Can anyone tell me if there's a way to manually boot the phone in USB disk mode? I just need to copy my SD card onto my computer, and the screen's broken, so no blind fumbling by memory to try and get it there the normal route.
RAWR (thanks for even looking at the thread if somebody does!!)
I don't know how to do exactly what you're asking. There may be a way. As an alternative, though, you could consider getting a micro-sd adaptor. They're quite cheap on Amazon, or you might ask around and find a friend that has one.
Thank you for the reply; I figured as much.
Do you or anyone else know if there is a way to wipe a Fascinate externally without use of the screen? Because, you know, the broken thingy...
Thanks again

Is this the wrong forum for this question? If not, I would like to be able to wipe my phone before I get it replaced.
Just follow the directions in droidstyles guide for how to Odin back to stock. You don't need to use the screen to Odin back to stock. As far as pulling the files off your SD card, why not just go get a card reader and copy them onto your computer. I am guessing you have already done all your reading and tried this, in which case the answer is no then.

The phone is already stock. I don't need to wipe a rom, just apps, contacts and personal info (factory reset I guess you would call it). I could just destroy the phone and keep the internal flash, but that seems like too much work and no replacement.
Took a while to find the guide you were talking about, but I think I got it as wiped as it's gonna get!! Thanks again, I appreciate the help

I have a quick question, and really don't have time to search as I'm about to head out. I'm trading my Vibrant to someone, and obviously I want to get rid of all my personal data on it. I have Bionix-v 1.3.1 and I was just curious what my best option would be. Should I just do a factory reset in CWM? Or should I re-flash the ROM completely? I have never touched Odin, so that is out of the question, because I don't want to F it up for him.
All info greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.
Matt
I would Odin back to stock and let the new buyer explore the world of custom ROM's... or not, as they choose
Also, don't forget to wipe the SD cards.
Assuming you are a NCSU guy like me?
Go to menu settings and format both internal/external (after you made a copy on your pc if you like)
Then use odin to get back to stock, a guide in my signature.
just don't login to your gmail when your phone boots

IMO, this is a critical step which is often over looked. Shred the SD cards, don't just delete the files. Odin and shred.
yeah, that's what I do too.. I use the unmount/format utility from SD CARD & PHONE STORAGE in the menu settings for conveniences... then I just pull the battery and start up ODIN.
OP, ODIN is a cake walk.. try reading the guide going back to stock. Shoot, if you are in Raleigh I can help.
Well thanks for the replies, but when I said that time was a factor, I meant I was leaving within the hour to make the swap. I came across a sweet deal and wanted to jump on it before someone else took it.
I'm not afraid of Odin, I just had never touched it, and I didn't want it to interfere with the deal. The guy was more than ok with Bionix being on it.
Anyway, the deal is done. I did the factory reset to wipe all the user data, and I cleared the sd cards.
Thanks all for the replies.
16gb Nook Tablet. Internal NookOS has never been messed with. I've been running CM7 from the SD card. The CM7 crashes a lot because of my SD card and apparently that's messed up the NookOS and now I can't boot back into the internal. I've tried the step-by-step Unbrick from the thread here and that didn't work. It keeps going back to "Please Restart Your Device...".
Any ideas?
I am of no help but can offer one thing
hey I am having a similar problem, mine nt stopped working (spontaneously started trying to factory restore and failing over and over) then I booted off sd, cm7 for a while.

You might want to keep an eye on the topic I posted today as well see if anyone has some help
Thanks. I thought about piggybacking on your thread, but then I decided against it. We are having similar problems. I guess we should keep an eye on each others threads.

Please tell us what you tried. .
I would recommend a CWM Recovery placed onto a ( good ) spare SD Card and boot it up ( from an 'off' condition ) by plugging in the power to the usb port.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21895025&postcount=14
.
or how about a "a clockwork mod backup of stock rooted" ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1495869
.
And thoroughly read and ask questions. The worst thing to do is NOT ask a question.
Thanks for replying. This is what I tried...

ah, and did you read this thread ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1610682
it was at the top of a google search.
I did check that out. Since it involved having rooted the internal and using CWM I kinda figured it might not apply to my situation.
I'm going to try the Ubuntu method. I'm downloading the image now. I didn't realize it's over a gig! Gonna take a few hours.
Any alternate links? This one is slow as heck.
I have read several times that the 'Ubuntu Method' does not work if you got bad ( goofed up ) partitions.

