Define safe because hacking your phone in general is already not a guaranteed deal. If you're cautious you can do it all without worry.
Are you rooted already?

No im not rooted do i need to hack my phone

Yes you have to be able to reach recovery to flash any sort of mod. Its real easy to do if you can run a computer. There are threads under general that tell you how go check them out

+2 to that and also run the speedy 7 script and supercharger 6 your phone will be considerably faster.

A word of advice - don't run V6, speedy and mash up at the same time. Those explosions people joke about actually start to happen.
I really liked mashup+Eclipse. Simple, smooth and solid.

Only issue I have with this is I could never get my wifi to work stable. Other then that CM7 is a great ROM.
You can also, do a 2.3.4 root, root keeper, upg to 2.3.5, and then flash X2 Mashup v7(2.3.5). That makes for a pretty good stock setup, and you can do the Battery Fix if you find your self having issues with the battery seemingly dieing earlier or whatever. I also recommend Holo Launcher.
GL, and let us know what you do.

if you want to keep root id suggest you wait on the update till its prerooted other wise you will lose root for good untill an exploit is found in gb
Yes, but sbf can still be done to root again.
I'll bet GingerBreak works on it. I've rooted a dozen of phones all different makes and models and versions with that handy all in one program.

This is false information. On the 23rd testers where contacted and told the test was not ready but we would be be notified when it was. So no need to worry about going back stock just yet.

Every android device could be rooted, practically if you know mac, or linux its just typing su (super user, and i believe it might be sudo (superuser do)) does that answer the question, if not then yes
No word about MP3 or video recording issues, either that or I just read too fast and missed it
I think the OP's question was, can he update, or will he receive an update notice if his phone is rooted? I would like to know this as well.
Also, I am confused or not reading a clear answer, will this version be rootable? I think it is 2.3.3...Gingerbread.
I like root on my X2 too much to update right now if there is no root.
Thanks in advance for any clear answers and explanations.
I am so excited I am going to start my sbf now. If they are posting it on their website they have to be really close with it.

I'm about to do the same!
Gingerbreak used to work for rooting Gingerbread but they fixed the exploit in the latest versions. So right now there isn't any way to root. Your best bet is to wait for a custom rom to come out with Gingerbread pre-rooted.

[SBF] Update to 4.5.1A-DTN-150-30 (GB 2.3.4) [Still locked]

This is an unofficial release of official, unmodified software. Version is 4.5.1A 150-30. I don't know what the changes are since I have no DX2. If some kind soul would post a pic of the version info from your phone I'm sure others would find that useful. Enjoy.
Also, if someone would like to host the file somewhere more permanent than multi-upload feel free to do so/let me know.

Blur is definitely updated, the launcher doesn't physically look different but the app drawer is MUCH smoother while scrolling now, complete with CRT Off built right in! Some of the status icons at the top (signal for example) seem a little different as well.
And I can confirm its 2.3.4
Can you still obtain root?

Could this be the latest soak? You rooted it yet?
It's definitely the latest soak, don't see how it couldn't be considering it's 2.3.4, and yes I have root! Pete's One Click root method worked perfectly, just updated SU now, and am currently removing bloat!

Thanks Cheesebeard for testing this. How is performance overall? IDK if you have used Eclipse at all, but I am using V.8b1 and getting the best performance thus far. Comparison between the two?

Do you have fastboot? if so all you have to do is use command prompt boot the phone to fast boot type the command fastboot oem unlock it will then ask you to retype it with the code it displays from there you type it again fastboot oem unlock "code" and it will say it is or isn't allowed at this time.
So, you can root using Pete's method? Where can I find this method? Links, anyone?

It's definitely not AS fast, but now that I've carved out the useless apps and whatnot (Blockbuster..etc) it seems to be running pretty well. I'd say it's more or less on par with 2.3.3, but after a days use I'll know for sure.

I'll have to try this out later, I'm on my way out to help a friend swap an engine out on his e30!
It wouldn't hurt to try since he doesn't have a dx2 its always good to have a second look. I will be trying it as soon as it is downloaded.

Moto Root has been patched

Hey guys, this is from P3Droid's Twitter, don't jump on any new moto updates!
P3Droid
Service Announcement: Don't take any moto updates the root path has been patched !!! You've been warned.
... Motorola wants businesses to buy their phones. I bought a phone with a freaking Tegra2 for freaking games and power. Not business. Besides, if they wanted to be business friendly they would have faster, better updates.
What The****
Moto there you go again.
I wish they would spend their time working on things that matter instead of this kind of crap. It'll eventually be root-able again but in the meantime, it's a pain in the ass.
From what I hear, Zergrush root method will root 2.3.5 devices.

I installed roots keeper after reading another post. How do you restore your root with the app if you loose it? The app does not really say how to regain your root.

I'd jump ship too, but I'm already 6 months into the contract. I'd rather not spend the full price on a device. I'm sure some good brand new open device will be available in a year from now. Maybe the next nexus?
There is already a huge bug with the nexus that ****s with the volume. Apparently the shielding on the inside is bad. My Rezound is a solid phone, and after comparing it with a Galaxy Nexus, the Rezound is absolutely the better phone. I don't give a **** about NFC.

Just did it myself, and it was extremely easy... I am a NOOB by the way... if I can do it, you can.
One suggestion... READ EVERY SINGLE WORD... then read it all again... and then 3 more times until you know it before you get to it... it will save you a lot of grief... trust me on this one...
I hate the new upgrade of Rogers Droid Razr ICS
I upgrade it finally but now I hate ICS.
After the upgrade my phone is to slow even if I reset it twice, flash player don't work at all, webtop act funny and totally different(I like the old one), Some of my apps don't work or crashes alot, its not easy to uninstall apps like 2.3.5&2.3.6, my wifi & GPS went on&off with out doing anything, my GPS apps doesn't work at all, ....
I like the new look of ICS but when its come to the function, its ****ed up!!!

You should back up your data, boot into stock recovery or if you're using custom recovery (cwm/bootmenu) and do a factory wipe. It's painful as you'll have to set up your phone again from scratch but it will fix most of your issues with apps crashing.

This can only be done with root. But honestly rooting takes 5 minutes and can be reversed so there is no reason not to. Universal deblur, compliments of lokifish.
