Automatic switch Wi-Fi - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My old Samsung I9100 SII switched automatically to the Wi-Fi network that was closest, when I moved around the house, But it does not Galays S3. Want to help resolve my problem.

Yes - One master and two accespoint

Give them all same SSID and password.
Swyped on my Galaxy S III

There can I see and change the SSiD adresse - all my Wi-Fi's have allready the same possword

Best WIFI
Search for "Best WIFI" in Google Play. I've been using it since I got my S3 and it's worked wonderfully and I have noticed no significant battery drain.

If doing a multi router configuration like that you might want to consider WDS if all routers you have support it. That would be the most seamless method....

I do not know what WDS is and how I change it. Would like to have a brief description.

essentially all the access points/routers would be named the same, be on same channel, so it should "roam" better around the house....it isn't too hard to set up, I could likely help you with that if you wanted.
you can find a more detailed description of it here.
not all devices support this though...but that is easy enough to determine....

Automatic wifi switching based on signal strength, possible?

Im posting this for a friend, he currently has 3 routers around his house to cover all possible dead spots and he is looking for a way or an app that can automatically transfer connections from different AP's based on the signal strength, similar to what iOS devices do natively.
3 routers? How big is that house mate? I can connect mine with one throughout the house
Poor me
I have a relatively small house but I need 2 routers to have a connection down stairs in my room, but this is really off topic already.
Anyone, no native function or app for this on the S2 or andriod in general ?
Tasker is a good app to try. It can be configured to work.

Yes please, it looks like a hugely capable tool, but I only want it to do the one thing, switch between APs.

IP Address problem

I can't get the tab passed obtaining ip address status on my gf's wireless dsl. It works at my house but not here. I put in the password correctly but it won't connect. I also cleared the dhcp list using root explorer and no go. Any suggestions?

You sure Tab can use WEP? Why does she use WEP, it is totally outdated and unsecure.
It's connected before now it doesn't. They're technologically retarded so the encryption method they don't care about

Dug out an old spare router to check, the Tab supports WEP.

<offtopic>I feel duty bound to suggest that you upgrade it for them as much as possible. They might not have the understanding but it only takes one curious 13-year old wanna-be hacker to break WEP in ~1 minute and they'd be potentially liable for all the dodgy porn/bomb-making lessons/copyrighted material that the aggressor downloaded.</offtopic>

It's not an exact solution, but you can use "Wi-Fi Kill" app to block other devices in network. So, your relative speed will be higher.
Google has kicked out this app from Play Store, but you can find its APK on Internet. Just, search..
What will wifi kill do exactly? ?

WiFi Kill spoofs ARP replies to trick other devices on the network into thinking your Android device is the router. Then, it drops all their network packets.
Will that crash the server tho? In other words.. will it get me in the ****

Which type of server you are talking about?
Original Wi-Fi router (with default gateway) and your device will work fine. So, servers on these two devices will work fine.
So mine and the router will be fine. Just all the other wireless connections will go down? Or does this include wired? Im guessin not.. but i aint riskin all the pcs goin down

As your device can't send ARP replies to wired clients without magic, wired clients will not be affected. Only wireless clients will be victims.
Thanks mate nice info..
Question is... is it really worth it lol

It depends on you.
Well, I have used it many times in public Wi-Fi. Here's the Internet speed result: 1Mbps to 25+ Mbps (could be more, but device had limitation)!

Wifi issue

Ok so I've been running an unsecured network at home cause I didn't know how to set up a password. If well today I talked that issue and my network is now secured with a password. So when I try to connect my note to my network it asks me for my password, which I enter without fail because it seems to accept it, however I'm not connecting to the Wifi network. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Restart the router and the phone then try to connect again.

+1.
Also try forgetting the home network on the phone then reconnecting.

After you type in the password click on the network name again and click connect I have to do that sometimes for it to work

Tried all suggestions but still no joy. I know I'm entering the key right because it worked on my laptop.
Any other ideas?

Ok I've tried everything, but I can't get my note to recognize the wifi. Plus my laptop is extrememly slow now that it is secured. I'm contemplating uinsecuring it to solve all my problems.

Network will be a bit faster unsecured, but not recommended of course
But now it won't recognize? Or won't connect?
You try all the different types of security?
Try to use a channel lower than 11.
You're on a developers forum and you don't know how to set-up a wifi password on a router. Wow!

There should be some sort of test you have to pass to get an account here.

Yeah, a reading comprehension test would be excellent.
Read the OP before you jump in on a negative comment.
Is this an example of second rate. . .

If you have something helpful to add, add it. Otherwise, move on.
This happens on my note from time to time. Disabling then re-enabling wifi on the note usually fixes it.

I remember having to delete the wifi list because tapping 'forget network' wasn't doing that.
I also recall fiddling with a wifi supplicant file. Does anyone know what I'm referring to?

I agree, and you sir would fail miserably at being a decent human being. Piss off.
So anyways, did you try a lower channel? Is it an 'n' router?
It Is an m router and I did try lowering the channel, still no luck.

Try setting upnp inside router settings. Shot in the dark, but might work. What type of p/w protection are you using? Are you having issues with anything else connecting wirelessly?
Well, I use my network with open security. But I allow devices to connect if their MAC address is in the list.

You can't if it's a wpa2 security.
Only if it's wpa security with the stock passwords than you can use Wifi Unlocker from the play store.
Verzonden door mijn GT-I9300 met xda premium
Well lets not say "hack" because I'm pretty sure that even if you get backtrack on you phone, your phone isn't capable of packet injection. There is one app named WiFi Unlocker which if he has a Thompson router, you'll be able to get in. The app uses some information from the router and basically uses the default key. I tried it and it works. The only thing is, is that you wont find that many Thompson routers because they arent very popular.
If it's your college wifi, you'd think you'd have authorization to use it.
