bricked SG3 - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all,
Something went seriously wrong when installing custom mod on my SG3 => bricked
What's the status:
*unable to get in recovery modus
*able to get in download modus
*when I want to install another mod within odin it doesn't do anything, it completes installing in 1 second
it actually stops @ <ID:0/006> NAND Write Start!!
I can wait for hours and it just stops @ this step...:crying:
Anyone of you have any ideas as I'm running out of options..
Thank you for your help!

* installed CWM
* installed the cyanogen ROM
* installed font installer => rebooted => crashed (stuck on samsung screen)
* cleared data/cache in recovery modus
* tried to install stock ROM => stuck on samsung screen
* added pit file (read on the forum that it could help on bricked phones) , stock ROM and flashed with Odin
final result: no recovery modus, only download modus and unable to flash anything with Odin

If you can get to download mode you should certainly be able to flash with odin. That is download mode's sole purpose and afaik it is not affected by any rom installations.

Oh wait, you flashed a .pit file?
It was probably the wrong file. You should not have done that. Its pretty certain that is the cause.

odin is detecting ur fone when u r in diwnlaoad mode?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium

thanks for the feedback
the phone is recognized in Odin
I also think that the pit file messed it up (pit file was the one suggested for the SG3 => GT-I9300_mx_20120220.pit)
when installing PDA file via Odin it stops @ <ID:0/006> NAND Write Start!!
on the phone
status balk on phone is completed but not rebooting (it actually does nothing in Odin I guess)

Why don`t you read BEFORE you flash anything instead of AFTERWARDS
BUT I GUESS ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE IF YOU ARE NOT LIMITED BY ANY KNOWLEDGE.
You did it to yourself.

Boot into odin and flash a complete stock rom with NO pit file. Follow the instructions provided on these forums for returning to stock.
Never ever flash a pit again.

The point is that you should not flash anything if you don`t know the procedure and what to do exactly.
I hate what has happened to you but you could have prevented this mess you`re in if you were informed!

In a german board this problem got solved by flashing with the right pit file (and a 3-part firmware).
They said, "mx.pit" or "GT-I9300_mx_20120329.pit" should work.
HERE you get the files.
Unfortunately the original poster was not very specified with reporting which he had flashed, but he said it flashed.
Another one pointed out, that you need a 3-part firmware when flashing with repartition. Is that the case? I don't know.
EDIT: It can be that the solution wasn't the correct pit file, but only the 3-part firmware. Maybe try to flash a 3-part firmware first without repartition.
Best Regards
Rob

great info Rob!
I used the GT-I9300_mx_20120329.pit file now and I'm again able to flash via odin + see my recovery modus as well...

tried to install cyanogen via zip on external sd and it stops after a few seconds and reboots...

This is pretty strange. You should be able to flash any of the international roms and have it work as they are interchangeable.
When you run the cyanogen zip is it throwing up an error or just flat resetting?
Tried redownloading the zip or using a different nightly?

Can't flash with ODIN - PLEASE help!

Spent a frustrating day trying to sort this so I'm posting here as a last resort as I'm at the end of my tether!!
So. Was browsing the marketplace(new style) and my phone crashed and then would not reboot. It would only go as far as the Samsung Galaxy S2 screen. so I took out the battery and half an hour later returned to see if all was well when I reinserted the battery. It wasn't. I should point out at this point that I was happily using the latest MIUI and appart from the occasional reboot all was well. When reinserting the battery did not work I tried to reboot into CWM but found that I could not. I can however reboot into download mode so have been trying to reflash my phone using that. However I can't get past factoryfs.img! It just stops there every time! Tried :
Usb Jig
Different USB ports
Restart computer
Reinstalling Kies drivers
A different version of ODIN
Many different ROM files (including Litening 1.5 which I know works from a previous flash)
Re downloading various ROMs in case the download was dodgy
Please, please help. I just don't know what to do now
Im thinking its very possible that something in your phone fried and the only option you have is service.. From the way you describe things as not advancing past factory fs.
You make no mention of flashing a stock rom via Odin .That is the normal method of recovery.