Isn't that the method you recommended before? Any other advice?
Edit: I suppose you didn't recommend it, you just pointed me at that thread. Not trying to insinuate you gave me bad advice.
I got a NT not long ago and it is now rooted and running CM10, however I still lost in regards the 1gb user partition. CM10 is installed in that partition and I wanted in fact repartition the NT but the process seems to be confuse and risky so I was wondering if I have to stay llimited to work with just 1GB.
How about games and other programs I download? Are they all be installed in that 1gb?
I inserted a 16gb card but I cannot re -direct the apps to install in the external or even move them to the sd ext card. I also cannot see it with a file manager.
Could I use the B&N partition to load movies, apps etc or it will be sitting there useless?
Is there maybe an easier way to re-flash and repartition?
Thank you
BUMP!
You can reaprtition the same way they do in stores if you want to and get an 8GB partition for own storage. The repart.img mentioned in many other topics will do that for you. You will loose everyhting and get right back to out of the box stock firmware if you do it, but it's really easy.

Thank you Asawi, yes I really would like to repartition it. I hate to have that wasted space.
I will try find the best thread on how to use the repart.img. or please point me out in case you already know.
Thanks!!

The download link is in the very beginning of this post. If you've got image writing software already you can then jump to step 2. Extract the downlad and burn the reaprt.img to a card. Insert card and boot to it. After a few minutes a green chejmark should appear. (If a red cross appears instead you're in trouble.) Remove card and an update starts and goes on for a few minutes and you can then start over with yout CM10 install again.

So after doing this will I have to reroot or I just have to reinstall cm10? Getting my 16gb card in the mail (hopefully today) should I wait to get the card or can I just copy everything from my 8bg to the 16 and everything remain? Thank you for your help!
It's probably me being stupid, but I don't understand what setup you have and quite what you are talking about. Running the repart .img will completely erase everything on the device and set it back to freshly bought. Whatever you have in internal memory that you want to save you need to save somewhere else.
I don't get your reasoning that CM10 is installed in your 1GB partition, because that is not the norm.
Probably me being stupid, but I can't help you.

Well, if you're installing CM10 you don't actually have to root as a separate process. Just install CM10 and rooting will come done at the same time. Itäs only if you plan to run stock you need to root.
If you have to go and get stuff from several pages you are probably not doing the installing in a very efficient way. Possibly things can be done a lot easier now than whe you originally did it.
Ihave made several posts outlining an extremely easy way to install CM. Look for them if you want to.

I had already done the root from a video I saw on youtube then used your link for cm from the [Q] Noob Alert! Nook Tablet 8GB Rooting Question! post. So just doing the cm from that same post will also root my device? I don't really need anything on the actually nook. I got it as a gift and use the kindle app for all my books. I will defiently look into your other posts. I just got the NT a little less than a month ago.
If you root before installing CM10 you'll just overwrite the root you did, so no point in doing it.
Once CM10 is installed your Tablet should be rooted.
All you need to do is get into CWM 6.x.x an flash the ROM and appropriate gApps zips.
I am usually here hoping to help others, now its my turn..............
I am a bit stumped here. I am trying to figure out why my phone doesn't seem to want to run 4.3
I have tried almost all of them. with stock kernel and alternate. I am not flashing a bunch of extra stuff or anything and ran various different builds. I am not trying to over rev the engine either. ive done these test over the past 2 weeks so i know i am not rushing anything
what I had been doing was flashing a ROM, any 4.3 and appropriate Gapps. I am very hygienic flasher and very careful to flash compatible packages. I would flash package and then use APP2ZIP to bring back all my apps. on the average about 24 hrs after flashing, I get reboot and it wont come back up. just keeps boot looping. I was thinking maybe had something to do with the apps i saved and flashed from APP2ZIPP being from 4.2 Gapps??? and i am trying to run 4.3 now. sounds kind of dumb now that i am typing it but, you pour a shot glass full of information into a thimball size brain, and you are bound to spill something.
so i tried today the 8/26 build of PAC ROM and did not flash my app zip. 2 hours later.........boot loop.
4.1 & 4.2 does not do this..............i don't get it.
is it something so simple it just got spilled?
4.3 didn't like my phone much either .........

That sucks captemo, 4.3 runs great on my phone far more stable then 4.2 . Have you tried wiping your internal and memory card? Is try that save all your important stuff wipe your phone completely and see how it runs.

