Hi,
I installed cwm 1.5 recovery, SuperSU and ninphatemin3 1.1.0 to my stock XXLE8 stock rom.
Now I cannot seem to apply the OTA update. Can somebody help guide me to successfully update the OTA?
Thanks

Hi,
I had the same issue. You need to install Samsung Kies on a PC and install the firmware update with Kies. Be aware that your device is not rooted anymore after that procedure.
So you have to root it again. But not a big task though.
Cheers

Of course you cant. Root = no ota or official support.

As multiple posts say root = no OTA .
But if you actually read the latest CF root instructions .
Recovery - ClockWorkMod (CWM)
A custom CWM 5.5 build is included in CF-Root, taken from this thread. This provides for the ability to install custom ROMs, and do nandroid (full device) backups and restores. Now also support OTA updates, but an OTA update itself will probably remove CWM, so you need re-flash CF-Root after OTA.
But why piss about with root then back to official update and then root again .
Join XDA and flash stock rom when you want .
Plus with 84 posts you should be able to read the fffff rules

Hi everyone
I am gonna buy a galaxy s3 this week and i want to know some things about rooting the device
I have worked with odin and i know how it works
And i used odin once to root my friends galaxy s.(using chainfire)
But for galaxy s,chaonfire created different pda files based on the region
But for this phone i saw that there is only one pda file (for all regions)
So here is my question:
Is this version of cf-root (the one for galaxys 3 i men)
Region independent? I mean won't i loose any languages?
And by the way, after rooting,is it possible to update the phone using kies or using ota updates?
Thanks in advance
Best regards
Ota no updates. Kies possible updates.Root information all in Development section.

Actually, Chainfire says in the first few posts of his CF root thread that it does support OTA (but will need to re flash CF root afterwards)

Thanks for your answer
But you didnt answer my first question
Is this version of cf root region free?
The S3 CF-root is for any firmware provided your phone is either GT-I9300 or GT-I9300T
All the info in the first two posts anyway http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695238

Does installing a stock firmware remove root and the CWM recovery? ( I use CF-Root)
YES, it does....

You could flash a wanam stock.
It retains root

If you are doing this for warranty, remember to use triangle away to reset your flash counter

I'm a complete noob to devices outside of the HD2, but I found it extremely simple to root my Dad's phone with CF-Root. Now he's received an OTA Software Update and I'm not sure whether or not it's safe to do as in the changelog it says that OTA support was added in v6.3 whilst I used v6.0 as soon as I saw it in the Portal. I don't really mind if I lose root, but is it safe to update? Or should I flash a custom JB ROM instead?
Hello everybody,
my gt-i9100 will receive (short-run hopefully) the update to jelly bean but i have a couple of questions to avoid trouble.
At this time i have ics 4.0.3 official with root and modified recovery (not CWM). I have some root apps installed as "system app" like Android Lost, xposed framework and xposed tweakbox. I know the update will erase all my data (full update not value pack) but there will be problems installing this update with these root apps pre isntalled?
Thanks to all :cyclops:
It should cause any problems as the rom will erase all user apps and root.
What method are you planning to use to upgrade.
Kies or doing yourself through Odin.
As a precaution you could do a factoery reset before connecting to kies or flashing with odin. That way there will be no problems with stray aps.
i think i will use kies.
so i will not have issues having a custom recovery?
after upadte i must root again the device, right? if yes wich root use?

If I remember correctly, a few months ago there was a small update, it goes well but I had to root again the device, so how should I proceed to upgrade now?

b.t.w i need it to disable fast dormancy.

Anyone have tried?
I'm currently on 4.1.2 Rooted ChainFire
I just wonder if it is possible to flash the 4.2.2 stock ROM from sammobile with CWM?
Which means
i can keep the root while updated to 4.2.2
Because AFAIK, flash via ODIN will remove the root itself.
any respondse will be appreciated
Thanks in advance

all the ROMs on sammobile are Odin-flashable.
It doesn't matter what you flash it with - if the ROM is not rooted, then you'll lose root.
Get a pre-rooted 4.2.2 from the dev section

You have two options, flash with PC Odin, then root with CF Auto root, and flash CWM via rom manager.
Or you can flash with mobile Odin, don't flash recovery.img and check the everroot option this will keep root and custom recovery.
