Pull my battery - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My s3 just froze while charging. After charging for a while I couldnt reactivate the screen with the home button or the power button, it was showing a red light. Had to pull my battery and restart, all working OK now, but a bit worrying.
Anybody else get this?
Got sick odd pulling my battery out of my old htc desire that had a damaged mother board, now I'm thinking... Oh no not again.

Any chance you are using a custom ROM/kernel? More specefically kernel?

It happened only once? or still happening evrytime you charge??
if only once or once in a bluemoon, its normal, may be due to any background application,

No all standard issue ROM no rooting here, has not happened since so fingers cross its a one of event.

Not happened yet but had plenty freezing on other phones, and that's just one reason why you'd have to be dumb to buy the One X if you ever plan on Rooting.

Thats the main reason I went with the s3 over the one x I rooted my htc desire and tried many roms battery pulling was a fairly regular event. Until they put a hard reset button on a phone I always want to have a cover to yank off.

Could you elaborate more about what this screen is?
If you had it you would know what I'm talking about for sure.
If you were just asking in general. It all appears to be a screen that gives you an option to go into download mode after your phones hardware resets. Phone boots into it.
I got a black Demigod screen on my old phone Friday. It was the proverbial straw on a phone that was rebooting itself daily - I exchanged it on the weekend.
The black screen was, I believe, for a kernel panic. I got the same 3 options: Download mode, reboot to normal and something else...
Does your phone get poor battery life. Does it make noise when you squeeze it? I wonder if all these issues are related. You should have your phone replaced. My phone does not give me any of the problems people are talking about
the best phone ever
Yep, I got the yellow screen this morning. I was like WTF is this? Rebooted and all is fine now. We'll see how long it lasts. Any idea what causes this?

Was told in irc that its a mode the phone goes into that allows jtag over usb. If it does it again im just taking this one back too. Everything seems normal after a reboot for me too, something is changing when it happens though because my hosts file reset both times.
Both times it happened i was on sk8s kernel. But i havent seen anyone else on it say anything about it and i was on sk8s on my old phone too and it didnt do it.

All I've done is root, unlock and removed bloat. No other mods on my end so it can't be due to sk8s kernel.

This message only happened to me when I plug into my car charger. Before I rooted it used to say slow charge. Now I get this message. I think the base ROM took something out...

That's when I got it too. I'm on stock so I'm not thinking it's the base ROM. Maybe it's something to do with the charger each of us used for the first time...

funny you guys say that.. first phone didnt get the screen was never pluged into car charger. second phone was pluged into car charger.
but.. the guys in irc keep saying its software related.. so ill take there word for it for now. they no more then i do.

They definitely know more. No doubt about it. At least we know one thing. I got it on stock while others got it on a ROM. So I'd assume that it's a hardware issue or an issue that's buried in the software. See, I just covered all the bases. Lol

one of the devs had it happen to his rooted freegeed stock too. he was the main one telling me it is software.
I just plugged my phone in and took the dog out. Came back and my phone was in fastboot mode for some reason. LOL

I'm on the Sprint LGOG and I just had it happen too.
Stock ROM, rooted, and unlocked. Never happened until today, which was the first time I did a restore with TWRP - I debloated too much.
Rebooted and seems fine now.

Is all fine and dandy until you miss an alarm.
I just got the Demigod screen too.
All I've done to my phone is root it and unlock it with FreeGee.
EDIT: I had noticed that the phone was acting somewhat strangely the past couple days (slow response, screen not turning on when I press the power button, multitasking screen not appearing/not responsive). Now it seems alright even though I had rebooted the phone prior to the Demigod screen to try and resolve these issues.

