[Q] Stuck on firmware 1600.2483.8107.11501 - Nokia Lumia 800

As the title suggests, I'm stuck on firmware version 1600.2483.8107.11501. I bought the device from Amazon UK a couple of days ago because they were selling them at £200 It is a UK country variant, product code 059L7C2.
Zune says no updates available, but there have been at least 3 firmware updates since the one I am stuck on. I've tried the disconnect trick, still no updates available. I've tried both Zune and WP Connector for Mac, still nothing.
I've contacted Nokia support, but I was wondering if anyone had a similar issue and any suggestions how to resolve it?
- Will

I had the same problem mate....just follow one of the other threads of how to use the "CAB sender installer" and install the new CABS(updates) yourself.
Its really easy to do, good luck.

So I downloaded Nokia Care Suite and flashed the latest 059L7C2 ROM. Strangely enough, before I flashed that, NCS couldn't read the product ID from my device, so I guess that is why I could have been having issues getting updates.
Now on 1600.2487.8107.12070. I guess it's just a matter of waiting for the update now.

Ok good job.
That is one way, but by using the NCS you lose all of your data etc...if you use the WP7 Update CAB sender you keep all your data.
Also on the forums someone has posted the latest updates as CAB files so you don't really need to wait for the update through Zune you can do it yourself now.

Yeah, new phone though, so no data on it, so I figured reflashing it isn't a biggie.
I'm doing the first of those cabs now, but I'd rather update via Zune tbh.

Yeah I totally understand.
The weird thing was when I went down this route, after each installed CAB I tried to see if Zune offered the next update...and after the second CAB the third OEM update was instantly offered to me, so I took the Zune upgrade route for the last part.

Do your phones have the DLOAD bootloader or Qualcomm?
My phone is stuck on an old version but has the QC bootloader. I've been trying forever to get NCS to update my phone but I don't believe I can use NCS cause it's the QC. I just wanna confirm my suspicion.

I have the unlocked bootloader Qualcomm, but this will only help you if you want to flash a custom ROM? I'm a Noob so I could be talking crap

No idea, bootloader version is 7.41.0.0 if that helps. The problem was beforehand that it didn't seem to want to give NCS any details about the device, after using recovery mode to flash the 1600.2487.8107.12070 ROM, the device is recognised correctly in NCS.
Anyway, I'm now on 1750.0805.8773.12220.
After resetting to 1600.2487.8107.12070 via NCS, I installed the 8112 and 8773 cabs from here, and after those 2 updates had installed Zune offered me the Nokia update which updated the firmware to 1750.0805.8773.12220.
So, I'm all sorted and hopefully this will help anyone stuck on a firmware version.

Good news, just as I said then
If you ever wanted to know how to tell if your bootloader is unlocked or not, just power off the phone, power on holding volume up as well until the haptic feedback...then plug in the USB cable to your PC and the disk should come up as a USB Mass Storage Device, if it doesn't then its a locked bootloader.

I'm going to try the cab updater tonight. NCS doesn't like my phone and refuses to redetect it when I put it in recovery mode (vol up + power).

Do You have a code on Your lockscreen?

Tried to install all files and then just one at a time and error comes back that there are no applicable packages..
I think the update route is not an option anymore. You should try to flash the firmware with Nokia Care Suite
So.. I downloaded and installed NCS and got files from Navifirm.
However, when I go to Recovery, the Product Support tool doesn't see the data packages - tried rescan, and I have preferences to search in the location where the data is.
Am I missing a step? I have them downloaded, but is there an installation for the data package I'm missing?
Thanks for any help!

Did you try deploying the missing language cabs using cabsender?

Copythe folder holding the files you got from Navifirm to C:\ProgramData\Nokia\Packages\Products and rename the folder to the model number (as in 'RM-801' for the EU Lumia 800)
Then in NCP do File>open product and select the correct product
Sending the language cabs fixed this for me. No need to reflash or lose any data.
Goodbye for Now, Lumia..
Thank you all for the very helpful and instructive comments.
I did in fact attempt to use cabsender to send all language files to the Lumia; failed. Then tried one at a time; also failed. That's turned out to be the death nell (sp?)
I finally got the hang of NCS, got the correct files to appear, and also did the manual driver installations for x64. NCS could read my phone, but when I did the actual recovery, no matter what the phone just would not go into recovery. Would always power up and stick me either on starting or on checking mode. I even tried different button hold combos and then just not pressing anything - to no avail.
So it left me with a phone that could take and receive phone calls, but no access to ANYTHING requiring alpha input - including SMS and email.
Looking back, I think I may have also had a hardware issue. I could never get bluetooth to keep a connection properly - and many other RM-801 owners told me theirs worked fine; mine was not under warranty so was stuck. I don't know if that had anything to do with the phone rejecting the language files for 8112 and 8773, or with it not responding to any flash attempts - but wouldn't be surprised.
Today, I am thanking the Gods that I never got around to selling my HD7. I recommissioned it and got the new SIM for it and it's up and running nicely now. I figure if anyone dumps a Lumia *900 for less than $100, I'll go for it, but otherwise am intending to use this until I get my hands on a WP8 near the end of the year.
I found to my surprise that using the larger screen on the HD7 though less pretty was really refreshing. I love the form factor of the Lumia 800, but I think the Metro UI really deserves a bigger screen.
Anyway, congrats to all who had success and again many thanks to those who tried to help me yesterday and last night. Am sure we'll connect again when we have our Lumia Liquid Metal PureView WP8's!
Cheers,