Thru odin you must use 4 files first you have to use pit- ext4 , then- pda , then- phone , and finaly csc.
You got all files here and do please read.
These are stock roms.

Unistalled Kies
Installed a newer Kies
Tried Odin 1.83 instead of 1.85
Since reinstalling Kies and reinstalling the drivers, my computer won't recognise the phone at all even in download mode. Might have to admit defeat soon
Flash this recovery package, which is XXKI3, 2.3.5, Open Europe http://hotfile.com/dl/130600047/b70801e/I9100XXKI3.rar.html
Tick the 3 top boxes (Re Partition, auto reboot and F.Reset time)
PIT -> PIT
CODE -> PDA
MODEM -> PHONE
CSC -> CSC
If that doesn't work or fails, flash this, which is a XXKI3 Kernel : http://www.multiupload.com/WDOO81L5H6. After that, re-flash the recovery package (with PIT and repartitiong, but be careful )
Report back if it doesn't work, and good luck!
If that doesn't work, flash the old bootloader : http://www.multiupload.com/LQQBRQVJUD in either the PDA or Bootloader section in ODIN. If that is successful, flash the Kernel again, and then the XXKI3 recovery package I gave you.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S2 - Bootloop stuck, no recovery mode but do have download mode!

Hello there!
I have read through all the Boot loop posts before anyone asks!
My phone is stuck on the Samsung galaxy s2 boot up with the yellow triangle and the black "!" inside (Boot loop). This happened after flashing the wrong kernel on the device first time. Here is the thing, no matter how many times I try to flash the Kernel which I think is "KH1" (99% sure) in download mode with Odin and all the right drivers installed right from Kies, it still won't work! I've tried stock kernels, insecure kernels... you name it I've tried it!
The phone it's self will go into DOWNLOAD mode (which works fine) , but not RECOVERY MODE at all!
I have been trying for days to fix it, but nothing on here will work.
Please some one get back to me and try to help me fix this problem as I want to use my galaxy s2 again. :/
Thanks, Sam.

A link to what? Neither in this thread nor your original post in the correct thread have you said what happens when you flash with Odin (what errors, what messages, what options you're picking), what ROMs you've tried (I try to flash the Kernel which I think is "KH1" (99% sure) sounds rather flakey).
The full, detailed instructions are in the very first post, here in case you missed it.
If it doesn't work when you follow the instructions to the letter, explain in full what does happen and someone might be able to help you.

Alternatively, it is possible to flash VillainROM 1.1 if you are not comfortable in wiping via recovery, or if you cannot do so for any reason (corrupted kernel etc), as it wipes all users data when installing. Simply ignore steps 2 to 4, and flash VillainROM 1.1 via ODIN instead of the stock ROM.

Assuming you really do have an I9100, stock ROMs are here [ROM+Guide]Official i9100 Firmwares KG, KH1/2/3/4, KI1/2/3/4/8, KJ1/2 Download and you should probably be looking for a WIPE ROM, such as XXKI3:

If you try to flash a multi file firmware and checking re-partition it still fails? I had this by using one file firmwares. Go to Intratech's thread and download a multi file firmware with new bootloaders to get comletely stock. This can not fail.
I have found out that the most stable multi file is xxki3.
While flashing this that way you should not encounter any failures with Odin.

