dont know why, im using Method Doomlord V4, its useless
im using Method SuperoneClick, same too <-- It was hang in a middle of process
what wrong?
my phone?
owh yeah,.. my phone is Gingerbread, its that a problem?

OK if you are on Gingerbread, you have to do it like this. But your data will be lost, so backup your data first.
Do the first step from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1695514
You can perform the 2nd step of the tutorial, too to root your Gingerbread rom, but i would root with flashtool. That means you do step 1 of the Tutorial and start your phone.
Then you enable usb debugging on your phone and allow non market apps. After that, you connect your phone to your PC again and start flashtool. There you klick on the open padlock and your device will be rooted automaticly. After reboot, root should be available!

OKay man thankxx..
i' will try it. and report it here..

Ok what I forot: Don't perform my first solution, if your bootloader is unlocked, otherwise your phone will not boot again!
And: If you don't want to loose your data, you can untick the box with "wipe userdata" in flashtool, so your apps should still be there after the downgrade.
On which version are you? If you are on the .69 or .62 firmware version, you must perform the Downgrade step, if you are on .58 or any other version, you can just connect to flashtool and klick the padlock to root. On older than 62/69 you don't need to downgrade!
Michael

Updating via PC Companion removes root.

You wont loose root if you follow this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26914104#post26914104
basically:
1. run 01-local-prop.cmd to create /data/local.prop (enable android emulator hack)
2. power off device and update your device WITHOUT FACTORY RESET
3. run 02-push-root-files.cmd to push su binary and superuser.apk
4. your device will automatically reboot
(Btw remember that the scripts only run ok if you are using the MSC connection mode for USB)

superOneClick is only for below 2.2 .. maybe that's why you failed

[TUT] Install Stock 4.0.2.A.0.62 rom [+Root and CWM]

Here is the tutorial for Installing stock 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM plus root and CWM. I am not responsible or anyone mentioned below for bricking your phone in case, tested on my Xperia ray with unlocked bootloader using S1 tool.
Requirements
Unlocked Bootloader (preferred) although there is a work around for locked bootloader
4.0.2.A.0.62 FTF files
Flashtool
recoveryRay.img by and Rootxperia.zip b1n4ry (for rooting)
CWM
Installation:
How to Install stock 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM:
Download this stock 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM. Thank you Aire for providing the link.
After download you will have a zip file. Extract it.
Download flashtool here and extract it.
Create FTF file using flashtool from the 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM zip you extracted earlier. Now if you don't know how to create FTF files, there's a good tutorial here.
If you successfully created FTF file, you should see a file with extension “.ftf” in the “firmwares” folder inside “FlashTool” folder
Run the executable “X10FlashTool.exe” located in the FlashTool folder
Now click “Flash” button and select flashboot. Now select the firmware from the popup menu. Make sure “Wipe user data” box is checked and then click “OK”.
The application will ask you to put your Ray in flashboot mode, to do this turn off the phone, hold the volume down button while while connecting the USB cable to your computer.
Follow the on screen instruction and your device will reboot. Notice that the reboot process will take longer at first.
How to install Root
Please note that this is only applied to devices with unlocked bootloader. Alternately, you can just install a custom kernel and root using zergrush method but if you want to try the .62 kernel from this stock rom then do this.
Download rootxperia.zip here and place it in your sd card
Enter device in fastboot mode. Turn off phone, hold volume up while you connect the USB cable to computer
Download the recoverRAY.img provided below, you will get a zip file, extract it.
Open folder inside Flashtool where fastboot.exe exists (/FlashTool/x10flasher_lib)
Place the recoveryRAy.img inside the folder
Open command line in this folder
Test if it recognize your device, to do this type fastboot devices, if there is a result here proceed.
Now here's the tricky part, to enter a temporary recovery type fastboot boot recoveryRAY.img
*Notice that we didn't use fastboot flash boot ****.img here because as bin4ry said this recovery is designed to work just as recovery, if you flash it to your device it will NOT boot system anymore! This is just a temporary recovery for you so be careful not to flash it.
Now wait and your phone will reboot, you will see the FREE XPERIA splash screen and your device will now enter temp CWM recovery
On your phone choose install custom zip, locate the rootxperia.zip you added earlier in your SD card and flash it.
Reboot, your device is now rooted.
*to root your device with locked bootloader, they say you can install previous stock kernel and root using zergrush method.
How to install CWM
Download this then extract
Make sure you enabled USB debugging, and also you need to set Screen timeout to 10 minutes so you don't miss the superuser promt
Run install-cwm1.cmd from the folder
Follow screen on screen instruction, reboot.

Aire said, his current kernel supports .62 but they are currently working for repack based on this new firmware.
I haven't tried installing any custom firmware at the moment, I want to test this stock firmware for changes and improvement especially the baseband and battery consumption.

