Hi xda users, I have observed that since rooting my stock ics 4.0.4 my Xperia is overheating a lot! While charging the temperature even goes to 40 degree...
Are you guys also experiencing the same problem? Please reply!

Kernel? Overclock?
Do you use the stock kernel? Or are you using a costum one (for ex the alliance kernel)?
I am using stock kernel.. Haven't unlocked the bootloader..
I have observed that the problem has been occurring since rooting.. Earlier it was fine!

i have the same problem..but since updated at ics... temperature raise when i start data connection...
Take a look at the processes running in the backround, maybe data counter is out of control but it is quite strange Does your battery last less than before?
Same Here
I have unlocked boot loader and rooted 4.0.4
my neo V also get heated a lot....
any help
And what are you doing with the phone, when it is happening? If you are playing some 3D games, then is normal.
Odesláno z mé Xperie Neo & sorry for my english :-D
it happen when data connection is up (skype for example)
Its hard to say what is normal and what is overheating. It could be cause ics too, i have phone realy warm after for example long call or Skype (like you said) or sth like that. But i dont much care of it cause i guess Its normal (i have overclock to 1,4Ghz)

When using data it's insane. Try streaming radio or video using your data bundle. You'll put the device back after 10 minutes because otherwise your hands will burn.

SOLUTION: Go to settings>More>mobile networks> network mode>[WCDMA only]
SOLUTION2: unlock bootloader using test points>replace KERNEL use Suave Kernel v6
My mobile phones temp is normaly 35C while idle.
and 44 while using it for gaming.
Guess what it is summer and it too hot.

you should be knowing that while charging temp reaches around 40 mine to gets more than 40 in summers while you should check ur cpu frequency it should not be more than 1024mhz it can be checked by setcpu and not on charging than also above 40 u should get it checked as if it is overheating it can damage display as some of neo screen also got burned due to overheating
1) Get a custom kernel
2) Set the CPU frequency to Max 1,4 GHz / 245 Min
After i did that the max tempreture when playing a game was 37 and when using it just for calling and browsing the web, around 33.

I guys, so i want to know if there is any kernel already made to overclock my Neo with the ICS beta or if i have to wait for that?
My Neo is really losing performance with ICS because i can only use 1ghz, i was using the MIUI clean and fast and i was loving it but i change to ICS to see the diference and its very good to but with OC i can't compare it to MIUI because MIUI win's easy xD
Thanks guys
Short answer is NO.
If Sony publishing their kernel source..then we get OC kernel.

Thanks for the explanation, i will put MIUI again until we have a better ICS.
Someone had very bad battery life.
Like i had last night when i post the topi like 85% of battery i played drag racing like 30 minutos i my battery goes to 54% and i put the phone in deppsleep and this morning after 8 hours in deppsleep with 54% i run out of battery and i wake up with a "dead" phone. Now is changing what a hell xb
P.s My battery graphic is a a line just going down
Thanks
Returning to MIUI
Can you guys give me some suggestion what Rom / kernel should I use to get the best battery life?
Some tips would be highly appriciated
Any useful post will hit my thanks

I am using the stock ICS ch, after turning off "downloadagent & facebook app" my battery life has doubled.
I'm using the XSX Kernel with the MIUI ROM I'm getting much more than I used to on the ICS. I'm still new to the all these CPU governors and stuff. But yeah an improvement is what I'm seeing and I'm finally satisfied with the device.
Kernel :XSX v3.3
ROM MIUI 2. 27 or something [the newest]
Governor: Smartassv2
Do try it
I'm using MIUI ROM with advanced stock kernel and I can tell you my battery life is much greater than ICS.

im having good battery life also now, havent have this good before, im on stock .45 with latest v6 supercharger, and my kernel is dual boot kernel.
i dont know but im liking my battery right now, for example when im not using my phone, before i got 5-10% drop without using for 9hrs, but now ive got no drop at all,
yesterdat i checked its still 100% , and now after 17 hrs with minor playing and phone calls only, i still got 77%, huge battery drain for me is while im on playing, but @ normal usage i only got minor battery drain. im liking this right now

overclocking is not advised as the oem set the clock speed to an optimum value...below it you will lose performance and above it you will force your cpu to age early.
for gingerbread you dont need to OC at all...however for ICS OC helps to run smoothly...i dont overclock above 1.2gzs...this is a safe value and wont push the cpu to the limits.
no OC and works fine
I used 1,4 GHz for a week on ICS and my phone is still going strong, but don't take the risk. If you can't stand the lag, use Jelly bean or Gingerbread.
Why nothing about underclocking?
Well i use underclocking than over clocking....my phone needs to survive the longer power couts in my location
one +factor of underclocking..... less battery drain ^^
For daily use i set min 245 and max 806 and it's ok. Battery hold longer.
I OC to 1.4; 1.6 to individual apps like Real Racing.
When playing hard games 1.6 gHz, but for daily use i dont overclock it at all, or i just overclock it to 1.2 gHz.
Im on locked bl and just use all day 1024 Mhz with performence with antutu cpu master pro and cpu spy plus (new on the playstore, very good app) and just running fast with Jelly sandwich 7.1 and in 1 word... Just flying !!!
Send to ya face with my flying Xperia Neo V with Jelly Sandwich 7.1 + Cheese !!!

