Bought a new TP 64GB from Amazon. Worked for 2 days, then the computer stopped recognizing it. MANY MANY calls to Asus "support" had me jump through all kinds of hoops trying everything to get the thing to work. Finally I ship the TP to Texas at MY expense for RMA. I finally got it back an hour ago UNCHANGED. They never even tested it to see if they fixed it. Now I call and get ANOTHER RMA, and have to send it in again. Never buy another Asus product. Period.

Ha! I'm not laughing at you my friend, but just the situation in general. I just got an RMA # for this annoying LCD mura that I have as a result of Asus' crappy displays that they used, but I doubt I'm actually going to use it since the only thing worse than their product design is their RMA process. Judging from the majority of threads on XDA, you should probably just be happy that they didn't break it on you and either blame you for customer-induced damage or just ship you back a broken tablet. Asus sucks.

i have no idea why anyone would be so stupid to send it to Asus when you could have just sent it back to amazon no quesions asked and gotten a new one or a refund and then ordered a replacement.

That was my thinking exactly. The OP states that after 2 days there were problems. Within that short of a time period I would have been going straight back to where it was purchased and asking for a replacement or refund. (online retailer or not).

exactly. they go from a company - Amazon - that is pretty much the gold standard for customer service amongst online retailers where they could have easily dealt with them and had a prime in their hands within a few days to trying to RMA it through Asus when there are a million threads and horror stories already on this board. makes no sense.
the LAST thing you should ever do is try to send it back to the company to fix when you can get a new unit.

This a true story? Why would you get an RMA from Asus when you could have just returned it back to Amazon and got a new one? I've received 5 Prime tablets from Asus RMA department and all of them had issues. If you actually read some of the older posts in here when everyone was RMA'ing their Prime's most people had like an average of 3 RMA returns for one tablet. The RMA process just made it worse.
hate to be one of those "cool story bro" guys, buuuuut this seems to be an exception. haven't seen a bad rma experience posted in at least the last month. sent mine in for a camera and lcd screen mura issue and had it back in hand within 12 days good to go. they've gotten a lot better. also, have you tried using any other computers? if they sent it back and its still not working, have you considered that your computer might be messed up?
anyways, good luck either way! i love my prime and although asus kinda screwed up with some aspects of the tablet, i'm super happy with it. cheers

Yes I checked other computers and the tech support folks had me try that and a bunch of other stuff as well before giving me an RMA. The tech people were fine. I just think they didn't test it before returning to me, or meant to send me a replacement and sent the original; back by mistake. I have been surprised at this experience for I did my homework before deciding to buy the prime and it was rated #1 in most reviews.

This was not an Amazon problem and I felt it would not be fair to return it to them for an Asus issue.

but it goes back to asus after you return it to them. it's the easier way to deal with all of this.
as for your prime, have you tried downloading the latest firmware file from the asus website and pushing that? does your charger work? anyways, best of luck!

Yes I tried all those ideas and the Asus folks had me check all those things as well. The port does work for charging, but is no longer recognized by a computer. It seems to have happened to a number of other primes too because I've seen other descriptions very similar. I put up one post where I asked people who had this issue and sent their prime in to RMA to report what Asus found when they completed the repair, but no one was willing to respond. I was going to report what the problem was when I got mine back but Asus didn't repair it, they just returned it..........
In all honesty, they received mine one week and was fixed and returned by the beginning of the next week. BUT, I can say that they did use some tool to open the case which scratched my freaking paint in some places I guess they figure just be happy we fixed it. In the paper work included in the return box somethings said fixed - void warranty, what does that mean.

I'm hearing nothing but problems. I hear the majority of primes have some form of defect. It seems to me that ASUS screwed up pretty royally with there launch.
I'm in canada and i have a preorder on some small time website. Whats the story? is it only these first few that have defects?
I doubt i would be able to return it to my retailer so im really worried about getting a defected model.
Most things are some small issues so worst that happens is you keep it for a few weeks until stocks fill up and can exchange
My hunch is that the first batch of Primes were defective. ASUS halted the shipment to Canada and delayed the shipment to the US so they could examine existing Prime inventory and correct the wifi problem. They likely had to open each prime to fix it, which likely caused new problems which seen reported here like the Prime screens bleeding light, and looseness, and markings on the basel.
Hopefully those who are waiting in pre-order hell will be the lucky ones who will get the next new batch of Primes fresh off the conveyor belt with the wifi problem fixed.
That's my hunch.

