[Q] Anyone update the SU app? - Motorola Droid X2

Anyone update the chainsDD SU app? I read some reviews on the store that were saying stay away from this update.

I updated, so far no issues whatsoever.

I updated. No problems yet.

Any reports on if the ota root keeper works for us?

OTA Rootkeeper does work, just used it again when I had to SBF back to 2.3.4...as for SuperUser....still a little buggy but works....a few force closes when forgetting an app but it does work.

I've been using the SU & Busybox that came with Pete's Motorola Root Tools since Nov. '11 no problems.:fingers-crossed: I'm on the fence whether to update them or not. So far I have not needed to.:good:

Yea ive updated SU no problem but busy box scares me cuz of all the bad reviews post update.. if anyone gets the latest version please let me know if its legit. Thanks. Im on eclipse 2.2.1 by the way, if that makes a difference.

you guys are funny.
chainsdd su ap: works fine
updated binary few min ago.
np.
busy box: works fine I use the pro ap from stericson.
I used the chains ap on the dx no prob.
I tried the SU from chainfire and didnt see much diffeence in anything at all while on the DX.
JUst gonna stick withthe chainsdd one although the SU app does look more slick...I like blue! ;p
My one x was running the SU from chainfire. IS it smoother? hard to tell when you have two completely level devices.
I am rooted stock still on 2.3.3 fyi.
While on the subject is sbf'ing pretty much the same on dx2 as it is with dx/d2?

I updated it everything is going fine

question, why dont you wanna update?
I have another theory, UNINSTALL OR FREEZE BLUR UPDATER, IT MAY WORK OR IT MAY KILL YOUR PHONE, GOOD LUCK
the reason why i don't want to update it's because i don't have time right now to mess with a broken phone... my phone is my life and any downtime is pretty much not needed right now due to a raw update.

Is your phone still the stock version? Or have you rooted it and what not? I have to be honest, I was a bit worried when I saw everyone posting about problems they had with P3's pre-rooted and flashing the zip file. Honestly, I left my phone alone, other than uninstalling NFS, let's golf and other trial software VZW had pre-loaded on my phone. I didn't wanna mess with it, so I figured since I'm still stock, I'll just wait. The update pushed this morning, installed with zero problems, and works absolutely fantastically. I haven't had any problems people have mentioned in any of these threads.
I hope that helps.
Back up all your apps and settings. Factory reset and dont acceptances motorolas terms. Someone mentioned that on another thread. Can't remember who.
That may not be a solution for you tho.

You have to delete/rename otacerts.zip (which requires root access).
from adb:
Code:
adb shell
$ su
# cd /system/etc/security
# mv otacerts.zip otacerts.zip.bak
# exit
$ exit
and of course it's a good idea to have a backup of otacerts.zip just in case.
Please note, that my phone is currently not in a "working" state and that the directory may not be correct. but i'm pretty sure it is.
i've heard freeze fota.apk, then i heard freeze blurupdater_vzw.apk. i forgot about otacerts.zip.
at this point, i'm pretty sure no one knows which of the above, if any, stops updates. me, i'm freezing all three and loading boostrap and cwm recovery.
I froze Updater 2.2.2 ... worked fine
I want to do this too. No problems at all?

I can't download any apps from Market. I'm assuming that freezing "updater 2.2.2" causes this issue.