Hm ok, btw, can you post the original link for rootxperia.zip?
EDIT: sorry you already did that thanks!
UPDATE: I'm trying to do SEUS update now though. Hope this thing won't brick..
UPDATE 2: SEUS update won't brick our phone if it uses the Testpoint method O what a happy day it is.. Let's see if i can flash aire kernel back.
is that a global version or what ? some people said, that version has some bugs..
can we root this version with the new DoomLord v4 Root ?
from the Arc forum, i found that they can root their device with .62 firmware just by using flashtool.. can we do that so ?
thx

The firmware is provided by Aire, however if you encounter ftf generic firmware, it will be nice if you post it here.
As to bugs, I'm using this firmware for a day now and I noticed improvement in battery and speed, no bugs so far. I haven't tried the doomlord v4 root, but rooting via recovery is easy.

O that.. That means you need to unlock the bootloader (at least with Test Point method). Never thought that won't work before.
most download link from MultiUpload cannot download the firmware 4.0.2.A.0.62 ROM, any alternative link?
Thanks.

If your bootloader is still locked you can not root your device using that method. The only work around is to install previous kernel and root using zergrush method.

Thank you "idareyoutoclickthis" and "hansip87" for your replies.
In fact I had rooted my Ray earlier 4.0.2.A.0.42ver using the zergrush method using DooMLoRD_v4_Root Which I lost when I upgraded to 4.0.2.A.0.62ver. Now DooMLoRD_v4_Root won't work with 4.0.2.A.0.62ver update.
Now what about the bootloader thing? Sorry for being so dumb. Can you please elaborate a bit? I've got only got to the point wherein i checked the status using the service menu (*#*#.....#*#). It only says Rooting Status: Bootloader unlocking allowed: Yes.
What do I have to do now? Please help.

Indeed .62 is the latest built which include alot of improvements specially on batter issue.
If you don't want custom rom and kernel and is contented with the stock ROM and kernel then you don't need to unlock your bootloader.
to root your device, you need to flash stock 4.0.2.A.0.42 kernel only, you can do this with locked bootloader and root using zergrush method.

ROOT TO ROM IN X10 Mini PRO (from stock ROM or custom ROM)

ROOT TO ROM IN X10 Mini PRO (from stock ROM or custom ROM)
(thanks to xda developers nobodyAtall, Spyderex, Emperor.dk and many)
updating my earlier post. The complications in installing recovery completely removed. Now it is easy as charm.
I had myself miniCM pro v21 in stock kernal in my x10 mini pro. So this post intends to do on
1. flashing back to custom sony rom
2. rooting (with busy box installing)
3. installing recovery
4. unlocking bootloader
5. flashing custom kernel
6. flashing cutom ROM and google apps
before that : there are many other steps and methods for this but many of them did not work for me. I am describing here what worked for me.
Before starting save all your needed apps using app saver or with my backup root / titanium backup (after root). Back up your account with google account or export your contacts as .vcf to sd card for later import.
You should have through out internet connection and sometimes you would have to switch off the Antivirus to get it done properly. Also allow adb.exe to connect to net through firewall when needed.
1. FLASHING TO CUSTOM ROM WITH SONY ERICSSON PC COMPANION ( if you are having a custom ROM: other wise proceed to next step of rooting)
1. download and install pc companion from here http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/sup...ject/pccompanion/xperiax10minipro?cc=in&lc=en if you are not already having it. Then make it recognize the phone.
2. Select support and update. It may tell having the latest update but go for repair.
3. Follow the commands. This may take a while
4. correctly follow the command to connect the phone in flash mode (switched off and back switch pressed)
later you have your old blue sony rom back.
1. ROOTING
1. download superoneclik.exe from here. http://www.mediafire.com/file/x1l6n7owj7uldbl/SuperOneClick.zip The problem is that many versions do not help and this version did it for me. Unzip and run the .exe
2. Plug the phone and leave it as such (do not charg/ connect or anything)
3. click root and follow the commands when prompted (like want to test?)
4. done (donate if you feel so)
5. Check for the superuser app in menu if it have been rooted.
Then go to market and install
* busybox
* root explorer (just to be on safer side)
3. RECOVERY
found out the easy way. Thanks to devrruti and rect2049 in xda
1. Download this clockworkmod installer from here https://github.com/downloads/react2409/X10-Mini-Pro-Utilities/CWMInstaller-Windows-v4-dl.zip
2. switch on the phone and connect the phone (ensure debugging mode on)
3. unzip the downloaded zip file and run the install.bat file. Follow the instructions
4. now disconnect when finished, switch off phone
5. switch on and when sony logo comes start multiple pressing and releasing the back switch to enter recovery mode
so there is cwm recovery
4. UNLOCKING BOOTLOADER
download the flashtool from (0.5.3 -I used) here. http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/
1. before advancing further download the required ROM (for me miniCM7 from http://minicm.googlecode.com/files/MiniCM7-2.1.8-mimmi.zip )and google apps from http://cmw.22aaf3.com/gapps/gapps-gb-20110613-signed.zip and copy both to the root of sdcard
2. open the install location of flashtool and install the ggsetup-2.2.0.11.exe file inside and install Gordon’s Gate found in /drivers folder
3. then restart the computer, open the task manager and kill any process named adb.exe
4. donot open flashtool after this till needed.
5. Download the s1tool to confirm the unlock certificate of phone from http://db.tt/OrOQO33 and unlocking tools from here http://db.tt/0zUMR5S4
6. Unzip the s1 tool to the designated folder and run the s1.exe. Switch off the phone. Select the Do Job button and wait.
7. Connect the phone in flash mode (switched off and back button pressed)
8. proceed further only if the screen shows semc simlock certificate
9. unplug the phone, switch it phone, connect to the computer
10. run msm7227_semc.cmd in the directory you unzipped the unlocking files to and press any key to start the unlocking process.
11. If everything goes correctly the log will show press any key at the end.
5. CUSTOM KERNEL AND ROM
download the require kernel.ftf from auther’s site (for me the kernel suiting my ROM was nAa kernal from http://minicm.googlecode.com/files/U20_nAa-10_2.6.29.6-nAa-10.ftf
1. copy this to the /firmware folder in flashtool install folder
2. run the flashtool and select flash, then flashmode
3. select the desired kernel
4. switch off the phone and connect in flash mode when pop up requests
5. disconnect phone when the tool says so
6. switch on the phone and enter the recovery mode when kernel logo comes by repeatedly pressing and releasing the back switch
7. in the recovery mode, do a backup from backup and restore option (up and down by volume keys and select by middle switch)
8. do a factory wipe data
9. then flash the ROM zip by selecting the option install zip from sdcard option followed by gapps zip flashing
10. finish this and take reboot (long)
Enjoy the new experience
A guide that can be stickied for newbies. i like this.
You can even modify the thread by giving elaborate colors and headlines and make it attractive. (if you are interested in doing that so)
Appreciate your work bro!
Thanks!

