[Q] PNG (.9) images replacable?? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Hello, I am wondering if I open an apk with 7-zip (not extract) and replace all images, including the .9 PNG's, and close it and push, set perms, etc. Will it work??
I know I can do it with regular PNG files, however, I am not sure about .9 PNG's.
Again, I am simply replacing, not changing XML, resources, etc.
If a developer of themer could please confirm, I would be ever so grateful....
Thanks in advance..

Anyone?

Bump...please...

You can change them, but you have to build the new ones in Eclipse.
Also, don't expect to be doing this kind of stuff for too much longer, with market apps getting ready to be encrypted, I assume this type of hackery will break them.

You need to redo the ninepatch, using the draw9patch tool in the SDK. When you edit the 9.png it becomes a regular .png (not stretchable).
See here: http://developer.android.com/tools/help/draw9patch.html

I don't actually want to change the images. I was going to take them out of another SystemUI.apk and put them in the other as mentioned. I am not going to be doing any editing of the .9 pngs other than replacing them with the same name and everything (just aesthically more pleasing to the eye)...
Thanks for your response by the way....Help me out

Nope, not scolding, but even apps like Gmail and youtube will probably be encrypted.
In the mean time, have at it lol.

Yeah, as long as it isn't systemui and framework-res and com.htc.resources.apk and several other system apks, then I am good...

you have to change length to 0, not padding though. Check this thread page for more details from the guy who did it originally: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=974112&highlight=black+status&page=11

I want make sure it works so I'm doing a fresh sbf flash, Ill post it when all goes well.
I tried doing this myself last night using framework-res.apk and services.jar from gingerblur, it worked...however I lost Facebook sync...i think that has something to do with services.jar, did that happen to you as well? Haven't tried the services.jar you used...

Maybe those wanting to test safely can use the recently uploaded recovery in order to backup first... Just a thought.

It has to do with framework-res.apk. Changing this file wipes out my facebook and google accounts. I dont know why. I ended up scraping my version and using the gingerblur theme only link in the first post, as it has reboot and recovery options as well.
This effed up my facebook/social networking widgets as well My motoblur account doesn't even show up in accounts anymore. Guess I should've backed up my **** before installing this, haha. Oh well.
When I go to the social networking app in my drawer it says:
"Social Networking" is not available without a social networking account. To create a new account click "Setup" button
After clicking "Setup" is takes me right back to the home screen. That's what I get lol.
Seems the only way to fix this **** is system restore and enter my motoblur account information again.

ui_print("Your Text Here");
Just download any CWR flashable rom or kernel and open META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script and you can see anything they put in.

How to create and package an update file for recovery:
http://www.londatiga.net/it/how-to-create-android-update-zip-package/
Basically you just make an bash script file (update-script) and echo out what you want to display or do with using that method.
Thanks guys! Very simple

Well, it sounded simple. I thought I'd just need to change some text in the updater-script file before I amassed it all in the kitchen, but its not that simple apparently. Item 151 on today's glitch list
Edit: if I package the rom w the updater, then extract the updater n add at the beginning ui_print("jibberish");
repackage n sign, would that work?
Yes, but you can also do it before hand. When it is building, and it gets to the point of converting the "update" script to a "updater" script, you can go into your working folder and edit it.
But also, after the build is done, you can keep the file compressed and edit the script also
Either way.

Nice. Now the question is, grab a beer n burger on lunch, or work on this?
I think im going to put it out without themeing any apps, just framework n the system. Its going to be a slimmer version of your hybrid. Doesn't seem as fast though but that might be bc I switched to adw ex from lpp, and I have every widget n animation going I can fit. I also might swap the music.apk with honeycombs, it goes w gallery3d well.
Hope u got my donation today, u deserve every penny for hooking us all up

Editing An HTC App

How would I go about, editing an HTC app? I don't use any of the stock skins like Blue Sky or Burgendy, so I removed those apks. I also want to erase there files from the Fusion.apk to save 20+ mb. Once I edited the apk, pushed it, set right permissions, rebooted, I was stuck at the Sense loading screen. (White HTC Screen.) So question is, how can i edit this so that I can remove this bloat and keep things running?
Bump! Please.
i dont think you can theyre files are written straight into the m10's and i dont think you can delete m10's
There's multiple m10s. One for each skin. Should be fine without the ones for the deleted skins. Just don't know how to get it to work after deleting them.
Bump. Please.
What are you using to sign? You have to make sure you aren't signing it as a system app.
Signing with test keys. Tried it unsigned and neither work. Also did the right permissions.... Lost.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=695701
Use this. Don't sign it as a non-system app.

[Q] has anyone changed their boot logo or animation?

Has anyone had any luck? The romtoolbox apk has this option but it doesn't work.
Supposedly Snowball mod has this. (I say supposedly only because I have not seen it myself.)

I can confirm that snowball does this. Nook is changed to the word hack.

The standard bootanimation process will not work on the nook tablet. For some reason, they decided to dump the bootanimation into the framework-res.apk, and it will not load up any other version.
If the /data/local/bootanimation.zip exists or /system/media/bootanimation.zip exist, then the /system/bin/bootanimation binary will see them, and attempt to load them, but they will not actually DISPLAY anything, even though they are actually running. This results in a black screen during the bootup process.

Has anyone tried replacing the one in framework-res? I've replaced a lot of .pngs in there without issue, wondering if that will cause issue.

As someone noted, snowball-mod has been doing this for a long time.
However, I don't know if changing it from the 256x256x24bit pngs that they are will break anything. So, I would stick to that.

I would suggest giving it a try to see what happens.
Then you could create a cool batch file that will allow the rest of us to do it the easy way...please?

Short of installing a custom ROM, there is no way to make it work "the easy way".

Well what I perceive as an 'easy' way so far is using NinjaMorph to open up the .apks live on the tablet, replace the files I want to replace, which has been simple icon .pngs so far, then restart the Tablet. I usually dump the files on the sd card with dropbox since they're never large.
I use apktool to dump the original apks on my pc so I can see what I want to change and start with.

Removing HTCLinkifydispatcher for youtube links...

I am following the directions on removing the HTCLinkifydispatcher.apk to get the youtube links to open in the app again, but I can not get it to work. I deleted the apk, cleared defaults on browser, and rebooted. Still opens in web browser... what am I missing?
And yes I am rooted.
Clear cache and dalvik cache
Where are these instructions? I'd love to fix that.

I'm interested in this too.
Instructions are here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1675717
However,

For anybody reading this bumped thread still:
The buld.prop editing is needed too.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27079114
Edit: And really the build.prop edit is all that is needed. Makes sense as that tells whether to use the apk's method or not period, not totally necessary to delete it (except out of spite ):

I was entertaining the possibility I could wind up flashing a build.prop mod or backup with those values we're editing left in as default carelessly.
Fallback precaution, ya know? Breaks links in text messages and gtalk, couple other quirks if apk is gone and those build.prop values are still at default.
Would probably realize the change in behavior again and know what happened, but things won't "break as bad" at first, at least.
