Spam notifications? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Brand new phone from yesterday! I keep getting these spam notifications. any ideas how to stop it? hopefully without having to Download another app that will use the battery even more. The icon is a red star.
I wonder if it's cause the Battery issue as well. 4 hour little usage and only 43% battery life left!
1 day with this phone and i'm starting to feel like it was a mistake.

Return it

This is the worst advice ever.
Download Airpush Detector and find out which app is sending you notifications, then uninstall it.

It's most likely an app you downloaded. I've had that happen before. Once you find the app that's causing it and uninstall, it'll stop. No point in returning the phone when it's an easily fixed, user-created problem.

Was going to advise the exact same thing. I do highly doubt this is as a result of the software that came with the phone either.
Airpush is an awesome little app. Helped me out a few times too.

I hate these notifications. There are from some app you installed.
With Jelly Bean if you tap and hold the notification it will send you to the app that create it and you can disable all notifications from that app. Niceeeeee! No more ninja spam!

Thanks for the advice I'll get the app and try to figure out where its coming from. By the way heres screenshot of what it looks like.

Easy Mp3 downloader was culprit I think...

Sounds some apps pop spam.
I have the same problem when I download a game app.
After I download it, every time I connect to internet I would have a spam notification.
You could uninstall the spam app or reset your phone or rooted it by ROM provided in XDA.

Usage Monitor disappeared!

My wife and I both have Rezounds. I went to show her the Usage Monitor so she could track her minutes, and its not in her App Drawer. Titanium Backup shows it as installed though. I've tried to freeze and defrost it in an effort to make it come back, but it didn't work. Any suggestions?

Appreciate the reply, but I think you misunderstood. The Rezound comes with an app that lets you track your minutes/text/data usage so you don't go over your monthly allowance. I'm not looking to track battery usage.
Go to your widgets its not an app.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using XDA App
No, what the op is referring to is an app, not a widget.
Op try clearing cache and restarting. If that doesn't work...try a different launcher and see if that gets the app to show up in the app drawer. If that doesn't work, I'd look at getting adb running and shell in to the system to see if u can see the app listed in /system/app, if so copy it to the sdcard and try installing it on the phone from there.
Otherwise, worst case scenario, a restore.

I had this issue on my incredible 2 running sense 3.5 roms. If you have Verizon my mobile app installed it overwrites or hides the usage monitor app.
If you uninstall Verizon my mobile and restart the rezound usage monitor will show up.
I just tried it and it worked. The one Dev I mentioned it to back on the inc2 hypothesized that the apks are similar and thus causes the stock usage app to disappear.

[Q] Tab won't stay asleep

My Tab won't stay asleep. It randomly wakes up for a few seconds (5-10) then goes back to sleep. I can't seem to pin down a rhyme or reason as it doesn't always happen, but it does happen often. My main concern is battery drain. I'm running Task 14 with a boosted theme and stock kernel. I've reflashed the Rom but the issue still exists. Does anybody have any suggestions on what I can try?
Your Not Alone!!
I would like to know also, as I have spotted mine do this too on occasions, anyone got any ideas out there please?
BTW, I am also running a Boosted themed Task14 with Pershoots kernel
I am not sure in this case, but I guess it could be an app you have installed. You should monitor with task manager which tasks are running and switch them off temporary to find out which app cause the problem.

I put both cpu spy and b.b.s. along with watchdog on, and can't seem to spot anything weird. Nothing is hogging a lot of juice, and it has plenty of deep sleep time. When it does a random wake up and I use the TouchWiz task manager it shows no active apps and Watchdog only shows minor things in the background, I'm not familiar with b.b.s. or cpu spy, is there something I should be looking for I am missing? Thanks for trying to help me figure this out.