Phone turned off by itself

I plugged my phone in the car charger earlier and noted I had 49% battery left. I drove an hour and when I took the phone off the charger it was turned off. I'm not rooted or anything. This is my first Android phone. Would Android be considered less stable than ios?(which is what I've used for years)

Mine did the same! But it only happened once for me

That same problems happens to me when i unplug it or even just wake it up from sleep. It doesnt do it too often like it did when i first got it but im sure it will be fixed with a software update. All you gotta do is restart the phone hold down the power and down button ( on the volume rocker)
Just happened again. Plugged in car charger and it powered down. WTF is this?

I used to have a samsung captivate that did the same thing, generally it is a thing you just have to deal with! It sucks, I know but sorry!
Galaxy S3
kindle fire running cw9
iPod touch 4 6.0.1 jailbroke
I turned it back on, kept driving, and then it turned off again. This is ridiculous. It never did this before.

I think the problem may be with the app HD Widgets. I installed it last night and the problem started today. According to one review I read, it was causing some guy to have random reboots. The developer responded that it is a bug in Android OS, BUT they released a fix in today's update anyway. Hopefully it is fixed now.
Sent from my LG-E970 using Tapatalk 2
I've had it happen twice to me. I got the feeling it was a software conflict type issue.

I think it is hd widget too. I had that on my nexus 7 and it randomly shut off. I deleted it and it hasn't happened again.
Sent from my LG-E970 using Tapatalk
I won't pretend to know what the actual problem is but I'm assuming it's software related, but this thing does strange things when connected to a car charger.
Same thing happened to me twice while it was sitting in my pocket.
Pulled it out and it was off. It would not turn back on unless I held the down volume button and power button. My phone is completely stock and I do not have HD widgets.
Twice for me. I'm rooted and unlocked.

I'm on The Base .7.1 and i've had my phone reboot on it's own a few times (on .5 and .7 it did this as well). it doesn't seem to matter what I'm doing...i can be taking a phone call or answering a text, it can be sitting in my pocket or playing chess.
the only thing that is constant is that AFTER the reboot, some application or other has updated itself via Google Play. perhaps there is some conflict occurring when application updates are presented to the Google Play app? could just be coincidence, but it has self-rebooted many times now and every time it comes back up there is a newly applied update to some installed application.
Had a Samsung Captivate that did that, called "sleep death" and was frequent. ATT swapped it out saying there was a bad batch and it never happened again.
My LGOG did it once the other night; well it did a full reboot by itself. If it becomes an issue I'll take it up w/ ATT again.
Had it happen twice in the past 2 days just in my pocket. Starting to get a bit frustrated with this phone.
Had this happen to me at least twice. Funny thing is the phone died in the same general geographic area each time.
Both times I had over 65 or 75% battery left and I was driving a few hundred miles across areas with bad cell reception. on the way back from my trip I actually chanced to look at the phone because I half expected it to be off due to having experienced the unintended power down before. Phone was NOT plugged into a charger. In the past, driving through these areas would put certain phones into power saving mode where cell function shuts down or phone. I think it's related to driving without reception or just no reception.
Normally I can leave this phone sitting and it stays on and wakes up without a fight.
Called AT&T, they are trying to run me through the whole hard reset/phone swap process.
Wanting something a bit stronger, I got LG's number. They said I was the first person to report the issue.
Both companies suggested turning the device off and charging to 100%, although they were both general suggestions (still, I hadn't tried that). The LG tech actually suggested that I take the battery out and... Well I didn't let that go any further.
LG said I could send my device to them instead of AT&T, if I wanted. They don't presend phones so you'll be SOL for "5-7 days" but I feel better that they would actually look at it instead of just throwing it in a "refurb" pile when the screen turns on.
Anyway, call them! Press 1 for English, 1 for Mobiles, I got an answer in 3 seconds. At least help put this on their radar. 800-793-8896.
of those of us who are experiencing random reboots...
are you rooted/unlocked?
are you on the Stock ROM or on The Base?
if The Base, which version? .5 or .73
i am rooted/unlocked running .73

Power on with no battery ???