screen bleeding, bad wifi, something else.. lol (not dead pixel, could care less)
plus a couple of peoples are just crapping out on them. those issues would bug the crap out of me.
and i couldn't return it to my provider, but could i return it to ASUS?
If your retailer had them in stock you could return it to them if not have to go through asus
As for issues don't worry many people have perfect tablets some just got unlucky Asus will sort it all out

tell you what. my prime is perfect. not a problem at all.
Mines not. My gamestop prime has horrid wifi screen bleeding and no gps... It actually just rebooted after freezing while viewing this very thread... I just want the tablet to work... I hope gamestop will exchange it with a version thatcomes in jan or feb... Im not even a room over and i am between -70 and -80 on wifi analyzer.... Awful.... But i am willing to wait if it means i can get working prime
kinda makes me glad I didn't get a prime now. after going 4 tfs I wondered if asus could do better with their second Gen tablet... doesn't seem like they've done much qc this go round either.
guess I'll be getting another Sammy when they get released.
I've been using mine all day long, haven't noticed any problems with mine, no screen bleed...wifi works good for my situation, only thing I can see wrong is it looks like I may have one dead pixel but it doesn't bother me enough..plus if it does bother me ill just wait a little but for fresher models

I'm actually glad I ordered my 64 GB now... once I accepted the fact that I wasn't going to get it before Christmas, I am glad and hopeful that some of these initial problems might be ironed out & better quality control put in place, in the next few weeks before I'm expected to receive mine; the rush to push the product out before the holidays being over now.

My Prime is working great. Everything works well including wi-fi and GPS.
No bleeding, battery is great and no lagginess whatsoever, no matter what I am doing.
I doubt "the majority" have problems. It's just that people are more likely to post their problems with their Primes (in the hopes to get them fixed) than others whose Primes are working well.
It's certainly not a clean launch by any means. But to say the majority of Primes are defective is a jumping to conclusions.
If your unit is defective, return it for a new one.
Just got to open mine today for Christmas, although it arrived from Newegg 2 days ago. I also got the docking station. Knock on wood, mine seem to be working just fine so far.
heh...mine was working flawlessly...that is until I charged it to 100% and powered it off. It now will not turn on so I guess I got a nice shiny cutting board for Christmas.

Not to make light of the situation, but it probably would make a good cutting board - did you see the video of that guy cutting apples on the screen? You would need to make sure the juices don't ruin the circuit board, though.

You mean there's no pin-hole to do a hard reset like you could do on a smartphone or PDA?

Yup, just there is but it did nothing when I pushed it. The only life in the unit is a green LED when the charger's plugged into the wall. It doesn't even show up on my PC when I plug it in. Good and truly dead it seems.
At least I got a couple of hours out of it before it died. Other than the whole catastrophic power failure thing it was a real pleasure to use...except maybe for the vibration...it also seemed a little busted.

Every new tablet had it's issue. Look at all the early threads for each tablet. Some people had issues, some people didn't. Your choice whether you want to venture down that road or wait. But what I have seen is that the later models, it has taken longer to get root because the development had the earlier models.

Returned mine to BB store today because screen wouldn't turn on, got a refund. Was willing to take another if the had any....but they didn't. Got refund and bought on off of Newegg about 2hrs later.
Returned mine yesterday after ICS update and some of my games and app stopped working. The thread to revert back to HC didn't exist yet so I thought I was SOL and my 14 day was up so I didn't have a choice. The only thing really broke on it was GPS but I didn't really use it anyway. And another reason I returned is because of the 7 inch prime coming out. That's my preffered size anyway. Plus its half the price of the 10 inch. I may still consider the 10 inch but probably will buy from Amazon so I can save on tax

I returned mine, wifi was fine, screen was perfect. ICS update had it rebooting all the time. I was on the last day to return it. Seemed like a better deal than a RMA. I have a dock still. I'd like a working one, they are sold out. If ICS had broken all of them I would have waited. But some work so there must be a hardware aspect

I'm in the same situation as you. ICS messed everything up for me, but don't know if I should wait for ASUS to fix it. I have till friday to return mine to BB. I just got the dock too
I returned mine on Tuesday due to the unknown serial number. I was going to re-order, but decided to save $100 and ordered the original TF-101. It was on sale for $399 (32GB). I decided stability was better than raw speed. When the next great tablet comes out, and isn't plagued with so many issues, maybe I'll upgrade.
I returned mine aswell. After the ICS upgrade it freezes on the first bootscreen. After a few times it boots normal but then after a few minutes it freezes again and i can start all over.
NEVER! LOL. device works to great for me to do such a silly thing
Having a perfectly running Prime with ICS I can't imagine using anything else at this time. All other tabs are a joke compared to Prime.