Safe OC is 1.4 IMO.
But every silicon chip is different and you may or may not get stability issues after overclock.
Also, overclocking is like smoking. Though you enjoy it, you're effectively killing yourself.
If you ask me, I never OC my phone.
And @Pandemic, don't use performance governor,
It kills your phone without overclock.
Also, it causes battery drain...

You my friend, don't know what you're talking about.
You manipulate hardware when you
Overclock. But it's a completely harmless software manupulation when you root.
So you can root and still not kill your phone

Moved thread to Q&A Let's keep things nice everyone, happy discussing!
1.9ghz for gaming
1.4Ghz bcoz Arc S uses the T variant of the chip which seems like just an exact copy at a higher clock.
my neo runs at 1.4g, 1150mv
my opinion
oc at higher voltage, bad
oc and undervolt a bit, ok

Mate,if you brick your phone software, that can be easily fixed with Flashtool,SEUS,PC Companion etc.If you brick your phone hardware, that piece of hardware become useless, and must be replaced. So you can't compare bricking hardware with bricking software.

Hey guys , thanks for clicking the thread. So thanks to you guys at XDA developers i managed to root my phone and unlock my boot loader on ics . So i downloaded this app called no frills CPU and i overclocked my phone to 1.8ghz .
The settings on no frill where:
max 1,8 min 1,8
governor: smartassv2 ( also tried on demandX and others ...)
I/O: noop
. I am on the stock ICS rom and i think i have doom lords kernel installed . So any ideas why the quadrant score is around 1400? . I've seen on YouTube etc people getting more than 2000 and some exceeding 4000. So just wondering why it is so low. DO i need to install custom roms to make it more faster? i did some searching about but i still dont get how people get such high scores. since i have overclocked my phone seems a bit more responsive but i have not seen a mega boost in speed any help?
for start change that minimal clock freq.! Do you have any idea what you are playing with?
if max is at 1.8GHz, why min should be also at 1.8GHz?? logic?

Mate,a suggestion :
First of all ask such questions in General chat thread
Next,1.8 for normal use is like Frying your phone
Reduce to 1.4 for normal use,
And lastly, people who've replied are experienced guys and know what they are doin and when they suggest,I wouldn't like to go against and be a dumbass
There's a reason why people tell you not to Oc your phone of normal 1gHz to 1.8gHz !

I always have my packet data on and for about a year I never went over 10%/hour while browsing net outside of WiFi range.
In my case I narrowed the problem down basically to "screen on" state. Suddenly it multiplied power consumption even with packet data and GSM off (level of brightness doesn't matter, simply being on did this).
It persisted through ROM changes (reverting back to stock, different ICS, GB and JB ROMs). I'm not alone in this, as I found dozens of similar cases all over the net, but no solution. Some suggest hardware malfunction, like motherboard short-circuiting.
@halfblack :Well maybe I'm mistaken. But that's normal on some ROMs. My bad! Never faced such an issue.
Sent from my Xperia Neo V using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I'm sorry if I sounded aggressive. It's just that inability to deal with this problem is frustrating.
And you are surely right about some ROMs, especially ICS-based, having minor or major battery issues. UHD should, in my case does, have it under control though.

there's a lot you can do, either get a new custom rom, try a different kernel, go for stock based ones, it's always good to start there. check whether you have gprs or data activated which usually causes drain. how much your battery is being used also dictates towards the drain. if all the above is ok, the kernel might be the issue for rapid drain
get screenies so we can guide you better...

The stock roms and stock based roms are not at all battery friendly...I'm on moProject42 4.2.2 and my battery hardly drains even if I leave wifi on without switching on wifi optimization. My battery drain is about 1% every 7-8 mins if wifi and screen are on.. I always have around 180mb free ram (which I think almost no one gets after 7-8 hrs of use in ICS based stock roms), use SmartassH3 CPU governor on just 806MHz and still don't face slightest lag in any game I play (Temple run, subway surfers, MotoGP)
The point is there is loads of bloatware running in such roms that battery drain is normal..
Most of the stock based roms and stock roms lack lots of battery and performance tweaks...It's time to switch to cyanogenmod

as far as i remember, ultimate hd 5.0.1 has offline charging...but if you are getting a bootloop then i'd recommend a re-install or if u've installed a custom rom then do the same..but if it still doesn't work then try flashing a different rom...
A word of advice..
1. CM , AOSP and AOKP roms are under continuous process of beta testing..So dont judge I'm on aokp 4.1.2 for now and wifi is still buggy but i can manage(i mean android 4.4 is out now)
2. Try roms based on stock but are completely stripped and are still customizable..eg. JJ Hybrid 3.3 rom. Ultimate HD is very good but apparently a lil too much for our neo v Happy Flashing!:good:
