Hi guys
i picked up a lumia 800 from work that was ex display. it has the demo content on it, and i can't seem to remove it. I even gave it to my Nokia rep and they cant remove it either.
I tried following the instructions on this site, but Navifirm doesnt work anymore and the phone isnt being detected by nokia care suite.
does anyone have the required files/programs saved somewhere and can help me out?
It's a RM-801 - Lumia 800 - Australia.
Thanks guys,
Chris

Hi Chris, you can try Nokia Software Updater for Retail, just read THIS
Can't found a working download link so I have to search in my backups if you can't find one.

Hi thanks for the tip.
I followed the instructions as per the program, and it works for the most part. when the phone reboots from the flashing of the new firmware, everything is fine... but then it says "preparing" and starts loading demo content on the phone again.. I think i need to update the ROM not just the firmware..
Is there a way to do that?

OK, you've got a demo version and ii's not recognized with ncs, can you tell me what happens when you power off the phone and then power on your device with the power on button and the volume up button pressed on the same time, if I'm correct you will feel a short buzz, then connect it to your pc and if you got a message to format your drive always press "NO" .
If nothing happens also let me know.
Greetz,
Yep, the phone made a short buzz when i held the power and volume up button, but did nothing else.
then i connected it to my computer via USB and it buzzed again but for longer. nothing happened on my PC. Then it buzzed again and turned on by itself, back into demo mode.

yes i tried that method too.. but no luck =(
i can't click programming button thats the problem... it's kinda deactivated I think
Are you opening product code RM-801 or have you moved the firmware to a different folder? Not much can be done from the RM-801 folder.
I'm just having problems installing Nokia Care Suite. It gets so far and I get a 1220 error.
Any ideas?

It's some odd registry error, right? I think you just click through it. You'll have to navigate to the program folder to open the launcher. IIRC, that's what I had to do.

Do You ha e a screenlock code on the device. I had to remove my Outlook account, which requires a screenlock code, remove the code and then I was good to go.

This. In order for the Programming menu to be available, you need to select "Open Product" from the File menu and choose the correct product code (RM-819, RM-801, etc.).
My problem is I can never get passed the "Checking Mode" or "Starting" stage. I keep pressing the volume up button + insert USB cable until I feel a short vibration. After that, Windows will recognise my device as DLOAD and after a short while, the device restarts. Nokia Case Suite will then prompt me to unplug the USB cable, shutdown the device and do the volume up + insert USB cable routine again. Rinse and repeat. What did I do wrong? I am using Windows 7 64-bit.
EDIT: I solved my problems by going to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Nokia\Nokia Care Suite\Drivers\ directory and manually installing all the x64 drivers.
Im also having a few problems with NCS... i just figured I would piggy back off this thread rather than start a whole new one....
When installing I get a error that says.... "ERROR 1904.Module C:\Program Files (x86)\CommonFiles\nokia\Service Layer \C\Service Modules\ServiceModule_00003\msml4.dll failed to register" I hit ignore but now when i connect my phone to my PC... it isnt being recognized as DLOAD or QC or anything. I am at a loss... i went through and installed the drivers that were in the Nokia folder manually, except one it wouldnt install for some reason. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I am having the same problem on my lumia 920. I didn't find a solution yet. This thread is the only thing I found so far.
Edit: I tried ncs on x64 w7 and x86 w8

I had same stupid problem. You have to change your o.s.country and region from control panel. Try UK or USA. Both will work..
Hope this will help.
So installed everything including Nokia update..
Settings About, Keyboard and Wifi won't open.
Did a hard reset and still no joy..

You need to install ALL the language cab files.

Tried to install all files and then just one at a time and error comes back that there are no applicable packages..
I think the update route is not an option anymore. You should try to flash the firmware with Nokia Care Suite
So.. I downloaded and installed NCS and got files from Navifirm.
However, when I go to Recovery, the Product Support tool doesn't see the data packages - tried rescan, and I have preferences to search in the location where the data is.
Am I missing a step? I have them downloaded, but is there an installation for the data package I'm missing?
Thanks for any help!

Copythe folder holding the files you got from Navifirm to C:\ProgramData\Nokia\Packages\Products and rename the folder to the model number (as in 'RM-801' for the EU Lumia 800)
Then in NCP do File>open product and select the correct product
Sending the language cabs fixed this for me. No need to reflash or lose any data.
Goodbye for Now, Lumia..
Thank you all for the very helpful and instructive comments.
I did in fact attempt to use cabsender to send all language files to the Lumia; failed. Then tried one at a time; also failed. That's turned out to be the death nell (sp?)
I finally got the hang of NCS, got the correct files to appear, and also did the manual driver installations for x64. NCS could read my phone, but when I did the actual recovery, no matter what the phone just would not go into recovery. Would always power up and stick me either on starting or on checking mode. I even tried different button hold combos and then just not pressing anything - to no avail.
So it left me with a phone that could take and receive phone calls, but no access to ANYTHING requiring alpha input - including SMS and email.
Looking back, I think I may have also had a hardware issue. I could never get bluetooth to keep a connection properly - and many other RM-801 owners told me theirs worked fine; mine was not under warranty so was stuck. I don't know if that had anything to do with the phone rejecting the language files for 8112 and 8773, or with it not responding to any flash attempts - but wouldn't be surprised.
Today, I am thanking the Gods that I never got around to selling my HD7. I recommissioned it and got the new SIM for it and it's up and running nicely now. I figure if anyone dumps a Lumia *900 for less than $100, I'll go for it, but otherwise am intending to use this until I get my hands on a WP8 near the end of the year.
I found to my surprise that using the larger screen on the HD7 though less pretty was really refreshing. I love the form factor of the Lumia 800, but I think the Metro UI really deserves a bigger screen.
Anyway, congrats to all who had success and again many thanks to those who tried to help me yesterday and last night. Am sure we'll connect again when we have our Lumia Liquid Metal PureView WP8's!
Cheers,

Try doing a simple refurbish instead of recovery. It doesn't require any buton acrobatics, just plug the phone in after starting NCS. The only trick in this case involves renaming the ROM files to match your phones Product Code, If you choose to flash with different variant.

Interesting; I'll give it a try!
I did remember that cabsender does a restore, but that didn't work.
I thought of the refurbish, but the software wouldn't appear. I will try your method after work tonight. Might be the trick.
Still suspicious of my phone's hardware, but man, I can live with it until WP8..

Don't even bother with cabsender recovery - it uses Zune and Zune backups are uttterly useless.
NCS recovery means flashing a dead phone (or playing dead to force a different variant ROM) - that's where you need VolUp while powering on.
NCS refurbish means flashing a working phone - you plug it in normally and ROM file names must match your product code.

Hey Skrypek, you just SAVED me!! The file renaming followed by refurbish did the trick!
Also used your method to update to a UK Variant of Tango for the RM-801 - and went SMOOTHLY with no downloading and screwing around with language packs or cab files. Everything is running perfectly and can access all alpha functions SMS MMS, Email, Wifi, About Phone - i.e. every single thing that had been malfunctioning before.
I am now a strong fan of Navifirm + Nokia Care Suite - VERY easy to work with.
Now I just have to visit the T-Mobile folks and get a new microsim card!
(edit, feeling adventurous again, I cut my SIM card - SUCCESS - so now don't have to shell out another $20 to T-Mobile )
Many thanks!
I really thought I had a brick and had posted an ebay auction for parts; glad I was able to snag the listing back!
Cheers,
Skrypek..
Did I tell you you're amazing?
Thanks again!!!!
Nice to have my Lumia back!!!
I wanted to post in the development section, but it requires 10 posts or more.Thing is, I flashed it and all, NSS reported OS was written succesfully, but it won't boot past the Nokia screen.I tried hard resetting but it doesn't vibrate, it shows up as a NAND flash device in NSS,windows also picks it up so I guess it's alive.Thing is, how do I reflash it to its Original FW and Hard Reset it, it's a T-Mobile UK branded one.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1587650
I used that Lumia 800 FullUnlock ROM.
Help is greatly appreciated, as this isn't my phone and I would have to pay 400 euros for a new one if this doesn't work.
try this:
- disconnect the phone from pc
- wait a minute or more
- keep pressing power button ~10 sec, then release it
- if it still doesn't powering, keep pressing vol up button, release it, then keep pressing power button.
mine is a tmobile uk, too. after the phone goes to OSBL mode, the only way to start phone normally, is through the method i described.
good luck!
I did that, still nothing, stuck on Nokia logo. The partitions are all shown, in NSS pro there are 1-8 partitions, in ubuntu there is sdc1-9.On which partition is the OS and on which is the bootloader?