I returned mine on tuesday to BB. I just never felt confident with my purchase with the design flaws it had. I wasn't one of the people that *****ed that it had terrible GPS but my wifi sure took a hit. Next to my Photon phone, my phone would pick up better Wifi from my home network. The other annoyance was when the screen would not come on sometimes. I would have to hit the reset button to get it to start up again. I think it was just a combination of things that made me decide that if I was to spend this much money on a luxury item, ALL aspects of it should work beautifully. It sucks not having a toy to play with but I figure if I waited this long without one, I can wait a little bit longer for one that suits my needs all around.
Going back to Best Buy Today. I have the dreaded Serial Number Unknown Bug and cannot update firmware at all or root it.
Thanks Asus!
Mine was locking up and freezing after ics. I returned it to Best Buy yesterday and they accepted it no questions asked. Bought a new one on newegg yesterday that should be delivered today.

I returned a total of four to local Best Buy. Three belonging to me and one to my neighbor. My first two were returned within the first two weeks. My last one and my neighbors were twenty days. They did not want to refund stating it was past 14 days. I pulled out my iPhone and showed the manager the statement released by Asus in reference to the shell design hinderng wireless signals and also removing GPS as a spec. I said this is no longer the product that was advertised when I made my purchase. Primes were refunded along with keyboards.
I must say that it feels like a weight has been lifted. My neighbor had decided to ignore the Wifi and GPS issue but about 8 hours after updating to ICS his Prime started having very frequent App crashes that factory reset did not fix.
The "Oficial" Returns thread has Official spelled incorrectly.
...as a side observation, what has ever made any thread in forums "official" other than some non-mod nobody deciding that it's going to be official because he puts it in the title?
Mine is packaged in the box waiting to get dropped off at UPS to return to Amazon.
Said, bye bye...
After working with Asus on rebooting issue and the lack of GPS/ low wifi signal I finally said...Bye, bye to my Transformer Prime, Drove my Chevy to the Best Buy cause the reboots made me cry...
i contacted gamestop 2 days ago and they said they were getting a new shipment on the 11th for 2nd wave of pre orders and that if they had any left over i could exchange mine but they didnt think they would. manager advised me he put in an order with game stop product replacement and that he would call me when they got one.
it is not the 12th and they just called me and i just exchanged my prime for another one.
still wasn't able to get a champagne gold one. i swear those are rare or they only come in 64 GB model.
that was very fast turn around though to exchange so anyone who purchased theirs from gamestop might want to ask if the manager can put in a request for a product replacement.
Returned mine to gamestop today for refund.

I know I probably shouldn't bother posting as its probably similar to a number of other threads that have been around recently but I really had to share my experiences since I got my prime back from RMA.
I had a number of problems with the prime originally and I was regretting my purchase with a number of problems but was happy to give them a chance to RMA.
After receiving it back there where a couple of things which I spoke to them about and got resolved, I then updated it with the .21 software, since then, its been like a breathe of fresh air.
- I got splashtop working to my home pc and was running microsoft word/excel on the prime as it was native. Was absolutely excellent and ran perfectly
- Downloaded some games from the play store, and had such a nice experience as well as awesome graphics
- Played a few snes games through the HD cable to the TV using an xbox 360 controller, absolutely awesome again, a portable console for sure
- Got the beta of tapatalk 2 which runs so well on the prime which has let me go through all of the forums I normally use a PC for - definitely worth a purchase when its fully released.
- Internet browing using the STOCK browser has been fantastic, a couple of pauses but not enough to bother me, preferred it over dolphin and chrome as well
Summarised up, it has been probably the best thing i've used for the last few years, and I think with the new .21 software it is a now an excellent device.
Anyone thinking of buying but are worried about software, IMO can relax and go for it.
Sorry if you guys are all sick of hearing all this kind of stuff, but I was one that had problems and since RMA and update they have been completely resolved and I couldn't recommend it more now - and that includes people that I would only recommend ipad too before.
P.s. I recommend getting google cloud print set up, then download a program called Cloud Print for the prime. Can print perfectly from the prime

Out of curiosity, what were the issues resolved by the RMA? And, what are the first 5 digits of the serial number?
Issues I had where:
Light bleed,
Faulty Keyboard,
Non Existent GPS (still around, but will be happy once I get a dongle)
WIFI was weak
Lots of crashing.
.21 software fixed the crashing and my wifi seems pretty good now (better than my desire hd), they replaced keyboard and the screen is bleed free.
My serial number starts: BC0KA and was purchased on 6th Jan in UK.

