Background Data (ICS) - Motorola Droid RAZR

How do we control background data with ICS?

I don't think that there is a straight forward on/off toggle. I don't know if restricting Background Data is the same as turning it off, but to restrict it. Go into settings and under Data Usage hit the menu button and select restrict background data. it'll tell to that you need to set a Mobile Data limit, so set one and try again.

Seems like they really want us to.use data...

What is this mean thought. If I set a limit then I could be without a service when the limit is reached. Is this mean that the background data will stop once the limit is reached or once the limit is set no matter how big or small the back ground data will be stopped if engaged?
On my gingerbread EL29 I could turn it off and I knew because very time I went to the store it asked me to turn it on.
any suggestions on how to turn this off without a limit since I have unlimited everything
Thanks

It's apparently in your smart settings or whatever area where you can set data limits for the device. Press the menu button while in there and you should be able to get extra options.

Ok I have data usage & data roaming and restrict backround data.
You want to make sure background data isn't restricted generally, and only turn it off on apps that are eating up your data if you're not on Unlimited.

Data Usage - Save info / push data not working now / GPS not Working

Is there a way to save the info/history from the "Data Usage" in the settings? Anyway to restore it? Going to wipe my phone, and wold like to preserve the info
Try titanium backup. Search for "Data usage (policy and stats). " I personally use My Data Manager so I'm not 100% on this, but it seems like that's what it would back up
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using XDA Free mobile app
I use a full wipe Odin on my phone to get it back to as new.
But after a day or 2, I started to realize that I'm not getting push data.
My WhatsApp isn't coming in except if I kill the app and open it and going into a chat, hangouts didn't come in for a few hours till I restarted my phone, and gmail isn't coming in till I refresh all mailboxes separately & my Chase nofications aren't coming in as well.
As I have restored my data info, I have seen that Chase was blocked from background data, which wasn't the case before the backup. I have enable background data, but still not working.
For the others, I disabled and then reanabled background data, but I'm still having problems.
Any insight?
I'm having 2 major issues with my phone.
1) The data alert, (on the data usage page), shows up an alert 1/2 gig before I reach that amount. Bug involved?
2) My GPS lately is creating lots of problems. GPS Toggle is on, but Waze/Maps doesn't collect the data from it, and Waze shows an error that the GPS is not working, and Maps shows my position based on GPS-A. Only when I re-toggle the GPS (off/on), does it show up in the notification bar "searching for location/location found" and then Waze/Maps shows the correct position.
Any insights?

"Auto" data off apps

Hi guys,
Wanted to know if there any apps or workarounds which switch off data automatically. I know there are apps which turn off data when the screen is locked and such, but what I need is something more specific. I read quite a few "articles" and news snippets which are fairly long, which might take around 2-3mins to completely read. Is there an app or a floating widget which can disable the data during this period and enable it back when required? I am fine with some sort of "floating" button which hovers over and I can manually disable the data.
Thanks!
BB

Automatic Android Sync (and how to disable it?)

My non-tweaked, non-rooted Redmi 5 has the annoying habit of connecting (via Mobile Data) to the net to sync/check for updates every single morning. It seems to override everything I do (I've disabled mobile data, I've cleared the list of Apps and System Apps that can use Mobile Data), I've set a limit of 0KB. Nothing works. The only thing I haven't tried is disabling Background Data for Android System, and that's because it's enabled by default and grayed out, meaning I can't modify it.
Is there a way to restrict all mobile data use for the Redmi 5, the way I was able to do with all my other android-powered phones? And is this problem a "feature" affecting all Redmi 5 phones, or a bug affecting only mine?
There is no way to sync apps and accounts if the option for sync is disabled. It's quite hard to understand by your explanation - does your mobile data and sync options gets automatically turned on after you've turned them off? And what you mean by "Android Sync" and "sync/check for updates"? If you mean that the device is checking for ROM updates, you can turn off that in Settings > About phone > System Update. Just know that without Wi-Fi/mobile data and sync option there is no way for syncing anything on your phone.

I have not turned Sync off altogether. I have, however, activated "Wi-Fi Only" under Settings>Accounts>Sync.
To recap, Wi-Fi only Sync is activated, Mobile data is off, Under "Restrict Data Usage" I have Deactivated Mobile for every single Installed or System App, I've set a Mobile Data limit of 1MB with automatic deactivation of Mobile data when 60% of the limit is reached. And yet, every morning Android System (whose settings are Mobile: Off, WiFi: On, , Background Data: On with no option to deactivate) overrides all these settings, turns on Mobile Data and performs some basic sync operation (roughly 100KB in volume). While the charges are negligible (around 1 cent a day), a. they will be higher if I'm abroad and b. I find it very annoying that there seems to be nothing I can do to prevent this unauthorized data exchange (I'm new in MIUI, but I never, ever had a similar issue with any of many Android-based phones I've used in the past).

Uhm, Android System or MIUI ROM itself can't override your settings. Chances are that you probably have some malicious app installed and it has permission to manage your system/background connectivity settings. You can check this by going to Settings > Permissions > Other permissons > Modify system settings.
Nope, no malicious app there (only Skype and the preinstalled Music and Mi Remote apps have permission to change system settings). Besides, the only app that has actually consumed Mobile Data all this time iss, according to the Usage stats, Android System.

When wifi discounnects or turn off, the mobile data turns off automatically too!

So whenever I left wifi area or turn off the wifi soon after the mobile data gets automatically turned off, the icon of it shows not just for specific app.
Even when I turn off the data saver, it doesnt help.
This is very bothersome as I will miss alot of stuff.

Anyone experiencing or heard such problem with Huawei Phone? Need help.
Are you talking about missing notifications?
If you enable Developer Options (settings/system/about phone...then press build number 5 times) then in Developer Options there is an option you can tick to always keep mobile data active. I use it for faster network switching and it doesn't have much of an impact on data use or battery drain.
But if you are talking about missing notifications that might not solve your problem.
You want to remove any apps that need timely notifications from battery optomization in the power settings. Make sure after you choose to manually manage the apps that they are allowed to run at startup and remain running in the background. (All 3 options should be allowed).
If that doesn't solve your problem then you might also need to remove Google Play Services from automatic power management since that service is normally responsible for syncing Android phones.
Huawei has more aggressive power management than most Android phones which provides great battery life but also annoys many people because they can miss important notifications.

No, the entire data just cut off after leaving wifi even thou the mobile data was on prior to leaving the wifi spots or just turning off the wifi. Does that make sense? I have had so many different phone this has never happend to me. I even turn off the data saver mode too.

If I turn that option on in dev mode "always leave the mobile data on" even when the wifi is on (even when wlan is active) does that mean it may sometimes suck up my mobile data while wifi is on, i dont want that.

Ok after tons of digging found the problem. a function i have never seen on previous phones.
basically you go to mobile data setting and go to more and then (wlan/mobile switcher) go in there and thats where the problem is.
I now select switch to mobile data.

I don't see that setting. Does this fix the fact that when you use hotpsot the phone is incapable of any data? I can't use hotspot at the same time as data on the phone itself.