Try doing a simple refurbish instead of recovery. It doesn't require any buton acrobatics, just plug the phone in after starting NCS. The only trick in this case involves renaming the ROM files to match your phones Product Code, If you choose to flash with different variant.

Interesting; I'll give it a try!
I did remember that cabsender does a restore, but that didn't work.
I thought of the refurbish, but the software wouldn't appear. I will try your method after work tonight. Might be the trick.
Still suspicious of my phone's hardware, but man, I can live with it until WP8..

Don't even bother with cabsender recovery - it uses Zune and Zune backups are uttterly useless.
NCS recovery means flashing a dead phone (or playing dead to force a different variant ROM) - that's where you need VolUp while powering on.
NCS refurbish means flashing a working phone - you plug it in normally and ROM file names must match your product code.

Hey Skrypek, you just SAVED me!! The file renaming followed by refurbish did the trick!
Also used your method to update to a UK Variant of Tango for the RM-801 - and went SMOOTHLY with no downloading and screwing around with language packs or cab files. Everything is running perfectly and can access all alpha functions SMS MMS, Email, Wifi, About Phone - i.e. every single thing that had been malfunctioning before.
I am now a strong fan of Navifirm + Nokia Care Suite - VERY easy to work with.
Now I just have to visit the T-Mobile folks and get a new microsim card!
(edit, feeling adventurous again, I cut my SIM card - SUCCESS - so now don't have to shell out another $20 to T-Mobile )
Many thanks!
I really thought I had a brick and had posted an ebay auction for parts; glad I was able to snag the listing back!
Cheers,
Skrypek..
Did I tell you you're amazing?
Thanks again!!!!
Nice to have my Lumia back!!!

Please help me

Hi,
First of all thank you for taking time to read this.
I have a nokia lumia 800 which has never been updated my info shows as follows;
H3G UK SW Variant ID235 v3
1600.2483.8106.11500
059L8M3
RM801
I have a locked bootloader and i literally have tried everything to update/flash my phone. It fails everytime. Nokia suite gives a error code: cannot change mode and CAB sender just says an unexpected error has occured.
I have tried about 15 different firmwares, i have tried the refurbish option but it asks me to turn my phone off and hold the power button ect, which does not work.
I am stuck with this phone for at least another year and i at least want it to be as good as it can be. I check the forums ever single day for new updates and methods but i am slowly losing hope.
I am pulling my hair out, please can some one help me. Please.

Yes, sorry i should have mentioned ive tried everything..
Zune give an error, but recently its told me that my phone is up to date which is quite strange
You might try the trick with pulling the cord, it will make Zune update the phone...
Factory reset the phone then plug it into Zune

what do you mean?
Connect your Windows Phone to a PC and launch the Zune software
Click on Phone > Settings > Update. Allow the software to tell you whether an update is available. If so, skip this guide. If not continue to the next step.
Time to force the update. Click another button (any of the options above or below the word Update). Then click the Update button again and try to count how much time does it take to find out that the phone is up to date. When you can predict when zune will stop checking for an update and tell you that it's up to date, press look for an update again and turn the internet off on PC in a second before it was supposed to finish checking for an update. It takes some skills and time, but I updated my phone in 5 attempts, so it is not supposed to be very difficult. If everything is OK Zune should display a notification that an update is available. Now reconnect to the internet and continue with the update process through the Zune software.

Update to Amber Right Now - Easy Method

Hi Guys
I use a Lumia 920 locked on EE Uk Network and was very impatient that we have still not received the Amber Update and after much searching I am finally on Amber and loving it.
So Here is How you do it :-
1 ] Download NOKIA SOFTWARE UPDATeR FOR RETAIL
2] Install it on your PC > It will also automatically Install any drivers or additional software required
3] Once Installed Follow Instructions to Connect your Phone through Cable to PC
4] It will Show you the update available for your Phone
5] Follow Instructions to Download and install the software update.
6] I normally do another full hard reset after updates just in case (optional)
ENJOY!!!
FAQ
1] DOES THIS WIPE YOUR PHONE?
This way of updating will WIPE everything of your phone so a backup of your stuff is a must unless you are happy to start from scratch like me, It wont effect your purchase as they are linked to your MS Account, game saves and other stuff will be effected.
2] IS THE SOFTWARE TRUSTWORTHY?
The software is generally for use by People at Nokia Care Centres to update phones, as for the validity of the software with regards to viruses and stuff I found the link on google and you are welcome to search for the same if you can find another download link by googling ( Nokia software updater for retail 3.08)
3] WHAT IF THINGS GO WRONG?
I can't help you in anyway as I am just posting the resources, but it is a very straight forward process that even a 5 year old could do it.
ENJOY!! -
Does not work with ATT phones in the US. It finds the version of software that was already sent OTA six months ago. It is not Amber. It also gets and internal error after it downloads said software due to it being the same as already on the phone. 1314.0001 is what this package finds, and it is what was released OTA several months ago and is what is on my phone now.

