[Q] Conrom/CleanROM installation - HTC Rezound

Sorry for the noob question, but do these ROMs require the phone to be rooted?

Yes, all ROM's require the phone to be rooted.

yo
Start out with HTC Unlock. Lots of info on this site about it.
Then install a custom rom. It will already be Rooted,
After you've learned more, then you make it S-0ff.
Then you can go backward and forward in radio and other
options without worries.

Wrong. You don't need root. You need to unlock the boot loader. All instructions for that are in HTCDev.com

you need to Unlock your bootloader first in order to flash a Recovery like CWM or AmonRA which will then allow you to flash/install rooted roms.
Note: if you are on Gingerbread and are going to flash an ICS rom, PLEASE download the required kernel they provide for you to flash as well as the ICS rom. but kernels are flashed through the bootloader/hboot and not in recovery. unless your S-off. if your'e S-on, flash kernels in bootloader.

[Q] Rooting and Unlocking

I recently got my TF201 and soon as I got it home and turned on the WiFi, it updated. I put "Android System Info" app on it so I can see most of the system info, and I've ran the Unlock tool from Asus and have the Bootloader unlocked.
So my question now is, since when i boot the tablet, the top left says "Bootloader unlocked", can I flash CWM and then a rom, or do i still need to get root access and can I?

With your bootloader unlocked, you can install CWM without root access. See my response here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1585046). On the link in that thread, use the "non-rooted" method (fastboot) to flash CWM. Then you can install your ROM.
Confirmed, this is what I had to do.
Unlock, flash cwm (TOUCH VER. )
Then flashed Virtuolous newest rom.
It would be nice for a guide, or a tuturial for someone on a locked, and stock .21 rom for the prime

A guide/tutorial for a "locked & stock .21" is impossible since you need to unlock your bootloader.
And there are plenty of guides/tutorials on how to flash CWM onto your unlocked Prime.

It's quite possible...someone would just need to run a step by step including the unlock apk then move onto the steps of fastboot load of CWM. I agree that all the tutorials are there, but it requires a little hunting to piece them together.
This is where I went to unlock the Bootloader:
http://transformerprimeroot.com/tra...ow-to-unlock-bootloader-on-transformer-prime/
had to visit the page on the tablet cuz it wouldn't download otherwise
The question though, is once I install CWM and a ROM, do I have Root access, or can I only flash Pre-rooted roms?

Well yes, sort of. There are guides on how to unlock the Prime. Guides on how to flash CWM. And guides how to flash a custom ROM.
But the way the question was worded, it was how to flash to an unlocked, unrooted .21 Prime. Which you can't do. Flashing pre-supposes that you've unlocked it.

You have root access if the ROM you're installing is pre-rooted. If you install a ROM that is not pre-rooted you do not have root access. Whether or not you can root that ROM is another matter.
Why would you install a custom ROM not pre-rooted?
So call me blonde, dumb, or just flame me, but im sleep deprived on a daily basis so I'll ask a dumb question again.
Since I have my bootloader unlocked, all I need to do is flash the Touch CWM, and then a pre-rooted rom and I'm all set. No needing to gain straight up root access right here right now like i had to do with my EVO 4G just to be able to get into the Bootloader and put in the recovery

Correct. Just make sure to follow instructions to the letter. You'll need to flash the CWM using fastboot seeing as you do not have root.

Locked bootloader(verizon) ????

what does that mean. apparently there is a technique to root the phone and put CWR on it to flash things. but why is unlocking the bootloader so important.

Unlocked Bootloader allows one to flash custom Kernel/ROMs.
If you don't know what flashing means or don't care about anything custom, then you're all good to go...
Methods have been discovered so far to boot custom recoveries, root, and boot custom kernels. Still cant flash a new bootloader. What that basically means as far as I understand it, is that while we can run custom kernels, etc, the exploit can be quickly patched by an OTA, and anyone using said method will not be able to take OTA updates.
Its a workaround, not a polished solution (yet), but the devs are doing amazing work, and if you care about the cause then be sure to donate to them!

A little help please

Alright so i just got a new HTC Evo LTE coming from a Nitro HD on AT&T and i wanted to be able to flash custom roms and kernels, add mods and what not. this is my first HTC device and it seems that everything seems to be longer. Before all i had to do was unlock bootloader, root rom, and flash custom recovery and bam. New roms and kernels. I see here that i need to achieve S off? i know what is that but some report that they can flash roms with S on. (unfortunately im on 1.22.651.3). And also, what would be the sequence of getting things done? is it unlock bootloader, Root, custom rom, and then S off?
Thanks for the help clearing a couple of things up. (im not a newbie, but im not en expert)
Seeing as you have the newer firmware, you cannot get S-OFF. Don't worry though, as you can still get custom recoveries and ROMs flashed, there are just a few extra steps involved.
Basically the order would be:
HTCDev unlock.
Root.
Flash custom recovery.
Flash custom ROM.
Flash custom kernel with fastboot.
Profit!
I suggest reading through this guide first: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869377
That should answer most of your questions.