pretty going off topic even on my own topic, but how do i boot the lumia into disk mode(mass storage) so i can send files via USB?Zune only allows videos/music/pics.
So .short story.i have a nokia lumia 800 rm 801,and dosn't boot anymore.i wen't to a repair shop and the guy over there said that the bootloader needs to be reinstalled because it's bricked, but he can't do it)
this is what's i've tried: leaving for few hours to charger/usb cable, didn't worked.
if i connect it to pc for few seconds i see in control panel, nokia dload and it discconect it.
i can start recovery mode( that windows phone with the computer cable thing on my phone if i connect the phone to charger or usb and press camera volume up and power) but i can't start recovery mode without data cable/charger.
when i connect the phone to charger it vibrate(nothing on the screen shows)if i press the power button for half a second i see the t-mobile logo.and keeps apearing and vibrating random times i guess i didn't counted exactly.(restart loop or something)
when i connect the phone to usb it vibrates long, and keep connecting to pc and discconecting.
when it's not connected to charger or usb, don't give any sparkle of life(no vibrating, powering on,nothing)
any help please?if anyone would be that kind to help me ,or give me enough advices to fix it by myself...

Ok, you also contacted me by pm and I'm trying to help you, but I don't have a Lumia 800 so I don't know all the difference between a Lumia 710 and a Lumia 800.
So in short, before I unlocked my phone I had a similar issue then which you are dealing now, what I did is disconnect the phone from the pc and pressed the camerabutton and keep it pressed, on the same time I pressed the on/off button once but keep holding the camerabutton, the phone shows the recovery mode, so I connected the phone with zune and reinstalled my backup, that's it.
(It's not neccesary to dis- and reconnect, but I only tell you the way I did it.)
If that doesn't work I think you must read this thread from bypx,

Succesz,
and if i don't have the backup? cant i just use someone else's backup?(for nokia lumia 800 rm-801 ofcourse)
on that guide i don't have dead usb flasing...
and without dead phone usb flasing i get this error:
ERROR: OSBL reported an error! Code: 0x30022
and in linux if i connect it in recovery mode,it gives me this error:
unable to mount windows mobile error initializing camera: -105 Unknown model
and discconects automaticly from recovery mode, entering automaticly in that reboot loop.
i think that the bootloader it's faulty.
when i connecting the phone to zune i get this error: C101002E
And i don't have a backup for restoring...
Ok, I do some research and contact you asap

If you think that you can do it by yourself, search the tutorial for unlock the phone with the ATF box. If not, do like me: go in a service center for phones, pay 13 euro, and in 30 minutes you go home with the phone done ok without any complications. I changed in service my bootloader from dload to qualcomm.

Hi all,
I've got a Lumia 920 Cyan (RM-820) and it died during update. I had those problems before and I am familiar with Nokia Care suite and all hard reset procedures, but this time it won't respond to anything. I've got one idea that might work... I thought that battery might not charge properly and phone could get stuck in discharged state. I'll try swapping a battery with a charged one and see if anything happens. It's all based on assumption that charging might not be working during update. If assumption is wrong it won't help i guess

Same Problem
I have the same problem with my Lumia 920 - RM 821.
Already tried all the tools of Nokia, but without results.
My Lumia has stopped completely and I can not fix it.
Same problem
Frustrated! Every time i find someone with the same problem the forum stops with no solution available. My Lumia 925 is not recognized by NCS, Phoenix or PC. Reset dos not work.
Guys, the last two posters, I have the same issue, and sad to break it to you, I think we have a hardware failure. Battery (my bet on this), display (I doubt) or something else died. If the battery swapping doesn't work, I am pretty sure something else is gone, could be anything. Something as simple as the charging pin too.
Does anyone still have the software Navifirm and Nokia care suite they could share? My 920 is stuck in a reboot loop, I've tried the hard reset (hold volume down and power, wait for vibrate, release power, should see exclamation mark), but it just loops between off (3sec) and the NOKIA word (3sec) while I hold vol down . Thanks.
No matter, followed the instructions at https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2515453 which has got it working.