You can also send a log of your bbs stats to the bbs thread and let them see if they can see anything

Thanks for the tip. Yeah I use b00sted's ICS theme. I noticed the other person in this thread with the same problem is also using one of his themes which points in that direction except that I believe they are pretty widely used and tested themes. However I will probably remove it when I get around to reflashing the ROM as I think that's the only way to remove it to see if that solves the issue.
In case anyone was wondering, I think I got the problem figured out. I use the honeybar app to bide my task bar. When I disable it, I no longer see the problem. (it's been a couple of days and I haven't caught it lighting up yet.)

Strange Download Question

Just so you all know, I've searched the forums, google, and read the consolidated q&a thread and haven't found this anywhere.
I bought 2 evo's, 1 for me and 1 for my wife. My wife's evo on the pull down notifications says "Event Highlights for the week" is downloading. I can't seem to stop this and I don't know what it is. It runs all the time. This does not happen on mine.
Anyone see this and have a solution?
Thanks.
B.T.W., Stock, rooted, S-on.
My dad had a download stuck in the notification bar.
I had to clear data for download manager, force close download manager, then restart the phone.
The culprit was an attachment he was attempting to download through gmail.
Hope this helps,

An app cache cleaner and removing the battery would accomplish this too if I'm not mistaken.

Thhaaaatttt seems a little excessive on a phone that you would have to take apart to accomplish such a thing
Anyway, my girlfriend had the same thing happen to her, sometimes notifications gets stuck like that. On her case I just force closed the app and re opnened it, downloaded the attachment correctly then. So try to force close before you erase data

I have tried different roms. I have superwiped my sd card and formatted my external card. I have flashed the stock ICS firmware and then tried flashing from that. I have tried to use System Tuner from the market to freeze or disable some of the responsibilities of downloads, downloads, sec.android.providers.downloads, drm content manager and it just seems to make other things not work like the market or downloading files.
I don't know what else to do but I cannot seem to shake this battery drain...please help!!!

My worst is network location locator that drains my battery, only just installed bbs yesterday so not sure what all the wakelocks mean or alarms or anything else.
I know media is your downloads and you probably have your apps on auto update.
Doesn't have many instructions.
You must have a very low screen setting for 20% mine is at least at 70 and that's when I have it on auto brightness

You have the media scanner bug. There is no real cure but formatting the external sd card can help.
The simplest solution is just to force close it. It should not return until you reboot .
It's a Samsung issue so until they fix it we just have to live with it

I did format it and started from scratch but it is still being a *****, lol. However, I installed bbs and after 4 hours of it runnning while at work it reset itself for some reason and doesn't show me a log. But I plugged and unplugged and seem to be having some drain but not as much.

Sorry was late here when I posted, I should have explained.
Run the app from the app drawer, hit the disable Media Scanner button. This will kill the media scanner everytime you reboot (if you are roorted, assume you are). To rescan for media just open the app and then close it.
Check after a reboot to make sure Media is not chewing up the battery. It works for me under JB and also did under GB.
If you use Tasker you should be able to achieve the same thing. So you could just kill that process with Tasker and either run it and kill it at certain times or the author of the above also has an app just called Rescan Media which you could just run via tasker at a given time interval. Personally never found the need but I guess it depends on how much media you actiually hold on your device etc...

I googled it, there are many threads on that subject. Here are two interesting quotes from this thread to begin:
B.Diddy said:
1. I have Wakelock Detector as well, and if I tap on 1013, it mentions "Type: System (media)," and under that, "AudioOut_2." Appears to be a system app necessary for sound output. Do you have any media apps running in the background, like Pandora or Slacker?
2. This is probably the best and most authoritative article I've found so far related to 1013/AudioOut. It's pretty technical and much of it goes way over my head, but scroll all the way down and read the "Test Case" section. It may be that some app you have on your device (not necessarily a music app) might be a little buggy, and is not properly closing certain processes (like 1013/AudioOut).

Its wakelock summary of your phone. See which app is waking your device and draining your battery.
Install custom rom with kernel twiks and other twiks which disable all this wakelocks and alarms or if you wish to stick to stock rom then you have to root your phone and try AMPLIFY app. Which can disable it. you can see a dedicated thread on xda for this battery draining issue on amplify where you will find everything. just find it and go through it.