Like it.. But the rooting part is gonna feel complex for newbies... There are flash file which root and install CWM recovery automatically without any complication...
unnecessary rooting and recovery installs
I appreciate what you are trying to do as SpyderX's thread can be daunting. I think it would be easier to keep people using one tool as you go around the houses a bit.
Perhaps a simpler route from stock using S1 tool and flashtool. This is just an overview as I've copied and pasted it from my blog and would need expanding with links and sufficient detail:
Backup part 1 - use apps such as SMS Backup +, Bookmark sort and backup, APN backup and restore
Check that your bootloader can be safely unlocked with S1 tool (download from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19624790&postcount=2)
Turn on USB debugging on the phone (in settings in the applications section)
Use flashtool to root the phone (download from the homepage http://androxyde.github.com/Flashtool/)
Backup part 2 - use a root backup app (Titanium backup or MyBackup Root)
Use flashtool to unlock the bootloader
Flash the kernel (e.g. nAa kernel) in flashtool
Boot into CWM Recovery (assuming and flash customised firmware (e.g. MiniCM7)

I made exactly the same thread quite ago, I was really motivated and stuff but mods just moved it and got it forgotten in the general section. It even had colors, headlines, sections, collaborators, and stuff, sorry to disappointing you but with staff like this it is impossible to help newbies.. I even explained why post it on the developers section: Strictly, it should have been posted on General, yes, but the guide is directed to new members. Most of them probably doesn't check nor even know there is that section. It got moved anyways without any warning or a single word from the one who did it..
Anyways, good luck.

That's awesome! Thanks!
Do you think this method will also work on the ARC S (ST18i)?
Sorry... TL18a
Your tutorial is a bit familiar LOL
As a newbe: some extra questions
You explain clear & idiot-proof, until I came along...
So as a newbe I have a few extra questions.
1. I have a new Xperia Ray 4.0.2.A.0.62 / 2.3.4 / ST18i out of the box. You mention OTA - update is recommended, as I already have 4.0.2.A.0.62; is that ok?
2. You mention You must unlock your bootloader, do you mean go to the offical Sony-Ericsson site and unlock bootloader the "official way"? (I have done this)
3. Which Flashtool, do you mean in point 4? And where can I find it/ download this flashtool?
4. After Unlocking the bootloader & Rooting my xperia ray, I believe I can remove bloatware like (wisepilot-trial, tetris-demo, facebook, topapps, etc.). But: what do I do to remove an app? Do I simply remove \system\apps\chinesetextinput.apk or do I have to uninstall it somehow like a computerprogram?
5. After rooting the system directory continues accessible? Is there a way to protect it again, after the removal of the bloatware? (my goal is just to remove the bloatware)
I hope my questions are not to dumb? With my first smartphone just for a couple of weeks I am a real newbe.

