I just got my evo v 4g today and found out that it has hboot 2.18.0001 and am asking if anyone has the phone and s-offed and rooted it that way they could give me a few pointers or tips on how to s-off and root as quick and painlessly as possible. Anything would greatly be appreciated.

Yes. Check the downgrade threads or the Juopunutbear thread for more information.
I have not used JB, so I cannot vouch for it. I have nothing good or bad to say about it. However, at this very moment, being an EVO V owner, it would probably be your best bet. Ramjet73 and evomike77 have been very supportive in the thread.

For all we know they may be working on a root method but with the lack of success of Gingerbreak and other one-click root methods I would guess that they, like many others, are having a hard time finding a useable exploit...

I've been a member here for a long time, but do not speak much as most questions I would have about any of my devices have clearly been discussed.
I also understand where new members would not know much about whats going on at times, but its nothing more than a simple search. I (and all other members new/old) have to search like everyone else. Its really not hard.
Its also believed with the great devs that are doing what they can (and I THANK YOU for that) to get root available for our device. I'm SURE they will have something up (as in a new thread) that they have achieved what we have been waiting for. Its going to happen. Be appreciative that we even have devs that are making the time to find out all that they can. Without them, we'd be in a world of hurt.

Think of "development" like a business...professionalism is important in business, no? There is a job that is being done here.
If you are looking for the tavern take it to General, if you are looking for the visitors assistance center take it to Q&A. This is all spelled out in the rules. If you have no "developing" to contribute to the "development" please take it elsewhere.

Did it occur to you that maybe if Revolutionary worked on HBOOT 1.5, that the thread concerning HBOOT 1.5 might actually say this? Is that not enough of an answer for you? Were you expected a tailor-made response from ARX? Guess what; the world doesn't revolve around you or that phone. When they figure it out, if they figure it out, you will know right away. If that's not enough, I can use the search function (something that someone who is not a "noob" should know about), and show you several more threads were there's the same question and the same answer.
It's not really anyone else's problem if you can't A) Read, B) accept that the answer is just "not yet" or C) use the search function. So calm down with the ego a bit, eh?
I don't think I've seen anyone stupid enough to admit they posted in the wrong area without even bothering to search, but still have the gall to mock someone else who's telling you otherwise. I think it may help over time.. but just like all sections people post in the wrong section or triple post in every section.
And most people around here are to lazy to use HTC unlock method because they will have to flash from a computer. Let alone flash a rom... then talk about it on a different sub-forum....

Honestly, GSM and CDMA should just be two complete separate forums. Different General, different Q&A, etc

I helped get the G2X forum opened before its release date. I did my one good deed this year.. lol
But you should talk to jay and see if he can start to sticky threads in Q/A for now. And you can help keep them up to date

That is so sweet!!! That was contained in their q&a subforum so no new forum would be needed. So who's responsibility is it to start the q&a thread? I noticed some were started by a mod while others were by the rom developers.
It might be worth making this thread a poll so mods can get a gauge of public opinion about this. Personally I would vote hell yes!
I encourage devs to start a separate thread from the actual rom thread for off topic q&a type stuff. Miui has it here with the miui one stop shop thread. Cm had it for the most part in general. I support the separate thread idea.
And if only jay, haus and I were mods here.. Where is that petition?

Why help? This is a community that's built on helping and learning (at least its supposed to be). I spent months asking stupid questions and then I got to the point where I could start helping. We need to let the mods sort out where the posts belong.
If I were on vacation and went to a gas station to buy beer and I didn't see any on the shelves, I might ask the clerk if this is a dry county. They would say yes or they'd say no we're out. I wouldn't expect the clerk to say "go do some f..king research".

I have my evo 4g lte flashed to metro, with everything working, however, i messed something up on qpst earlier and now it won't connect to the network, does anyone have the qpst settings for it? I can help out with whatever i need, i tried following bloody's post on how to flash the 4g/3d qpst settings but those settings don't work with the lte apparently, any help would be appreciated!