If you want the latest radio and kernel...
Take the latest OTA (2.13)
HTCDev unlock.
Root.
Flash custom recovery.
Flash custom ROM.
Flash custom kernel with fastboot.
Profit!
Once you get rooted you'll need to know how to flash kernels on Hboot 1.15+
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-lte-all-things-root/606748-how-install-kernels-h-boot-1-15-a.html
I would advise NOT taking the OTA as the poster above suggested

[Q] How to receive OTA updates if already rooted and s-off?

I need a little help. I unlocked the bootloader, rooted my phone, made TWRP my recovery, and got s-off. I did not flash a custom ROM. Now though, there is an update for my phone. I want to update it to the latest via OTA and remain on the stock ROM until 4.2.2 comes out. It is my understanding that I may need to run an RUU since I have TWRP as my recovery. This is where I'm a little confused.
1) Which RUU do I select? (I currently have the stock T-Mobile US build version 1.27.531.7 CL170484 release-keys if that helps)
2) Afterr I flash the RUU, do I need to perform s -on and re-lock the bootloader prior to performing the OTA update?
3) Am I missing any major steps?
4) Would it be better to just use a custom ROM like Android Revolution rather than trying to revert back to stock, etc?
Thanks for any and all input.

you need to flash the original recovery to install ota updates,, you will lose root access doing so
Or wait until some package it into a ZIP file and flash using TWRP.
Right?
Just wait a week.
All you need to do is put the stock Tmo recovery on your one. Then go update with ota and you will still be unlocked but you do lose root.
So it seems like there is disagreement to whether the stock ROM causes you to lose root or not. Either way, I would need to "lock" the bootloader again right?
Does the update add anything really worth having? I'm thinking that ARHD would be the best bet until an RUU comes out.

I'm sorry I was wrong you will lose root after you update ota. But you can do ota while being unlocked so no need to relock bootloader just flash the stock Tmo recovery and update.

[Q] Cyanogenmod 10 ROM welcome screen freezing

Hello,
I wanted to have newer android and have rooted and flashed HTC Amaze with Hasoons toolkit using TWRP recovery system. After flashing Cyanogenmod 10 ROM through ADB Sideload and flashing Cyanogenmod 10 ROM kernel (boot.img file which was included in the zipped folder) manually with Hasoons toolkit, the phone started to boot normally, load welcome screen, but after several seconds it freezes and then restarts. Can you please help what can be the cause of this problem and how can I repair? The phone is rooted and bootloader unlocked, but its still S-ON.
Before installing the Cyanogenmod I have tried to flash other ROMs, but on all of them after flashing kernel, the phone was freezing on booting mode and then just restarting continuously.
I hope there should be some way out and the phone is not bricked. If something I have backed up the data and will try to restore, but would prefer to repair Cyanogenmod ROM.
Thank you guys in advance for your help.

Did you follow the directions posted in the pinned threads at the top of the forums and update to ICS before unlocking and flashing these other ROMs?
I ask because if you say you're unlocked, but s-on, and you need to be on an ICS radio baseband prior to flashing any newer ROM. If you were already on ICS prior to these flash attempts then I suggest you try again with the latest version of 4ext instead of TWRP, and make sure to enable smart-flash. TWRP doesn't flash kernels properly on HTC handsets with s-on, while 4ext does when smart-flash is enabled. Of course all of this comes with the stipulation that you're doing this on a T-Mobile US version handset.
If you're on an Asian or non-branded international version it gets a bit more complicated because you must attain s-off before attempting to flash. This is because these handsets never got an ICS update. So there is no carrier image to flash to, and the only way to install the updated firmware with the ICS baseband is to attain s-off first then flash the T-Mobile US image.
Again, if you haven't I strongly suggest reading the pinned threads at the top of the different forums here as they contain all of the info you need to successfully flash your device to an updated ROM. Good luck.

Thank you for information. It is non-branded international version. It means I will have to try S-off and then flash the ROM with 4ext.

Please read the pinned threads first. You're going to have to relock your bootloader before proceeding, so save the binary unlock blob you got from HTC as you'll need it to unlock again. Place the stock image in the root of your external SD card and flash from hboot. Then after getting s-off and superCID then you can flash the T-Mobile ICS image. Again read the pinned threads thoroughly or you'll be posting about how to unbrick your handset. Good luck.

I had the same issues and had to turn off security with the joupunut bear program. Just to be safe with future flashing I've understood it works best. You should first s-off your phone and then go about flashing whichever firmware you want. Make sure you upgrade to the stock ics rom first as a pre requisite towards flashing any other rom and you'll be fine. Do a search on the stuff needed to gain s-off here in the forums. Report back if you need more assistance
