[Q] ICS Call Function - Galaxy Tab 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone know if Stock ICS for Tab 10.1 3G (to be released this month) is going to have Call function enabled? I mean GSM calls. Is CM or any other developer working on this?

A couple of months ago I jokingly said that I hope they give us the full call capability (showcased on the Tab 2) and the split screen functionality (showcased on the Note 10.1) to ask for our forgiveness for the delay in the ICS update
Having full call capability would be awesome... AFAIK, though, there is no word of it being even possible on our Tabs (the Tab 2 has different internals). I do hope the hardware is all there and it's just a matter of taking advantage of it via software (and I do hope that they decide to do it with this update). I am pessimist on both counts

[Q] CM7 and Wi-Fi Calling?

Hey all, I've been running CM7 on the Vibrant for a couple of days, but I have noticed that there is no support for Wi-Fi calling. I LOVE the ROM, but Wi-Fi calling, due to where I live, is a must for me... I've tried asking in the CM7 thread multiple times if anyone has gotten it to work, but my question always gets ignored :/
So my question is this. Is it possible to get Wi-Fi calling working on CM7 for the Vibrant? If so, how?
I've seen threads about Wi-Fi calling working on CM7 for the Nexus One, so what is keeping it from our phones?
Thanks for helping me understand this better
Bump? Can anybody help?
I rarely use wifi calling but do you what the internet calling options under settings indicate? Is that the same as wifi calling?
i did a quick search and it looks like the devs are still working on a wifi calling for it on the nexus s.

Here's the answer from the Cyanogen Vibrant Wiki:
Is TMobile's WiFi Calling supported on CyanogenMod 7?
No. Due to the maintainers that have a Samsung Vibrant not having a TMobile account, they are unable to test or develop this. This will likely have to come from a third-party maintainer or someone willing to help bring it to the stock kernel, which can actually be tested on TMobile.
Looks like the answer/fix will have to come from outside of the Cyanogen community. It appears that most ROM devs are having the same problem with Gingerbread. Though I love my CM7 Nightly build #56, I'll probably change ROMs if some other developer gets this issue fixed, provided GPS still works, too!
I have it understood that the problem with wifi calling on cm7 is that it depends on alot of samsung's roots in our phone which would have to be added or faked in order to get it to work... 'twould be quite a job... this is my understanding, could be waay off

Any new info??
Does anyone else know if there is an apk for the wifi calling yet?

[Q] Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959V) 911 and Fixes/Roms

My girlfriend recently purchased a Samsung Galaxy S 4G (SGH-T959V). I enjoy all the features I get from rooting, etc on my G2. I saw the Gingerbread update from T-Mobile and have installed it for her. I wanted her to be able to have root, remove bloatware and have the lagfix (voodoo, assuming it is still needed) working. As I was getting ready to find her a good ROM this CM 911 dustup happened. It's ok if she keeps the Samsung ROM, my question is where is this 911 "feature" stored? In other words, what can be done to her phone without destroying emergancy calling? I am pretty sure just rooting it is fine. Removing bloatware after rooting should be good also. I believe the lagfix replaces the kernel. If the kernel gets replaced will that break 911 calls? Is anyone working on a stock GB ROM (as officially released Nov 15) that would have root, removed bloat, and anything else safe that keeps 911 working? I would be glad to wipe the phone, root, remove bloat, (lagfix?) myself and post. I just do not know what is safe to play with. Is this just a radio issue, library issue or kernel issue? Any information would be appriciated. I would like to make her android experiance a good one that still allows her to call 911. I have searched the forums and the web but can't seem to nail down a good answer of what can be changed and what must be left alone to allow 911 to work.
911 operators are drunks anyways... here's some proof, provided from a random Google search.
This is the vibrant forum,sgh-t959 not t959v... very different..
From my understanding, cm7 is the only one with the 911 problem (and any rom coming from cm7)
. Stick to samsung roms and your good. Also the 911 thing isnt the end of the world.. you call them, they cant hear you.. hang up and theyll call you back

Ah, since the download for the updater said "Vibrant" (offical from Samsung) and the model number is so close I assumed they were mostly the same. I see now there is a S 4G forum. Sorry for the mix up. I would assume this phone could have the same issues if CM was ported. Currently it is listed as not supported. I'll move to the right forum and dig some more. Sorry for the waste of space. If anyone knows if these are affected by the 911 issue feel free to chime in. Or if a moderator wants to move this to the othe forum feel free.
Thanks
Lol the waste of space is no big deal and your right, id forgotten that they call yours the vibrant 4g. But still the two phones are very different hardwarewise, idk why.

ICS 4.0.3 leaked 1/12/2012 (my review)

So I installed it last night and it works great for the most part. The main issues I'm experiencing are the back and search hardware buttons do not work (home is back) nor do they light up, no incoming or out going sound on voice calls, and short battery life. After work I typically have about 70% battery left, today the phone died as I left. And I didn't check to see if the GPS, BT, and Cameras work. i heard video recording doesn't work on the international SGS2 with 4.0.3
anyone else tried it yet?
Here is a link to the Galaxys2root.com video where I found the link to the file.
What rom?
What ROM did you install? I looked at the ones listed under the AT&T GS2, and the only one close to ICS was the ICScreweD rom, which is not ICS.
Well, here's hoping that we get some ICS love soon...