Hey all , got a question for the tbolt community. My cousin told me her grandson was playing with her phone and it got wet apparently, afterwards her phone would power on but no screen , so I took a look at it and checked by holding down the power button and I felt the vibration and the soft keys light up but no screen, so as I started to hook it up to my laptop I for the hell of it opened the battey cover and to my surprise ... No battery , hadent been in the phone since it hit water a few days ago . I thought I was going crazy like it didn't happen so I figured I'd ask you guys . what do you think ?

She may want to hold onto it for her protection because it can be no other than a live Transformer.
Nah, just kidding.
Holding the certain keys can have the phone do a "hard reset" type thing.
Or, at least, I've read that somewhere.
Sent from my XT912 using xda app-developers app
I'm pretty sure that if its plugged into USB and you do that it will do the vibrate and light the soft keys up even without a battery in. Won't get any further though. Put the phone in a Ziploc bag of dry brown rice for a couple of days. It will dry up any moisture left in the phone. If you powered it up before it is completely dry it is going to fry. I know it sounds silly but I actually keep a bag of this with me in my truck while I'm working because I have dropped so many of my work phones in water.

Thanks for the replies . especially to a kinda silly question lol , but I've had a few android phones and never ran across this .but her phone works and she's happy to have it back after I gave her my inc2 as a loaner . just a weird anomaly I guess

Rebooting phone

Can you do a reboot of the phone without pulling battery, and screen becomes unresponsive. On my HTC I can hold power and volume - for a few seconds and it will reboot but then again it has a unremovable battery. Just wondering can I do same with this phone, thanks in advance.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2
So nobody knows if its possible.

I'm going to try one more time can I reboot phone without pulling battery if the screen is unresponsive.... My HTC phone I can hold power and volume down and it reboots is there a similar procedure with the moto photon.

I personally do not know of a way and just always pull the battery.

Thank you the reason i ask is because i have two photons i plan to give one too each of my 8 and 9 year old daughters for games and netflix etc.... I bought them shells but the tabs that keep them shut broke off. I wanted to super glue the shell together but if i do that i won't be able to get to battery for a manual reboot... So im thinking i need to get them new shells the rubber jelly kind that just goes over phone.
Have you let them sit for a few minutes when frozen? A lot of times it will reboot itself but I rarely have the patience to wait? Otherwise you'd have to let the batteries fully drain and hope they charge and come back on.
As far as I know, you have to pull the battery.

Exchange/Replaced

Hello,
So my T-Mobile HTC One has two problems.
Firstly, while restarting the two buttons at the bottom will keep flickering for about five minutes before the phone turns on.
Secondly, the phone's 3g connection (while abroad) keeps going on and off. This doesn't happen on any other device. Also, the battery life has really gone down recently.
What are my options for this getting replaced for a new phone and not one of their replacement phones? Last time, I had the HTC Incredible and went through like 6 replacement phones.
Thanks,
Crazysah
First off when you hold the power button the lights will flash and then it will power off.
That's just how the phone works.
The battery life sometimes can take a day or so to adjust. Mines is pretty good.
And on the 3g I wouldn't know since I get 4g or 4g lte 99% of the time and the other time it's just bars and edge data
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
No no. When turning on the phone, the two capacitive buttons on the button will flicker for a good 3 to 4 minutes before the phone turns on. Never used to happen.
The battery has been going down ever since I started using this phone in May.
3G going in and out only happens abroad, not in the USA.
3g is probably network related if it only happens abroad.

Yeah but doesn't happen on any other phone. So it is definitely a phone problem. What can I do?
Crazysah
I had the Purple tint issue with my first HTC One, and just got my replacement. The camera is definitely way better, no purple tint whatsoever, build quality is better than my first device, no gaps and the power/sleep button is not excessively recessed. But, I do notice the screen of replacement device, the second HTC One, is yellowish compared to my first HTC One. I have been on the fence if I should contact T-mobile, but sorta do not feel the need to go through the process of unlocking, unrooting, s-off, cid, firmware update and running a custom rom.