[Q] Dx2 Cant Root

Ok, i'm not a noob but i'm not the best at this stuff either. i have searched for the past 3 days. Got my DX2 the other day coming from a droid incredible. Day one of the incredible i had it rooted, then had it S-off not far after.
Day one with the dx, havent done much research. Get the phone, check for system updates, it says it has an update for 2.3.3. O yay, i don't have to wait to get gb on here. woohoo. DL it while at work since i shouldn't be playing on the phone anyway.
Get home. go online to try see what i have to do to get root so i can get some screen shots going and just all around get it back to the feel of having control of my phone. see a few ways of root, all of them saying to sbf back to 2.2. Well damn, wish i hadnt updated. Ok, lets try this sbf thing.
IDK why, but it won't let me sbf. Ive tried. Several times. No dice, always says failed.
Lets keep looking. O yay, a one click method for the ota GB?!?! woohoo!! i try it....try it several times. try it more times.....WTMFHELL!!???!!!?? i got nothing. i don't know why it wont let me root it...but it wont. if anyone has any advice, any tips...anything at all, i'm all ears. i've tried sbf, i've tried the adb commands but for some reason it won't let me use adb, says java isn't in the path, cant fix it. tried one click, different variations of one click. i got nothing
build number 4.5.1a-dtn-117-15
if anyone can help me i would greatly GREATLY APPRECIATE IT
sorry for the long wind
thanks for your time
-Typhoone
There is a one click root that i just used on a freinds phone and it worked great and you don't have to do any of that sbf'ing or anything...

go to market and download app called busybox installer, it will give you options to what version of busybox you want...select 1.18.2 and try to install.
Won't open. Can't run, may be because it doesn't have root rights

Maybe try to sbf to froyo 2.2 and then install P3's Rooted GB update, have you tried that?
it won't let me sbf, keep getting a failure every time i've tried.
does it try to sbf then fail? Does the phone show up in RSD?
Try a different sbf file maybe the one you have is corrupt.
WWW.k33pw1shen.WordPress.com I have all the files over there
Dx2RGB.E
The only reason I referred you there is someone commented on my page that they had tried a couple different things and mine was the only one that worked
Dx2RGB.E
tried it using a different sbf file and a different usb port on my comp and its in the process of makine me feel like it just may work.
just rebooted and
bootlooped. lol
recovery
full wipe

thanks for your help, greatly appreciated.

Glad we could help
Dx2RGB.E
i know i'm late, but are you sure you were on charging mode, i know its a bit out there but that could effect.... ALOT
Side note, none of the screen cap apps on the market work on the x2. I believe it's a tegra 2 issue.
Someone wrote an app called "Screen Grabber" for the Atrix that works perfectly on the x2.

[Update] Bug Fix On The Way

http://www.androidcentral.com/droid-razr-about-get-bugfix-update-including-data-and-camera
Verizon PDF - http://support.verizonwireless.com/pdf/system_update/droid_razr.pdf
Some good news for those of you suffering with that little slice of sexy otherwise known as the Motorola Droid RAZR: An update's on the way (and we're told that a soak test has already begun) that's going to squash a few bugs, including that blasted SIM card error, and to improve the camera. Here's the list:
SIM error notification has been fixed
Improved camera features and quality
Improved stability of menu access, browser, phone dialer, video playback and music player to prevent force-close errors and lockups
Updated group message notification in e-mail
Improvement in 3G/4G data connectivity
Maintain network connection upon completion of a voiec call
Background color has been adjusted to improve readability in Lapdock connection UI menu items.
Good stuff. Look for the update to drop any time now.

Yes. Complete stock.
No to the unroot. Apply the Forever Root patch and cross your fingers.
Wonder if this update will break root.
In my experience, it's safe to assume that all OTA updates will break root. This doesn't mean the device can't be re-rooted, but if you're really worried about it, it's best to wait for your favorite dev to incorporate the update in their ROMs.

Manual Update Download
How come the manual update.zip download is not available from someone who has gotten it already...I would have guessed this would be the place to find it!
The OTA here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20477505&posted=1#post20477505 can keep root with voodoo rootkeeper. So theres a good chance you can keep root using this.
I'd suggest trying this anyway as the leaked OTA can't currently be rooted after its applied, I assume this will be the case with the official update.

Just got tbolt, about to root, have a question

Ive been reading and searching, i have 2.11.605.0 installed on my phone from factory. Is there anything special, like downgrade or anything, that i need to do to run revolutionary?
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA App
I rooted with Revolutionary from .5 without a problem, so I don't think so - as far as I can tell you only need to worry about downgrading from .9 to root.
it's weird that your phone came with such an old firmware version installed...did it ever try to run any OTA upgrades?

