Changelog:
1) Use GCC 4.9 Linaro to compile.
2) Change the SLQB allocator to SLUB. I don't really think SLQB is stable.
3) use 2G/2G user/kernel split. It seems to have a better performance.
4) PID namespace
5) NOTE:NO recovery in V2! Instead of recovery, the kexec multiboot menu by @percy_g2 is added. Big thanks to percy_g2. For how to use it, see Link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/xperia-u/p-development/kexec-multi-boot-menu-t2647623

Thanks for your support!
by doing diff -u to the two xperiap_defconfig, the configs seem to be same.
So XperiaSTE did nothing more to the overclocked kernel.
therefore the config isn't changed and the only change is in the code.
Doing diff to the whole source tree will take much time so i didn't do it
By the github commit the changes seem to be all related to overclocking.

you can read cm-11.0 and overclock branches's commits

CM11Overclock_Fandroid-MIUI https://yadi.sk/d/kn4Gv5wXaP7Qj
Is this kernel stable? And can I use this in Europe?
Thanks for the kernel!
Just a suggestion for anyone thinking about flashing it right away:
Wait a couple of days/weeks for someone to do some testing, you could fry your motherboard (happened to me on my previous 2 phones).
I'm not saying this kernel will do that, but it's just a precaution.

It's a small time period, understand me please
I was running OC kernels on my previous phones and the motherboard frying happend months after use,
I'm not saying that this is the situation with this specific kernel, these are just my previous experiences,
and it was just to warn people
I had ever used panthom kernel on stock jb, it used 1.15ghz too but still safe used for a long time..
thanks for the great work.but how to install multi rom on our phones?
If anyone has a problem downloading the kernel from baidu, I have made a mirror on dropbox:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/gxuw8o8jtllzmfi/CM11Overclock_Fandroid.elf?dl=0
Ofcourse with the permission from the developer
Can someone please explain steps for installing multiroms? Can I use cm11 along with cm10?
Would the existing cm10 need to be reinstalled?
I've given link in the thread
No reinstalling is needed