Rooted
@Vagrik:
Tried it, done it, and got rid of facebook!. With "bloatware" I meant all the unwanted (cr)apps. Offcourse: chinese is gone too. Thanx.
@others:
I used the root, I had to try & see, a little bit of knowledge about ancient msdos helpt me.
First I was confused about placing the zip on the sdcard & the fastboot on my computer, but step by step it just worked out fine.
So I did use the step by step tutorial, including Fastboot, CWM, after that superuser & titanium backup. With titanium backup you can backup all apps; and uninstall the (cr)apps one by one. (I am glad I made a backup first...).
In the end: rooting was easier than the login at this forum... !!! I must have tried a hundred times to finally place this message!
Got one question left: does anyone know the apps connected to "latitude","places", "navigation"; it seems all google; but which apps exactly ?
When u install maps; places, latitude and navigation get installed along with maps
Hello, the tutorial is great but I have may questions.
Download rootxperia.zip here and place it in your sd card
there's two folders in the rootxperia.zip do I unzip the contents of rootxperia.zip in to my sd card or just place the rooxperia.zip in to sd card?
Open folder inside Flashtool where fastboot.exe exists (/FlashTool/x10flasher_lib)
You mean create folder in flashtool folder? could you explain in detail this part?

[live with walkman] CWM problems

can anyone make a tutorial about how to install cwm with SE Extreme Tweak Installer v1.8
it says suerimission denied
On which firmware are you? 4.0.2.A.0.62?
Is your device rooted? Because permission denied meens, that you have no root.
If you want to install clockworkmod on lww, check this out. It will automaticly install cwm, but I don't know if it works on locked bootloader...
For SE Tweak installer you could check this out. It's a tutorial
how to root it then?
On which firmware version are you? 4.0.2.A.0.62?
Check out this here
But go to settings -> about phone -> build number and tell which version please!
Simplest Guide to install cmw !
As is usual with most updates, the Sony Ericsson Walkman Live lost root access after its recent update to Android 4.0.4. The guide below will show you how to obtain root access on this device running the 4.1.B.0.431 version of the OS and install ClockworkMod Recovery, enabling you to flash custom ROMs and do other things that require root access.
I. Before You Begin
1. This will not erase any data from your device, but as a precaution, do a backup of what you feel is important just in case.
2. This solution works by flashing a modified kernel that will provide root access. If you are not okay with this, do not proceed any further.
3. You will need a device with an unlocked bootloader for the procedure to work.
{ 4. If you want to install custom rom then download the custom rom and extract it. then there would a boot.img and replace it with the below bootextended blah blah.img } not understood? obviously... read full and then come back to this step.
II. Necessary Downloads
1. boot_EXtendedStockKernel_WT19i.img.
2. Fastboot Files
III. Flashing the Modified Kernel
1. Extract the fastboot-win32.zip file you downloaded above to a folder in your C:\ drive. You should end up with a folder named C:\fastboot-win32 containing fastboot.exe. Rename folder to fastboot for ease.
2. Copy the boot_EXtendedStockKernel_WT19i.img file you downloaded above to the same folder. Rename the file as boot.img for ease
3. Power down your device and put it into Fastboot Mode. To do this, press and hold the Volume Up + Power buttons until it enters the Fastboot mode. Blue led will glow.
3. Open up a Command Prompt window. To do this on your Windows 7 PC, click on the Windows Start button, type cmd in the search box and hit enter.
4. Run the following commands: (Get into . fastboot directory first ):- It should look as this
c:\fastboot\ fastboot flash boot.img
That’s it! You should have a rooted device after a reboot!
pls hit thanks if i helped.!

But that's for unlocked bootloader only! With the method I posted, you can root without unlocking the bootloader...
@OP Please tell us which build number you have! You must go to settings -> About phone -> Build number and tell us the number (or at least the 3 or 2 last numbers). If .42, .58, .62, .69, .432, .578! Otherwise we can't help you
First off, greetings to all. Not trying to hijack the thread but I have a quasi-related question.
Have a LWW WT19i, with Android 4.1.B.0.431 rooted as per the instructions here, with a locked bootloader (unlock allowed: no). I want to install Real ICS r5.2 which states it works with a locked BL, however the instructions ask me to use CWM which I can find no clear tutorial on how to install (most guides suggest installing new kernel).
Any help would be appreciated. Also fini13, if you're as new to this as I am, the guide I listed should help you at least with the rooting.

Not when you use stock kernel
It's just necessary to install a custom kernel.