You installed an international rom on your ATT phone. Hopefully you're able to flash it back to normal and a boot loader didn't come with it. Good luck.
PS
Red5 is probably 3 seconds away from locking this lol
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
A link to the rom is in the description of the video.
this is for the i9100 int'l SGS2 btw, NOT FOR AT&T I777

He installed one of the leaked samsung roms. It is for the international version and so it will have the softkey and call problems like he described.
It is obviously not something you would use as a daily driver, but it is fun to see what is on the way sometimes.
Thanks for not saying what ROM it was or thats its an international version so that other people that dont/cant read will flash and then we have 65146510484 threads started because their phone dosent work.
So to answer the OP question: No, because this rom isnt made for our phone... which is why about 40% your phone didnt work.

[Q] Ok Let me get this straight? (P4VZW)

So i have the Galaxy Tab 10.1 LTE from verizon..
I got CWM installed, and tried AKOP... No LTE support
Tried CM9, no LTE support...
so basically there is no LTE support or camera support for the tab? or did I miss something? (totally possible)
Thanks for your help.
BTW both booted fine, and looked good, but without LTE this tab is worthless to me.

No camera because no one has written a camera driver for ICS and Samsung hasn't released the official ICS for our tab. LTE isn't on any ICS ROMs, either, just Honeycomb.

now that is quite disappointing honestly.. I knew about the camera, and was ok with it, but without LTE... I might as well not have the thing
guess I have to wait till Samsung releases ICS, and Verizon checks it out..
I do Kind of wish that the ROM publishers would make that clear... you download a VZW version of a rom you assume that that would work unless otherwise specified.
So LTE doesn't work, but does 3g?
Don't get confused here . .for the SCH-i905 you will NOT get mobile data to work PERIOD. Flashing ICS based ROMs (CM9 or AOKP) that are marked compatible with the SCH-i905 (VZW) version of the GT 10.1 will result in that tablet becoming a WIFI ONLY device.
Until an official release is made there are no drivers available for the camera or the modem built into the LTE version which is why EVERYONE is waiting on camera drivers and all verizon tab users on contract are waiting on modem ones. Before anyone asks, NO the 3g modem driver for 3g models is not compatible with LTE.

Right I understand, but when you read what is and isnt working on the roms, and the only thing listed over and over and over again is the camera, you are likely to make a bad assumption that the LTE radio would work. I am not upset that it doesnt work, just wish the devs would do a slightly more comprehensive job detailing that the radio doesnt work.
I mean honestly if the rom is written with your tablet in mind, and besides and caveats you are already aware of, you would assume that the primary thing that sets your tablet asside from the rest.. would work.
I am just more disappointed that I have to wait for samsung to get off their lazy asses to make ICS a reality, I have a GNEX and am now spoiled by both ICS, and now JB, and really just cant wait to get my hands on them on this tablet.

No video Call!

Hey, isn't that weird? I cannot find any 3G Video Calling option in my Galaxy S2 i9100, although 3G connection is available in my area. Doesn't galaxy s2 support video calling?
It does on stock, yes.

Do you want to say that the STOCK ROM has got video call? I am not using stock, I am using Cyanogenmod. When I asked them about video calling, they said that neither the ROM nor the ANDROID has to to anything with video calling, SAMSUNG must put video calling support for their device.
That's what I just said. If the network you're using supports it & your 'plan' with your carrier allows it, you should be able to video call with stock. The phone has the necessary hardware which allows it, and the firmware also allows it.
Bottom line, if you want stuff 'to just work', you don't run AOSP, you run Touchjizz.
People can whinge all they want about sources/whatever but the bottom line is Samsung has no obligation whatsoever to release proprietary code, they're a business, not a charity. For a lot of stuff to work on AOSP, release of said code would be required. So the AOSP 'devs' whip the Android fanboys into a frenzy demanding Samsung release code that would be against their commercial interests to do so.
Also, just because you have '3G connection is available in my area', as I said above, your carrier needs to support it, and the plan you're on with your carrier has to allow it. And it is somewhat expensive to use, which is why alternatives which use your data allowance are more popular.
Edit - I'm not 100% sure if this is the case, but some stock roms for some carriers might not have the capability enabled, because those carriers may not have supported video calling at the time those roms were released (but they might now; we are talking about 2+ yrs ago for ICS & 18 mths ago for JB stock roms)
So, you want to say that, all the people around the world who are using AOSP roms (e.g. Cyanogenmod, AOKP, Carbon) would never be able to make a 3g video call? That's really crazy if that's true.
@rkoby13 @Spaulding89 @eskriminal @fusionjack
*shrugs*
You asked a question, I gave you an answer. I don't really care whether people using AOSP can/can't do something.
Next post you make to this thread you'll be having a conversation with yourself, I'm done here.

I never saw the use for 3g video call. Use viber/skype/similar if you're using AOSP. Can't say I've ever felt the need to make a 3g video call, so I don't see why it's crazy. If it's not a feature you need, it doesn't matter if the ROM doesn't support it.

Well, that's true. 3G Video calling is not that important. But say what, 3G is completely new in our country, I just wanted to test it.
So bottom line is, AOSP roms doesn't have 3g Video Call?