You could try reverting to stock first, then installing 4.3.
My phone didn't like any custom roms besides padawan and I'm like wtf? One day I decided to use kies and blitz everything on my phone. Now I can flash any rom properly and don't have any issues. I also blitzed the memory card so everything was fresh.
Sorry to hear your troubles. Good luck!

i have thought about that, read that others have done this..........i get a little nervous on things like this though. i have seen so many files and not sure what comes in the OS and what i ended up putting in there. whats ok to dump and whats not. or if i dump it all, will the necessities load back in with new ROM? honestly, i can get so nervous on what i consider a drastic move, i will say some very stupid things.

i have thought about both of these. i don't really consider this TROUBLES. not like i cant run any of these great ROM's on this excellent site. i cant eat caviar, but i am definitely NOT starving. i just cant seem to run 4.3. you think the flash counter has anything to do with??? i know, another dumb comment.
i suppose if something goes wrong, i have even better reasoning in convincing AT&T to allow me early upgrade............hmmmmmmmm.
can you say MMMMEEEEEGGGGAAAA ?
thanks guys, i appreciate the responses. will let ya know
I've ODIN'd back to stock several times when I start getting unusual problems. Very simple process actually and BlownFuze has a simple guide with the necessary files to download in his AOKP thread. Just save your music, pictures, ringtone, notification, SMS backup and download folder files and any other files you have added to phone storage to your PC. Flash back to stock, root and install TWRP then wipe everything including emmc and away you go. If you go into TWRP and mount your storage you'll find that the file transfer to and from the PC goes much faster. Hope this helps.

i thank you for your feedback .i have returned to stock many times. it is the suggestion of clearing internal storage and deleting something vital. like going in for hangnail and removing the brain.
back on 4.2 until i get my ducks in a row and rehearse the process.

i don't think we ever know as much as we want to know.
many times i tell folks to slow down, read and understand what you are doing. i try and do the same even on the most basic things. its when you get to comfortable that you make the dumbest mistakes. that's why i actually do kind of rehearse. i go through all the motions and my wife will even ask "who are you talking to?"
these devices are just too expensive to be careless. nobody is going to give me money or fix my phone for me.
I delete internal with every flash .. I do complete wipes every time haha

Cap, my wife has my Note now, but it's running the first nightly of official 10.2 with Jamie's uber kernel.
Now, I don't mess with the kernel or change anything....I run just like Jamie offers it. And I mainly use the kernel for the swipe2wake feature. I didn't experience any r/r's when I was using it and let me tell you, if my wife was having problems.....she would be *****ing my head off.....

alright, so as I like to weigh my options, research and be confident.
I respect many opinions here and value experience. I agree that wiping the memory is probably not a bad idea. from what I gather, there are 2 ways to go about this..........
1. for arguments sake I will call it he manual way. where I need to move everything myself, either to SD or computer, wipe, then replace?
2. let KIES do all the work? honestly i have not used KIES in this type of situation.
will I need to root again or will it retain?
will KIES get a full erase as manual option my provide?
if I choose manual option how do I know I have moved ONLY my personal stuff and not a valuable part of the OS required for phone work after laying the ground to waste with napalm?
I can give anybody $500 or a brick, I don't need to make it myself

3. Let TWRP do it in recovery?

Hello all, I am looking for a little advice. I'll give as much backstory as possible:
I used the cyanogenmod one click installer, everything went well. Since the one click installer put twrp on I went and put clockworkmod on since im more familure with it. Everything fine restarted and phone worked however after I installed (attempted to install facebook messeger) the device rebooted and would not come back on. Sat for 5 mins vibrating over and over and over. Its not completely dead I am able to get to recovery and to download mode and believe I just had a bad download/install. Since i have Clockworkmod on here, I am thinking I could just install the most up to date stable rom available but I have a question:
How do I put the rom zip files on phone if phone wont come on.
Any advice towards this would be appreciated.
First off, where did you find a cyanogenmod one click installer? Possibly that was not meant for the I717.
Don't you have an external micro sd card? Place the card in your computer and copy the ROM zip to it. Put it back in your phone and use it to flash.

Sure thank you for the reply, from beta . download . cyanogenmod . org /install apparently it detects your phones version and does everything for you really, no option to pick your model/version # it auto detects. sorry for spaces it wouldnt let me post link complete.
And I did not know I could put the zips on external SD I had though only internal SD is option for where to put roms