RMA Issues
Hello,
I recently found out that my transformer prime had a soft spot on the back shell and it was causing creaking, I also have a dead pixel on the front.
I want to return it, but there were a few problems.
-The RMA number was recieved on March 14th, today is April 9th, and I'm not sure if its too late to send it
-I accidentally unlocked the device after rooting it, and I tried to factory reset and now I'm stuck in clockwork recovery mod and I can't get out
-I am not sure if this is still fixable
I'm not sure if this is the right thread to go to, but I really really need some help.
They have to receive it within 30 days of the RMA issue date.

Unlocked bootloader=no warranty. Sorry to break it to you, but even if you get your prime to Asus your RMA will most likely be DOA. The only avenue I can suggest is emailing Asus and pleading your case.

How do you accidentally unlock. That doesn't sound legit. There are massive warnings when unlocking. It would be impossible to do so. Sounds like you acted before you thought fully about it, and are now having unlocking remorse and are trying to cook up some story.

called the asus number for rma, was quick and simple and easy. they sent me a fedex rma thing where it was prepaid.
i noticed a lot of people had to pay to ship it back, but it wasnt the case for me as they paid for shipping it back to them.
I was wondering for those that had to send it back for rma, did you all had to pay to ship it to asus? weird.

Not with me they asked me to box it up myself but they paid fully for shipping and handling costs both ways including arranging pick up from a location of my choice.

I did mine through FedEx, for them to box it and ship standard was $30, ASUS didn't offer to pay 1 cent. Since they fixed a problem under warranty I'm going to raise hell for my $30 back. Being as they fixed a "warranty" issue they are basically admitting there was a manufacturing fault with the unit which makes it their responsiblity. I'm not doing anything until I get my unit back and make sure it all works right first
Hey guys i need some help. Well my the 40 pin connector on my prime are all bent and now it doesn't even want to turn on anymore, i'm assuming its because of that. Does anyone whether this piece is something that can be bought online somewhere? I really don't want to bother calling ASUS cos i kinda already know what they'll say. Besides, my warranty is voided anyways.
Or does anyone know of a good repair place for tablets?
my Prime is two months old and the same thing happened to me. I just sent it in for RMA. Seems to be a common problem.

I thought your Prime warranty was voided? Did you unlock it? I'm asking as there seems to be some discrepancies on what constitutes an unlocked bootloader voided warranty. I hear conflicting reports....some people are saying that you're totally screwed and I'm hearing others are getting RMA's due to some manufacturing hardware problems. Just curious if you're unlocked but yet still getting an RMA. Thanks.

Bit off topic but still on topic. If you guys still have that little plastic clip that came with the original packaging, I would use that to protect the pins when not in use. This is what I do. It doesn't look that bad without a case. I don't even notice mine because I have a case.
Just sent in my prime for repair of the back cam and a few other minor issues on June 1. Today (June 6) the service place contacted me with a message that the device was repaired and will be shipped back soon. This really surprised me considering the horror stories of broken tabs and really long RMA times. So maybe now that the onslaught of tabs being sent to RMA is over they are a little more efficient. It hasn't shipped yet so hopefully it does within the week, and comes back all nice and fixed. Just thought I'd let you guys know.

UPDATE: They shipped it on June 7 and the tracking info says its due in Monday, ill let you guys know it it is fixed and in good condition when I receive it.
UPDATE:Just got the tablet today, 100% fixed, absolutely no scratches, and nice packaging. I'm super happy, now to get back to rooting and playing around with this thing, I missed not having it even though it was only a week and a half or so.
yeah I sent mine in 2nd week into may for a digital crack in the screen (very VERY weird) and minor things i figured they could tweek, wifi, gps, small light bleeds, bt audio being out of sync with videos. It took 2 weeks and the only issue I've had is that they were trying to send it to my home address (which i have no idea how they got in the first place) and when i told them to send it to my OFFICE they sent it to my DAMN HOME with a NOTE INSIDE saying to send it to my office >_> stupid CS reps.... so i spent 3 days chasing fedex around but for the most part RMA wasn't as painful as the stories have been told. And I have a nice fresh screen (they coulda did a better job packaging it up instead of literally looking like they jus threw this plastic on top)

I hope to add positive results in a few weeks.

My experience was pretty positive as well; it took only a couple of weeks to send the device in and get it back (with shipping both ways paid for). On the other hand, I suspect my problem was pretty minor (dock wouldn't work with tablet).
my experience with Asus is very good, buy not this time, I've sent my prime 6 weeks back, because the camera didn't work, I still don't know if they've fixed it or not

That sounds about right based on the majority of RMA stories here on XDA. It may be a small segment from Asus, but I'm certain they've lost a few customers forever as a result of the way they've handled many aspects of the Prime. I certainly will never be buying another Asus product again (which is a shame, since it sounds like the first Nexus tablet will be Asus).