hi guys, any help would really be appreciated.. i think i have the exact same problem as op. let me articulate it in a slightly more clear manner:
1. i flashed an insecure kernel in order to get root access. somewhere along this process somehow something got messed up.
2. the phone is stuck in a bootloop. this shouldnt be a problem! simply flash stock rom/stock modem, enter recovery mode and do a reset!
3. uh-oh. recovery mode crashes instantly, and the endless bootcycle comes back.
4. ive tried using cwm recovery, stock recovery, both of these have failed.
5. download mode works completely fine (using odin 1.85)
im running the AT&T version of galaxy s2 i777, but posting on those forums havent really gotten a solution, with build version UCKH7. I've tried to find a "wipe" package for this build but although i can find stock PDA and stock MODEM, i cannot find stock CSC. in desperation, i have also tried flashing PDA/MODEM/stock PIT at the same time, but this also has not worked. someone on the i777 forums has recommended trying to flash a new bootloader, but im a little wary with taking that step. noone has done it before.
any ideas?
TL;DR: my phone is stuck in a boot loop, but unlike others, recovery mode crashes instantly before i can even explore any options, and reenters bootloop into main android.

What exactly are you putting into each section in Odin, and which settings are checked? How long does the process take? Did you ever (either when you originally messed it up or while trying to fix it) choose any of the pit/repartition settings? What did you originally flash to cause the problem in the first place?
Is it possible to get screenshots with phone connected before flashing and one afterwards with all the options you're using shown?
This thread mentions something I asked earlier as the solution but you didn't respond to. Have you tried a different USB port and reinstalled the drivers (in Kies: tools -> install driver).
Kies also has a "firmware emergency recovery" though I've got no idea what that does, or if it's recommended to try.

It takes like 2 seconds on this one, other kernels which I flash take about 30 seconds then say PASS, but still boot loops. I haven't choose any of the pit/repartition settings. I just flashed the wrong kernel from trying to root the device for the first time, but this just put it into the boot loop.
I am just putting the "New_Bootloader_GT-I9100_OXA_I9100XXKI3_I9100XXKI3_I9100OXAKI3.tar" in into the PDA and then pressing start. I can't put a screen shot up here though as it won't let me.
I have tried different USB ports and reinstalled drivers. I also tried "firmware emergency recovery" but kies doesn't connect to my phone.

To OP, have you tried this? If all of your attempts thus far have involved a single file, and no repartition, if could be worth a try with one of the packages which has PDA/Phone/CSC as separate files (as on Intratech's description here: http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/8290/odinxm.jpg). Failing that, you could try a ROM which comes with a PIT file to repartition the phone in case the partition table is somehow corrupt/damaged/incorrect, but you might want to consider that a last resort.

[Q] Bricked, Soft bricked, Don't know anymore

Hi guys, i got a little issue with my galaxy i9300 international version, let me tell you what I did and the results to that.
1. Flashed with Cyanomogen 10.1. Working fine.
2. Then, afer a few days, flashed with Paranoid.
3. Phone starts to freeze, so as I didn't know was going on, and tried to flash with another ROM.
4. Flashed several times with ODIN and tried to stabilize it with stock room XELLA.
5. Flashed with Ultima ROM, still freeze sometimes.
6. Phone stops boots, if I turn on normally, shows a screen like an old tv, white with stripes.... also shows it when I plug it to charge it.
7. Only enters to download mode.
8. Tried to flash it, however says partition failed, there is no pit partition.
9. Tried with every single PIT partition mx that i found, and nothing, every time it says, Re-Partition failed.
10. Tried with a different computer, USB cable, everything... and nothing!..
11. Also tried with the rescue korean rom, and nothing.
12. Also tried with the single file from samfirmeware and the pit file, and nothing!
Any thoughts??? I'm desperate!

And the roms I flashed, in this order: 1. CyanogenMod 10.1, Paranoid, CyanogenMod again, and Ultima ROM.
After the installation of Paranoid, the device started to freeze, over and over again, and continue to do it over the other ROMs.
Also, I went to a so called "technician", and the guy says the mainboard must be replace, because i damage the bootloader.