Very nice. I'm still running the Incredible but will probably get a Tbolt this week. The Inc is in perfect condition but I'm looking for a larger screen and a front facing camera. Plus I can pick one up for $49. While the Bionic is nice and the GNex is the caddy, I'm just not going to spend that kind of money.
Thats how i felt, im very happy with this phone. Actually runnin the same rom by newt i had on dinc, mcrunny sense!

Incredible to TBolt
Hey Guys -
Got and rooted my TBolt on Thu 1/5.
It came w/ same (older?) software as Donny.
For grins, intellectual curiosity mostly, I chose to d/l and install OTA's, then root. When following the step-by-step guides @ the links below, easy as pie.
downgrade
http://www.thunderboltforums.com/forum/htc-thunderbolt-development/7218-how-downgrade-get-s-off-after-updating-latest-ota-2-11-605-9-a.html
then this to S-OFF, Recovery, and Superuser
http://www.thunderboltforums.com/forum/htc-thundebolt-hacking-guides/5259-rs-approved-revolutionary-5-minutes-less-root-without-data-loss.html
Only oddity was when running the exploit it seemed to hang on "Waiting for Device". I poked around a couple forums for advice, and tried toggling USB Debugging and off it went.
Running CM 7.1.1 - just like on Incredible - like this new device quite a bit!
Happy to help others via PM if they may have questions.
Kind regards.

It's live as of 6:30am in good 'ole SC.
Use mattlgroff's Utility to "Keep root through OTA" although at least one person has reported not needing to use that...supposedly the tool worked just fine to root .181, but that gamble is up to you. ;-)
tCizler & maestro53 - I am new to the RAZR, just got mine yesterday, actually...but you haven't mentioned anything about recoveries...if you're running safestrap, etc. I imagine you will have to restore to stock before the update will work.
But a more informed individual is free to give me a slap upside the head.

Hmm. Again, take this with a grain of salt, as I am new to the phone, and this is most likely an extreme option...
You could backup your data/apps using the program of your choice (I've found ROM Toolbox to be the best) and then use DRU 1.51 to "sbf" restore to .173.
That's what I did, as I got the phone from a friend who had ICS/safestrap and all sorts of stuff done to it and something in there made my 4G not work so I wanted to start fresh.
That being said, I am only just now about to attempt the update, so I'm putting my foot in a position such that it might be quickly inserted into my mouth, if necessary.
Just got mine. Warner Robins GA.
Also if you have after market recovery it won't install.
I was rooted .173 and took the update. I didn't unroot. Installed correctly and restored root w root keeper. Very nice.
Went through without a hitch here in monroe Michigan stock rooted and also kept root without backing up still looking for the changes but otherwise working great.

I might be insane from staying up all night, but I coulda swore I saw (either on here or on droidrzr) a "rebloating" script that essentially went through and made sure any such changes would be undone.
And cmon, it's not that bad. The restart will be good for ya, get rid of some of those apps you think you need but really don't. ;-)
Anyway...I went ahead and applied the update on stock/unrooted .173, then used DRU 1.51's GB Root option and it completed successfully, Superuser is on my phone and all seems dandy.
So if you're running stock/unrooted .173 it's CONFIRMED that you do NOT need to root and then use Voodoo's OTA Rootkeeper app to make sure you'll have root in .181. However, if you're already rooted, I'm not sure what happens.
If I understand correctly how Voodoo works, you may need to use Voodoo in order for the update to complete successfully. tCizler, have you tried that?
Now I just gotta figure out what I'm gonna do from here haha...With this update, will I be unable to install most ROMs or should this have no effect on that?
EDIT:
tCizler...I realize I'm firing shots in the dark here, but you may wish to check out this thread. My apologies if it doesn't apply.