Hi Thanks for the feedback, so maybe there is no update available for your device on the nokia servers then, I know it works as I have the amber update right now as enjoying every bit of it and its still not released on the UK networks except for vodafone.
Maybe you can keep trying every alternate days, and lets us know
thank you.
If there is no firmware on NCS servers you can not use NSU anyway.

Many thanks, been waiting for what feels like an eternity for my Three Lumia 920 to get the update - Nokia site still says it is coming soon for Three UK. I downloaded the software, plugged my phone in and it said the update is available. Downloading right now :good:
Thank you worked like a charm took me 5 minutes for everything
Stuck with 18 applications that won't download
Lumia 820 on Orange UK (never again! Could any company be worse.)
Took rather longer than 5 mins as I am out in the sticks and it's 1.22Gb to download.
I am now looking at "18 downloads" in the Store, each one of which says "Downloading application Attention required. Tap here."
I tap, and get "We can't connect to the Store at the moment. Check your data connection or try later". Hit retry ... and go round in a circle.
Or I get "Downloading application. There has been a problem completing your request. Try again later. Error code 8000ffff"
The connection should be OK as I can see bbc.co.uk, for instance.
Perhaps I'll try in the middle of the night.
cant update mine, is a 920 in MX telcel. it just download the update but at last time its says "error writing firmware on device" and the phone reboots. What can I do?
Does amber work with my USA ATT phone
I have an AT&T Nokia Lumia 920 thats unlocked to a different carrier right now. Can I follow your directions to install Amber onto it right now?
Thanks for the help guys appreciate it.
I got one problem as well. Phone was bought from ee (but unlocked using the code). However then i try to install nokia pro camera it says its not available for your device. can it be that ee hasn't released amber update yet?

There is apparently a problem with the Procam and it seems to have disappeared from the store at the moment as well, I believe Nokia has pulled it for some reason.

OK, you've got a demo version and ii's not recognized with ncs, can you tell me what happens when you power off the phone and then power on your device with the power on button and the volume up button pressed on the same time, if I'm correct you will feel a short buzz, then connect it to your pc and if you got a message to format your drive always press "NO" .
If nothing happens also let me know.
Greetz,
Yep, the phone made a short buzz when i held the power and volume up button, but did nothing else.
then i connected it to my computer via USB and it buzzed again but for longer. nothing happened on my PC. Then it buzzed again and turned on by itself, back into demo mode.

[Q] How to restore real brick?(doesn't respond to hard resets etc)

Hi all,
I've got a Lumia 920 Cyan (RM-820) and it died during update. I had those problems before and I am familiar with Nokia Care suite and all hard reset procedures, but this time it won't respond to anything. Hard reset button combination doesn't make it vibrate and turn on. Holding volume down when sticking charger in doesn't work either. Charging screen won't appear. When connected via USB all my PCs fail to recognize this device( taking into account that other lumia 920 i have is recognized so drivers are installed correctly). Anyone has any ideas? Any forced flashing sw available?

I've got one idea that might work... I thought that battery might not charge properly and phone could get stuck in discharged state. I'll try swapping a battery with a charged one and see if anything happens. It's all based on assumption that charging might not be working during update. If assumption is wrong it won't help i guess

Have you tried using Navifirm and download compatible firmware for your 920 within your region and flash it using Nokia Care Suite? I wish I could post links but I am not able to yet.. If you have questions please PM me and Ill send you the link(s).
I've fixed a number of 920's by reflashing the OS.

Use Data Package Manager for DL the ROM, it is much faster.
Same Problem
I have the same problem with my Lumia 920 - RM 821.
Already tried all the tools of Nokia, but without results.
My Lumia has stopped completely and I can not fix it.
Same problem
Frustrated! Every time i find someone with the same problem the forum stops with no solution available. My Lumia 925 is not recognized by NCS, Phoenix or PC. Reset dos not work.
Guys, the last two posters, I have the same issue, and sad to break it to you, I think we have a hardware failure. Battery (my bet on this), display (I doubt) or something else died. If the battery swapping doesn't work, I am pretty sure something else is gone, could be anything. Something as simple as the charging pin too.
Does anyone still have the software Navifirm and Nokia care suite they could share? My 920 is stuck in a reboot loop, I've tried the hard reset (hold volume down and power, wait for vibrate, release power, should see exclamation mark), but it just loops between off (3sec) and the NOKIA word (3sec) while I hold vol down . Thanks.
No matter, followed the instructions at https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2515453 which has got it working.