Download a 3 file firmware from sammobile and also download mx.pit file.
Open odin.
Select pit and locate the mx.pit you have downloaded. Select repartion check box and flash it.
Then reset odin.
Click on pda and select the code file of your 3 file firmware.
Select modem and click on modem part of the 3 file firmware.
And then click on csc and select the csc file.
Make sure re partition is not selected and that the pit box is blank.
Then hit start and how it works.

Here's the link to a 3-file firmware:
https://hotfile.com/dl/156320160/eb4a939/I9300XXALE8_I9300OJVALE7_OJV.zip.html
Here's the one from SamMobile for the pit-files:
http://www.mediafire.com/?ddfpfkk2pb8326k
Zimbardo.ea originally posted this info on another thread. So credits to him/her for the links.
Use only the mx.pit in the pit rar.
If you manage to flash the pit but the 3 file firmware doesn't work, download speedmod kernel and flag the kernel only. Then go to cwm and then mounts and storage. Format system, data and cache. Then go back to download mode after a battery pull. And then flash the 3 file firmware again. Do not select a pit file and make sure re partition is unchecked.
This should work.
Hope it helps.

Thanks for the help man, however when I try to flash the pit file, I got this:
"Re-Partition operation failed."
So, as you can see I'm off on step 1.
Also on download mode shows:
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME:
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No
CURRENT BINARY: Samsung Official
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom.
So, no product name as you can see. And old TV set screen when I try to normally power on, or conecting the charger, or trying to go to recovery.
Got another trick under the sleeve? I would appreciate it... Thanks! :good:

It didn't do anything, Odin didn't have the time to flash the pit file, and it was already broken long before I try to re-partition the pit file through Odin.
So, no, that's not the problem.

it is the problem. even if the phone was bricked, it was reversible. flashing the wrong pit file made the damage irreparable

1)try different ODIN version and see (also ensure to Kill all 'KIES' processes on ur PC while running ODIn and also temporarily disable any antivirus software running on ur PC)
2)Try diff USB port/Cable and see.
Yep. Search.
'Odin flash fails/Odin won't work' gets covered dozens of times here on a slow week. Search for similar threads, there are a set of troubleshooting steps you need to try/keep trying (That I'm never posting here ever again, tho if you ask Hopper nicely he might regurgitate them for you).
Edit - And if people did the right thing & made these lazy people search for these threads rather than regurgitating **** over & over the world would be a much better place.

Try my guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2058683 just in case, if the kernel flash gets through and recovery boots up you have some fighting chance, else blind pit file flash bonanza or/and trashed motherboard/device.

I believe NAND Write Start stuck cannot be fix>?
Nand corruption sometimes pop up due to drivers conflict or odin being unable to write in your device's memory.
Why? Because the usual suspects:
Usb Cable
Usb Port
Odin version
Drivers conflict (another pc/laptop would be wise)
Antivirus

Odin gets stucked while flashing

Hi guys,
I need your help.I want to help a friend of mine to flash stock jb rom.
When tried to flash the first odin stucked at hidden and the second time at system after changing usb port and rebooting the computer.
I found somewhere that flashing pit file then the firm may work
Is that because he didn't do a factory reset before flashing?
He's got an s3 I9300 with orange rom 4.0.4.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Flashing a pit will usually hard brick the phone. If odin is correct version, phone is connected properly and you are flashing the right rom for your phone then the worst had already happened, nand failure.
You are missing a lot of information in your post, what does the screen say in download mode and how did you arrive at needing to flash back to stock?

Write out exactly what the phone screen says when in download mode.
Did you disable Kies before the flash, sounds to me like kies interrupted the flash
I can't contact him right now.Is it sure that the phone won't go back to download mode if the pit file was passed without firm ? If not is it possible to recover it with Jtag ?
@slaphead20 yes I killed it from the task manager

Doesn't sound good to me. I would have thought it was a send for repair job.
As you've already flashed a pit I think you have a hard brick, all I can suggest is try this thread:

I will try that. Thanks all for trying to help.Appreciate it
